CNN chief: You can’t shame us into covering this Benghazi investigation

posted at 4:01 pm on May 20, 2014 by Allahpundit

Via Mediaite, the man you’ll find here talking up integrity and hard-news priorities is the same guy who went so insane over the missing Malaysian jet that in early April CNN.com led — led — with the news that the jet had been photographed. Not photographed during its fateful flight in March; not photographed on the runway before the flight. Photographed years ago, at random times by random people, just as random objects are photographed all the time for random reasons. That was the top story on CNN’s website that day.

But don’t bother him about Benghazi.

“Climate change is one of those stories that deserves more attention, that we all talk about,” Zucker said, “but we haven’t figured out how to engage the audience in that story in a meaningful way. When we do do those stories, there does tend to be a tremendous amount of lack of interest on the audience’s part.”

And will it cover the special committee hearings by House Republicans to probe the 2012 Benghazi embassy attack? Zucker told Carter he didn’t know yet.

“We’re not going to be shamed into it by others who have political beliefs that want to try to have temper tantrums to shame other news organizations into covering something,” he said. “If it’s of real news value, we’ll cover it.”

Coincidentally, the president reminded the media last night at a fundraiser that the new Benghazi investigation, which has yet to hold a single hearing, is obviously unserious and clearly designed to make people more cynical about government. He said that at a moment when the lead story in most media outlets is wounded veterans dying because government-run health care at the VA is precisely the sort of corrupt mess with endless wait times that you’d expect government-run health care to be, Obama’s old promises to fix it notwithstanding. That’s what’s waiting for CNN to cover as an alternative to cynicism about government a la Benghazi.

Via the MRC, enjoy as the leaders of tomorrow demonstrate that, believe it or not, the public has not been oversaturated with Benghazi coverage. Too bad they weren’t tested on the Malaysian jet instead of Pharrell Williams; I’d be curious to know how solid their grasp of that topic is by contrast.

This Regime-supporting authoritarianism isn’t just on the part of those on the Left. The conservatives love the State as well, hence the shallow, unthinking support for the post-9/11 war in Afghanistan, which was wrong and based on lies, and for war on Iraq, also based on lies. For some reason, statists on both sides seem to see patriotism as supporting your government even when the government’s actions are wrong.

In my view, they need to grow up and try to think for themselves.

When the State’s critics make their criticisms known, for many people it is as though someone has criticized their mom or dad, it’s deeply personal and not only do the State’s defenders run to the State’s defense but they also tend to childishly run to slander the State’s critics.

But how do the news media continue to enjoy such good standing in the eyes of so many people? Why do so many of them act is sycophants for the State?

As an anti-intellectual intellectual, one can expect bribes to be offered — and it is amazing how easily some people can be corrupted: a few hundred dollars, a nice trip, a photo-op with the mighty and powerful are all too often sufficient to make people sell out.

But as far as why mainstream media outlets continue to lie and distort information, propagandize on behalf of corrupt politicians, banksters and military leaders, many such “journalists” probably do have a gullible and naive blind faith in their leaders despite the destruction such leaders have caused.

Or perhaps the scribblers and babblers really are fearful that what happened to James Risen, James Rosen, Audrey Hudson, and Michael Hastings, among others, may also happen to them. Who knows?

But in their devotion to the State, yes, sadly many amongst the “Fourth Estate” really are just another part of the Regime.

Perhaps, you clueless moron, it’s because climate change stories aren’t based on a viable scientific method or supported by the data / facts.

People are more interested in actual news and information, presented without an agenda involving carrying water for the progressive fascist ideology – and solving the real issues that concern them…

…like the economy, jobs, and the credibility / veracity of their government.

Perhaps if CNN made believe that the President was a Republican and not a Democrat, and reported accordingly, they would be able to get their ratings and credibility back to some semblance of viability.

How is the current Presidential administration fomenting and providing material support to Islamist insurrection in Egypt (which has since cast out the Brotherhood), Libya, and Syria, which led directly to murder of four State Department employees, who had asked for greater security assets, not news for the extent of President’s term(s)?

Why would anyone have to be “shamed” into reporting on inquiries this administration has done everything it could to quash or diminish?

“We’re not going to be shamed into it by others who have political beliefs that want to try to have temper tantrums to shame other news organizations into covering something,” he said. “If it’s of real news value, we’ll cover it.”

Uh huh, right. This is why you pander to the NSP aka, the democratic party. CNN among the others, are subjective in their coverage while claiming to be objective. The reason Fox gets slammed as a “right wing” cable channel is because they are more to the center than the rest of the main stream media.

CNN is on monitors in the area I usually eat lunch. Last week they endlessly talked about Donald Sterling even though there was nothing new about that story. Today they were talking about breathing strips for racehorses.

CNN wouldn’t know stories with real news value if the story came up and bit them in the rear. Keep in mind this was the network positing that the Malaysian Air flight was taken by a black hole.
