MoDo to Obama: Singles hitters don’t scare anybody

posted at 4:01 pm on May 3, 2014 by Bruce McQuain

Criticism of President Obama is now coming from all corners because … well because his poor performance in just about every field, both foreign and domestic, can no longer be denied.  The latest blast comes from a former journalistic fangirl who apparently has seen enough.  Using baseball  as her analogy, Maureen Dowd takes Obama to the woodshed:

An American president should never say, as you did Monday in Manila when you got frustrated in a press conference with the Philippine president: “You hit singles; you hit doubles. Every once in a while, we may be able to hit a home run.”

Especially now that we have this scary World War III vibe with the Russians, we expect the president, especially one who ran as Babe Ruth, to hit home runs.

In the immortal words of Earl Weaver, the Hall of Famer who managed the Baltimore Orioles: “The key to winning baseball games is pitching, fundamentals, and three-run homers.” A singles hitter doesn’t scare anybody.

It doesn’t feel like leadership. It doesn’t feel like you’re in command of your world.

How can we accept these reduced expectations and truculent passivity from the man who offered himself up as the moral beacon of the world, even before he was elected?

Of course, the answer to all of these questions really fall back on the person asking them – what did she expect from a man who’d never really done anything in his life – whose entire adult life was spent running for the next office?  How did an experienced and supposedly rational person like herself fall so completely for the “expectations”? The point of course is Dowd, like many on the left, is finally expressing a case of buyer’s remorse because they didn’t do their due diligence and check out the background and accomplishments – or lack thereof- of the candidate in question.  They allowed themselves to be caught up in the hype and hyperbole.  They “‘believed”.

Their belief was based in fantasy, not reality.  They fell for the “hope and change” scam.

The result has been a man who has, in his two terms in office, diminished the office and the nation’s stature in the world.  He’s become someone who few in the world respect and certainly don’t fear.  And that is all the wolves of the world need to bite off a chunk of their liking.  See the Ukraine for instance.  Meanwhile in the middle east, Egypt is buying aircraft from the Russians, Saudi Arabia is buying missiles from the Chinese and our relations with Israel are likely at their lowest point since Israel’s founding.

Dowd is a little late to the party.  But it is notable that she’s finally arrived.  I assume this is some sort of an attempt to salvage whatever journalistic integrity her former fandom has cost her.

However, Dowd hints at one very important point that is likely what she really believes but just can’t bring herself to say yet – Obama isn’t even much of a singles hitter.  “Strike out King” would be a better title.

Don’t these people understand yet?

Obama believes he’s succeeding when America fails. I hope to God he’s the most un-American president we ever have. But with everyone under 40 obsessed with sodomy, I doubt it.

Does anyone, other than Democrats, enjoy living in a country in which the prevailing political party sneers are every American failure?

She knows ( and appreciates) how much damage the Incomptent Occupier of the WH has done to this country and loves every bit of the transformation…….from the naked emperor who has served her purpose.

Its time for the truth-telling.

There is nothing peculiar about Obama’s agenda. What he has done has been the core of the progressive movement for decades. The difference with Obama is that he doesn’t give a damn about laws, the Constitution, or tradition. He has gone out of his way violate the very fabric of this country, and the other progressives are happy he has done so.

His legacy will not be a kind one, but it will be exactly what the socialists have dreamed of since the beginning of our democratic experiment.

If any white president had tried to pull much of this shite, he’d have the progs, the poor, but there’d be no white guilt and the middle-class on up who aren’t hard left would not be with him. What Maureen Dowd and those other faintly critical public voices are witnessing is not simply the failure of Obama the Uber-Dude, but the failure of all their own progressive beliefs.

The county is not in an economic tail-spin due solely to Obama’s personal failings, but because of all those imbecilic far left enviro-nazi programs and policies the elite all hold so dear.

We are a paper tiger internationally because Obama is doing what the anti-war brain-free crowd WANTED. We are witnessing the results.

Maureen and her friends may face reality enough to stop tongue bathing the Preezy, but what they will never ever ever be willing to face is that its not just the guy implementing their fascist fantasy world, but the fantasies themselves that are bankrupt.

I guarantee they will hold tight to their world view, and get all misty-eyed and drooly over whoever is next to be anointed Proggy Queen

Laura Castellano on May 3, 2014 at 6:10 PM

I shall now and forever ruin my favorite baseball poem:

The outlook wasn’t brilliant for the Oval Office nine that day:
The score stood four to two, with but one inning more to play,
And then when Carney died at first, and Sebilious did the same,
A pall-like silence fell upon the patrons of the game.

A straggling few got up to go in deep despair. The rest
Clung to the hope which springs eternal in the human breast;
They thought, “If only Obama could but get a whack at that—
We’d put up even money now, with Obama at the bat.”

But Biden preceded Obama, as did also Steve Colbert,
And the former was a hoodoo, while the latter was a cake;
So upon that stricken multitude grim melancholy sat,
For there seemed but little chance of Obama getting to the bat.

But Pelosi let drive a single, to the wonderment of all,
And Geithner, the much despisèd, tore the cover off the ball;
And when the dust had lifted, and men saw what had occurred,
There was Timmy safe at second and Nancy a-hugging third.

