Great moments in tolerance: Howard Dean says Republicans aren’t Americans

posted at 12:01 pm on May 21, 2014 by Ed Morrissey

Old and busted: Dissent is patriotic! New hotness: People who disagree with Democrats on voter-ID laws should “go to Ukraine or Russia!” This sounds an awful lot like the America — love it or leave it” argument during the Vietnam War to which anti-war Democrats so loudly objected at the time. Look who’s suddenly equating citizenship to shut-up-ship (via Twitchy):

Howard Dean, who is still alive, told attendees at a fundraiser for a Democratic congressional hopeful that Republicans “are not American” and would “be more comfortable in the Ukraine or Russia.” He also screamed that GOP supporters should “stay away from our country.”

Dean, a former Vermont governor, a former Democratic National Committee chairman and a 2004 presidential candidate, made the statements last week in a fit of zeal as he was speaking in support of Colorado 6th Congressional District candidate Andrew Romanoff.

“This is a Republican party that has decided they like power so much that they think it’s okay to win by taking away the right to vote,” Dean told the gathered assembly of 750 people at Dora’s Mexican Restaurant in Aurora, Colo.

“They are not American,” he bellowed. “They could be more comfortable in the Ukraine or Russia but stay away from our country. This is based on the right to vote.”

Amusingly, Dean then lectured Republicans on tolerance and love:

“We have had enough of the extreme right wing,” Dean continued. “We have had enough of the politics of anger, we have had enough of the politics of hate, we have had enough of the politics of division,” Dean told the estimated 750 in attendance at Dora’s Mexican Restaurant.

Yes, let’s demonstrate tolerance and love by demanding the deportation of all Republicans to Russia. What a wonderful demonstration of open debate!

By the way, if Dean wants to deport all Americans who want stronger voter-ID laws, he’d better be prepared to deport more than a few Democrats, too:

Seven out of ten registered voters support voter ID laws, which makes them racist, or something. … The survey conducted by Fox News found a majority in every demographic (race, age, income, sex, political bent) support voter ID laws – including 53% of self-described liberals, 70% of men, and 71% of women.

A Marist poll in July of 2013 also found a majority (65%) of Americans describing themselves as “very liberal” supported Voter ID laws.

John Hinderaker writes that Dean is emblematic of a “terrible insanity” plaguing the Democratic Party of late:

A terrible sort of insanity has gripped the Democratic Party. On almost a daily basis, when you see the party’s leaders in action, you want to start edging toward the door, murmuring “Nice doggie. Nice doggie.” Today it was Howard Dean (filmed a week ago, but seen on YouTube today). He was addressing a Democratic crowd in Colorado, and went off on a tirade against Republicans. Yes, he really did say that Republicans aren’t American. And that they should stay away from the United States, and go to Russia where they belong. One gets the feeling that if the Democrats ever have the opportunity, they will have us all arrested. Or deported …

This is a very bad thing. We need two functional political parties, and these days the Democrats don’t get over the bar, no matter how low you set it. Their rants are so crazy that it is hard to tell what they are talking about. Dean says that Republicans want to “take away the right to vote.” Huh? Can you name a single Republican who has ever argued that anyone who has a right to vote should have it taken away? I have never heard such an argument made. Republicans do say that ONLY those who have a right to vote should be casting ballots, and that no one should vote more than once. Apparently Dean disagrees with these propositions, but of course he doesn’t tell us why. It is always easier to lie.

And to hate, and to suffer from projection.

“The relevant burdens here are those imposed on eligible voters who lack photo identification cards that comply with SEA 483. Because Indiana’s cards are free, the inconvenience of going to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, gathering required documents, and posing for a photograph does not qualify as a substantial burden on most voters’ right to vote, or represent a significant increase over the usual burdens of voting. The severity of the somewhat heavier burden that may be placed on a limited number of persons—e.g., elderly persons born out-of-state, who may have difficulty obtaining a birth certificate—is mitigated by the fact that eligible voters without photo identification may cast provisional ballots that will be counted if they execute the required affidavit at the circuit court clerk’s office. Even assuming that the burden may not be justified as to a few voters, that conclusion is by no means sufficient to establish petitioners’ right to the relief they seek.”

LOL. A Mexican restaurant in Colorado. Hmmmmmm . . . wonder who Dean was directing that message to? Certainly not the millions of illegal aliens/illegal voters currently populating states like Colorado and AZ, right?

There’s a reason why you can buy a fake voter ID card on the streets of Phoenix for about $3, and it’s not because illegal aliens don’t illegally vote in the U.S.

Just because people like Dean can say what ever he wants where ever and to whom ever, does it make it right?

But bet ur azz the leftist media will pick up on this and run with it, cuz hey, it’s wot they do, use anything anyone says to disparage the right.

Ok, not unAmerican, just people who want to give aid and comfort to our enemies and let our troops die for political advantage (among others). The distinction is oh-so-important (sarc):

Dean: We’re coming to New Hampshire, and then South Carolina, and Florida, and then we’re coming to Crimea and Dnieper and Sochi!!!
YEEEAAARRRRGHHHHHH!

That blog reports statements by GOP politicians. The original comment (by ToddPA) referred to statements by GOP politicians, not blogs. Good try but no cigar.

After Rep. John Murtha (D-PA) said “the direction [in Iraq] has got be changed or it is unwinnable,” Rep. Michael Burgess (R-TX) said Democrats are “basically giving aid and comfort to the enemy.”

Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ) states that “Many on the Democratic side have revealed their exit strategy: surrender” and Rep. Geoff Davis (R-KY) says that “[T]he liberal leadership have put politics ahead of sound fiscal and national security policy. And what they have done is cooperated with our enemies and are emboldening our enemies.”

Rep. Don Young (R-AK) twice repeated a quotation falsely attributed to Abraham Lincoln on the House floor, which states that “Congressmen who willfully take action during wartime that damage morale and undermine the military are saboteurs, and should be arrested, exiled or hanged.”

GOP chairman Mike Duncan claims that Democrats want the US to lose in Iraq in an email to supporters, writing that “The Democrat leadership believes failure by our troops in Iraq… is essential for them to win elections in 2008,” that “Democrat leaders are hoping for our troops to fail so their party can gain a political advantage,” and that “The Democrats are hoping our troops fail in the War on Terror in the craven desire that it will boost their party’s electoral fortunes in 2008.”

During a town hall meeting, Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) calls Nancy Pelosi one of the “domestic enemies of the Constitution” shortly after saying that “[Second Amendment] gun rights are actually critical to prevent treason in America.”

No kidding, you have to see the difference on beef :)

I understand that the Wagyu served at the White House is the domestic stuff, by the way. Decided second-tier and relatively cheap.

Dean is saying Republicans AREN’T AMERICANS.

The R’s you reference are accusing Democrat politicians
of acts unbecoming of an AMERICAN who holds political office.

Are you Clinically Retarded??

This is exactly what I mean. The leftist media will nod in agreement and push the meme, the leftist politicians will nod in agreement and push the meme. No one in Republican leadership (whom, imho should be the ones knocking over everything in their path to denounce these lies) will say a word. They ALL make me sick.
