Report: Karl Rove suggests Hillary fall might have caused brain injury

posted at 10:01 pm on May 12, 2014 by Mary Katharine Ham

This is just breaking, so I thought I’d serve it up for y’all:

Onstage with Robert Gibbs and CBS correspondent and “Spies Against Armageddon” co-author Dan Raviv, Rove said Republicans should keep the Benghazi issue alive.

He said if Clinton runs for president, voters must be told what happened when she suffered a fall in December 2012.

The official diagnosis was a blood clot. Rove told the conference near LA Thursday, “Thirty days in the hospital? And when she reappears, she’s wearing glasses that are only for people who have traumatic brain injury? We need to know what’s up with that.”

I know everyone’s going to be in a tizzy of righteous indignation over this, and Rove sounds rather blunter about it than I’d be. But the fall was serious, her disappearance lengthy, and information about her condition not exactly readily available. There would be questions about it just as there were always questions about McCain’s health, right? I suppose those questions are seen as unseemly, but I’m not sure they’re out of bounds.

If she does have a brain injury, I’d be more likely to vote for her.

Blunter about it than you’d be? Why are you so passive sounding about this?
Sometimes you are tougher on conservative commenters at this site than you are on Democrats. Why is that?

Damn it, we have a right to demand that Hillary come clean about her health problems. What is she hiding? I want to see all of her medical records.

“Everyone”?

Mary Katharine, why do you often seem so concerned about what media liberals will think or how they will respond?

I don’t see anywhere that Clinton was hospitalized for thirty days, as oppposed to the three cited in the linked article.

Sounds like a stroke to me. Nothing to be ashamed of. She needs to be honest about what happened if she intends to run.

forest on May 13, 2014 at 6:28 AM

I can think of several likely possibilities:

1. It’s true, and Hillary is trying to keep it a secret for the time being because she loves the attention and she has a book coming out.

2. It’s a bunch of cr@p made up by one of the original ratf**kers, Karl “Turdblossom” Rove, to undermine Hillary’s 2016 run.

3. It’s a false flag operation by those devious Clintons, intended to discredit the GOP and gain sympathy for Hillary.

4. It’s a ratf**king operation by a Democrat who wants to eliminate Hillary as the 2016 front-runner. (Cough, cough, Joe Biden.)

This.
The moment the left takes responsibility for the comments of the Senate Majority Leader, we will think about apologizing for the comments of a moderate Republican who has never held elected office. Even then, one cannot say that Rove speaks for even a majority of Republicans or conservatives.

My personal view? Rove is not a doctor. Rove doesn’t even do his own job well anymore (winning elections). I think I will take a pass on this for now.

DisneyFan on May 13, 2014 at 7:53 AM

First of all, politics aside, I hope she has recovered. We may disagree on issues and policies, vehemently, but a persons health and well-being is another matter.

Notwithstanding that, the health of a candidate is an important factor. If Mrs. Clinton is not able to perform the arduous job of president, or this somehow impairs her judgment, the public has a right to know. She should spend the rest of her days enjoying life, not chasing political office.

I suspect she will somehow make light of this. But it is not a laughing matter. Nor should it be ignored as such.

Marcus Traianus on May 13, 2014 at 8:12 AM

I think the fall was a charade calculated to take the heat off Hillary and perhaps garner her some sympathy from otherwise hostile critics. My guess is her ‘injury’ will have completely healed prior to 2016…

zoyclem on May 13, 2014 at 8:13 AM

The clot is in the transverse sinus, a large vein that goes around the inner wall of the skull at the back of the head. Her clot is on the right side; there is a similar sinus on the left.

The condition can cause permanent brain damage, coma or death if not detected and treated in time. In Clinton’s case, however, it appears to have caused few if any symptoms and to be responding to treatment with blood-thinning drugs.

Almost three weeks ago, Clinton, who is 65, reportedly became severely dehydrated with an intestinal infection. She fainted, fell and hit her head, suffering a concussion. Whether those events are related to the blood clot is unknown, with experts offering divergent opinions.

Cerebral venous thrombosis — the general term for Clinton’s condition — is rare. It occurs in about four out of every million adults per year. It is somewhat more common in children. Head trauma, pregnancy, cancer, brain infection, autoimmune diseases and inborn clotting abnormalities are all predisposing factors. Some experts believe severe dehydration may be as well.

Clinton has had at least one previous blood clot, in her right leg in 1998. She was treated with blood-thinning drugs for several months. In her memoir she attributed the clot to “my nonstop flying around the country.” Airplane flights lasting longer than six hours appear to be a slight risk factor for developing leg clots, known as deep venous thromboses (DVTs).

From Health and Science in 2012

You should check out the article. It’s real what Hillary has: a predisposition to clot and it can be very compromising and deadly…particularly in the brain if their is a venous clot that grows undetected / unexpected so that there is diminished venous return to the heart from the brain. The brain may swell to herniate wherever it can and kill you. That’s why the docs were so carefully monitoring her for at least a month and probably still are. Don’t know if she’s on blood thinners but she may be….with that million miles around the world, most of it on airplanes, she probably was at least until she retired from State in 2012.

