CA Gov. Brown: These early wildfires are pretty much due to climate change, you know

posted at 6:31 pm on May 18, 2014 by Erika Johnsen

Like every other self-aggrandizing environmentalist who isn’t partial to entertaining questions that could possibly challenge the green gospel, California Gov. Jerry Brown seized the opportunity to stress the all-consuming, catastrophic imminence of climate change on ABC’s This Week this morning:

It is true that there’s virtually no Republican who accepts the science that virtually is unanimous. I mean, there is no scientific question. There’s just political denial for various reasons, best known to those people who are in denial. … But, you know, we live in a world that is not just government or not just business. It’s natural, the natural systems. As we send billions and billions of tons of heat-trapping gases, we get heat and we get fires and we get what we’re seeing. So, we’ve got to gear up. We’re going to deal with nature as best we can, but humanity is on a collision course with nature and we’re just going to have to adapt to it in the best way we can.

Brown does mention one of the most ragingly responsible factors for California’s early fire season — a growing and spreading population, increased industrial and commercial activity, and straight-up arson — as well as the importance of carefully cultivating wildfire preparedness and adaptation. What he neglects to mention, as do most environmentalists, is the possibility that the environmentalist-sponsored policies that governed much of the arid West for decades created ideal conditions to dry out ecosystems. California has its own individual conditions to deal with, but as ever with the progressive set, the overwhelming cause must be climate change, about which, according to Brown, “there is no scientific question” because the science is “virtually unanimous” and Republicans are the only one who don’t absolutely accept it. …Oh, wait, check it out — I found a possible scientific question!

As firefighters struggle to contain the wind-fueled blazes, meteorologists and scientists say the fires could signal an especially active fire season for Southern California, fed by the wind, above-normal temperatures and tinder-dry vegetation.

But it’s not clear if the fires represent a new normal for expanded fire seasons, which typically start in summer, as it’s impossible to tie specific weather and fire events to climate change.

“What we’re seeing right now is just a real anomaly,” said Norman Miller, an expert in regional climate and hydrology at the University of California, Berkeley. “Whether it’s part of natural variability or climate change, we need to have a longer record of occurrences so we can construct a trend and make sense out of it.” …

Miller, for his part, has run computer models predicting that climate change could extend the traditionally October to November Santa Ana season, with increasing winds in December and January. But that still wouldn’t explain why they’ve come in May this year. …

“We’re fire prone almost every year,” he said. “It doesn’t mean we’re not linked to climate change. It’s just a more complex set of ecosystems.”

As a native Californian who happily departed to west Texas for good in 1992, I am shocked that Gov. Moonbeam sounds like a newcomer to the state. Wildfires have always been a fixture of California hazardous conditions during periods of Santa Ana weather.

It is true that property damage from the fires has been increasing over time, but this has nothing to do with changing climatic conditions. Heroic government attempts to suppress all grass fires allow the brush to build up, leading to especially volatile conditions when the vegetation to dry out. The feely-weely environmentalists love to build their houses in rough topography with considerable chaparral, having pleasant environments and great views while keeping others out. In terms of fire danger, they have no business building their houses there (they should not be able to get fire insurance before the fact or government assistance after the fires to bail them out), and they compound their risks by not clearing the vegetation from around their homes. (This would ruin the natural environment.) I have absolutely no sympathy for most of the “victims” of bad and selfish decisions.

Gov. Moonbeam is actually pretty smart and I think he knows better. It is politically profitable, however, to blame the Republicans than his own “environmentalist” constituents.

Of course there have, but climate Marxists have divided history into pre-climate change and post-climate change. Any hurricanes, tornados, floods, droughts, wild fires, sunshine, rain, snow, ice, cold after Hansen said we’re all doomed 30 years ago is the result of climate change. All events prior are natural. People don’t realize climate change hit us in less then 24 hours.

Southern California wildfires http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/blog/archives/15704
================

With an ongoing extreme to exceptional drought, hot temperatures (daily high temperatures along the coastal areas as high as 106º F at John Wayne Airport) combined with strong offshore Santa Ana winds (gusting as high as 87 mph at Big Black Mountain) conspired to create an environment favorable for wildfires across southern California and northern Baja California on 14 May 2014. McIDAS images of GOES-15 0.63 µm visible channel data (above; click image to play animation) showed a number of smoke plumes streaming off the coast during the day. Note the brief appearance of a cluster of bright white pixels on the 18:00 UTC image, just north of the California/Baja California border — this a signal of sunlight being reflected off of large solar panel arrays in that area.

