Illegal aliens are fed up with politicians or something

posted at 2:31 pm on June 7, 2014 by Jazz Shaw

Ruben Navarrette is a frequent opinion columnist for CNN and the man has a lot to say on subjects involving race relations and immigration reform (among other topics). This week he turns his attention back to the subject of “undocumented” immigrants to our nation and finds that some of the most high profile members of this elite criminal class are pretty “fed up” with politicians and their handling of the subject. One case in point who attracts his attention is Erika Andiola.

Andiola is one of the most famous DREAMers in the country. In 2012, she appeared with nearly three dozen other undocumented immigrants — including journalist Jose Antonio Vargas — on the cover of Time magazine.

In September 2013, she began an eye-opening adventure when she went to Washington to work for Rep. Kyrsten Sinema. She lasted four months.

She left after concluding from conversations with other congressional aides that Democrats would prefer not to solve the immigration problem because they would rather use it a club to bludgeon Republicans.

She wrote about her experience and observed that Washington was driven by “political games — games that are causing too much pain in our community.” She also declared that the immigrant community and the American people have more power to affect change than “politicians inside the beltway.”

Truth-telling won’t make you popular. And for some in the immigrant advocacy movement, Andiola is now persona non grata.

She is attacked on social media, and — while she used to be a frequent guest at the White House for policy meetings on immigration — she has recently been yanked out of line several times while waiting to enter for one event or another.

Navarrette makes two points here which deserve attention, though for different reasons. The first is one which appears to have been obvious to conservatives and those concerned with national security for a long time: Democrats, by their actions rather than their words, really don’t care about immigration reform as a goal. To the extent they are willing to address the immigration question, it’s far more valuable as a talking point to bash the GOP in the hopes of glomming on to the coat tails of a perceived demographic shift taking place in the nation. Actually solving the perceived immigration problem would actually be self-defeating for the Donkey Party, as it would remove a powerful piece from the chess board. But is it really that powerful?

This Democrat inaction, of course, leaves people like Andiola disillusioned with Nancy Pelosi and all her ilk (as well as a president setting records for deportations), though it doesn’t necessarily drive them into the arms of the Republicans. But when you add those numbers to the many legal immigrants who resent the idea of others getting head of the line privileges at the stroke of a Washington pen when they had to work so hard to earn their citizenship, it may turn this issue into a wash rather than the electoral goldmine they’d hoped for. The Left loves to refer to the GOP as the Party of No (action) – unjustly in most regards – but in this case the facts above make a strong case for doing nothing beyond insisting on better border control and more stringent enforcement of existing laws.

The other point which Navarrette makes – without intending it – is found back in that opening paragraph. This woman is famous. She was on the cover of Time magazine. She got a job working for a member of congress. And yet she was actively engaged in criminal behavior until she received a two year waiver under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. I understand that she – and many others – would like to see the laws changed, but they haven’t been changed yet. And though we’ve discussed it before, it bears repeating: even understanding that it’s impossible for ICE to find every illegal in the country and get them on buses.. surely they could have found her.

You don’t have to find every one of them you just make it very difficult for them to function within society and settle for a 98% success rate.

It’s a game the politicians are playing and they honestly don’t care what the laws actually are.

Yeah, it’s heartbreaking that people here illegally that can’t vote, and so have no say in our political system, are fed up with politicians. Real shame.

Here’s a suggestion: Make yourself legal, and then seek citizenship through the proper channels. Once you can vote I’ll give a flying Fluke you’re upset with politicians.

Something to discuss: It is apparent that Democrats don’t care that much about “immigration reform,” per se, or they’d have done it in 2009-2010 when they controlled both houses of Congress. And it’s apparent that the issue is more useful to them for bludgeoning Republicans.

But here’s the point for discussion. Given the fears expressed by the majority on this site that “immigration reform”– amnesty– legalization of the illegals– would result in permanent minority status for the GOP within a decade, and a for real fundamental transformation of this country– if all of that is true, then why didn’t Democrats pass immigration reform when they could have?

I mean, which is better for Dems in the long run: to bludgeon the GOP for a few election cycles until a better bludgeon comes along, or to attain permanent majority status and bury the GOP forever?

Why didn’t they pass amnesty when they had the chance?

(as well as a president setting records for deportations)

I can read about this canard in an lefty blog.

Either correct the record or clarify the term.

What administrations in the past have called a deportation is finding someone in the US and physically removing them from the country. The term has not included people caught at the border and almost immediately returned–those are simply turnbacks. I get this from Mark Krikorian who’s an immigration warrior and one of the few people who speak honestly about immigration. Obama has been inflating his “deportation” numbers by including mere turnbacks. When it comes to tracking down illegal immigrants and shipping them home, Obama’s numbers are don’t even compare to those of previous administrations.

I’m not sure either side wants to really do anything. As long as Dems can find a way for illegals to vote, and they can, and Republican donors find a way to pay them less under the table, and they do, it’s just lip service.

