Van Jones: These soldiers speaking out against Bergdahl are part of Republicans’ “orchestrated smear campaign”

posted at 1:21 pm on June 4, 2014 by Erika Johnsen

Well. This is almost as clever as his little “Benghazi-ization” zinger from the night before, in which he boldly called out Republicans for “building up” the released Taliban prisoners into a “mega threat against us” (so out of line, Republicans!) for the sake of their falsely scandal-icious narrative. Via RCP:

Now, I admit, there are important answers we have to answer here, but Sergeant Bergdahl isn’t even out of the hospital yet and already the air waves are being filled mysteriously with former soldiers just trashing the guy. What is going on here? Well, it turns out that there are Republican operatives who are working behind the scenes to get some of those guys on television. This is an orchestrated smear campaign. The implication is that President Obama should have left a U.S. soldier to die, but if he had done that, the same Republicans would be attacking him for doing that, so the whole thing is completely outrageous.

The big point there, I suppose, is that super-duper-shadowy “Republican operatives” are working “behind the scenes to get some of those guys on television.” …Yeah, so what? Is Van Jones suggesting that the soldiers personally and professionally familiar with Bowe Bergdahl don’t have a right to be heard publicly at a highly relevant moment, or perhaps even trying to imply that Republicans are somehow tampering with the veterans’ stories? Because that is total baloney, as Allahpundit aptly noted in covering the specific instance to which I think Jones is referring yesterday; the entirely independent accusations against Bergdahl from his fellow vets have already been out there for years. I might also ask Van Jones to explain how it is that the supposedly constructed “Benghazi-ization” narrative is less worthily critical than the narrative from the “Do And Say Anything To Cover President Obama’s Behind” camp to which he apparently belongs.

I love the left’s value system.

A guy who deserted and possibly defected from his Army unit is an American hero whose integrity can not be questioned. But the guys who serving with him and spent month searching for his treasonous ass- well they must be right-wing nutjobs who are liars. Bergdahl’s unit wasn’t that large and the individuals coming forward were not merely in the same division or something. Their word should not be questioned by commies like Van Jones unless he can show that their motives should be questioned. The interviews I’ve heard have the soldiers make it clear that they only think that Tali-Bowe needs to face the consequences of desertion without getting into Obama’s Traitor for Terrorists program.

The left needs to trot out just one former soldier who stands up for Tali-Bowe before I am willing to even consider the idea that these soldiers motives are as nefarious as the left would have us believe.

melle1228 on June 4, 2014 at 2:03 PM

The military never classified Bergdahl as a POW.

As Ari Fleischer pointed out, the Bush administration preferred the term “enemy combatants” for our detainees, because “Article 4 of the Geneva Convention deals with if you were to deem somebody as a prisoner of war, the U.S. government would be obligated to pay them a monthly stipend. The U.S. government would be obligated to give the al Qaeda or the Taliban detainees, the al Qaeda terrorists in Guantanamo musical instruments. Those would be obligations imposed upon a government under the prisoner of war aspect of Article 4 of the Geneva Convention.”

Haven’t we had paid commenters actually admit it before once or twice? It’s not really as unusual as you might think; online “reputation management” is part and parcel of politics these days.

Not to mention certain commenters who disappear off the face of the earth and then suddenly re-appear around election time to start spouting off again.

On topic, I am still kind of gawking that Obama is really dumb enough to actually attack these soliders as political operatives. It’s conspiracy theory stuff approaching what you’d hear from 9/11 Truthers and it’s coming right from the White House.

Question for Van: how did Abdullah survive 5 YEARS in captivity without getting his head cut off? Why was he in so insurmountable danger that we waited 5 YEARS to release him? Hmmm??? Why would American heroes violate their NDA’s and disclose that he left his post with nothing more than his knife/compass, canteen, and clothes on his back? Why would these heroes risk a court martial speaking out? Why is his name Abdullah if he was in danger?

For lighter news, it turns out there are 2 million fraudulent applications on Healthcare.gov. Obamacare and the VA are gifts that just keep on giving…

Someone tell Van Jones about soldiers, because he apparently doesn’t understand. You can’t bribe a soldier to lie about another soldier, when it comes to combat and being together in combat. There’s a bond there that is more powerful the Democrat or Republican. If they’re saying what they’re saying I’d bet it’s the truth.

It’s like when those guys came out against John Kerry, you couldn’t get people to lie about someone from combat that you fought with, just doesn’t happen. Of course, in Kerry’s instance, he was more special because he was willing to throw all combat soldiers under the bus after Vietnam.

Since when is Jay Carney a “Republican operative” you Commie?

Press Briefing by Press Secretary Jay Carney, 6/21/2013

“We also expect the Taliban to raise the issue of their detainees in discussions that we have with them if those discussions take place. And at this time we’ve made no decisions about the transfer of detainees. And in accordance with law, we would be consulting with Congress should we make any decisions about that. So we remain committed to the closure of Guantanamo Bay, as you know. But separate from that on these specific issues about individual detainees, that would be a process that is done in accordance with law.”

verbaluce on June 4, 2014 at 11:55 AM

That GOP strategists helped get the guys in touch with media is hardly surprising or damning. This is a political opportunity for the GOP, and they will take advantage. The DNC does it all the time. The difference is, the media doesn’t note the fact that the DNS stage manages “victims” or “protestors” or whatever.

