Open thread: Sunday morning talking heads

posted at 8:01 am on June 22, 2014 by Allahpundit

What’s your pleasure this morning? 2016 hopefuls throwing rhetorical punches over Iraq and foreign policy or Kevin McCarthy trying to reassure conservatives that, no, really, he’s one of them? For McCarthy, turn to “Fox News Sunday.” Maybe he’ll give us an inkling of whether there’s any last-gasp chance for amnesty this year or if it’ll have to wait for the new term. Expect plenty of compliments for new majority whip Steve Scalise, too. Scalise is a conservative but he and McCarthy have a good relationship, one of the reasons that Marlin Stutzman and some House conservatives were leery of elevating Scalise.

If you want the Iraq debate, Marco Rubio will be on “Face the Nation” to make the case for hawkishness and Rand Paul will counter on “Meet the Press” and “State of the Union.” MTP’s already leaked the soundbite from his interview in which he says he doesn’t blame Obama for the current state of Iraq. His libertarian fans will be pleased to hear that. Will conservative primary voters? The full line-up is at Politico.

From Breitbart:

As immigration becomes increasingly problematic for the Australian government, Prime Minister Tony Abbott is launching a program that would pay refugees to return home. The payments vary depending on country of origin and the Australian government would pay for the return trip.

Lots going on this morning.
Hard to imagine but the same dog that ate Lois Lerner’s e-mails seems to have ate even more mail! Seems the people she e-mailed, all six of them, also had their e-mails eaten perhaps by the same homework eating dog.
This from NRO:
It’s not just Lois Lerner’s e-mails. The Internal Revenue Service says it can’t produce e-mails from six more employees involved in the targeting of conservative groups, according to two Republicans investigating the scandal.

“The IRS recently informed Ways and Means chairman Dave Camp and subcommittee chairman Charles Boustany that computer crashes resulted in additional lost e-mails, including from Nikole Flax, the chief of staff to former IRS commissioner Steven Miller, who was fired in the wake of the targeting scandal.

The revelation about Lerner’s e-mails rekindled the targeting scandal and today’s news has further inflamed Republicans. Camp and Boustany are now demanding a special prosecutor to investigate “every angle” of the events that led to Lois Lerner’s revelation in May 2013 that the agency had used inappropriate criteria to review the applications for tax exemption.”
………………….
Also seems that all those kids who are coming across the border are not such a surprise to the feds after all since there was a govt. ad place by Govt.Services months before all the mischief and mayhem started. AT had this one among others.

Well it’s Sunday here in America, and that means One Hour Hate in on the air! Our DNC-led-and-inspired liberal media overlords will conduct their weekly propaganda operation for O’Bozo, The Clown President, in an effort to prop up his toilet bowl poll numbers and the international mockery of his foreign “policy”, which seems more like an awkward series of afterthoughts to enable his next golf game.

Quick note on the nature of the DNC Media’s propaganda – anyone see a single story in the liberal-net about the Tet Alien Offensive currently aimed at our southern border? Me neither. Somewhere I read that one network mentioned it in passing, and no one else has even mouthed the words. That’s great propaganda!

Let’s have a gander at today’s lineup of liberals and RINOs, advancing the agenda of the left:

“Meet the Press” on NBC
• Rand Paul – Libertarian with increasingly little in common with conservatives
• Michael McCaul – Conservative!
• Benjamin Netanyahu – Socialist Israeli “Conservative”, or something
• Michele Flournoy – Clinton and OBozo appointed Pentagon Liberal
• Moderator: Kook Left Liberal

NBC was caught off-guard by the postponement of the European curling championships and was forced to air a show at the last minute, so they cobbled together a show and almost forgot the liberals!

“Face the Nation” on CBS
• Marco Rubio – Conservative who likes to keep us on our toes by occasionally acting like a Liberal
• Mike Rogers – Oh, my. I have teetered back and forth between Conservative and RINO for Rogers’s 87 ACU lifetime rating, but Heritage Action gives him a 54%. Brutal.
• Moderator: Liberal

CBS goes all R, for some reason, choosing a lame-duck RINO and an amnesty Liberal.

“This Week” on ABC
• Dick Cheney – Arch-Duke of the Neocons
• Sonia Sotomayor – Activist race-victim Liberal on the Supreme Court
• Keith Ellison – Whiny apologist for IslamoNazis and garden-variety Kook Left Liberal, natch
• Adam Kinzinger – True RINO (Heritage: 47%)
• Moderator: Liberal

ABC, usually the best of the bunch, is worse than normal with Darth Cheney and a host of Liberals.

