Bill Ayers: U.S. should ‘build monuments to the unknown deserters’ like Bergdahl

posted at 11:21 am on July 1, 2014 by Noah Rothman

On Monday night, University professor and former Weather Underground founder Bill Ayers joined Fox News Channel host Megyn Kelly where he was grilled over his past violent activities and his controversial views. The interview became heated when Kelly and Ayers argued over whether the violence he advocated is equivalent to the violence perpetuated by the United States in conducting operations overseas.

“You sound like — with respect — Osama bin Laden,” Kelly said when Ayers asserted that it would be “fair and balanced” for American media outlets to examine the violent history of the United States as thoroughly as they do his activities.

Later, Ayers asserted that it was a “heroic thing to do” if it is proven that Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl deserted his post. “I think, throughout history, we should build monuments to the unknown deserters,” he added, equating Bergdahl’s alleged desertion with those who fled the United States to avoid serving in Vietnam. “The people who look at the craziness that they are asked to participate in and say, ‘I’m not part of this.’”

Later in the interview, Kelly pressed Ayers to repent for his attempt to bomb a dance hall filled with U.S. soldiers. That nail-filled improvised explosive device went off prematurely, killing Ayer’s girlfriend at the time along with two others.

“You realize people could’ve been hurt, you admitted it in the beginning,” Kelly noted.

“I realized people could’ve been hurt,” Ayers answered. “Thank god they weren’t, but we made every attempt not to and they weren’t.”

“I don’t say it wasn’t reckless and I don’t say it wasn’t illegal, it was illegal,” he added.

“You could have murdered somebody with those bombs,” Kelly shot back.

“The people who were conducting the war in Vietnam actually murdered people,” Ayers insisted.

Some people describe illegal aliens who have settled in the U.S. as “citizens in all but name.”

I wonder if they would agree that people like Bill Ayers are “foreigners in all but name”?

After we Divorce, what kind of military do you think the Northeastern and West Coast People’s Democratic Empire will have?

ConstantineXI on July 1, 2014 at 12:31 PM

DHS/NPS Brownshirt Peoples’ Army – with SS Barrycade Brigade.

He knows now as he did then that he Kathy Boudin was specifically advocating for and making anti-personnel bombs…

It’s silly and offensive for him to continue this charade.

+1.

It was nice of him to let Obama use his house, though.

Now that I think about it, Obama would’ve either

1) known who he was and not cared,

2) known who he was and supported him,

3) not been informed enough to know who he was.

There aren’t any other choices. Which do you think it was, verbaluce?

Obama’s pal..all that needs to be said..and yeah I think Obama thinks its a heroic thing for berghal to be a deserter..he hates our military just as much as Ayers

When I saw this come on – I turned the TV off right away. I didn’t want to give this guy any attention.

My husband was not so smart – he watched part of it and was so mad he couldn’t discuss it civilly.

So, my question – why are any of us giving this guy a moment’s attention? He doesn’t deserve it. IGNORE HIM!

Well, unlike our current real military, the Brownshirt Brigades are stocked up with millions of hollow points….

The “real” military is prohibited from using hollow points in international warfare, in accordance with the Hague Convention of 1899.

I have a feeling Ayers supports abortion, infanticide and euthanasia. She should have asked him if he’d support violence and property destruction against Planned Parenthood and abortion clinics. I wonder what he would have said?

I think this was a great interview… but she could have gone a lot further into his relationship with Obama as well as how he became a college professor. Ayers is only truly relevant today when you consider his relationship with Obama.. and when you do that and look at what this administration is doing.. it explains a great deal.

That was the missing link here.

verbaluce on July 1, 2014 at 12:00 PM

and yet he is still feted by the media and the left (but I repeat myself). Why do you suppose that is?

If someone is still welcome amongst a group despite obvious evil-doing, can one assume that the group in question condones the evil-doing?

this is akin to Al Sharpton (inciter of violence, murder, proven defamer of good people, never really a reverend, race baiter) being feted by the DNC and its bigwigs.

You cannot judge a group because some nut-job agrees with some portion of the group’s agenda or because some nut-job attends a rally. You can judge a group when they go out of their way to honor and fete said nut-job.

the left loves to claim the GOP is racist because it can find some provable racists somewhere who supports the GOP. But, the left will claim its active endorsement of Ayers and Sharpton does not prove the baseness of leftism.

Interesting, no? Doesn’t Obama’s friendship with Ayers make you question Obama’s morality or judgment, for instance?

