Mika Brzezinski goes off on Hillary’s ‘contrived’ book, ‘tone-deaf’ comments

posted at 10:01 am on June 10, 2014 by Noah Rothman

MSNBC co-host Mika Brzezinski has had it with her fellow Morning Joe guests whitewashing Hillary Clinton’s comments about her family emerging from the White House “dead broke.” While she said that the statement is true, and her family also struggled when they made the transition into public service, she implored her fellow broadcasters to stop angling for an interview with Clinton and comment honestly about how politically “tone-deaf” her statement was.

Along with ceding Republicans the traditional Democratic advantages of a youthful candidate and a vigorous primary process, Joe Scarborough began by observing that Clinton would likely represent the candidate more closely linked to Wall Street than the eventual GOP nominee. “There is a problem,” he said. “A tone-deaf problem.”

“It’s not just a little tone-deaf,” Brzezinski agreed. “I don’t think it gets a pass.”

“Everybody stop,” she demanded. “Everybody stop thinking you’re going to get some sort of interview with her.”

She noted that the Clintons’ expected income from speaking fees was being reported widely in 2001 during the inauguration of George W. Bush. “And for her to do a book and to have a section on this saying we were dead broke and it was hard, let me just tell you, that shows just how contrived the book is,” Brzezinski declared. “That’s a huge mistake.”

Defending the Clintons, MSNBC host Thomas Roberts suggested the former secretary of state may have just been blunting criticism of her family for “living the American dream.”

“No,” Brzezinski interrupted.

Time’s Mark Halperin noted that a Republican with a multimillion dollar annual income with ties to Goldman Sachs who cried poverty in a pre-presidential book “would be eviscerated.”

Not to be outdone, Brzezinski went on to lambaste Democrats pining for a return of the 1990s. “Hey, by the way, Bill Clinton? That’s over,” she said. “He is not running.”

Where to begin?

Is it the dream of every American to live on the taxpayers’ dole and housing into middle age, convert 1,000 into 100,000, while working for one of the top lawfirms in the world, while also making incredible land deals, while being the wife of a president and former governor, while owning multiple estates (not houses), while sending daughter to the most expensive private schools/universities…and lamenting that “we were dead broke”, as a 1%r?

Only in America, where the media are worse than Pravda now.

Hillary would be better than Obama, though only because it’s such an incredibly low bar to measure up against. The Clintons treated, and will continue to treat, the country as their privately owned property. That may sound nasty – but compare it to Obama, who treats the country as a property of a person he hates with passion.

Rix on June 10, 2014 at 10:18 AM

Not to be outdone, Brzezinski went on to lambaste Democrats pining for a return of the 1990s. “Hey, by the way, Bill Clinton? That’s over,” she said. “He is not running.”

The unspoken message by many Democrats touting Clinton is that if Hillary turns out to be as big a fark up at governing as Obama’s turned out to be, it’s no big deal, because Bill can clean up her mess. For anyone to say it openly would be to bring the wrath of the feminists down on their head, but the basic attitude when Hillary’s flaws are brought out, even by non-Republicans like Mika, is “What difference does it make?”

Her line from 1992 that “You’re getting two for the price of one” — which back then was just a sop to the 90s version of the Democrats’ ‘War on Women’ really is the main selling point in 2014-16 for her competence, since nothing she’s actually done back to her days getting fired from the Watergate Committee shows she’s executive material.

After college, when I started working, I first squatted in a dorm room. I used my pocket knife to move the bolt. Then I graduated to sleeping on a coworker’s couch til I had saved enough for a cheap apartment. The only thing I had in the fridge was government cheese (thanks to a Reagan program to distribute surplus cheese) and cheap beer.

That’s being flat broke. Not buying a 5 bedroom house in NY so you can carpet bag your way into the Senate while your husband gets a $200,000 federal pension (plus whatever he got from Arkansas.)

Even Obama realized that Bill Clinton is more competent, when he abandoned the podium at a presser and let Bill Clinton take over for him.

What did Hillary do while she was First Lady? Hillarycare, which gave Republicans the House for the first time in 40 years? It would be easy for Republicans to tie her to Obamacare, because she tried the same thing in 1993.

When Hillary tried to act on her own, not only did we have the Benghazi disaster, but her “reset button” was supposed to bring peace, but it only brought Russian soldiers into Ukraine. The Russians weren’t doing that when the Bushes were President…

This first campaign related foray demonstrates why Hillary will not be the Democratic nominee in 2016. She is a terrible campaigner with no ideas other than elect me to get the first woman president because I deserve it. I think she will never officially announce her candidacy because she will self-destruct before she gets that far.

By the way, her admission that she will have to be on blood thinners the rest of her life is proof that she had a stroke in 2012.

Really floored that Mark Halperin said that. He is right, of course.

