Obama biographer: “The world seems to disappoint him”

posted at 11:21 am on May 6, 2014 by Allahpundit

Via the Weekly Standard, a classic summation of foreign policy Hopenchange-style, right up there with “leading from behind.” This attitude, that Obama is perpetually the only adult in the room of whatever room he’s in, has been part of his presidential DNA since the day he was sworn in. Remember this line from his first inaugural?

On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord. On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn-out dogmas that for far too long have strangled our politics. We remain a young nation. But in the words of Scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things.

The adults were in charge now. That’s been his approach to the GOP ever since, his speeches adorned with endless straw men and false choices designed to portray his critics — including his critics on the left, occasionally — as pie-eyed ideologues forever trying to drag him from the responsible, adult path. It’s annoying, but you can chalk that up to partisan politics if you like. What’s harder to explain is O taking the “adult in the room” attitude with other heads of state. Sometimes it’s an undertone, like when he and Kerry whine that Russia’s aggression towards Ukraine isn’t the way nations behave in the 21st century. The international order is more adult now, the argument implies; first-world countries settle their problems with “dialogue,” not with bombs and guns. Sometimes, though, it’s a bit more than an undertone:

I don’t have a bad personal relationship with Putin. When we have conversations, they’re candid, they’re blunt, oftentimes they’re constructive. I know the press likes to focus on body language and he’s got that kind of slouch, looking like the bored kid in the back of the classroom.

That remark, from last August, reportedly didn’t go over well in the Kremlin and it’s been all downhill ever since. So why does O say stuff like that? Maybe the simplest explanation is the correct one: He’s bought into his own B.S. and now his ego really is that big. Or maybe there’s a strategic element to the “adult in the room” approach. Maybe, by positioning himself and the U.S. as above the fray abroad, it makes non-intervention a bit more salable to voters. The public may be war weary but they also don’t like to think that America’s showing weakness towards aggressors; the “above the fray” view, in which we’re endlessly “disappointed” in how other nations behave, allows us to save some face while refusing to act. We don’t need to dirty our hands by playing in the sewer with these kids. What adult would want to?

This piece from Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy seems oddly appropriate:

The Total Perspective Vortex (henceforth ‘the TPV’) is a device built as a practical application of the theory of atomic interactivity. The idea is that if every atom of the universe is affected by every other atom of the universe, then it is theoretically possible to extrapolate a model of the entire universe using a single piece of matter as a starting point. The TPV does this using a piece of fairy cake as its extrapolatory base.

Originally created by its inventor Trin Tragula as a way to get back at his wife (who always told him to get a “sense of proportion”), the TPV is now used as a torture and (in effect) killing device on the planet Frogstar. The prospective victim of the TPV is placed within a small chamber wherein is displayed a model of the entire universe – together with a microscopic dot bearing the legend “you are here”. The sense of perspective thereby conveyed destroys the victim’s mind.

The only person to survive the TPV is former President of the Galaxy U.S. Zaphod Beeblebrox Barry Obama. At the time he was exposed to the TPV, he was inside a computer-generated universe created for his protection by Zarniwoop Valerie Jarrett. Since the entire universe was created for him, the TPV told him, in effect, that he was in fact the single most important person in the universe. This allowed Zaphod Barry to survive the experience, and also did not surprise him in the least.

OT…but related……Plan B cause eventually the moon bat overlords need to look past Obama…

“George Soros and far left billionaires formed a new alliance recently to hijack the 2014 election. The Republican Party is at its strongest point in two decades heading into midterm elections.
The Washington Post reported, via Frontpage:

A group of wealthy liberal donors who helped bankroll the Center for American Progress and other major advocacy groups on the left is developing a new big-money strategy that could boost state-level Democratic candidates and mobilize core party voters.

The plan, being crafted in private by a group of about 100 donors that includes billionaire hedge fund manager George Soros and San Francisco venture capitalist Rob McKay, seeks to give Democrats a stronger hand in the redrawing of district lines for state legislatures and the U.S. House.

