Germany’s version of The Daily Show lampoons their failed green-energy transition

posted at 7:01 pm on May 10, 2014 by Erika Johnsen

Via James Delingpole at Breitbart and the folks at the American Interest, this is a few weeks old by now but certainly worth a [joyless] chuckle or two. A few years ago, Germany decided to phase themselves off of nuclear energy while transitioning to a more wind-and-solar-centric energy grid — a so-called Energiewende that was supposed to set a pioneering green example for the rest of the world. Germans have now invested quite a bit of money into that endeavor through subsidies and state-mandated scheming, but all they have to show for it is an increased reliance on coal and higher energy prices hindering their economic opportunities. The jokes practically write themselves (language warning):

When you think comedy….. Think Germany.

ThePrez on May 10, 2014 at 7:14 PM

What a great send up! The Climate Alarmists are indeed a cult (if not a perverted religion).

onlineanalyst on May 10, 2014 at 7:17 PM

Who says the Germans have no sense of humour? That is pretty funny and, like all good humour, based on truth.

Blaise on May 10, 2014 at 7:21 PM

I didn’t think Germans had a sense of humor. That’s hysterical. It’s exactly the way these people think. I like where she says that thinking for yourself just gives you headaches.

crankyoldlady on May 10, 2014 at 7:37 PM

OK that was funny! And the glasses chick is hot in a Teutonic sort of way.

Johnnyreb on May 10, 2014 at 7:39 PM

A golden opportunity for ‘Schadenfreude’ to comment “schadenfreude”, or something. /

Who possibly could have seen this coming? You can’t make this stuff up.

Infidelius on May 10, 2014 at 7:39 PM

You can’t make this stuff up.

Infidelius on May 10, 2014 at 7:39 PM

Yes you can. They did.

crankyoldlady on May 10, 2014 at 7:40 PM

That was amazing. Just fantastic. Please more.

How lost are we that Germany is leading the way?

They had to shut down their nuclear power plants, they were afraid of tsunamis!

You’re right, you can’t make this stuff up, they had to imitate the Obama Faithful for this.

oscarwilde on May 10, 2014 at 7:55 PM

American leftists won’t get this. They will blame it on, being in German.

Germany’s version of The Daily Show lampoons their failed green-energy transition

…I don’t watch our “comedians” anymore…they’ve just become part of the politburo…and these guys just confirmed it for me.

Blaise on May 10, 2014 at 7:21 PM

Yeah, well… Joel Grey’s “Willkommen” was pretty funny in Cabaret, too. But it still didn’t end well.

bofh on May 10, 2014 at 8:35 PM

I knew it was satire, and it was still so spot-on of the mindset of our “deep-eco gurus” and their progressive co-habitors that I wanted to…do something to those yutzes that if I mentioned it here, I’d get banned for sure.

(Even allowing for Tina being seriously cute.)

GroKo (German contraction for “Grand Coalition”) rhymes with “VoPo“.

Similar mentality- just with a lower IQ.

Excellent… bet no libtard will comment. I’m fine with us being more like Germany, Belgium and Sweden vis a vis rop immigration and energy in th8s direction.

AH_C on May 10, 2014 at 9:08 PM

Devastating and spot-on.

And the most interesting thing is that the audience doesn’t find it very funny…as they are true believers.

No need to worry about losing Poland. Russia’s keeping an eye on it.

If they are like our media, they will stop the criticism when the “conservative” (Merkal) is replaced by a real lefty.

mockmook on May 10, 2014 at 9:39 PM

As someone born and raised in Germany, this is hysterical.

And yes, the audience didn’t “get” it. Probably a combination of ideology and fear of reprisal. I envision the nervous laughter of some when the emperor is declared to be naked by a child.

CT96 on May 10, 2014 at 11:45 PM

The send-up of American TV evangelists was hysterical – but I’m not sure the audience entirely understood the reference.

Restrict the Autobahn to horse drawn vehicles.

Everyone is seeing it. The climate alarmist movement is now officially a cult.

Like Bailey Quarters on WKRP in Cincinnati

Even the Euro-socialists are backing off from the Church of Voodoo Climatology, while our ideological zealot in chief doubles down.

I wish the American version of The Daily Show did this.

Fantastic. I think I just found a new YouTube channel to follow.

LastRick on May 11, 2014 at 9:21 AM

This is funnier that anything I’ve seen in Jon Stewart show…it shows the potential gold mine of good comedy on the left if he wasn’t so biased… by the way, before I have to google it.. What’s Groko..?

The symbol of the Divine Wind. LOL

Particularly in that “Divine Wind” is a euphemism for “fart”.

ss396 on May 11, 2014 at 12:21 PM

For the full bloom of their satire they felt a need to switch to English, American English specifically, American religious hymnals. American-style religion is being made fun of along with climate-religionists. Oddly the best part.

It was not funny to me. The second guy too obviously smarmy to be funny. It is written across his whole visage. The whole ‘I’m doing satire here’, while doing satire is flatly not funny. Too self-aware. They fail to lose themselves in their satire. They know they’re not being serious and it shows throughout. Satire relies on complete emersion into the ridiculous giving no clue as to one’s own bathos that we all sink into. Brits do this well. Americans, and Germans do not. It is every bit as bad, worse actually, that what is seen on the utterly unwatchable Jon Stewart.

Fail.

Colossal fail.

And if you disagree with me, then you are an idiot with a child’s sense of humor.

bour3 on May 11, 2014 at 4:01 PM

I’m working in China. Americans use satire ALL THE TIME and we’re quite good at it (yes the British are better). NOBODY here in China understands when I’m using satire. They always take me seriously. I’ve gone to announcing beforehand when I’m about to embark on a satirical caprice just so they’ll know it’s a joke. Otherwise they take the most absurd ridiculous statements seriously.

The content is good but the German language is only good for military marches and porn.
