Open thread: Sunday morning talking heads

posted at 8:01 am on June 15, 2014 by Allahpundit

Most pols who’ve just taken an unholy beating in a primary would hide and lick their wounds. Not Eric Cantor. He’ll be on not one but two of the big five this morning (“This Week” and “State of the Union”) to explain what it’s like to be the first sitting majority leader tossed out of office. Expect him to be magnanimous towards Dave Brat and tea partiers: All signs point to him running again for office in Virginia eventually.

Expect lots of chatter about Iraq and ISIS on all five shows too, of course, although 95 percent of it will be variations of “the situation is critical” and “there’s not much we can do.” Your best bet if you don’t want to watch Cantor is “Meet the Press,” where Mitt Romney will be on to drop an I-told-you-so on Obama for his withdrawal from Iraq and to comment on the 2016 Romneymania that’s running wild among his inner circle and virtually no one else. The full line-up is at Politico.

.

The bane of our US political careerists. They never can just go away gracefully, even when they’re not elected.

Cantor’s had over twenty years living on the taxpayer dollars and he’s now able to leave Congress with more than adequate benefits, also thanks to the taxpayers. He should have the grace to go find work in something other than political office. But it’s an exceptional failing for these career-politicians that they just can’t change. Which is, unfortunately, bad for our nation.

Lourdes on June 15, 2014 at 8:25 AM

Expect him [Cantor] to be magnanimous towards Dave Brat and tea partiers:

In other words, a further demonstration of what a lying sack of sh!t Cantor really is.

The Sunday morning DNC Media Propaganda Shows are on the air!

This week an extra special look-back at why America hated George Bush and elected a know-nothing liberal nitwit – O’Bozo, the Clown President.

Let’s have a gander:

“Meet the Press” on NBC
• Mitt Romney — RINO squish, here to explain why his heretofore unknown foreign policy ideas were better, or something
• Joe Manchin — Liberal Democrat who pretends not to be
• Peter King — Liberal Republican (and nitwit) who doesn’t pretend not to be

“Face the Nation” on CBS
• Lindsey Graham – Closeted gay RINO
• Reince Priebus – leader of the GOP establishment, but otherwise likable conservative
• Tom Donilon – know-nothing Liberal Democrat political hack

“This Week” on ABC
• Eric Cantor – RINOish lame duck soon-to-be lobbyist
• Mike McCaul – Conservative, 1st of the Day!
• Peter Chiarelli – O’Bozo Pentagoner
• Luis Gutierrez – sleazy race-victim Liberal Dem

“Fox News Sunday” on Fox
• Mike Rogers – former Conservative
• Greg Walden – RINO
• Tom Price – One of the most Conservative members of the House

“State of the Union” on CNN
• Cantor – RINOish lame duck
• Graham – RINO
• Adam Kinzinger – 2nd term RINO from Illinois
• Tulsi Gabbard – Kook Left Fringe Liberal

“Political Capital” on Bloomberg TV
• Tom Davis – Former VA Republican
• John Negroponte – Bushite State Department

“Newsmakers” on C-SPAN
• Xavier Becerra – race-victim Liberal Dem

“Al Punto” on Racist TV / Univision
• Cecilia Muñoz – Kook Left affirmative action Liberal
• Henry Cuellar – Liberal

“Enfoque on Mexicans” on Telemundo
• Cuellar – Liberal

Summary — lot of liberals, as always, since that is the basic point of these shows anyway. But increasingly the GOP representation is dominated by RINO squishes. To the left, a Republican with a military background is only useful if he is a (gay) JAG corps sissy like Graham, or a pro-amnesty RINO pilot like Kinzinger, or a (gay) Navy Reserve intelligence poof like Mark Kirk. Or, of course, the exceedingly rare Democrat who served. (OK, that was just silly, wasn’t it?)

As for the Lib Dem side, you would think the country was 80% Hispanic, not 17%. Ah, but how to press the amnesty goal without propaganda from Hispanerica?

Score: a solid C-, despite all the Rs you are seeing.

I have a new favorite GOP Asshole RINO — Adam Kinzinger. Pointed out his astonishingly worthless voting record last week, but I want to do it again. Part of it’s personal — I campaigned for this prick; made phone calls from his New Lenox campaign dump.

