Obama fundraising off of Benghazi too?

posted at 8:41 am on May 20, 2014 by Ed Morrissey

The Society of Perpetual Outrageous Outrage’s most recent focus has fallen on anyone who mentions the Benghazi attack in a fundraising effort. The consensus determined that mentioning the attack that killed four Americans in the context of raising funds for political organizations was just unseemly, especially if Republicans who want answers on the entire arc of failure are doing the fundraising. That just proves, the SPOO argues, that the probe into Benghazi is just a political charade designed to boost the base.

By the same token, then, does fundraising off of Benghazi similarly discredit the administration’s motives in trying to shut down the investigation? Barack Obama spoke last night at a $10,000-a-plate DCCC fundraiser to urge donors to put Democrats back in charge — with an explicit plea to end the Benghazi probe Republicans have launched:

The price ranged from $10K to the soft-contribution limit of $32,4000:

Monday evening, President Obama had dinner with mega Democratic donors Jeff and Lora Drezner at their sprawling $5 million bungalow on five acres in Potomac, Md. The Drezners gave a combined $100,000 to candidates and political committees in the 2012 campaign cycle.

For the bargain price of $10,000 per person, or $32,400 per couple for VIP status, (that better be some spectacular filet) you could enjoy an “intimate dinner” with special guest Barack Obama, according to the invitation posted by the Sunlight Foundation.

This marked the fifth of Obama’s  six fundraisers for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee before the end of the quarter, according to a DCCC aide.

Actually, Obama was raising money off of ObamaCare, too. The former Senator expressed his exasperation over Congress exercising its oversight responsibilities in regard to executive branch incompetence and dishonesty:

Obama may regret his formulation that ObamaCare in particular doesn’t touch the “real concerns” of ordinary people. Premiums have spiked due to the mandates in ObamaCare, and the market disruption coming this fall as the employer mandate hits along with a new round of price hikes will almost certainly end up concerning the majority of Americans.

As for Benghazi not being “serious,” we will take that in due consideration of its source — who spent two weeks trying to convince everyone from the UN on down that it was nothing more than a spontaneous demonstration over a YouTube video that got out of hand. If we are to judge motives based on fundraising, then Obama’s attempt to hit up the Democratic Party’s richest donors to keep investigators off his back over Benghazi should go to the top of the SPOO agenda any time now.

I’ll just hold my breath over here until that happens.

Update: Actually, it’s Democratic donors who worry that Obama lacks seriousness:

Top Democratic donors say they are exasperated by a lack of leadership from the White House on policy and are questioning whether they should throw money into midterm elections they believe won’t change Washington.

In interviews with The Hill, the donors, who have been staunch Obama supporters since 2008, showed a frustration with the constant Beltway gridlock.

As some look to the promise of a 2016 presidential bid by Hillary Clinton, they express weariness with a White House that continually asks for money but has been unable to move anything in Washington since President Obama’s reelection.

“We’re already seeing that happen now when Democrats do have control of the Senate,” one donor said. “I think a lot of people think, ‘What’s really the point?’”

Or better yet, what difference at this point does it make?

Ironically, amnesty has a better chance of passing with the GOP controlling Congress than the Dems. Who would’ve predicted that back in 2009?

They are just whipping up the donor base for some extra dough. The Party of Evil and the Party of Stupid could as well merge at this point.

I should get an award or something, or a foot rub at least.

Vets being ignored and left to die while Dog Eater trots out to raise money for….uh….what exactly. The man is a jackass.

Imagine being a friend or family member of one of the victims and hearing this jackass repeatedly dismiss what happened in Benghazi. Of course, he jetted off to Vegas for fundraisers as it was happening, so perhaps they reconciled themselves with knowing he doesn’t give a damn about what happened over there long ago.

Obama asks “the debate now is about what? #Benghazi? Obamacare? It becomes this endless loop.”

The debate is about your rampant corruption, rank incompetence, and complete lack of accountability. And our side won the debate hands down, because your side had no defense — just a pack of blatant lies about a YouTube video, and about how extensive new government healthcare regulations would somehow magically reduce Americans’ healthcare costs.

What’s his message?

“I sat around helplessly as terrorists stormed our consulate on the anniversary of 9/11. Then my subordinates lied to the public in order to preserve my chances during the general election.”

Actually, it’s Democratic donors who worry that Obama lacks seriousness:

It took them this long to figure that out? A state senator with zero accomplishments, who only got elected because he used underhanded tactics to get his primary opponents thrown off the ballot, and then had to have the media get rid of his Republican opponent for the US Senate is a serious person?

If people struggle to find something nice to say about you “crease in his pants” “no Negro dialect” then you aren’t serious. How in heck did he get elected president. Twice.

I/we can bash the O all we want.

I am more disgusted with the absolute treasonous fools who cough up serious money to support the commie dems. WTF is wrong with them? I can’t imagine anyone who worked for his fortune just giving it away to a regime which WILL bite them in the azz as soon as possible!

It’s not speaking to the real concerns that people have.

um, the ‘people’ –not “folks”?–that can dole out at prices that “…ranged from $10K to the soft-contribution limit of $32,4000″, at least.

At this exclusive fund raiser, Obysmal claimed that Americans are “better off now than when he assumed office,” according to a piece in The Hill.

Look at the “beautiful people” were who attended this soiree:

Obama’s remarks came at a fundraiser for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee at the home of Jeffrey Drenzer, a medical training and technology executive. Tickets to the event, billed as an “intimate dinner,” ranged from $10,000 per person to $32,400 per couple.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), DCCC Chairman Steve Israel (D-N.Y.), and Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley (D) joined a sizable contingent of House Democrats at the event, including Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) and fellow Maryland Democrats Elijah Cummings, Chris Van Hollen, Donna Edwards, Dutch Ruppersberger, and John Delaney. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) was also in attendance.

Yes, Mr. President. It is an endless loop. Because you don’t know how to be an honest, uncorrupt operator.

The chutzpah, to mock the pointing out of his serial scandals.

I’ve said this before, the Obama Administration’s operating approach is like the 1970s Broad Street Bullies Philadelphia Flyers: Continually commit penalties with the full knowledge the refs can’t call them all.

The Dem party’s cronies all believe that somehow, when the economy crashes, they will be exempt