A decent, honest person would not be friends with Ayers (an unrepentant murderer of innocents). But, Obama is. What of that?

I guess, based on Obama’s overall ignorance and incompetence, you could claim Obama doesn’t have the ability to discern a bad person from a good person, or a bad act from a good act. That would actually be a fairly persuasive argument.

Mourning the deaths of terrorists sets a new low, except for you.

Class, this is what’s left of your mind on the Democrat Party.

F-

Del Dolemonte on July 1, 2014 at 2:18 PM

It should be noted the bomb built by the Weathermen in their (fortunately) abortive attempt to blow up a soldier’s dance was intended to be loaded with nails in order to maximize its lethality; ergo, Ayers is lying. He and his fellow Marxist revolutionaries wanted blood and death and shredded flesh. The good part is they got careless and blew themselves up instead.

Ayers is a thoroughly evil man yet here he is: well-off, respected in his circles, a friend and mentor of the President. Why bad men prosper and good men suffer is the big mystery to me. I work at it like a dog on a bone and still can’t make sense of it.

troyriser_gopftw on July 1, 2014 at 2:20 PM

Bill Ayers gave up his rights a long time ago when he became a felon. Why is this man TEACHING in a college? Put him and his wife behind bars.

evie1949 on July 1, 2014 at 2:21 PM

Over at Powerline, they highlight David Horowitz, a former member of the hard left, who interviewed Bill Ayers for an essay that is part of Horowitz’s book exposing the radical left. His observations are quite interesting….

I interviewed Ayers ten years ago, in a kindergarten classroom in uptown Manhattan where he was employed to shape the minds of inner city children. Dressed in bib overalls with golden curls rolling below his ears, Ayers reviewed his activities as a terrorist for my tape recorder. When he was done, he broke into a broad, Jack Horner grin and summed up his experience: “Guilty as hell. Free as a bird. America is a great country.”

In my experience, what drives most radicals are passions of resentment, envy and inner rage. Bill Ayers is a scion of wealth. His father was head of Detroit’s giant utility Commonwealth Edison, in line for a cabinet position in the Nixon Administration before his son ruined it by going on a rampage that to this day he cannot explain to any reasonable person’s satisfaction (which is why he has to conceal so much). It could be said of Bill Ayers that he was consumed by angers so terrible they led him to destroy his father’s career. But in the 10 hours I interviewed him I saw none of it. What I saw was a shallowness beyond conception. All the Weather leaders I interviewed shared a similar vacuity. They were living inside a utopian fantasy, a separate reality, and had no idea of what they had done. Nor any way to measure it. Appreciating the nation to which they were born, recognizing the great gifts of freedom and opportunity their parents and communities had given them, distinguishing between right and wrong – it was all above their mental and moral ceiling.

In the days ahead, this is one of the dangers we face.

Ayers, and the others of his ilk, fit the clinical definition of being a sociopath. In Ayers case, he’s a criminal sociopath who should be shunned by society as opposed to being feted by those like Obama. That he isn’t speaks volumes about the values and morality of the left.

Athos on July 1, 2014 at 2:39 PM

Yawn.

THE AMERICAN PUBLIC DOES NOT CARE ABOUT BILL AYERS. You’d thing two electoral losses talking about this loser as if he matters in people’s daily lives would be enough to just discard him.

Someone needs to ask one of these guys, who justify all their crimes by saying the US is evil, “Compared to what?”

Is France better? Germany? Iran? Let’s look at their history for the last 100 years, much less 265.

In their view, comparing countries against heaven and striking out in retaliation, all people are justified in terrorism all the time.

PattyJ on July 1, 2014 at 2:52 PM

I talked to my mother last night after she had watched this interview. She’s 90, soon to be 91 and while she has her ailments, she’s sharp as fresh razor blade. She was disappointed that no decent man had not “taken him out in the back and shot him”. “What was wrong with people” that they couldn’t see how absolutely necessary and right it would have been to just shoot this SOB?
I started to say something about due process and how we need to be better than he is, but being better than he is has allowed this POS to live as a free man, a college Professor ( A college professor, as was his wife and 2 of his cohorts) and a father with little or no consequences.
Hard to argue with Mom.

I didn’t watch it. I don’t understand WHY people continue to pay homage to this man, via press interviews. He’s a criminal; no one should be paying any attention to him except to arrest and imprison him for the crimes he’s committed. Giving him all this attention is a pointless waste of your time–but certainly not a waste of Ayers’ time. He’ll use it to drum up support for his next book, probably.