Cindy Munford on June 7, 2014 at 2:55 PM

Because illegal immigrants are the perfect Democrat constituency: they cannot vote, live under threat (however remote in practice) of deportation, and make for great politics.

And they make for the perfect establishment Republican constituency because they will work for practically nothing, allowing rent seekers to find a cheap way to circumvent minimum-wage laws.

Don’t forget, the Mexican government is neck deep in collusion with these bastards.

Wanderlust on June 7, 2014 at 2:55 PM

The best outcome here for politicians is to continue to give illegals 2 year waivers of deportations.

Hiding in the shadows, right? My heart bleeds.

I realize that Obama is setting records and precedents for lawlessness. But if the US declares anything more than a nominal amnesty, tell me how we’ll be able to cite respect for the law as an American virtue in the future? In the future, if an amnestied immigrant takes a conservative position on and issue, he or she will be crucified for not supporting the lawless position given his or her history of benefiting from lawlessness.

I see an entrepreneurial opportunity here: The Break-Rule of the Month Club™. A national subscription organization (might even make it a 501c3 or 4 if we put “earth” and “peoples” and “progressive” in the IRS application) that sends out monthly newsletter proclaiming the specific ordinance or statute to be violated that month. Start small with stuff like riding your bicycle on the sidewalk in a downtown business district without a helmet and work up to non-life-threatening felonies, tax evasions, things like that.

The subscription fees would go to pay for a platoon of lawyers to assist those who are actually arrested and charged, but if the club membership is large enough it can make or break local and national politicians, overwhelm the judicial system, and– at the point where everyone knows someone in the club and they’re really nice people– the Broken Rule of the Month simply won’t be enforced.

This idea registers a 10 on the Secret Service Sarcasm Detectometer.

Because the Illegals who would actually vote if they were made “legal” are already voting. It really is that simple. When we lived in Connecticut illegals all got ID cards from the cities that they lived in and pretty much did what they wanted to do legal or not. The ones who would vote if they were made legal are already voting. There will be no massive influx of Dem voters if they passed Immigration reform.

There would be no Democrat tidal wave because those people are already voting. Somebody did it twice when I lived in CT. They used our address to vote and when I walked in the Poll Lady said no big deal and I still got to vote. They even registered and got the free town dump pass using my address too.

An activist.

I have in my inbox an email from FEMA, an Internal Communication, that is basically declaring the Illegal Immigration influx crisis (documented here by Breitbart) as a FEDERAL EMERGENCY that will take charge of/handle the “migrants” (or as they call them “unaccompanied children”).

I don’t want to compromise anyone, but it is legit.

FEMA is using FEDERAL TAX DOLLARS RESERVED FOR EMERGENCY SERVICES TO AMERICANS TO INTEGRATE ILLEGAL ALIENS INTO OUR SYSTEM.

Read that again. NOT ICE, NOT Border Patrol. NOT ATF, or any other agency LEGALLY FUNDED TO HANDLE THIS.

FEMA. Under the supposed-role of “humanitarian” concerns and “Homeland Security”?!?!

These are the first 2 paragraphs of the Internal Comm.:

As a result of an urgent humanitarian situation along the southern border, President Obama on Monday announced that Administrator Fugate will serve as the Federal Coordinating Official to lead the interagency Unified Coordination Group (UCG) to address the influx of migrant unaccompanied children.

FEMA is fulfilling its support through the UCG under the authorities provided by the Homeland Security Act of 2002 and other directives. In performing this coordination role, FEMA is not relying on its authority under the Stafford Act for major disasters and emergencies.

Why didn’t they pass amnesty when they had the chance?

de rigueur on June 7, 2014 at 2:48 PM

Because it is a problem that solves itself over time anyway. The children or grandchildren of illegals will be born here and become legal Americans. And while they wait for this new generation of lefty voters to mature, Democrats can indeed use the issue as a club to bash Republicans. Its a win-win situation for them.

Great point!
.
.

Governor Brewer of Arizona should round up every single illegal alien being dumped in her states by DHS, load them on National Guard vehicles, drive them to Washington DC, and deposit them, each and every single one, on the White House lawn…

… with a message attached to each one reading ” President Obama, this belongs to you.”

Great idea!

I wonder what kind of double-talk the idiot in the WH ( his sycophants) would use to stop that action?

The tentacles of deception are interwoven within each Gov’t program, it seems. Quietly and deadly invasive, like gas in a closed home.

Send her home, problem solved.

President Eisenhower sent back hundred of thousands of illegal aliens within a matter of days and with a fraction of the manpower and technology that we had then.

Washington simply refuses to enforce the law. The elites and the corruptocrats need a new pool of complacent slaves who will do as they’re told, rather than “rebelling” against quaint, archaic notions such as the 2nd Amendment and limited government.

The powers that be have spoken for the middle-class of the U.S. to be dissolved.

Hey, Erika…

F*ck you, and every criminal like you, you rancid b1tch. Come here legally and we can be friends. Until then, you’re nothing but a f*cking criminal, got it?