She must have been symptomatic head/brainwise…and the docs who identified her cerebral venous thrombosis were looking for it and they found it…good work. It could have killed her had it gone undetected.

gracie on May 13, 2014 at 8:37 AM

This idea of Rove’s just might get the big money people thinking about another candidate to back. All is fair in politics and Rove knows it. This could end up drying up the money flow and is akin to dirty Harry claiming that Romney didn’t pay any taxes.

A while back I had a concussion and as a result lost consciousness. I had to jump through hoops – battery of tests, two doctor’s clearances just to get my driver’s license renewed (like a dummy I answered the question “Have you lost consciousness in the past year?” honestly).

Seems like someone who possibly sustained a recent brain injury, and is running for president, should have to at least clear that bar – and be willing to share the information with the voters.

MisterElephant on May 13, 2014 at 9:16 AM

Good move.

Rove was just trying to make Hilary’s health an issue. Force her to release her medical records. Make age an issue without actually saying she is old.

Not often, but every once in a great while, Rove hits a home run.

The only way she can prove she doesn’t have a brain injury is to release her medical records.

huckleberryfriend on May 13, 2014 at 9:29 AM

The Left will hide Hillary’s medical records like they have hidden every record for BHO; “…..nothing to see, just move along”.

Tater Salad on May 13, 2014 at 9:34 AM

Tokyo Rove is a Machiavellian poor excuse for a human being. He was BORN with severe brain damage. He particularly suffers from a “Mommy Complex.” He is a cancer that needs to be cut out of the GOP at the root.
There are many reasons not to want Hillary Clinton as POTUS starting with she lacks the qualifications. Being Bill Clinton’s dishrag was no enhancement to her resume.
That Tokyo Rove would allow his misogyny to rear its ugly head is a total disgrace and gives credence to the Left’s claim of the GOP’s war on women. The Bush Mafia needs to be sent to the ash heap of history. Bush politics has contributed to the decline in America just as much as the politics of the Left. And the ugly, revolting, parasitic face of their pathetic architect Tokyo Rove will forever serve as the symbol of “the corrupt Age of Bush” plunder.

The mere sight of E.V.I.L. Tokyo Rove makes my flesh crawl.

Fat, bloated, corrupt Jeb Bush appears to be just as much in poor health and his utterance of “an act of love” sounds just as demented as anything Hillary has said of late.

If Karl Rove wasn’t a liberal, he would understand that liberalism is a mental disease.

savage24 on May 13, 2014 at 9:55 AM

Cross-posted at Politico:

It’s common knowledge that most liberal democrats have some form of brain damage. While it rarely is caused by a severe physical trauma, the liberal ideology that the masses are oppressed, (and the only remedy is a Democrat in Washington), is the standard narrative for those who find it difficult to think for themselves—a cerebral dependency liberal politicians have banked on for decades. Walking, talking, thinking lockstep with this single ideology doesn’t necessarily promote independent thought or individual enlightenment, but Democrats could certainly find it, (independent thinking), as a liability rather than an asset to their intended purpose. Without the powerful tools of the liberal media, (and the culture of perpetual dependency), this “illness” would not be so wide-spread. However, indications that Hillary Clinton may have suffered brain damage is highly doubtful. She was in complete control of her faculties when she blamed the death of four Americans on a video, and her brain-challenged followers swallowed it, hook, line, and thinker. ~ Rovin

Rovin on May 13, 2014 at 10:01 AM

sounds like u got something that should be checked out.

Fact is Hillary has a predisposition to abnormally clot and has proven it twice. That’s a health issue man or woman. Period.

And while we are at it her boobs need to be lit up on MRI for the radiologists to look for cancer and biopsy it. She’s a woman which predisposes her to breast cancer and a 1 out of 8 chance in her lifetime for getting it. That means relatively likely and although at this age she would probably survive it if it hasn’t metastasized, therapy can be disabling for long periods of time.

Don’t pull this war on women bull. Clots and cancer kills us and if our to-be-President has either one we need to know before we crown her.

My sister had a traumatic brain injury a few years ago. At age 44, she now has the mind of a 10 year old child. I know there are all levels of brain injury, but if Hillary did have some major brain trauma, we would surely be able to see that she’s definitely NOT that much different from what she was before the fall. Besides, those glasses are not only worn by people with brain injuries. Come on! They are prismatic. I have prisms in my glasses so my eyes will focus the same and to my knowledge, I haven’t had a fall lately. :-)

gracie on May 13, 2014 at 9:13 AM

The treatment for repeat thrombosis – especially something as potentially lethal as a central veinous thrombosis – is lifelong treatment with heavy-duty blood thinners.

Of course, if you have another “fall” while on anticoagulation it is possible to end up with an intercerebral bleed. High risk treatments for high risk conditions.

If this incident was as described to us publically, and was not just made up to try to delay her testimony in the Benghazi hearings (this is a member of the Clinton family that we are dealing with here) then Ms Hillary has some very significant health issues. Should pursue a presidential candidacy, she will have to come clean about how severe her health problems are.

I have noticed that Hillary’s fans always seem much more enthusiastic about her candidacy than Hillary herself. I think that this is because she knows something that her supporters do not – such as a pretty significant health problem.

Eat, they crunch.

Their fangs, dance,
Tumble in the

Musty, wet pelts
Glistening in the blue.