It is not news that a GOP operative would try to get these guys in front of a camera. What is news is the implication that you and your brethren, including the media, are making – that because the GOP helped get the guys in front of a camera that means they are lying.

If you want to make that the standard, that any time any individual gets media help from a partisan organization – it is going to harm the left much more than the right. The left are the pros at this – stage managing people to push their agenda. Remember Cindy Shaheen? The woman with absolute moral authority because her son died in combat? She was stage managed by the left/DNC for years. (interesting note, the parents of those soldiers killed while looking for Bergdahl don’t get the same “absolute moral authority” or sympathy form the left. Their stories and the soldiers who corroborate those stories are called smears by the left).

So, your argument that somehow the fact that a GOP operative is involved in some way in getting these guys camera time means they should be ignored is absurd.

but then, everything you state is absurd/dishonest – so why should I expect anything different at any given time?

I wonder if you swoon every time the DNC stage manages a victim? Hell, let’s not forget, the WH is stage managing Bergdahl himself.

I’m really enjoying one aspect of this current particular chapter in obama’s version of ‘The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich’, which is the left’s now completely ludicrous defense of the Boy King.

Truly, there is nothing now that Barry could do that they won’t show their own collective asses to defend.

I’m waiting, at this point, for video of Barry having sex with a donkey, while wearing a chiffon prom dress, on the steps of the White House, and choking a kitten to death…to which Chris Matthews and Bill Maher will reply, “Yeah, well…the rubes just don’t GET his brand of intellectual entertainment!”

I’ve been friends with one of the Swifties (not their founder John O’Neill) for over 50 years. The man doesn’t have a dishonest bone in his body.

And as I told verbaloon yesterday when I drop-kicked his getalife into low Earth orbit, how come Thurston never filed a libel suit against them? Probably for the same reason that to this day he still refuses to release his complete military history, despite promising to do so 10 years ago. He even entered into a corrupt agreement with 3 “reporters” to keep it a secret. One from the NY Times-owned (at the time) Boston Globe, another from the far-Right LA Times, and the third from al-Associated Press.

Ironically, the AP “reporter” was the same one who would later famously heckle Romney when he was campaigning in 2012.

Because the Koch Brothers forced the Rolling Stone to publish the truth or something.

Van Jones: These soldiers speaking out against Bergdahl are part of Republicans’ “orchestrated smear campaign”

It’s not like it’d be the first time. The right viciously guards their military bona fides by routinely sliming liberal politicians who were soldiers as somehow not “real” soldiers. Kerry was only an obvious case.

I’ve been friends with one of the Swifties (not their founder John O’Neill) for over 50 years. The man doesn’t have a dishonest bone in his body.

Then why did he lie through his teeth?

Tlaloc on June 4, 2014 at 5:28 PM

I’m still calling out for van jones the commie crap eater to have his tongue ripped out and for him to be skinned and rolled in rubbing alcohol then have a salt bath.

That’s really mild substitution for what I really want done to this traitorous, communist progressive piece of septic tank sludge.

Diluculo on June 4, 2014 at 5:38 PM

….and people that defend van jones deserve twice the violence I wish on van jones.

Diluculo on June 4, 2014 at 5:39 PM

What a maroon. The way these people have trained themselves to lie and create falsehoods with a straight face to prop up a failed agenda just amazes me.

You’d think that they would have hit bottom by now…but they keep bringing out the shovel and digging in deeper.

ProfShadow on June 4, 2014 at 5:49 PM

Now, I admit, there are important answers we have to answer here, but Sergeant Bergdahl isn’t even out of the hospital yet and already the air waves are being filled mysteriously with former soldiers just trashing the guy. What is going on here?

The implication is that President Obama should have left a U.S. soldier to die, but if he had done that, the same Republicans would be attacking him for doing that, so the whole thing is completely outrageous.

Van Jones implies that this trade was the only way to “rescue” a deserter. This shows one-dimensional thinking in the White House.

BobMbx on June 4, 2014 at 6:23 PM

Hi, I’m Van Jones. I’m a racist, communist a$$hole that’s never actually done an honest day’s work in my entire life. I made more money during this interview than most of you make in an entire year. All I have to do is lie…

LONG LIVE THE STRUGGLE!!!

BigWyo on June 4, 2014 at 6:48 PM

BTW the fact that the Left is still using the term “Swiftboat” as an insult ten years later shows just how much damage they perceive was done by that group in 2004.
Del Dolemonte on June 4, 2014 at 4:22 PM

Maybe Dinesh D’Souza should write a book about Swiftboating in Benghazi with Abdullah Bergdahl and see if he can paralyze the liberal demon hordes

And today we learned that the White House did dother strategies that the military advisors were pushing — paying a ransom.
.
But that idea was rejected by the administration.

“did consider other strategies”

Tell us why Thurston, who gamed the military system by getting out of his mandatory 1 year tour in Vietnam after only 4 months (by managing to get 3 Purple Hearts in that short time span, one apparently for a self-inflicted injury) was a “real” soldier.

Especially since he then smeared his fellow soldiers when he got home.

What a Van load of sh*t!

Sherman1864 on June 4, 2014 at 7:42 PM

Hey…Van Jones is still alive! Huh. Well, if these old, harmless camel herders are of no concern to anyone, Van should have them over to spend some time with him and his family.
