Open thread: Sunday morning talking heads

posted at 8:01 am on June 29, 2014 by Allahpundit

Tough call this morning for conservatives. Watch a former Democratic president spin his way through questions about his fabulous wealth and his family’s support for the Iraq war or watch a current Democratic president whine his way through questions about Republican objections to his endless executive power grabs? Bill Clinton will be on “Meet the Press” while Obama swings by “This Week.”

If you’re not up for that, House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte will be on “Fox News Sunday” to drop a hint or two about the future of immigration reform. Goodlatte’s the guy who was reportedly in tears last year listening to illegals describe their plight; lately he’s been telling people that amnesty’s dead this year. Hmmmm. Also, Peter King will be follow Obama on “This Week” to explain how Ted Cruz and Rand Paul are destroying America. The full line-up is at Politico.

Its just desert and mountains out there but the far left will surely blame it on fracking or something else.

Bob Kerrey, the former Dem Senator from Nebraska said Bill Clinton was an excellent liar. Obama tells lies that are obviously nonsense and only the MSM not harping on it saves him. So do you want to watch a pro or just a prolific incompetent this morning.

Did you know that Peter King is the Republican that has the third highest face time on TV. I am not kidding you. I think we should elect him president.

Cindy Munford on June 29, 2014 at 8:33 AM

Anyone notice the fairly flattering profile of Mark Sanford in the NYTimes (with a couple of digs at Nikki Haley) recently?

Is there any reason to suspect the MSM’s motives in running a “reformed adulterer turns over new leaf” story now?

Anyone else they might have had in mind to get people to find cheatin’ hound dog husbands acceptable on the political stage?

Either listen to Bubba talk of those cold winter days with him and Hillary on the street corner begging for meager change and wondering where their next meal would come from, or watch His Highness stick his tongue out at Congress and go “Nyah, Nyah, Nyah, Nyah, Nyah, you can’t stop me!”, why the MSM moderator sits in awe over the sheer magnitude of leadership by example on display!

I can’t believe they gave that old horndog airtime to attempt to dig his fake wife out of the hole she dug. Then again, he’s no angel. That report about how lame his charitable foundation was that came out last year was quickly forgotten. It was/is just another scheme to funnel money to the Clintons for their own use and to other donk donors.

How did Bill Clinton spin away the problems
associated with his AFFORDABLE HOUSING CRUSADE ?

What are you trying to PROTECT ?

……………………………………………………………………..

BROOKSLEY BORN,
CFTC Chair, 1996 – 1999:
We’re trying to PROTECT the MONEY of the American public.

_________________________________________

Long before the Economic MELTDOWN, the story of
one WOMAN who tried to WARN about
the THREAT to the FINANCIAL System.

Before the TOXIC assets POISONED the Economy,
she WARNED of their DANGER.

_________________________________________

Derivatives, in essence, are INSURANCE policies

that various players on Wall Street enter into
to protect themselves from unforeseen calamities.

It was a $27 Trillion-Market happening out of sight,
inside a black box.

BROOKSLEY BORN:

We didn’t truly know the dangers
in the market because it was a DARK MARKET.
There was NO transparency.

And that’s what frightened Born more than anything,

TRILLIONS of dollars and the biggest banks
in the country OPERATING in SECRET.

If something went terribly wrong, the
high-stakes DERIVATIVES Market

could TAKE DOWN the entire FINANCIAL SYSTEM.
_____________________________________________

As the DERIVATIVES Market grew and morphed,
Born felt her agency would have to get involved,
but that would mean CONFRONTING Alan Greenspan,
BOB RUBIN and Larry Summers.

___________________________________________

Brooksley Born was contemplating
the REGULATION of O-T-C DERIVATIVES.

The pushback is visceral and immediate, and
that’s one of the striking things about this.

BANKERS just fall over themselves
CALLING Larry Summers and Bob Rubin
and Alan Greenspan and everybody, saying,

“Get this LADY off our backs.”