I think more people are “over” the Clintons than either of them or their sycophants believe. Hillary blew her chance in 2008 and it is amazing that anyone in the Democratic Party really thinks she is entitled to the nomination now. No oterh candidate in the history of the party has gotten away with blowing a primary so badly and then come back to win the nomination 8 years later.

I don’t think anyone expects Bill to be anything but an occasional visitor to the White House if Hillary is elected. Their marriage is a joke. Hillary and her cult have always believed she was the smartest of the two, she just didn’t have the political talent that he had.

She will have to keep Bill as far away from her as possible during the campaign if she runs, because she is so obviously deficient in political skill compared to him. And he looks very, very old and frail now – the more he appears the more obvious is her age as well.

I hear you and that is why I use the term Faux in front of it. I ceased calling myself a Libertarian when Reason Magazine starting focusing its energies beating the drum for drug legalization and other personal autonomy issues. Now, I am not opposed to drug legalization but such issues were not core to a traditional libertarian. They were focused on extending free markets and strengthening the institutions that support republican government. Your decision to support or oppose a particular issue relating to personal autonomy was based on whether you thought it would strengthen or weaken civil society. What we call Libertarianism today is all about personal autonomy and has very little to do with liberty. Progressive are all for granting a lot of personal autonomy because it encourages behaviors that cause civil society to breakdown and thereby increasing the power of the government over peoples lives.

weedisgood will be along shortly to stand up for his sweetheart, I’m sure.

From Celebritynetworth.com – “Hillary Clinton is an American Democratic Politician, with a net worth of $21.5 million.”

Oh yeah, she’s suffering horribly. Slick Willy is at 55M. I’m not sure if that is a combined net worth.

Cherokee on June 10, 2014 at 11:49 AM

I believe neither Hillary nor Fauxcahontas will be the Democrat nominee. I actually think it will be Andrew Cuomo.

rockmom on June 10, 2014 at 11:13 AM

My money’s on Castro or some other Hispanic, actually. Just thinking like a Dem here for a moment. And now I feel the need to bathe in bleach to try and defunkify from even that momentary dip in the slime.

Mika Brzezinski goes off on Hillary’s ‘contrived’ book, ‘tone-deaf’ comments

Since when do I care what Mika Brzezinski “thinks?” Her last original thought was years ago.

Deafdog on June 10, 2014 at 12:17 PM

This is seriously good news since, after MK, I truly lust after Mika a lot but, unlike MK, absolutely hate to hear her talk. Until now. Maybe, maybe MSNBC is …. no, I won’t go there. I will just continue to lust after Mika and bear the horribleness of it.

What the hell makes this woman so special?

rockmom on June 10, 2014 at 10:54 AM

As a candidate? The word starts with a “v.”

She’s a virago?

My memory is a bit hazy but I seem to recall the Clintons departing the WH with a few things that did not belong to them and were returned later. Man they must have really been broke.

booter on June 10, 2014 at 12:28 PM

Truthfully, I believe the Dims dream candidate is Michelle Obama.

Black, female, clearly oppressed, marxist Amerikkka-hater, toned arms and a real beauty to boot…

***

I’m not kidding. Well, yeah, about the beauty thing, but otherwise I’m totally serious.

$8M book advance deal signed with Simon & Schuster in December 2000 before leaving the White House.

Watch and LEARN how the far left Ds get behind a SINGLE candidate to take her down.

The Millenials can’t subsidize anything with the state of the economy/country the Boomers and Gen Xers helped to create. They’re currently stuck without a job living with mom and dad.

Boomers at least had their prime earning years, the next couple generations will wish they had those opportunities…

nextgen_repub on June 10, 2014 at 1:08 PM

If I’m reading the smoke signals correctly, a movement is forming for Fauxcahontas. Hillary will still probably get the nomination, but she’ll have to firm up her You-Didn’t-Build-That credentials in order to beat Warren.

Mika, whatever you do, avoid Fort Marcy Park.

Bitter Clinger on June 10, 2014 at 1:25 PM

A rare “moment of sanity” for Mika…welcome to reality.

The economy is cyclic. The Boomers and the Xers made the 80s throught 00s boom. We created the new technologies that radically altered the economy. We earned our way and payed our way as well.

The bulk of the Boomers hit the job market in the 70s which in many ways resembled today’s economy. It was tough to get jobs but we didn’t move back home and spunge off our parents. We made our way through the thicket and went on to be successful. The reason I doubt that the Millenials will meet the challenge is that too many of them have run home to have mommy and daddy take care of them like children and as a generation they are perhaps the least educated generation in a century. They are ones who put Obama back in office in 2012 because he was cool and Romney was stuffy.

So if you are a Millennial, it is your generation that screwed the pooch not ours so go whine in your mommy’s basement.

When you lose the natural blonde vote, is it over before it started.

Bmore on June 10, 2014 at 10:08 AM

Oh, make no mistake the ‘natural blonde’ would still vote for billary if her name is on the ballot.