Then from 92 million unemployed throats and more there rose a lusty yell;
It rumbled through the valley, it rattled in the dell;
It pounded on the mountain and recoiled upon the flat,
For Obama, mighty Obama, was advancing to the bat.

There was ease in Obama’s manner as he stepped into his place;
There was pride in Obama’s bearing and a smile lit Obama’s face.
And when, responding to the cheers, he lightly doffed his hat,
No stranger in the crowd could doubt ‘twas Obama at the bat.

Ten thousand eyes were on him as he rubbed his hands with dirt;
Five thousand tongues applauded when he wiped them on his shirt;
Then while the writhing pitcher ground the ball into his hip,
Defiance flashed in Obama’s eye, a sneer curled Obama’s lip.

And now the Benghazi call came hurtling through the air,
And Obama stood a-watching it in haughty grandeur there.
Close by the sturdy batsman the call unheeded sped—
“That ain’t my style,” said Obama. “Strike one!” the umpire said.

From the benches, black with people, there went up a muffled roar,
Like the beating of the storm-waves on a stern and distant shore;
“Kill him! Kill the umpire!” shouted Debbie Wasserman!;
And it’s likely they’d have killed him had not Obama raised his hand.

With a smile of pathetic apathy great Obama’s visage shone;
He stilled the rising tumult; he bade the game go on;
He watched Crimea on his Ipod, and once more the dun sphere flew;
But Obama still ignored it and the umpire said, “Strike two!”

“Fraud!” cried the maddened thousands, and echo answered “Fraud!”
But one scornful look from Obama and the audience was awed.
They saw his face grow stern and cold, they saw his muscles strain,
And they knew that Obama wouldn’t let another call go by again.

The sneer is gone from Obama’s lip, his teeth are clenched in hate,
He pounds with cruel violence his bat upon the plate;
And now Putin takes Ukraine, and with it thumbs his nose,
And now the air is shattered by the force of Obama’s blow.

Oh, somewhere in this favoured land the sun is shining bright,
The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light;
And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout,
But there is no joy in Mudville—mighty Obama has struck out.

BD57 has it right . . . . . Maureen Dowd is (how can I put this?…) less … of a “sycophant”, than the rest of American journalists, when it comes to criticizing liberal leaders.

But you’ll never hear her say anything genuinely complimentary of a conservative leader … ever.

I was anti-Obama before it was cool.

Wow. It’s taken MoDo six years to figure out what most of us here at HA have known the whole time. Other than his skin color, there is little about Obama to get excited about and a gracious plenty to be scared about.

For the least few days, a fly has been buzzing around my kitchen window, trapped in the air space between the glass and screen. Unable to get nourishment, the trapped fly has moved with less and less vigor until this morning it was merely clinging to the screen.

While doing dishes tonight, I saw this dying fly laying on the sill, still trapped, clearly doomed.
I realized with a start he was actually reading my newspaper resting on the counter, open to the political section.

Leaning down at this unexpected vision, he made eye(s) contact with me and with one of his last breaths said “You have my pity.”

Let’s add a few people to the singles hitters category:

John Boehner
Mitch McConnell
Establishment Republicans

Let’s look at the Home Run Hitters and see how they were treated:

Sharon Angle
Christine O’Donnell
Ted Cruz
Marco Rubio
Mike Lee
Rand Paul
Richard Mourdock

People complain about Sharon Angle, in Nevada, but she gave Reid a run for his money and the GOP establishment can’t show how anyone else would have either won, or come closer than ANGLE. Secondly, Christine O’Donnell was attacked savagely by the Democrats, Press, and never protected by the GOP. I’m not going to comment on the candidate for the Senate in Missouri because he wasn’t a tea party candidate, the Democrats pulled a fast one there.

If the GOP plays hardball with the tea party, their result could be a 3rd Party, in which the GOP becomes the Whigs. Can you imagine the party of Lincoln becoming the Whigs? Only in America can a political party be so stupid as to listen to the opposition and eat their young.

MoDo thinks small ball is a medical condition.

Barry has had nothing but intentional walks all of his life.

Sounds like MoDo knows a lot about men who can’t hit home runs

The prez has basically struck out every time at bat since he was first elected, and now Maureen Dowd, liberal of liberals, is on his case. When you’re a blazing liberal you’ve lost Down as a supporter, it’s time to throw in the towel.

Clearly, Øbama isn’t, and never was, ready for the big leagues. Spoon fed by affirmative action enablers his entire life, he epitomizes the rank stupidity of that program. He is the embodiment of the Peter Principle, which is all that Affirmative Action can produce.

The most lasting damage (to date) that he has done is to our loyalty and credibility in dealing with foes and friends.

Big Bad Bush disarmed Libya, so Obama invaded and let the mob have the guy who disarmed.

Ukraine gave up its nukes on the US promise to always have its back.

Lesson to all nations: don’t disarm, don’t give up your nukes.

Incalculable damage.

Obama isn’t even a “Strike-out King” because he isn’t even in the game. He’s a wannabe…a jock-sniffer.