The effort reflects a sense among many top donors on the left that Democrats missed opportunities in 2010 to shape the redistricting process and contain the tea party wave that helped propel Republican victories around the country.

Discussions about the new plan began last week in Chicago at a four-day conference of the Democracy Alliance, the invitation-only donor group founded in 2005 to build the kind of network of think tanks and activist groups that has long flourished on the right.

While maintaining a low public profile, the alliance plays an influential role as the left’s central money hub, attracting political donors interested in more than simply making campaign contributions. Last week’s meeting at the Ritz-Carlton in Chicago drewan array of Democratic powerbrokers eager to influence the donors’ thinking, including White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka and Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards….”

When people grow up as the coddled protege of ideologues, this is what you get. A person with an overinflated sense of their capabilities, detached from reality, ignorant of history, unable to blame themselves for their obvious failures and lashing out at everyone who does not agree with their utopian worldview.

Mr. Obama is a sad little man who has been pushed by his contemporaries into positions he is not capable of performing. He is their empty vessel through which they tinker and attempt to force ideological change. He does not perform well in a democracy because his impulses are autocratic. Ah, yes. If only this were his country and planet it would be a much better place.

If it were not for the dishonest media, Mr. Obama would be unable to perpetrate this fraud upon our country. I blame them most for our loss of freedom and the path of destruction since 2008.

Of course a narcissist who believes the whole world is about and revolves around them is disappointed by anyone and anything that is not about ‘him’, ‘his’ personal agenda, and ‘his’ personal desires.

easyt65 on May 6, 2014 at 11:53 AM

So true. All human beings have the tendency to be self-centered, but narcissists are genuinely self-absorbed to the point that they comprehend very little outside their own worldview.

And may God help you if you ever put them in a position of authority, because if things do NOT go their way, the natural degree of vengeance that is associated with their narcissistic traits will take shape and form in a misuse and abuse of authority as they try to realign what they perceive as the ungrateful misbehavior of others with their self-absorbed worldview.

abnormal_1 on May 6, 2014 at 12:12 PM

Those who are unable, emotionally, to grasp human nature due to their own narcissism are “disappointed” by those around them because those around them are always perceived as inferiors. Worse, those blinded by narcissism are never able to relate their failures to their own intellectual and emotional shortcomings, so, there must always be villains in league against them.

In a movie from the 1980′s entitled “the Stepfather,” a sociopathic killer would take on new identities, marry a widow with children, and at some point snap and kill them all. He then disappeared for a while, assumed a new identity, and started over. In one of the relationships, his previous work made the news, and his current wife asked him what he thought would drive someone to do something like that. He replied:

“Maybe they disappointed him.”

Steve Z on May 6, 2014 at 12:30 PM

He’s bought into his own B.S. and now his ego really is that big.

Gee, ya think? People have been blowing happy dust up his butt his whole life. His latest inflator Valerie Jarrett famously said of him:

“I think Barack knew that he had God-given talents that were extraordinary. He knows exactly how smart he is. … He knows how perceptive he is. He knows what a good reader of people he is. And he knows that he has the ability — the extraordinary, uncanny ability — to take a thousand different perspectives, digest them and make sense out of them, and I think that he has never really been challenged intellectually. … So what I sensed in him was not just a restless spirit but somebody with such extraordinary talents that had to be really taxed in order for him to be happy. … He’s been bored to death his whole life. He’s just too talented to do what ordinary people do.”

Yes he actually believes this horseshit. He actually believed that he would solve all the world’s problems by going on an apology tour and diminishing America’s power and influence in the world. (Simultaneously increasing his own power and infuence, but that would be merely coincidental and entirely earned.)

When reality doesn’t meet his expectations, he is “disappointed” with reality. The possibility that he is wrong about the world and his role in it never occurs to him, and never will.

Disappointment is common among adolescents. They get through childhood by the skin of their teeth and arrive at the gates of adulthood certain that they know how to do it right, and prepared to show their ignoramus elders what’s what.

-then the real world hits them square in the teeth, and they begin to REALLY grow up. This last, all-important step is one Obama was never able to manage…

Obama is a narcissist and clearly one that is a psychotic Narcissist.

