Poll: Obama has squandered renewed faith in the presidency

posted at 11:21 am on June 30, 2014 by Noah Rothman

Americans faith in the three branches of government is nearing all-time lows, according to a recent survey via Gallup.

In 2009, President Barack Obama entered office at a time when confidence in the office of the presidency had reached historic low level, bottoming out in 2007 at 25 percent. Obama’s election amid a wave of “hope” resulted in a rebound in Americans’ faith in the presidency. Six years later, however, that rating has again collapsed.

In 2009, 51 percent said they had confidence in the Oval Office. Today, only 29 percent say the same.

mlshsm8l-0mdgn7zps4hzw

The executive branch is in good company. In 1991, 48 percent expressed confidence in the judicial branch. Only 30 percent say the same today. Whereas 30 percent said that they had faith in Congress in 1991, only 7 percent say the same today.

The June 5 – 8 poll showed that confidence in government has ebbed dramatically in just the last two years. Since 2012, confidence in the Supreme Court, the presidency, and the Congress has plummeted by 7 points, 8 points, and six points respectively.

Gallup’s conclusions are among the most disturbing for those who support America’s tradition of representative governance:

While Americans clearly have the lowest amount of confidence in the legislative branch, ratings for all three are down and are at or near their lowest points to date. At this point, Americans place much greater faith in the military and the police than in any of the three branches of government.

The only institutions which maintain the public’s support are those with a monopoly on the legitimate use of violence. While a Seven Days in May scenario remains an unthinkable one, one wonders if the public would be particularly disturbed if one did arise.

Obama squandered just about everything.

That wasn’t renewed faith in the presidency. That was worship of the type you see in communist countries.

Seven Days in May – book and movie were fantastic. I’d give the nod to the book, but the movie does a good job.

While the History Channel “Nuking of DC” scenario remains an unthinkable one, one wonders if the public would be particularly disturbed if one did arise.

And just WHO do these Americans have to blame for this? Have any of them looked in a MIRROR lately?

They only had “faith” because Dubya was out and a Commie was in.

Kind of like Moochelle’s newfound pride in her country.

Disturbed?! I’ll be dancing on my roof. The monuments and the historical buildings are well worth losing if it saves the rest of the country.

Rix on June 30, 2014 at 11:35 AM

Obama welcomes this. He follows Alinsky to the letter.

The goal is to foment enough public discontent, moral confusion, and outright chaos to spark the social upheaval that Marx, Engels, and Lenin predicted — a revolution whose foot soldiers view the status quo as fatally flawed and wholly unworthy of salvation. Thus, the theory goes, the people will settle for nothing less than that status quo’s complete collapse — to be followed by the erection of an entirely new system upon its ruins. Toward that end, they will be apt to follow the lead of charismatic radical organizers who project an aura of confidence and vision, and who profess to clearly understand what types of societal “changes” are needed.

Absolutely. Those behind his throne that worked to get him where heis have a plan and the evisceration is not yet complete.

hawkeye54 on June 30, 2014 at 11:42 AM

He talked a good game, which inspired many Americans to believe that things would change for the better, so optimism was high.

But he failed where it counts, in the doing. And so reality is revealed that things did not change for the better, and his promises were empty, so optimism has evaporated.

You can bet that there will be many of the public quite disturbed over such a scenario. Mostly LIVs and staunch Obummer supporters who are already disturbed quite a bit and this would send them completely over the edge.

Anybody with 1/2 a brain would have had no faith in Obama from the get go.

Why on earth would a commie raised, community organizer activist who refused to release his birth certificate, refused to release college transcripts etc be trusted.

txdoc on June 30, 2014 at 11:54 AM

Speaking of Obama and the “illegal children”:

I was listening to Frank Beckman, a Detroit talk show host, on the way in to work this morning.

He was interviewing the head of a “non-profit” that houses “problem children” for the state of Michigan. This guy wants to house 60 of the illegal alien youth that crossed the border. He said this will require 120 staffers.

Assuming the staffers average $40k, that’s $4,800,000 a year and that doesn’t cover food, utilities, whatever he is charging for rent, etc. So you are looking at $90,000 – $100,000 per illegal youth. Roughly the average American family’s annual income.

He is negotiating with the Federal government. It would be entirely federally-funded. The $2 billion Obama is requesting is just the tip of the iceberg.

Your tax dollars at work.

As a cat person who still gets peoples’ dogs to lick and otherwise pile on him, I can’t see how anyone who apparently, somehow, thinks that dog-eating and continual, uninformed ideological quackery are acceptable “topics” could become any flag bearer of “renewed faith” unless the phrase, “evil cynicism” was included in there somewhere. There have been no demonstrable [and silly] oceanic level changes, but there have been more than a few now diminished dollars wasted and ambassadorial folks, good soldiers and Mexican civilians murdered for nothing more than “evil, cynical” – and, however improbable the mix, dithering – incompetence.

Oh, yeah. I vividly recall the Rodney King rioting that all quieted down the day welfare payments came out.

I expect the reverse to be true the day welfare payments stop and EBTs don’t work. Indignant recipients will be getting their rioting and looting on. Can’t be denying them what is rightfully theirs and they’ll be self-redistribution of stuff they figure is due to them.

Again the |absolute value| of this data is limiting.
In any legitimate ranking and rating, King Putt deserves NEGATIVE numbers for this totally worthless administration.

Kevin71 on June 30, 2014 at 1:51 PM

If the press treated Obumbles the same way it treated Nixon, Dingy Harry and a select group of high ranking dem pols would be having a private meeting with him to insist he resign for the good of the party and nation…..of course for that to happen, Dingy and co. would have to exhibit that they have souls, morals and ethics and a love for the survival of our Republic. All clearly lacking.

Americans faith in the three branches of government is nearing all-time lows

Yeah. They were sort of expecting the government to function like a representative democracy. The Marxist/fascist policies and programs being rammed into place are neither working nor popular.

I’m sure our masters’ remedy will be to give away more freebies to illegal aliens, kill more U.S. veterans and harass more taxpayers.

ROCnPhilly on June 30, 2014 at 4:50 PM

But but but just this morning the msm told us that just because only 29% have a favorable view of the presidency doesn’t mean this is about Obama. Riiight.

neyney on June 30, 2014 at 4:55 PM

It’s hard to believe that in 2009 the favorability rating went up by over 25% thanks to Jr. Senator Gasbag’s oration skills. Maybe things were simpler back then?!

Obama still has a problem. This system was derived on Judeo Christian principles. To the extent a peoples hold as truth those faiths, he cannot erase the desire to retain a system based upon those faiths

The hedonists have made a dent, but those who do not believe in moral relativism, who believe in the concept of absolute truth, are not going to let go of a system that upholds their principles. They will instead act to remove the bad actors from the system