“Fox News Sunday” on Fox
• Kevin McCarthy – Boehnerian RINO (Heritage: 42%)
• Moderator: Moderate

Fox keeps their eye on the only House of Power for Republicans, and seeks to define that power – where will McCarthy focus with Boehner all-in for amnesty?

“State of the Union” on CNN
• Paul – Libertarian Republican (Aha! Heritage Action – 96, ACU – 98 … consensus!)
• Dianne Feinstein – Kook Left Liberal (Heritage: 2% … heh)
• Bob Woodward – Liberal journalist who sometimes skewers Liberals
• Carl Bernstein – Kook Left Liberal
• Moderator: Kook Left Liberal activist

Rand and five Liberals = Propaganda.

“Political Capital” on Bloomberg TV
• Ralph Reed – Christian Conservative
• John Sununu – RINOish GOP attack dog
• David Pouffe – closeted gay Kook Left Liberal

I confess that I know nothing about Bloomberg. Their print coverage is kook-left, but this entity is a mystery to me. I default to assume leftiness, but have never watched a second of it.

“Newsmakers” on C-SPAN
• Debbie Wasserman Schultz – Kook Left Liberal

“Enfoque” on Telemundo
• Robert Menendez – Kook Left Liberal
• Bill Flores – Pretty solid Conservative

Race-victim TV for Hispanics.

Summary: Lots of libs; lots of RINOs; but a healthy dose of conservatives this week. Always a good indicator that OBozo’s ratings are in the crapper and they are struggling to find anyone who will defend his crap and corruption.

Interesting – Rand Paul goes from “libertarian with increasingly little in common with conservatives” -Meet The Press

to 98% ACU and 96% Heritage conservative ratings – CNN

The only issue I am angry with Paul about is his deal with
dirty Harry Reid; only because I dislike the sight and sound
of the man so much, not the deal itself. In my little spiteful
mind I think all conservatives should not talk, look at or otherwise associate with Dirty Harry. I suppose in the scope
of their work in the senate that would be impossible if one were
to try and get any work accomplished. And I admit I am wrong.
However, it still grates on me.

What I have noticed about Rand Paul is that
he analyzes a situation out loud, giving detailed explanations about where his thought process came from or is going, etc.
He therefore provides sound bites for the lefty media that do
not reflect the entirety of what he said. If one takes what he
says in context, all is explained. I find that each and every time I see the headline “gotcha” comment, I go to the full content
and am relieved.

The media must be delighted when Rand Paul gives them the “gotcha”
line – If I was cynical, I might think that Rand Paul does this on
purpose; for look at all the press he gets; and the old saying is
that “any press, negative or not is good”.

Amjean on June 22, 2014 at 9:15 AM

Kevin McCarthy trying to reassure conservatives that, no, really, he’s one of them?

Definitely seemed to be the plan.
“I’m for rule of law / no movement on immigration until the boarder is secure.”
“I only coached Spacy for House of Cards when he told me he was playing a Democrat / I tell representatives to vote their districts and their conscience, just don’t surprise me.”

Count to 10 on June 22, 2014 at 9:19 AM

TarheelBen on June 22, 2014 at 8:41 AM

This event has been the greatest confirmation of everything border hawks have been screaming about as the RINOs contemplate another amnesty. No one is ever forced to leave, and even illiterate Mexicans and Central American refugees know it.

And yet the RINOs are adamant that working on a new round of amnesty with scum of the earth liberals like Schumer and Durbin, Gutierrez and Bacerra is good for America and good politics. Another couple hundred thousand Guatemalen children coming here alone, to be followed by the other 26 members of their family soon, in a chain migration policy that makes perfect sense to anyone with a heart — how can you keep these children from their families?!

Plus the other 18 million illegals already here … face it, kids, the United States of America has no border, and no one in our government can articulate a rational argument for having one.

The governor said there was a “silent war” on religious liberty being fought in the U.S. — a country that he said was built on that liberty.

“I am tired of the left. They say they’re for tolerance, they say they respect diversity. The reality is this: They respect everybody unless you happen to disagree with them,” he said. “The left is trying to silence us and I’m tired of it, I won’t take it anymore.”

