SMOR poll: Mary Landrieu hits a career low in Louisiana with only 39 percent approval

posted at 8:01 pm on May 8, 2014 by Erika Johnsen

Sen. Mary Landrieu has been doin’ work over the past couple of weeks to portray herself as pretty much the One True Champion of the Keystone XL pipeline; it goes without saying that her fellow Democrats who remain opposed are feckless Obama rubber-stampers on the matter (not like her, you see — she’s willing to personally take the president to task), while Republicans, she contends, are merely out to exploit the pipeline’s popularity as an election issue through which they can rage about Obama’s anti-jobs agenda clear through November. I’m sure Landrieu wouldn’t know anything about that kind of attitude, ahem — but whatever the case, consider the latest polling from Southern Media & Opinion Research. Ouch:

landrieu-slide-smor-poll

Senator Landrieu’s job performance rating continues to deteriorate. Her positive ratings have dropped to an all-time low of 39% in this current poll. Her negative ratings have increased by 30 percentage points in a little over a year and a half (from 28% in September 2012 to 58% in this current poll). …

While the intensity of likely Louisiana voters giving Senator Landrieu a rating of “excellent” has varied little since September 2012 (12% in 2012 and 15% in the current poll), the intensity of those voters rating her job performance as “poor” has tripled (from 13% in 2012 to 39% in the current poll). …

Senator Mary Landrieu draws 36% (down from 41% last fall) of the vote in a four-way trial heat with Republican challengers Bill Cassidy, Paul Hollis and Rob Maness who collectively draw 46% (35% Cassidy, 4% Hollis and 7% Maness) of the vote; of the remaining, 17% are undecided and 1% refused to say.

From WaPo today:

In Louisiana, Mary Landrieu has made a strong moral and economic case for the Medicaid expansion, claiming Obamacare’s benefits are “worth fighting for” and that her Republican foe’s repeal stance will put him at a “distinct disadvantage.”

But with the magic Landrieu name and the magic “D” next to it, on Election Day she’ll still win.

It takes a complete outlier to win as a Republican in Louisiana, such as Bobby Jindal. Rather the way Democrats keep coming up with winning Presidential candidates out of nowhere.

Landrieu’s pirouettes on Keystone, energy in general, and The One’s policies will be forgotten by November. All that will matter will be that magic name and that magic letter.

She’s lost this election, bless her heart.

MTF on May 8, 2014 at 8:23 PM

Louisiana doesn’t have primaries per se. It would be great if she didn’t garner enough of the vote to even be on the ballot in November as one of the top two finishers.

Time for her to crank out another fake ad showing her taking Dems to task for delaying energy issues. BTW, the unions are up in arms with Mitch Landrieu’s new contract with NOLA city workers. Not a good voter bloc to have angry going into the mid-terms.

Never say that. Dems just need to figure out how many boxes of votes were uncounted in some poll worker’s trunk.

More likely because it’s a lousy show. HGTV used to be a nice channel with decorating, gardening, crafts and home improvements. Now it’s all real estate speculation and competitions. You can’t have show on there unless it’s about who gets done first or beats a deadline.

crankyoldlady on May 8, 2014 at 8:26 PM

Please, Louisiana, send this woman packing in November. Don’t know who her R opponent will be, but anyone will be an improvement.

The show is set to debut later this fall, we have no idea if it is/was a lousy show. In fact it was ordered until the gay mafia got involved. Quite simple. HGTV even admits as much.

No. With all due respect COL, HGTV has a large gay audience. This was pandering to the gays. Gays are such special snowflakes that they refuse to deal those who do not support their lifestyle choice.

I didn’t say it didn’t have a gay audience. I know they like to connect their shows with Ellen. They are still all about real estate.

crankyoldlady on May 8, 2014 at 9:11 PM

She should enjoy her 39% in May. It only goes down from there when people begin to tune in around September for the election hype.

HGTV is a “lifestyle” channel. Home porn in the same way that sister channel The Food Network is food porn.

The gays ended this future show based on ideology and not on what was actually going to be presented on air. That’s just wrong if you believe in the First Amendment.

viking01 on May 8, 2014 at 9:31 PM

Be fair, Daddy Moon made his name as the mayor of New Orleans that did much for racial equality. The promonade along the Mississippi in New Orleans isn’t called the “Moon Walk” in honor of NASA. His worthless brats have obtained offices in Louisiana based on his “reaching out” to blacks at a time when it was politically expedient to be less racist.

Sorry about not putting in “state” ,,,,sometimes I forget to do that. I am from the Red side of the state and its larger in area but a lot smaller in population. Sometimes it seems like we are part of Idaho. One time a friend of mine who had a friend who worked for a demo senator in North Dakota in the late 90′s said that Murray was the most stupid senator of the senate and I believe to this day she still is.

garydt on May 8, 2014 at 10:27 PM

The only previous time in her career she was “underwater” in in-state approval was around the time of “the Louisiana purchase” where she sold her vote for ObamaCare. Pound that home, and demand to know where she has been for the first several years of Keystone.

Louisiana and Arkansas have been the last of the old South states to “get Republican” in their congressional elections, but they are coming around.