I also am a dreamer. I have a dream that for situations like we have today in Texas in which, in anticipation of amnesty, illiterate, even in Spanish, unskilled, Central American villagers with their children with them are flooding across the border where the border patrol picks them up, buses or flies them to other states, and releases them, we will instead fly them back to the capital city of the country from which they originated and release them so their government rather than US taxpayers can take care of them.

Nomas on June 7, 2014 at 9:06 PM

And here I thought it was against the law to hire someone here illegally. Shouldn’t Kyrsten Sinema be arrested?

rbj on June 7, 2014 at 2:37 PM

I was all for her being arrested back in 2006 when she was doing everything in her power to get them to register to vote. Nobody wanted to stir the pot. I gave up on Arizona.

Meh, not really on the legals, either, for awhile, anyway. We’ve already got more than we need between family repatriation, anchor babies, “temporary” work visas, and tons of refugees dispersed throughout the nation.

We need about a 5 year moratorium on legal immigration too.

If you don’t like our politicians then, tell you what, go home and work with your politicians who are obviously much better aligned to your interests.

If they aren’t and you left that Nation for this one and came here illegally, then you really have nothing to complain about.

ajacksonian on June 8, 2014 at 6:17 AM

You should see how Mexico treats illegal immigrants lol…all I want is for the US to follow Mexico’s example in this case. Problem solved.

Wanderlust on June 7, 2014 at 3:00 PM

Since a lot of the illegals flooding the US border are OTM’s….we should funnel them north into Canada?

workingclass artist on June 8, 2014 at 6:47 AM

There is only one solution to this issue from a legal perspective, as well as an economic and national security perspective. We MUST seal our porous borders, and then, just as Gil Favor would holler at the end of every ‘Rawhide’ Adventure..”Head ‘em up…Move ‘em out!!!…”…and then systematically round up every illegal alien in this country and herd them right back from whence they came. We may THEN, and only then, consider expanding on the numbers of immigrants we wish to allow into our nation and what the requirements for documentation should be. In the meantime, absolutely ZERO benefits and assistance should be given these wanton scofflaws for any reason whatsoever. That, my friends, is sound immigration policy. To hell with ‘dreamers’, ‘schemers’, or any other form of invader that ignores our sovereignty and milks our largess for their ill-gotten gains.

bimmcorp on June 8, 2014 at 8:50 AM

Of course it’s all a charade. You vote heavily Democrat and the Donkeys want you, NO MATTER WHAT YOU’VE DONE or contemplate doing in the future. That’s why euphemistically changing names from ‘illegal’ to ‘undocumented’ conveys not only a less harsh connotation but social acceptability as well.

Example: “A bank ROBBER made an ILLEGAL cash withdrawal”. (Note even this interpretation is somewhat euphemistic but , at least, it deals with the truth, albeit sugar coated.)

Now contrast that to: “A POTENTIAL CUSTOMER made an UNDOCUMENTED cash withdrawal.” Bingo! Social acceptability.

Using euphemisms to sugar coat or even totally twist the truth is not confined to illegal aliens. People who want to disarm ordinary American citizens do so under the rubric of “social concern” by disarming “nuts” to “protect all of us from the NRA and other right wing fascists.”

The term “homosexual” which connotes buggery and often same-sex rape of children (the vast majority of sexual molestation is between men and under aged boys) has been softened to “gay”.

Now we have a politician who has freed 5 fanatical terrorists for an American soldier, Bowe Bergdahl, who ,at the very least, deserted his post and may possibly have joined forces and colluded with the enemy. To cover his butt, the president’s White House staff have SWITCHED the name DESERTER, TRAITOR, COLLABORATOR- RESPONSIBLE FOR AMERICAN DEATHS (either indirectly by searching for him or directly by his teaching the Taliban how to manufacture improved IEDs)to DISTURBED YOUNG MAN, CONFUSED, DISORIENTED, MENTALLY ILL. (As well as castigating all Bergdahl’s harshly critcal fellow soldiers as “ungrateful gutter snipes”)

As usual, as with all other euphemisms the name change creates a far more sympathetic figure–”MENTALLY ILL”–one deserving of a psychiatrist’s couch, our collective tears and, indeed, worthy of exchange for 5 fanatic murderers–instead of some piece of manure deserved of our scorn and a candidate for a swift and just execution.

Face it deary,
You were used, the only voice you have is the one they gave you,
you have no standing without it. Oh and by the way, you are not the representative of the south and central American citizens living in the United States for economic reasons.
Out of curiosity I wonder if Mexicans et al would be so keen on becoming represented in the US if they were told that the prerequisite was to renounce their home countries citizenship vs. taking a five year guest worker card (revocable and deportable for felonious activity). Judging from the amount of Mexican flags flying on vehicles around here on May 5th I would say not may.
My feeling is that the Dems would never give them anything without the quid pro quo of mindlessly following the Party direction.