The side-by-side comparison of GOES-15 (GOES-West) and GOES-13 (GOES-East) 0.63 µm visible channel images (below) showed that with a lowering sun angle at the end of the day, the smoke plumes began to become more difficult to identify on GOES-15 images (left); on the other hand, thanks to the benefit of a favorable forward scattering angle, the areal coverage of the smoke plumes stood out very well on GOES-13 images (right). The enhancements are the same on both sets of images.

A 375-meter resolution Suomi NPP VIIRS true-color Red/Green/Blue (RGB) image visualized using the SSEC RealEarth web map server (below) showed these smoke plumes with great clarity at 20:25 UTC or 1:25 PM local time.

U.S. helping Central American farmers fight coffee fungus

WASHINGTON >> The U.S. government is stepping up efforts to help Central American farmers fight a devastating coffee disease — and hold down the price of your morning cup. At issue is a fungus called coffee rust that has caused more than $1 billion in damage across Latin American region. The fungus is especially deadly to Arabica coffee, the bean that makes up most high-end, specialty coffees. Already, it is affecting the price of some of those coffees in the United States. “We are concerned because we know coffee rust is already causing massive amounts of devastation,” said Raj Shah, head of the U.S. Agency for…more »

(Reuters) – Lockheed Martin Corp has begun final assembly of a new U.S. weather satellite that will allow the U.S. government to provide far earlier warnings about potentially deadly tornadoes and solar flares when it is launched in early 2016.

Lockheed this week powered on a key part of the satellite for the first time in a special “clean room” at a sprawling facility south of Denver, where engineers are assembling the satellite and testing components before the whole spacecraft moves to environmental and thermal vacuum testing in July.

The company won a $1.09 billion contract in 2009 to build two 30-foot, 14,000-pound Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite R-Series (GOES-R) satellites for NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which have since exercised options for two additional satellites.

The first of the new satellites is on track for delivery to the government by October 2015, followed by launch into geosynchronous orbit about 35,000 km (22,300 mi) above the Earth in early 2016, Steve Jolly, chief engineer for the GOES-R program, told Reuters during the first media tour of the cavernous “high-bay” room where the satellite is being built.

To minimize any debris, visitors and workers wear special coveralls, head bonnets and slippers over their shoes, while fans blow air down through the room to reduce the possibility that even a stray bit of dust could harm the performance of the sophisticated cameras on board once they get out to space.

The GEOS-R satellites are being assembled at a Lockheed facility tucked away in a canyon south of Denver where the company built the nation’s first intercontinental ballistic missile in 1955, and continues to work on a range of other military and intelligence satellites today.

I love how it was global warming and that was made a punchline so then it became climate change after that. Whats next human caused worldwide temperature fluctuations? Gotta keep renaming a failed ideology in hopes of fooling us dupes.

Well I guess technically the arsonist could have been driven by ‘Global Warming’ to intentionally set those fires.

Yeah right, who am I f’in kidding.

Progressives with no scientific background are experts on earth and planetary forces. Inordinate pride is in full display.

Yep, it’s settled science, there is a clear link between arson and climate change. Who knew?

Yup, the more enviro whackos think that these fires help their cause, the more the enviro whackos will set.
They need to scare people into giving up their rights. Sadly, way too many people are easily scared into giving up my rights without my consent.

Anything that stands in the way of the “liberal aganda” causes global warming, and/or is racist.

( repeat, till the end of time )

Note the brief appearance of a cluster of bright white pixels on the 18:00 UTC image,

just north of the California/Baja California border —

this a signal of sunlight being reflected off of large solar panel arrays

in that area.

Ahems,…wouldn’t it be a hoot (kidding on the hoot), that Solar
Panels,..in some bizarre fashion are causing Forest Fires, kinda
like taking a magnifying glass type of affect/effect!!

Seems to me there have already been some complaints from aircraft pilots, along similar lines, that the reflection can be downright “blinding.”

Maybe we should sacrifice our children to the Anthropogenic Gases. But that is the point, isn’t it?

Anthropogenic gases are shown to have a provenance related to prominent liberal speachifiers whose flatulence is from all observed orifices.
