Video: House Democrat destroys Shinseki, Obama over VA fiasco in floor speech

posted at 5:21 pm on May 21, 2014 by Allahpundit

Via the Free Beacon, watch to the very end for the crucial counterpoint to Obama’s nonsense this morning. Namely, the VA’s problems are very well documented. When O harrumphs that he needs to study the problem or whatever, he’s transparently doing nothing more than buying time to plot his next move politically. He’s the guy who was calling VA wait times an “urgent” problem seven years ago. Now, suddenly, he needs a few weeks or months or years for you to lose interest to get to the bottom of all this. And the fact that it’s a Democrat, not a Republican, who’s on the floor laying that out tells me this is now a five-alarm fire inside a caucus that’s already panicked about being burned to the ground this November by Obama’s unpopularity. If he’s at 42 percent today, where’s he going to be in a month when his passivity, inaction, and — to borrow a Bush-era phrase beloved by the left — incuriosity about veterans languishing from VA corruption and sclerosis are firmly on the public’s radar? Wait until they find out that he hasn’t even formally met with Shinseki in nearly two years.

David Scott’s not the only Democrat in revolt either. Rep. John Barrow also called for Shinseki to go today, and the left’s favorite cable news network devoted the better part of a segment to explaining that underfunding, the all-purpose scapegoat whenever liberals are in a political jam, doesn’t explain why veterans are being shafted. The White House is in trouble.

Nice to see black politicians sticking up for black people for a change.

Although, I don’t doubt you can surf on the flop sweat in the Demo cloak rooms right now.

liblikeaslave, you are so lucky that I’m in a good mood today.

Congresswoman Duckworth, double amputee/Veteran, ripped obama too on the VA killing panels, for bonuses.

Schadenfreude on May 21, 2014 at 7:59 PM

Gut it and buy our wounded vets lifetime BCBS top-tier plans. It’ll cost less and work better.

Maybe we can use it as a stepping stone to firing the EPA, too…

Asurea on May 21, 2014 at 8:14 PM

Obama and his thugs had better be on guard as James O’keefe just may have got a tip some time ago and has been filming for months and with the tape recorder going the whole time in many VA Hospitals.

Be bad to get caught in some big fat lies with dead Iraq vets lives being the cost of the lying….

just a heads up

Heads Need to Roll at the VA

By Eugene Robinson – May 20, 2014
Finally, an authentic scandal: incompetence and deception at the Department of Veterans Affairs. Given what we know so far, more heads need to roll — and a criminal investigation should be launched.

AesopFan on May 21, 2014 at 8:21 PM

The va problems go back 8 years. Unfortunately the mother f@$@$@$ on the left and right only care as to how it makes their opponent look. 22 suicides a day is a national disgrace and some of you are absolutely giddy because it makes Obama look bad or because Democrats are speaking out.
Just like the lefty jerk wads practically celebrated on the milestones of 3000 or 4000 deaths. If the shoe fits shame on you!

Please wipe your chin off and re-adjust the “Kick Me, I Voted For O’bama” sign on your back.

Your Cult Leader, 7 years ago, promised to fix the VA in his first four years in office. He did so by appointing an Affirmative Action Military Guy to head the VA, solely because that guy:

1. Was from Hawai’i, and

2. Bashed Bush’s handling of the Iraq War.

You only care about this because it makes single-payer, government-run health care look like the callous, nightmarish, bureaucratic clusterf*ck with a body count that you’ve been warned about by people you hate.

And now Obamacare is rolling down the tracks going in that direction, which means the Democrats will be the ones holding the bag when this special brand of government-run VA-quality care comes to ALL Americans.

VA care, remember, is what Paul Krugman and Ezra Klein and the Obama Administration and all of the super-smart Top Men have been telling us is the ‘model’ for good health care run effectively for all of us.

Do you Obots ever get tired of being wrong?

Good Lt on May 21, 2014 at 11:47 PM

Guarantee you that Obama has straightened this guy out and he’ll be singing a different tune tomorrow.

