Hot Air survey: Presidential primary candidate and issue testing

posted at 8:41 am on May 5, 2014 by Patrick Ishmael

It’s about that time. I’ve written this first survey as a pretty basic walk-through of the candidates, highlighting a handful of potentially motivating (or divisive) issues that could appear during the primaries. Obviously there are many issues that could be considered, so if you have suggestions for things to test in the future, please leave a note in the last question.

And this looks long, but it really isn’t. Should take just a couple minutes. Thanks for your time!

The site is horrible. I come to defend Palin and so do other Palin supporters

Unaffiliated4P on May 5, 2014 at 6:21 PM

I do not understand why people keep saying it is “improbable” that Carson will run. He is already practically running, and the campaigns do draft him have been hauling in seven figure sums. It may be unlikely he’d make it through the primary (our fault, not his) but is is not unlikely that he’ll run. If he was seeking all the publicity for a TV show or a radio gig he’d have one of those jobs already. If he wanted to run for a lower office he’d be doing right now in 2014. No, he’s angling for top dog.

Sarah Palin is the Real outsider . Palin is nothing like Obama . Ted Cruz is more like Obama . Ivy League , Instantly running , No accomplishments, birther issues.

Sarah Palin for President 2016 .

Palin couldn’t afford to stay governor and was left for dead by a corrupt GOP .

Unaffiliated4P on May 5, 2014 at 4:13 PM

That makes no sense what so ever. “She couldn’t afford to stay governor.” So is her baggage that bad that she needed to ditch? If she wanted to do the job she could have, instead she wanted to flee to the lower 48 and become a celebrity on Fox and her reality shows. I cannot blame her for that; however it also stops me from ever wanting to see her in elected office again. I have no loyalty for people who do not return their constituents loyalty to them.

“Instantly Running.” Palin was governor for 2 years when she ran for Vice President. “No Accomplishments.” What has Palin accomplished? …………..? “Birther issues?” There are no birthed issues with Cruz, if you think there are then you have no concept of the law. Palin has “secession issues” though.

Palin would be the GOP’s Obama because she’s the one everyone fangirls out over despite the fact that she has accomplished nothing. She’s all about being “Mama Grizzly” and nothing about having policy. She’d be vying for the job of celebrity in chief.

I say this as someone who would be thrilled if Sarah Palin put her name in the hat and who agrees she should have been in the poll. You are overselling. Enthusiasm for your candidate is great but you are coming across like a stereotypical pushy used-car salesman… It isn’t going to win support, but rather annoy and turn people off.

Sincerely,

a Palin fan

I am sorry that I do not buy in to your deluded fangirl excuses for why Palin left office. It is like listening to little girls wonder what went wrong with Miley Cyrus…

Yes, I have heard all the people try to say she “left because she didn’t want to be a distraction to the state” or she thought her problems were “harming Alaska.”

Well, if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen… and she did. But if you can’t exist with scandal in a state you are screwed in Washington.

eski502 on May 5, 2014 at 7:36 PM

Hey Sparky..:)

Sarah Palin’s Accomplishments

One of the most oft-repeated criticisms of Sarah Palin is that she doesn’t have any “accomplishments”. The usual line of attack, borrowed from the Lamestream Media, is that she couldn’t hack it as governor for more than two years, resigning in tears when confronted with the evidence of her unethical dealings (somehow she simultaneously gets blamed for the ethics laws themselves), and fleeing the state of Alaska in order to rake in the cash from her rabid cult following in the lower 48. Or something. Nary a mention of the Vice Presidential campaign, the long knives of the media and the Chicago mob machine, the dismissal of all ethics complaints, the crushing financial burden of defending herself from these charges, or her desire to serve her country at the national level. The fraudulent allegations of these cynical bystanders deserve a rebuttal.

Read it here..:)

eski502 on May 5, 2014 at 7:38 PM

Hey Sparky..:)

How could she have stayed governor? At the rate those bogus lawsuits were coming, almost one per week towards the end, she would have been nearly $2 million in debt by the end of her first term. A politically motivated judge even quashed her attempt at a legal defense fund.

All the while, every policy and every bill she promoted was being deliberately deep-sixed by a combine of Dems and corrupt-bastard-club GOP-ers, to keep her from having a single political success to her name. Add the way the media trumpeted every single phoney “scandal” and lawsuit. Palin was getting a (ludicrously false) reputation for corruption and ineffectiveness.