Narcissist can never see themselves as wrong because they see themselves as the only one that understands what needs to be done, or should have been done, if not for those that keep him from getting it done.

Narcissist will always blame someone else, and they are usually successful at convincing others that someone else is responsible for the mess they caused.

Narcissist will position themselves to take the credit when things go right, but also are careful to be able to deny any responsibility or association for things that go wrong. They position themselves as close to people who are beneficial to their self-image, but quickly distance themselves from people that damage their image. If they find themselves threatened, are harmed, they will do whatever is needed to punish or destroy the threat or those that did or they think, harmed them.

With a narcissist it is all about them, and others are just to make things possible for them to become more successful. With a psychotic narcissist, it is all about themselves and they are the only one that understands what needs to be done. They confide only in those that agree with them, and those who stand in their way are of no importance and do not matter.

“ I have a phone and a pen. “ This is Obama saying that Congress is of no importance to him and will not matter if they do not give him what he wants. The pen is for us, the phone is for the world. Neither of us matter if we do not see his greatness.

“the feeling is mutual.” – the world

smallwaukee on May 6, 2014 at 4:02 PM

When reality doesn’t meet his expectations, he is “disappointed” with reality. The possibility that he is wrong about the world and his role in it never occurs to him, and never will.

novaculus on May 6, 2014 at 12:31 PM

That’s one of the pervasive problem that people with different forms of mental diseases/disorders and/or addictions have.

Poor whiny little baby. It’s time for him to take his ball and go home….if Moochelle will let him have it back that is.

I’m not sure that Obama actually has any balls to take home with him. His behavior argues that he in fact does not. (my bad)

narcissist: (n) A psychological condition characterized by self-preoccupation, lack of empathy, and unconscious deficits in self-esteem.

Sukk it, Barry.

how severly narcissistic does one have to be to believe the world must do your bidding?

He disappoints us.

I can sympathies with President Obama, poor baby.

I was too disappointed with the real world when I found my belief in fairies, unicorns and the tooth fairy were based on illusion and tall tails.

But, after growing into an adult… I recovered.

His mother father should have spanked him more often.

Other than that small correction, you nailed it right on the head.

Cleombrotus on May 6, 2014 at 9:40 PM

But in the words of Scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things.

Clearly, The Lord Almighty was too busy covering point-after attempts and inside-straights to bother to strike this buffoon down, for even contemptibly uttering that phrase with a straight face.

Obama is a delusional narcissistic FASCIST Bastard!

+ Infinity. :)

Theophile on May 7, 2014 at 12:06 AM

His self entitlement mentality was supported and encouraged at every level of his upbringing.

He had no more of a chance to perceive a normal life than some kid stuck in a backwater Afghan village. His “village” consisted of a loony mother, a self aggrandizing absent father (who Obama made a hero in is mind like Barney Stinson thinking Bob Barker was his dad), a communist grandfather and mother with Frank Marshall Davis being his mentor.

Then add in a life guided by forces even he couldn’t grasp (how do you think he ended up in Chicago- Davis’ old stomping grounds?), everything handed to him, including the Presidency.

All he had to do is show up and not look too bored.

Then he ran into the buzzsaw of reality, a world literally filled with men and women far more serious, far more prepared and far more deadly than “dead eye drone” Obama. Putin being one.

The difference between the two is simple. Obama would order someone to make the order to send in a drone to take someone out. Putin would sneak in and do it himself for fun.

To see Obama shocked and stunned and withdrawn isn’t a surprise at all. Actually, had he not been OUR President, it would have been justifiably funny! But he is, we suffer, so it isn’t.

The feeling is more than mutual.

a5minmajor on May 7, 2014 at 10:07 AM

No one could be more disappointed than the individual citizens in this country who have had to live under this narcissistic president. I cannot believe he is so convoluted in his thinking….but then again I can believe it. He is so wrapped up in himself he cannot possibly have any empathy for anyone but Obama. Sick individual in my opinion.