Since then he has gotten elected with Tea Party support, begun voting like Mark Kirk, beat out a real conservative when the Dems gerrymandered their districts together.

Seriously — his hilarious 52% conservative rating in 2013 brings his 3 year total at ACU to 66%. So on three votes, he gives the GOP 2 and the Dems 1.

I am pretty sure I’d rather have a Democrat in the seat than this jackass. He must be primaried.

Note: as for his mentor Mark Kirk. there are no challengers to his RINO-ness. He makes Arlen Specter look like a Tea Party favorite.

Romney has the skill set to fix the government bureaucracy, short of that, we should be hiring Bain to fix the VA hospitals. The media decided long ago that the kind of talk from a Romney or a Paul Ryan about the picayune details of managing government and finance and organizational flow charts are BORING! Too bad BORING knows how to fix things. NO, we need more political celebrities telling us what to do, we need Identity Candidates and figureheads. If Romney were in D.C. I might not even know he was there, I might be so busy following the economic change, watching the GDP increase, seeing my tax bill go down and young people creating new jobs and careers for themselves.

.
When the Democrats figured out they could blame Hoover for all the problems the country was experiencing, the form was set so that it could be filled whenever necessary. Think of all the Republican politicians that the leftist media demonizes: Hoover, Joseph McCarthy, Nixon, Dubya, Romney “The Tax Cheat” and many others (don’t forget Scott Walker!)
.
Now think of all the Democrat politicians that the media has fed criticism to its readers and viewers about… think harder! Even War Liar LJB and womanizer JFK were off limits. The biased liberal media (including Chris “Lemme Interrupt You” Wallace) are the problem because they keep feeding the citizenry the same lies and soon, the lies are accepted dogma, like religion.
.
Media needs to fix itself or face limits in its First Amendment rights.

I believe him. Because he’s as senile as Byrd was in his last term.

If the MS GOP voters actually re-elect him, it will prove the libmedia is right about people from Mississippi. But I think it is now obvious his problem is medical and won’t improve and I think the MS GOP will make the right choice. It’s so obvious that it hardly needs debate. What, 42 years in the Senate just isn’t enough for Cochran?

RedState: Thad Cochran unaware Eric Cantor lost his primary and supports Obamacare

People will probably say I’m mean. But when our octo-Senators go dotty like Byrd and Cochran (there are a few others like Feinstein), there is still someone behind the throne exercising that power, unelected and unaccountable. This has happened many times with various aging kings or the inbred royals of Europe like the Habsburg and Bourbon dynasties who finally died out from becoming too impaired to breed with their sisters and first cousins.

Lots of talk on TV and and here at Hot Air about Iraq getting invaded, but not much in either venue about AMERICA BEING INVADED!

Obama’s DACA EO giant magnet for illegal immigration is working exactly as planned, courtesy Cloward-Piven.

Hot Air editors: have you missed the drudge headline??? OK, I’ll make the missing post for you:

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/jun/14/border-agents-lament-mexican-gang-members-entering/

Border Patrol officials are swamped by the number of minors crossing illegally into the United States and frustrated that they can’t turn away known Mexican gang members.

Chris Cabrera, vice president of the National Border Patrol Council Local 3307 in the Rio Grande Valley, said that confirmed gang members in Mexico — including those from Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) — are coming into the country to be reunited with their families, National Review reported Friday.

“If he’s a confirmed gang member in his own country, why are we letting him in here? … I’ve heard people come in and say, ‘You’re going to let me go, just like you let my mother go, just like you let my sister go. You’re going to let me go as well, and the government’s going to take care of us,’” Mr. Cabrera told the magazine.

He said that the only way to solve the problem was to implement harsher restrictions on who can be allowed to cross.
“Until we start mandatory detentions, mandatory removals, I don’t think anything is going to change. As a matter of fact, I think it’s going to get worse,” he said, National Review reported.
Other Border Patrol officials said that officers must treat minors with gang-affiliated tattoos the same as anybody else wishing to cross the border.

“It’s upsetting that a lot of them are 16 pr 17 years old and a lot of them are not going to face deportation,” said Art Del Cueto, president of the National Border Patrol Council Local 2544 in Tucson, Ariz, National Review reported.
Mr. Cabrera told the news agency that the Rio Grande Valley location has nine stations. The largest facility is in McAllen, Texas, with a capacity of 275 people. Its agents sees between 700 and 1,500 people daily.

