Obama: I guess I’m going to have to fix our immigration system on my own

posted at 5:21 pm on June 30, 2014 by Allahpundit

Via the Corner, it’s interesting that he picked a day when the media’s consumed with SCOTUS news to pull this. Maybe he figures that all the lefties who care about amnesty will notice regardless whereas independents, from whom he fears a potential backlash, might be distracted. Never underestimate how short the low-information voter’s attention span can be, my friends.

Wait a sec. He’s using unilateral executive action to … increase border security?

The move was spurred by House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, telling the president the House had no plans to vote on any immigration legislation this year, a White House official said.

“I would greatly prefer Congress actually do something. I take executive action only when we have a serious problem, a serious issue, and Congress chooses to do nothing.,” Mr. Obama said Monday in the Rose Garden of the White House. “And in this situation the failure of House Republicans to pass a darn bill is bad for security, its bad for our economy, and its bad for our future.”

Mr. Obama intends to direct Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS) Jeh Johnson and Attorney General Eric Holder to move “available and appropriate enforcement resources” from the interior of the country down to the southern border.

“Protecting public safety is and will remain a top priority, and we will continue to focus on removing those who have committed serious crimes from our interior, but we will redirect other resources to make sure we keep doing what it takes to keep our border secure,” the official said.

Last I checked, he was planning to ask Congress to change a few Bush-era rules so that he can expedite deportations of young illegals to Central America. It makes sense that he’d be a stickler for legislative authority on that; invoking executive authority to beef up the border is precisely the opposite of what his base wants him to do. And yet … here he is, invoking executive authority to beef up the border. Hmmm.

Maybe he’s thinking strategically. He knows he’s eventually going to issue an order relaxing deportation protocols for illegals who are already here and he also knows he’s going to catch hell from Republicans for it. So he’s throwing them a curveball, using executive authority to temporarily improve border security to disarm GOP attacks. This achieves three things for him: It “proves” that he can be trusted to enforce new security provisions if Congress passes a comprehensive deal; it slows the flow of young illegals, which has become a major political obstacle on the path to a mass amnesty; and, assuming the GOP puts up no fuss, it sets a precedent that Republicans are just fine with bold executive action when it’s in the service of their own immigration goals. That’s a lame “gotcha” since there’s nothing objectionable about the president re-positioning security assets, but rest assured that O will bring it up when, not if, he eventually issues his executive order on deportations. “How come Republicans are whining about executive overreach today but didn’t whine when I sent more Border Patrol down south a few weeks ago?” Today is all about the laying the groundwork, I think. That’s why Luis Gutierrez is excited. He knows what’s coming.

Exit question: Which article of the Constitution sets forth this principle? Quote: “I take executive action only when we have a serious problem, a serious issue and Congress chooses to do nothing.” I believe that’s the “I get to do sh*t if Congress doesn’t” clause, no?

It’s even more lame in that unlike amnesty, it actually enforces existing law and thus is a proper use of executive power.

Obama doesn’t know what he is talking about. Jan Brewer fought him to have her say to secure her AZ border, and he won, and at that time he wouldn’t do anything about it. So this actually IS his job.

The “I get to do sh*t if Congress doesn’t” clause is negated by the “I didn’t even try to work with Congress on this and they won’t do what I want” proviso. The fact of the matter is the HA wing of Congress is perfectly willing to pass some form of amnesty but they need political cover to do it. That means making a deal. Obama doesn’t do deals. You obey him or he gets bitchy.

Now this is what I find interesting (also disgusting, appalling and infuriating). If the highest officials in the government refuse to enforce the the law, at what point does it become irrelevant? How can a policeman pull you over and give you a speeding ticket (and be justified doing so) if all laws are not enforced equally? If our own elected officials can disregard laws at a whim, why should we be held to a higher standard?

Nope. They are blinded by the hope of forever changing our Republic into the socialist utopia of their dreams and they having hold of perpetual power. They see massive waves of unwashed, illiterate, ill-educated peons as their ticket for that utopia and to punish us for our undeserved wealth of resources by redistributive social and economic justice. If it means widespread upheaval, ruination, and death by disease and or violence, its simply acceptable collateral damage to get that utopia in place as soon as possible.