But the harder they pushed, the more interested Born became.

BROOKSLEY BORN:

They were totally opposed to it. That puzzled me.

You know, what was it that was in this market
that had to be HIDDEN ?

Why did it have to be a completely DARK MARKET ?

So it made me very SUSPICIOUS and TROUBLED.

……………………………………………………………………

Born was taking the first steps toward REGULATING
over-the-counter DERIVATIVES,

designing a document known as a “concept release.”

Born told her staff to publish the concept release.

In response, Bob Rubin acted, calling an emergency
meeting of the working group. The response of
the working group was immediate and unprecedented.

LEADERS of Bill CLINTON’s FINANCIAL Team:
Bob Rubin and Alan Greenspan and Larry Summers.

They beat up Brooksley Born and kick her out from her job;

and they build up a FRANKENSTEIN Wall Street.

ECONOMIC CRASH & FINANCIAL CRISIS of 2008 was inevitable.

viking01 on June 29, 2014 at 10:38 AM

Better late than never is a solid trope, but I’m not sure it works here. Up late and busy with daughter number two home for a precious visit. But propaganda never sleeps.

Let’s have a gander:

“Meet the Press” on NBC
Bill Clinton – aka “Rapist in Chief” – Kook Left Fringe (despite all you’ve heard from the liberal media)
Reince Priebus – Conservative tasked with herding cats
Valerie Jarrett – Kook Left corrupt-o-crat
Sean DuffyNot nearly so conservative as some have thought.

“Face the Nation” on CBS
Joe Manchin – Liberal
John Barrasso – Conservative
James Jeffrey – Lifetime diplomat, aka Liberal

“This Week” on ABC
Barack Obama – The Clown President (Kook Left Liberal)
Peter King – The RINO King (Liberal)

“Fox News Sunday” on Fox
Bob Goodlatte – Conservative
Xavier Becerra – Kook Left Race-Victim Liberal
Michael Hayden – Liberal

“State of the Union” on CNN
Darrell Issa – RINO
Mike Rogers – RINO

“Political Capital” on Bloomberg TV
Jeff Zients – Liberal

“Newsmakers” on C-SPAN
John Thune – RINO

With this lineup, it’s a wonder these shows can stay on the air at all. Happily, most Americans will have a nice breakfast and go to church, instead. With Issa, Rogers, Thune, and King as the people’s voice of the opposition, it’s a wonder O’Bozo the Clown President hasn’t gotten everything he wants. Add them to the liberals and you have a group of 22 people, where 18 of them share the same basic view of the world.

You ask how we got $17 trillion in debt? That’s how. Barasso, Goodlatte, and to a lesser degree Duffy and Priebus do not share the Liberal view of the Federal government as a spoils system … in my most charitable view of the four. Every other person on these shows, including the liberal hosts, views the government as a benefactor and essential mechanism for providing opportunities – for those in need and for those shrewd enough to make a really good living by milking it.

Today’s exercise is to isolate any other viewpoint as a tiny, extreme minority.

Recommendation: a nice, long bike ride.

Schadenfreude on June 29, 2014 at 1:59 PM

Ever wonder why the Democrats seem to want to keep people poor?

But there’s another reason Democrats can’t talk about their wealth. It’s because they can’t say, “I made it big. Follow me and you can, too.”

Schadenfreude on June 29, 2014 at 2:04 PM

Democrats earn their money in ways that aren’t available to most Americans. Yet even for Democrats, the Clintons got rich in an exotic way. They accumulated something like $100 million not by building a business or inventing something or even writing some hit songs. Their entire fortune came from political celebrity. (Their daughter has even accumulated $15 million by being the offspring of political celebrities. Or did you think NBC News paid her $600,000 a year because of her obvious broadcasting ability?)

If the Clintons had gotten rich inventing Facebook, that fortune would have spawned many others. But celebrity honoraria don’t work that way.

Schadenfreude on June 29, 2014 at 2:07 PM