Iraq Air Force Strikes Positions as Obama Sends Warship
Iraqi military helicopters attacked positions held by Sunni Muslim militants north of Baghdad as the U.S. moved an aircraft carrier into the Persian Gulf for possible air strikes to support the Shiite-led government.

The attacks yesterday in areas including the northern province of Nineveh killed a “great number of” gunmen belonging to the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, or ISIL, Iraq’s Defense Ministry said on its website.

We also need someone to shine the spotlight on corruption and crony capitalism. Sarah Palin is your gal for this one.

No to Mittens running again fir POTUS. The GOPe reminds me of Hollywood. They both keep putting out sequels which suck. Mittens had his turn, no do overs!

neyney on June 15, 2014 at 10:54 AM

My guess is – most GOP votes feel this way – to one degree or another.

jake-the-goose on June 15, 2014 at 11:55 AM

What he needs to do is to start sticking it in obaME’s eye by saying things like “are the 80′s still asking for their foreign policy back” and pointing out all of the lies that this administration told and tells everyday. Going away is not an option.

VegasRick on June 15, 2014 at 11:53 AM

Except VegasRick, evidently. Let me state this as plainly as possible:

Mitt Romney needs to stop doing interviews or answering questions because he sounds like a whiny loser and/or a know-it-all brat. He has zero chance of being the 2016 Republican nominee at this point, and he knows it. Every time another quote from him hits the headlines, he damages the (R) brand a bit more even though he is often correct. He’s like the kid who wakes up a 2am with the perfect comeback the night after he is insulted by a bully. It’s too late. Give it up. Regardless of how clever the comeback is, he still sounds like an idiot when says it the next day.

If his supporters among “power brokers” on the GOPe side want to improve his standing in the eyes of his base or voters in general, then THEY can go on the Sunday talk shows and tell everyone why he was right and rub Obama’s face in it. If there was a concerted effort in doing this, then I suspect it might be possible to build some momentum for him towards 2016. For him to do it is childish and off-putting.

Furthermore, if he said things like you suggest, then he would be rightfully ground into dust by both the national media and conservative media. He is just on the edge of that result as it is. Unless you are BHO living in an unnatural bubble of protection created by a sycophant media, those are the kinds of things surrogates say, not the politician himself.

If one believes that illegal immigration and amnesty are bad for the country and has any measure of moral fortitude, then s/he might pen an article pointing out the horrible humanitarian crisis on the border (as you have outlined).

If one believes that illegal immigration and amnesty are good for the country and has no moral fortitude, the s/he would probably ignore any horrible humanitarian crisis as long as it advances the goal of amnesty.

There are certainly gradations and combinations between these two extremes, but none that would allow a person to completely ignore the humanitarian crisis on the border.

Sometimes responders go off script. But, other points against Cantor that perhaps, other R congressional people may want to note (which so far, they’re not):

1 – Cantor’s staff coughed up enough $$$ ($6500) to shut down an exclusive DC watering hole so they could drown their loss in private – who wrote off that tab?
2 – According to George WIll, Cantor is THE “go to” guy for the Export/Import Bank negotiations of which Boening receives mega benefits. (BUT, remember, Boeing does make safe airplanes so….)
3 – Immigration appeasement is something the Chambers and ag industries want but not necessarily the rest of the US population.
4 – And most likely the core issue: Cantor forgot who sent him to DC – he ignored his constituency and they got fed up. The first three point to Cantor’s focus – “for me and not for thee” so, while I’m a very active R, I still want the DC crew to remain grounded in why we must win this fall. Forget the appeasement to the K Street crowd. It will kill all of us eventually so you might as well take a stand NOW.

I would say he shouldn’t do sit-down interviews like that. He should instead use a lot of one-line zingers on the topic when he shows up to campaign around the country. In this way, he would largely fly under the libmedia radar and help GOP candidates since the only way to actually hurt Obama/Reid is to elect Republicans to a Senate majority. That and that only. He can try to salvage his own reputation another time.

You are right that Mitt is going about this the wrong way by falling for these offers of libmedia pundit shows. McStain is also badly overplaying his hand, given what a notorious warmonger he is. And much as I fault the Stain for it, he is entirely right about it this time. Just because a watchdog yaps a lot doesn’t mean that sometimes there isn’t an actual varmint approaching.