OxyCon on May 21, 2014 at 11:52 PM

I’ll tell you what is happening and you will began to see it even more and the weeks and months go by. The Dems have already basically declared 2014 all but lost, but what they are looking towards is 2016, because they know if they stay with obama till then, whomever the GOP runs in 2016, even if they ran Gov. Palin, the GOP would win presidency in landslide, and anyone that remains with obama will be gone.

obama is now equal to The Plague. Why do you think Politico is reporting that basically Hillary hand-picked the dem members for select comm. They know there goose is cooked, but they don’t want it to burnt to a crisp. Otherwise the road back to the WH and congressional control will be a long road.

ConservativePartyNow on May 22, 2014 at 12:19 AM

Fixing the VA:
1) Fire Shinseki;.
2) Fire w/prejudice every administrator who is not a Vet, and replace them if it is necessary that the position be filled, with a qualified Vet;.
3) Hire a Big-? (used to be ’8′ – what is it now ’5′?) accounting firm to do a top to bottom audit using current standards – not Capitol Hill standards;.
4) As part of that audit, evaluate every employee and terminate those not rated Above Average (or whatever the first step above the mean is);.
5) In the interim, give all Vets registered with the VA vouchers to purchase outside care.

Or, just skip to ’5′ and shut it down, and sell off everything.

Del, your bitterness at anyone who has been more successful in life than you is duly noted for the childish bias that it really is.
Your utter disregard for the vets affected because of your unquenchable hate for a politician makes you one of the people I referred to earlier. Shame on you.

I admire the passion, but Representative Scott, we need to set your sights higher. The real rot is at the top.

tjmorrill on May 22, 2014 at 8:04 AM

Yes, but the President has indicated he will send troops to find the “missing” girls in Nigeria.

Maybe he should send them to find some responsibility or integrity instead?

By the way- are there any mirrors in the White House?

Marcus Traianus on May 22, 2014 at 8:11 AM

In fairness to Obama, problems with the VA have been long-standing, but the fact that they have not been addressed, much less solved, is yet another example of his lack of ability.

What I find more disturbing is the tacit, but blatant “good enough for thee, but not for me” attitude of the congressional critters creeping out of the woodwork to pile on. Tammy Duckworth, despite her injuries, probably never used VA facilities, but she had to know what the issues were. You can’t serve a week in the military without having someone tell you to avoid going to the VA. When I was younger, it seemed like there was an improperly trained VA doctor story a week hitting the front page.

Only now that the problem has gotten renewed press (and how did that happen because the LSM had to know it would fly like an arrow towards He Who Shall Not Be Criticized?) does she decide to put her “principles” on display. Is this the moment where the Dems finally throw The One under the bus, realizing that they’ve milked just about every drop of affirmative action goodness they can get out of that cow (and, no, that isn’t a backhanded dig at Moochella)?

TimBuk3 on May 22, 2014 at 9:08 AM

O’Reilly talked about a private group that bought $25 million worth of special wheelchairs and donated them to the VA. This, after the VA sought to spend $500 million on new office furniture. Why are we paying taxes to support an organization that we have to also support through charities? Makes no sense! Scrap this whole bureaucratic mess and start over with systems that work. Government must be held accountable for the money it is entrusted to manage. Right now there is no oversight at all. People are collecting paychecks & taking bonuses without doing anything to earn them. Meanwhile, John Q Public is out of work & struggling to make ends meet.

Boats48 on May 22, 2014 at 9:18 AM

Yeah, good old “underfunding”… of a department whose expenditures have effectively doubled in the last eight years.

If b.o. has any sense at all, Shinseki will be flushed with Friday’s document dump. Come Tuesday, this story will have happened months ago. By the end of next week, it will never have happened at all.

SC.Charlie on May 22, 2014 at 12:49 PM

I had to do a double take. Looks like this man in is the clear. He’s black and a Democrat, so he’s probably not racist even though he’s saying bad things about our president.

Esthier on May 22, 2014 at 1:09 PM

…he’s probably not racist even though he’s saying bad things about our president.

Esthier on May 22, 2014 at 1:09 PM

Saying bad things about our president is prima facie racism. The degree of blackness of one’s own skin is neither an excuse nor a mitigating factor. If this congressman continues along this line he risks becoming an Oreo or an Uncle Tom (i.e., a self-hating racist) like Allen West or other Republican bigots.

And implying that such a person is not racist is itself evidence that you are a racist.

Have a nice day.
