CNN: Democrats worry that Obama needs to “get a spine” in VA scandal

posted at 10:01 am on May 26, 2014 by Ed Morrissey

Allahpundit included this in his QOTD thread last night, but it’s worth a look on its own for its naked political hypocrisy. We’ve heard plenty from Republicans about Obama administration incompetence in the VA scandal. What we’re not hearing, at least so far, is Democratic outrage over the same incompetence. CNN’s John King told his panel yesterday that Democrats don’t want to say anything publicly, but privately they’re furious over Barack Obama’s lack of engagement and flat-footed response to nearly every crisis that arises (via Common Cents and TWS):

“Forget for a moment that Republican outrage,” said King on his CNN show this morning. “More and more Democrats in key 2014 races are calling for the president to get a spine, they say, and fire his Veterans Affairs secretary. And what more and more Democrats are saying privately is scathing, calling the president and his team detached, flat footed, even incompetent.

“Maggie Haberman,” said King turning to a panelist, “that’s what strikes me, what democrats are saying privately in the wakes of the healthcare.gov problems, they see a president who doesn’t want to take command, doesn’t want to act fast. Raising the competence question. Some Democrats, who believe in government, [are saying] this White House doesn’t appear to have its hand on the lever.”

Haberman of Politico agreed, cited more examples, and added: “All of this adds up to somebody who just doesn’t seem at all involved.”

It’s good to know that Democrats are offended by Obama’s incompetence and spineless response, too. But if that’s the case, then why is that outrage being expressed sotto voce? Is it more important to protect Obama from criticism than it is to take action to put an end to the crisis at the VA? If they’re admitting this privately, then the veterans at risk deserve better than the public silence that equates into tacit support for Obama’s lack of action at the VA.

Obviously the democrats are racist for daring to question Obama’s competence and the media is covering up the rampant racism in the democratic party.

Get a spine ? OK, we know he doesn’t have any Gonads, I guess the Dems are wishing for one body part at a time.

[W]hy is that outrage being expressed sotto voce?

Because racism. Nothing more; nothing less.

Definition of a racist: Someone who thinks of everything in terms of race. Perfect description of a Democrat.

ss396 on May 26, 2014 at 2:41 PM

The Democrats have known what they’ve had for a long time. They couldn’t possibly not know especially since they’ve had appreciably more interaction with Obama and his administration than Republicans have. They believed that was just fine, while they had all the power and then came 2010. The Democrats did what they had to do to keep the Senate and win Obama a 2nd term. Their biggest fear is that, before the end of Obama’s second term, the whole country figures out what they’ve known (and covered up) for a long time.

Obama avoids the Republicans mostly because he knows he’s in over his head and believes if he has too much interaction with them, they’ll know it too. The dirty little secret is, they’ve figured this out a long time ago but, without support from the press, won’t say the truth for fear of being called racists once again.

Another dirty little secret, the press knows this too. You can’t have the contact they have with this White House and not know. The one thing that’s happening, that no one has control over, is his shortcomings have consequences and they’re beginning to pile up, one after the other. You can only cover so much and as these things start to pile up there is less ability to sweep them under the rug. They will, however, try to keep this as quiet as possible until after November, so they have as much control over the congressional hearings that are going to take place. If the Republicans can call the witnesses they want and have control over committee assignments, the Democrats know they can’t control it as well. Just watch, as the Banghazi hearings start how many petty games the Democrats play to discredit the proceedings, then get an idea of why they have to keep the Senate this year.

Detached, flat-footed … even incompetent.

President B.Obama — Affirmative Action Success Story, Recipient of the Chancey Gardener Award. Moving on to bigger and better things in 2016.

Position opening in 2016 — President of the United States. Part time temporary position. Excellent benefits. Free golf.

Experience Required — None. Community organizing experience a plus. Affirmative Action candidates encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities — None.

What better way to complain about one’s lack of spine than to do so in a spineless manner.

anuts on May 26, 2014 at 3:59 PM

When I said Michelle Obama was plain looking I was trying to say that that I was going to be polite and just say plain looking instead of something worse. She is terrifying, a bully and tells Barrok when to jump and how high. I was earlier just trying to be as civil as I possibly can. I loathe them both.

Joe Biden. Barack Obama is a Wise Leader with a Spine of Steel

2012 re-election.

Key West Reader on May 26, 2014 at 5:35 PM

Hahaha, we’ve been complaining about this for YEARS! Democrats finally get a spine and gripe about someone being spineless. You can’t make this stuff up. Anyone who actually expected this president to come out with decisive remarks about the VA scandal and hold someone accountable and take other reparations is an absolute idiot or has lived in a bubble the past 6 years. He is a feckless rump, always has been, always will be.

Ewps. This might have been 2008. But what difference, at this point does it make?

Get a spine? His fellow democrats want more the usual fat donations from the unions which rules work against power to clean out the VA swamp. But he and many democrats will act like they wants a real fix but little will be done in the way of accountability, gross failures will continue and somehow the GOP will be blamed.

CNN: Democrats worry that Obama Jarrett needs to “get a spine” in VA scandal

I think everyone knows that Valerie is really the President and wields the power. Obama isn’t smart enough, the reason his college records are sealed. He’s a puppet because Valerie’s probably got the goods on him.