Was doing some research on the contractors last evening and came across a blog by contractors, with one making a snide remark that “Sallyport” had offered him a job, which he’d turned down. Thinking they probs knew more about this subject from the inside, I then looked up Sallport’s site. This is what it says.

At this time all Sallyport employees operating in Iraq are operating at secure locations in the country or have been relocated to safe sites in the region. Our first priority is the safety and security of our personnel.

Individuals seeking additional information regarding their Sallyport employee family members can contact the Sallyport Hotline at (703) 676-3211.

So, it seems they are safe at this moment.

So Rinsing Repeat says that Cantor loss because he was campaigning for other House Members, and not the Amnesty push. Lindsey Graham McCain agrees. So why did Cantor flip on his position then? Hot news from the F.U. Party

Brock Robamney on June 15, 2014 at 3:02 PM

where Mitt Romney will be on to drop an I-told-you-so on Obama for his withdrawal from Iraq and

The problem is that the people Romney needed to vote for him in 2012 to win him the election don’t care about Iraq. This issue does not move the needle.

GOP is unserious unless it looks at why Romney turned off winnable votes.

On Chris Wallace’s show they stated the WHite House today said that the embassy will not be evacuated.

Makes me wonder about the possibility for a WH planned “wag the dog” pretext scenario for air strikes.

Well, I didn’t say I ever actually voted for the Stain (or Odinga). To me, voting for Stain means you’ve already lost. Still, when he’s finally right, he’s right. Miz Lindsey too. It still seems so wrong to ever agree with either of them but you know what they say about stopped clocks being correct for a moment, twice a day.

STILL KNOWN RETRACTION FROM HOT AIR…

Hot Air used an edited MSNBC video the other day to attack Brat, and have yet to post a retraction. Even though Newsbusters proved that it was heavily cut to make Brat appear unsure and ignorant…

A conga line of RINO opinion here is one thing, but using propaganda generated by the left to attack the Tea Party is another…

I looked at that site….so is HotAir getting a bad reputation just recently, or has this been going on for a while?

OHoh, now BigFurHat is getting involved. :/
BTW – As of now the only blogger besides me with enough balls to call out these shills for the establishment is BigFurHat at iOwnTheWorld.com.

avagreen on June 15, 2014 at 8:18 PM

@avagreen – They have had a bad rep for a while. Everyone gives them a pass because of what they once were.

People have had it with RINOs. If Hot Air doesn’t wake up they will meet the same end as Cantor…

From church to the golf course for a lovely, windy day. Sorry I missed the challenge.

Clearly I am in no position to speak with perfect authority on the issue of Graham’s latent homosexuality, as you are in no position to to speak with perfect authority on your assertion of his heterosexuality. He’s as queer as a three dollar bill.

To be fair, IOwnTheWorld is sometimes nutters at times. I used to post there…until the elections of 2008. They were totally against Governor Perry b/c of some piecemeal reporting by Pam Gellar (a nut in her own right), calling Perry friendly and soft towards Muslims, which is NOT true.

But, the main group over there wouldn’t have it including BFH, who more or less said if anyone was a fan of Perry, their comments weren’t welcomed over there. Mr. Pinko (a total egotist) was even deleting my comments, or editing them which was against policy. He got demoted over it when I complained to the head person there and no longer has editing privileges.

So, I’ll take BFH’s opinions with a grain of salt, based upon my own experiences with him/the site/Mr. Pinko.

• Lindsey Graham – Closeted gay RINO
Jaibones on June 15, 2014 at 8:39 AM

Perhaps this was said in jest – Graham is NOT gay – so I suggest a little caution when throwing that out there. It is gasoline to some.

Brock Robamney on June 16, 2014 at 6:05 AM

@avagreen – I didn’t know about about your Geller, Perry, Pinko problem – Perry’s grade k debating skills on top of his attacks on Cruz are enough on their own to sour me on Perry. But it sounds like BFH did the right thing.

Regardless of what you think of IOTW, the documented RINOism here at HA stands on its own. You can fact check it yourself at im41.

They plainly used an edited MSNBC tape to attack Brat, and they were undoubtedly bitter about Cantor’s loss.

If you can’t see that, you can’t see much. Makes me wonder if Geller and PINKO had it right.