Not even E.J. Dionne could mount a full-throttled defense for Obama and the IRS on “Meet the Press” this morning — he had to opt for the hope that the IRS is merely stupefyingly incompetent as opposed to their and the White House being criminally malicious.

Considering that E.J. was one of the leaders of the big media crowd that was proclaiming Obama as a new, higher form of human existence, if not a god himself, 5 1/2 years ago, to be down to in-over-his-head incompetent as the better of the two options for Dionne is quite a fall from grace for the Lightworker.

I think the dems are taking into consideration the problem of getting Hispanics to the polls may be greater than they ever anticipated. Remember dems have to buy votes and keep them bought.
So they will need massive voter fraud as well as lots of dough to buy millions of illegals and legals alike to the polling stations. They may think that if they have 50-75 million Hispanics to work with if a third vote they will be lucky.

Mike Rogers – Oh, my. I have teetered back and forth between Conservative and RINO for Rogers’s 87 ACU lifetime rating, but Heritage Action gives him a 54%. Brutal.

Rogers, the outgoing head of the House Intelligence Committee, is entering the talk radio business at a time when the Select Committee on Benghazi could be dominating the news (especially in talk radio) and his wife should be introduced as a topic of discussion.

…when it comes to Mr. and Mrs. Rogers, there is an interesting confluence of events relative to their ladder-climbing in Congress and at Aegis respectively, as well as when relevant events unfolded in Libya. Libya was a focus of the Obama administration in 2011. In particular, Obama sought the removal of Muammar Gadhafi, which ultimately happened in October of that year.

The Arab Spring protests began in January and took root in Libya by February. Mike Rogers had just become House Intelligence Committee chairman and his wife had already been with Aegis since 2006. However, in 2011, Kristi’s rise with that company coincided with its very increased presence in Libya:

Libya also was an area of activity for Aegis, Ms. Rogers’ company. As Rep. Rogers assumed control of the Intelligence Committee, an Aegis subsidiary, Aegis Advisory, began setting up shop in Libya. “Aegis has been operating in Libya since February 2011,” noted an Aegis Advisory intelligence report aimed at corporate clients. The report, marked “Confidential,” notes the company’s ability to provide “proprietary information [and] expert knowledge from our country team based in Tripoli.” Security was part of the Aegis package, too…

In June of 2011, Mr. Rogers was one of only eight Republicans who voted to authorize military action to remove Gadhafi in Libya. This was clearly an attempt to get the War Powers Act debate off the table. In essence, it sought to eliminate the issue of Congressional inaction in response to egregious Presidential action. An authorization to use force would have made everything legit.

In August of 2011 – as Gadhafi was about to fall – Mr. Rogers appeared on CNN with Wolf Blitzer. In a moment of candor, Rogers argued that the U.S. must “aggressively” secure very dangerous weapons from the Libyan rebels.

This is clearly what the CIA Annex in Benghazi was all about and even further bolsters the case that said weapons were then shipped on to Syria via Turkey.

With the pope excommunicating the Mafiosa yesterday, I can only hope Pelosi and her ilk are next.

Can’t have that since it would get in the way of the DNC Ted Kennedy sainthood project.

Bingo. The Dem Coalition of People Who Like Cheap Shiny Objects

Cindy Munford on June 22, 2014 at 11:50 AM

If he thinks any solution is underway, he’s dead wrong. What is underway is the building of a federal power structure so complete that any individual’s life can legally be destroyed at the whim of a bureaucrat. Your healthcare can be postponed or denied. You can be mercilessly audited and when your court date arrives, you can be denied access to your own records to answer questions you must answer under oath. Your business can be shutdown completely at a moment’s notice. Your weekly payroll credit lines can be denied. Your land can be taken and given to another individual. Your company can be fined for not using ingredients in your product that don’t even exist!

Where is any solution pushing any of this back?

“This Week” on ABC
• Dick Cheney – Arch-Duke of the Neocons
• Sonia Sotomayor – Activist race-victim Liberal on the Supreme Court
• Keith Ellison – Whiny apologist for IslamoNazis and garden-variety Kook Left Liberal, natch
• Adam Kinzinger – True RINO (Heritage: 47%)
• Moderator: Liberal

…Ha ha Jaibones…I may have to watch this! Arch-Duke!
You’re good!

We can try the local rallies but they have to be big and impressive. A lot of people got a little gun shy about being called racists bigots last time out.