TulsAmerican on May 26, 2014 at 10:24 AM

Valjar is the puppet operator, but not the producer/director. She answers to levels of power above her own: “Banksters”, “shadow government”, “NWO” – whatever you want to call it – that elite trans-national group that travels in their own airforce of GulfStreams and Lears.

Irony Democrats anonymously complain about the president needing to get a spine while hiding in the shadows, pot meet kettle

MI Darby on May 26, 2014 at 8:39 PM

The problem for the Democrats and their media backers going forward is that by refusing to openly break with Obama in any meaningful way, they set up the situation in 2016 where their nominee won’t be able to break from him, and will have to run as Obama’s third term.

Hillary doesn’t want to do that. Hillary wants to run as Bill’s third term, and along with the ‘War on Women’ that’s already the default strategy for the Democrats in 2016 — throw the gender card at the Republicans with reckless abandon, and tout how President Hillary will take us back to the Clinton economic years of 1993-2000, while trying to say as little negative about the current years as possible.

But that only works if the guy in the White House is willing to basically shut up and go off and play golf for most of 2016. But Bill Clinton was miffed when Al Gore didn’t use him much in his campaign in 2000, and Clinton never thought of himself as a demigod whose role as president was merely to proclaim things should happen and then wait for others to make it so. If the Clintons try to basically ignore the Obama Administration’s current incompetence by figuratively locking the president in the attic during the 2016 campaign, that’s not going to sit well with Ego Boy or his bigger supporters, who in turn could end up tossing a few not-so-subtle race cards at the Clintons, just like they did during the 2008 South Carolina primary.

jon1979 on May 26, 2014 at 8:43 PM

His surprise visit to our troops in the war he ended in Afghanistan excuses him from any previous wrong-doing! Any further criticism is racist!

PaddyORyan on May 26, 2014 at 8:48 PM

“get a spine”

This, trust me on this, not happening. It is nearly all intentional. My take is incompetence can’t explain it.

Bmore on May 26, 2014 at 10:31 PM

ss396 on May 26, 2014 at 2:41 PM

This. It’s all about racism, racism, racism, racism. They cannot criticize Obama publicly AND continue to call anyone critical of him a racist. That beloved and brutal tactic is more important to them politically than protecting the country from rotting at the top.

MT on May 26, 2014 at 10:32 PM

I guess its time for Valerie to take Barry to the woodshed again.

Sven on May 26, 2014 at 11:10 PM

Criticizing Obama would risk offending blacks and the radical left, and no Democrat who wants to be reelected is going to that publicly.

For all we know, some have been saying this privately all along, but the press wouldn’t report it. Now, though, they are beginning to see the handwriting on the wall and the cracks in the edifice.

Adjoran on May 27, 2014 at 12:36 AM

This is all BS. Libs are not mad at Obama because he has increased the tentacle of the federal government into every aspect of our lives. They are not mad because he has systematically subverted the rule of law and the very fabric of the constitution. They are not mad because he has increased the debt more than all presidents before him. They are not mad because he has wrecked US prestige and influence overseas. They are not mad because Obamacare is a job killer and a fatally flawed plan. They aren’t mad because he has seriously damaged the country for all these reasons and more. They are mad because he makes them look bad the county be damned.

warmairfan on May 27, 2014 at 12:47 AM

Our government is full of liars on both sides, now more than ever.

You can’t believe what anyone says anymore.

Sherman1864 on May 27, 2014 at 4:21 AM

This massive Obama-news coverage tells me that this is but deflection from Benghazi and the IRS scandals. All he has to do is step up to the plate and call it a national shame (Bush did it) and he’s going to fix it. Print up more cheap dollars and send in a few doctors (those death panels aren’t too busy yet)

What? Don’t you mean still?

When have the leftists ever stopped calling anyone they don’t like racists? My god, we have the former junior senator from West Virginia (junior to the KKK grand klegal DEMOCRAT from West Virginia) calling republicans racist in open hearings. Talk about irony.

Don’t be so naive, they will continue to do so and nothing will ever change that. Republican fear isn’t part of that equation.

runawayyyy on May 27, 2014 at 8:58 AM

It’ all malice, not incompetence. To believe otherwise is to make the worst error, that of underestimating your enemy.

For instance, did you notice this – Drudge had it, but I doubt it was elsewhere: White House staff tried to ‘un-ring the bell’ after revealing CIA chief’s identity:

The White House blew the cover of the top CIA agent in Afghanistan on Sunday, when the person’s name was included on a list given to reporters during a visit to the country by President Barack Obama.

This, at most, triggered the usual “They’re such amateurs…” type of comments. Wrong. Again, malice, not incompetence. Recently the CIA embarrassed the WH, and this was very simply payback with interest. The intelligence community is not happy, and President Valjar just needed to slap a little sense back into them, especially with a House Benghazi investigation coming up.

bofh on May 27, 2014 at 9:23 AM

The words “Obama” and “spine” in the same sentence??? I think the Democrats have a lot more to worry about.

Krupnikas on May 27, 2014 at 10:32 AM

The Democratic Party needs its own regime change. This will only happen when enough Democratic politicians get booted out of office. I would add the RINOs to this list of folks in need of forced retirement. Voters need to get off their butts, get informed, and get to the polls. Freedom is hard to win and easy to lose.

bartbeast on May 27, 2014 at 11:08 AM