Even when she stepped down, there was a completely bogus story (from the usual PDS bloggers, who made up reams of lies about her) that it was due to an impending federal indictment in regards to some housing materials Todd bought and used in building their house. CNN, NBC, and even FoxNews all reported this (”we hear through the grapevine that an FBI indictment is in the works for Palin, blah, blah, blah”). The FBI even had to come out a few days later and deny the whole story. But none of the news networks bothered to mention this or retract their story.

There was NO WAY for Palin to continue actually governing. Maybe she could have just stayed in office and allowed herself to be a bloodied-up pincushion, her family in crippling debt, and her reputation destroyed. But she sidestepped all that, wrote her book, made herself more solvent, and worked her tail off for the Republicans in the 2010 mid-terms. Only to be stabbed in the back by them once more by the GOPe.

*WAR*

Palin crushed my heart when she decided not to run in 2012.

I thought, like Reagan, she was the right candidate at the right time — and likely the last hope to salvage the nation.

We need someone who will FIGHT BACK against the sycophantic LSM whores, as Reagan did.

I don’t want to endure that heartache again, so I’m going to have no expectations and assume she won’t run evermore … and if I’m wrong — GREAT!!!

There are a lot of good choices. Last time around I was with Santorum from the get-go, and I think his new message is better than ever. I also am mad for Ted Cruz and Ben Carson. However, I selected Scott Walker because not only do I like him a lot, but he has proven “electability” even when he is the target of a vicious political fight. The libs threw everything they had at him, and he came out a winner, stronger than before. We need that, more than ever.

I agree with her on almost every issue, but I refuse to put her in front of any candidate with equal views who has served diligently in their jobs.

Sorry, not asking for much.

Both parties are lost, and so is the nation.

Ben Carson is a phony propped up to be a siphon for the GOP establishment that’s why he’s promoted by the establishment . Give me Allen West if we are looking for a great black hope . Allen West is miles better than Ben Carson .

I say Sarah Palin for President and Allen West for Vice President . Palin/West 2016 the ticket to save America . Sarah Palin is running for President . She wouldn’t be calling out half the field when they screw up or stray if she wasn’t

You guys think we are going to win up against the Hillary machine with Cruz, Jindal, Bush, Christie, or Perry?

That’s hilarious.

As much as I would love to see a Rand Paul/Cruz ticket, it will not win against the Hillary machine. No way, no how.

Think Benghazi will sink the Hillary machine? Think again.

There is only one man who has even a shot against her. Either you get Mitt to run again, or get ready for 8 years of Hillary then 8 years of Julian Castro.

Perry — check out how cozy he is with radical islam. I’m a lifelong Texan, Perry has done fairly well. Far from perfect.

Rand Paul — Love him, but his views on foreign policy are as wacky as his father’s. And we should apologize to Japan for WWII? The dems will never let that plagiarist thing go.

Cruz will be painted as that “nutty, mean, crazy guy that shut down the government to read Green Eggs and Ham.”

Mitt would be attacked for a lot of things, but he has the clout and the name recognition to meet and overcome it.

Get the mormon back or for sure we’ll have two hillary terms and two castro terms.

Your choice, folks.

Hillary and Mitt are both toast! Has beens. Losers. Did you hear that Romneycare failed and is being replaced? Did you hear that Mitt lost the last go ’round??? Or that Hilly has blood on her hands???

I have much greater faith in in US/the U.S.

Walker. My top 4 on the list were Walker, Jindal, Cruz and Perry, everyone else far behind. I really like Cruz but would prefer a governor. Wrote in Sarah P. for “next time”.

NickTx, you are nuts. I probably like Mitt more than 98% of the posters here but he is done, over. If he runs again he’ll be verging into Harold Stassen territory. For those too young to remember Stassen was a moderate Repub who had a shot in the early ’50s and then kept running every election long past his sell-by date, becoming a national joke.

FOAF on May 6, 2014 at 2:40 AM

Opinionator,

Yes, Im aware of all of those things. It wont stop the Hillary Machine. The blood on her hands will be (or should I say has been) washed away by the media.

I’m glad you have greater faith in what’s left of our country. I do not share that sentiment.

FOAF,

I am far from nuts. It took Reagan a couple of stabs at it before he was elected and people forget that.

As much as I would like to see a Palin/Cruz, Rand Paul/Cruz WIN the presidency, that just isn’t going to happen. The primaries would even be a long shot, much less the slaughter we would face in the general election.

We will lose. The tipping point, has tipped. So 8 years of Hillary and 8 years of Julian Castro after that.

Nonetheless, I’ll turn out to vote no matter who we choose.

I’m just sayin.