Earlier today, Israeli security announced sad news. The bodies of three Israeli teens, one with dual American citizenship, had been discovered. They had been kidnapped by terrorists with links to Hamas. The captors reportedly shot the teens to execute them shortly after abducting them. Hamas had played its usual game, distancing itself from the kidnappers while praising their actions.

Today, after an emergency cabinet meeting , Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel would act forcefully and “eradicate” Hamas.

“We will not stop until Hamas is completely destroyed,” Israel’s Deputy Defense Minister Dannon Danon said after the meeting, according to CNN.

President Obama admitted that the unaccompanied children coming to the border en masse are motivated by confusion about the country’s immigration laws, but he blamed Republicans for that ambiguity as he announced that he is shifting immigration law-enforcement resources from the interior to the border.

“The problem is is that our system is so broken, so unclear, that folks don’t know what the rules are,” Obama said, faulting House Republicans for failing to pass the Senate’s immigration bill.

What “confusion” is this dope talking about? He is the one changing the rules from day to day for his own political purposes.

He wants to spend money for attorneys to protect the “rights” of the illegals.

There’s nothing complicated or ambiguous about our immigration laws. If you cross the border illegally or overstay a visa and are caught, you get deported. It’s really quite simple actually…if you have a government that enforces the laws on the books. When they ignore the laws for political reasons, that’s when there’s mass confusion and corruption.

He created the current “crisis”…so he’s the only one that can fix it….all hail Dear Leader.
d1carter on June 30, 2014 at 6:06 PM
I think the word is “fix” no doubt this executive action will cause confusion…much like his Obamacare exec orders. Which just created one hell of a mess.

I was listening to Frank Beckman, a Detroit talk show host, on the way in to work this morning.

He was interviewing the head of a “non-profit” that ouses “problem children” for the state of Michigan. This guy wants to house 60 of the illegal alien youth that are crossing the border. He said this will require 120 staffers.

Assuming the staffers average $40k, that’s $4,800,000 a year and that doesn’t cover food, utilities, whatever he is charging for rent, etc. So you are looking at $90,000 – $100,000 per illegal youth. Roughly the average American family’s annual income.

Imagine housing 50k – 100k illegal youth – you’re looking at trillions in taxpayer money.

Your tax dollars at work.

And Sheriff Joe Biden was hilarious in the background….

d1carter on June 30, 2014 at 6:10 PM

He will get away with it because all the Boehner has done is accounce that he is going to sue the President for issuing Executive Orders and that Immigration Reform won’t be done this year. Leadership in the House don’t hold press conferences or debate or get in front of any issue. They are useless and the Dems are taking advantage of it. I miss the days of Gingrich.

lea on June 30, 2014 at 6:11 PM

Here’s the stupid thing about this issue.

Boehner and the HA wing of the GOP are chomping at the bit to pass amnesty. Obama doesn’t want to give anybody but him “credit” for immigration reform.

He could get amnesty if he only put his ego aside and got a deal with the HA caucus.

Will 10,000 do it? At the rate we’re going, I think I can get there by the end of summer.

Maybe he’s thinking strategically.

It’s just a variation on Overton.

He’ll claim deportations raw numbers are up, without recognizing the mass influx beyond normal yearly percentages.

He’ll claim security has been strengthened, implying it’s across the board, without mentioning it’s a temporary fix aimed at the rapid influx.

Barry’s been running this con since ’08. He’s addicted to the tactic because old whiteys have been too afraid to say he’s a con artist, or a confidence man, because it can be construed as raaacciisstt.

cmsinaz on June 30, 2014 at 6:13 PM

Wait a sec. He’s using unilateral executive action to … increase border security?

No he’s not. The increased law enforcement presence is to ensure a safe, steady flow flood that takes place outside the prying eyes of the subjects.

Steve Eggleston on June 30, 2014 at 6:13 PM

The GOP should be the opposition party, but it truly is controlled by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Sheldon Adelson, etc.

bw222 on June 30, 2014 at 6:05 PM

Let me help you out here. The GOP controls the House. They are not the opposition party. But the House is led by worthless surrender weasels. Boehner should Google Tip O’Neill about how to use the role of Speaker to use the power of his office instead of weeping whenever confronted by crisis.

move “available and appropriate enforcement resources” from the interior of the country down to the southern border.

We have immigration enforcement resources in the interior of the country ? Really ? What are they called and what do they do because I don’t see any ” enforcement ” of our laws anywhere.
WTF is he babbling about ?