Seen what those racist Canadians are doing? They are trying to limit the number of immigrants to their country! Can you believe that?

Interesting – Rand Paul goes from “libertarian with increasingly little in common with conservatives” -Meet The Press

to 98% ACU and 96% Heritage conservative ratings – CNN

Amjean on June 22, 2014 at 9:15 AM

Yeah…all over the place. But I was startled by both ratings. The first comment is my view and mostly influenced by his foreign policy views, which are basically Ron Paul’s. Rand has also tried to walk a thin line on a number of issues that have not resulted in votes.

I am more suspect of him than ever. Ratings are bizarre to me.

Jaibones on June 22, 2014 at 9:29 AM

I, myself, was one of those with a rallying cry to “get those that
caused 9-11″; believing the government and the news media; not really questioning the “facts” they provided. Now, I am a little
wiser. I think those calling Rand Paul an “isolationist” are labeling him so Americans will think he wants all of us to sit on
our hands and ignore the rest of the world. In listening to him
speak, I don’t find that at all. I find he takes a reasoned approach to analyzing a situation. I also do not trust a word
that Marco Rubio or Haliburton Cheney have to say on the matter.
It is political posturing at its worse. It is also interesting
that the strongest criticism comes from repubs; mostly traitors to
conservative standards.

If someone wants to jumpstart us to war, I would tell them, “send YOUR sons and daughters first. Our military running all over the world costing taxpayers billions of dollars and lost lives, needs to be curtailed dramatically. On the other hand, we need the best military so we can scare others in to not attacking either us or our allies. Obama has the US appearing weak and that is why Russia and the Muslim terrorists are gaining strength.

High unemployment in certain areas really brought this to a head quickly. Obama needs to get a clue!

The gap between FNC and the rest of mainstream media gets smaller all the time. Murdoch and Ailes have discovered they can keep numbers high by staying just to the right of CNN.

I have been Faux-free for nearly three years and am far happier.

bw222 on June 22, 2014 at 1:06 PM

from “The Corner” on Norah O’Donnell’s interview with Obysmal for Face the Nation:

He added that the immediate problem is that ISIS is ”destabilizing a country that could spill over,” but they are “just one of a number of organizations that we need to stay focused on,” including al-Qaeda in Yemen and Boko Haram.

“What we can’t do is think that we’re just gonna play whac-a-mole and send U.S. troops occupying various countries wherever these organizations pop up,” Obama said.

The president rejected the idea that the power “vacuum” in Syria, and thus the current threat from ISIS, could have been averted if the U.S. had backed moderate rebels in Syria against Bashar Assad.

“I think this notion that somehow there was this ready-made moderate Syrian force that was ready to defeat al-Assad was simply not true,” he said. “The idea that they could have defeated” Assad and jihadist groups, he added, “if we just sent a few arms, was a fantasy.”

Er, isn’t the arming of a “moderate Syrian force to defeat al-Assad” exactly what the O adminstration did?

There were no clear “moderate” Syrian forces against Assad. The O administration covertly spirited arms to Syria to topple Assad. Unfortunately, for us and for the Syrian people the O people could not distiguish who the strong horse for liberty, religious or otherwise, is.

The deceit of Obysmal is blatant.

As an example of total B S by the LSM, juan williams equates trying to have an investigation with actually getting some answers. I can ask 1000 questions but if not even one is answered, how can you say that that was an investigation ? If I am not mistaken, most of the info that has come out about the gangster IRS / Benghazi etc., has been from private FOIA requests and lawsuits. The intellectual bankruptcy of the left is beyond my wildest nightmare!

So, you judge people by what they say, not what they do? That’s how Obama on the presidency; people believed what he said, not what he had done in his life.

Those ratings are based on actual votes.

I think that’s exactly right. Important to remember that Murdoch is a liberal billionaire and Ailes is paid to win viewers. Neither one could give a fig about our political views; for all we know they don’t have any.

Jaibones on June 22, 2014 at 6:21 PM

ACU always gives the most favorable ratings. The American Conservative Union isn’t conservative and hasn’t been for over a decade. The ACU is a wholly owned subsidiary of the RINO-Crony Capitalist Partnership.

What I meant is that people believed what he said not what he did. I’m sure you noticed that he (Obama) says is the opposite of what he is doing. What I am trying to say is “actions speak louder than words”.
