Obama: After Oklahoma’s botched execution, I’m asking Eric Holder to review the death penalty

posted at 2:41 pm on May 2, 2014 by Allahpundit

Is this a real review, or one of those buy-some-time-until-people-forget-about-it “reviews” a la Holder weighing whether to charge George Zimmerman with a federal crime after he was acquitted in Florida? Given the recent dip in support for the death penalty has fallen, Democrats might feel safe-ish pushing for a moratorium on capital punishment in federal cases circa late 2015 or early 2016, to goose their base a little before the next vote. A studiously fair ‘n balanced review by Eric Holder could be just the pretext they need.

Calling a botched state killing in Oklahoma “deeply troubling,” President Barack Obama said Friday the federal government would review death penalty procedures around the country.

Obama said he’s asked Attorney General Eric Holder to conduct an analysis of how death row criminals are killed after an execution attempt in Oklahoma left an accused murderer writhing and convulsing following a lethal injection…

“Racial bias. Uneven application of the death penalty. Situations in which there were individuals on death row who later on were discovered to have been innocent because of exculpatory evidence – all these I think do raise significant questions about how the death penalty is being applied,” he said.

This retort on Twitter caught my attention:

Actually, O didn’t say that he had no opinion on Gosnell last year, he said that he couldn’t comment while the trial was active. Well, the trial’s not active anymore. Has anyone followed up with him on that subject since then? If Holder’s keen on studying how death is meted out in America, the Gosnell slaughterhouse is a fine starting point for an inquiry into the abortion side of it. But that’d be a buy-some-time-until-people-forget-about-it “review” if ever there was one.

Perhaps if they would execute convicted murderers in the same way that they execute innocent unborn babies the President and Attorney General would not object? They seem to be fine with that method of execution.

I guess when it comes to poor teenage Stephanie, who was tortured, terrorized, shot and buried alive, he is just relieved that the savage that killed this innocent girl did not deny her access to birth control in her final terrible hours.

Oklahoma has another inmate on death row who was supposed to be executed shortly after Lockett.

Charles Warner

Warner was convicted of the rape and murder of an eleven month old little girl, Adrianna Waller.

Adrianna was dead on arrival at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City.

Her skull, jaw and ribs were fractured. Her liver was lacerated, her spleen and lungs were bruised.

It was a sharp-eyed charge nurse who first noticed the signs of sexual abuse, as she cleaned Adrianna’s tiny body so that her mother could hold her one last time. Her baby weighed the same as a sack of potatoes.

This is the other convicted murderer, who, with Lockett, sued to get a stay of execution demanding to know what drugs would be used to kill him, the concern being that he might feel discomfort during the execution.

thatsafactjack on May 2, 2014 at 3:39 PM

Perhaps if blacks didn’t commit 52% of all murders and 57% of all murders involving guns, black executions wouldn’t be such an issue.

If Obama and Holder want to end the death penalty, then they’ve got to amend the law to stop letting convicted murders and rapists who get a life sentence out of prison. No more commuting their sentences, no more parole.

In the EU there’s a movement afoot on the LEFT to end sentences of natural life. They claim that such a sentence is cruel.

Really? Do their victims get to speak?

Is it less cruel to the next victim when we let a known convicted rapist and/or murderer back out on the streets? Especially when we know there is an exceedingly high recidivism rate?

LukeinNE on May 2, 2014 at 4:34 PM

About twenty years ago, NPR played leaked audio tapes of executions by electric chair somewhere in the south. You heard calm, official voices saying things like, “Twenty seconds. Twenty-five,” and that deep hum you hear from electrical transformers.

There was literally no reaction, and I remember the people who leaked the tapes saying they were shocked and heartbroken that the public didn’t rise up and say, “ENOUGH! NOT IN MY NAME!”

Texas used to post the last meals of the soon-to-be-dead criminals, but they stopped offering last meals in 2011 after Lawrence Brewer ordered the following and then didn’t eat it.

Two chicken-fried steaks with gravy and sliced onions; a triple-patty bacon cheeseburger; a cheese omelet with ground beef, tomatoes, onions, bell peppers and jalapeños; a bowl of fried okra with ketchup; one pound of barbecued meat with half a loaf of white bread; three fajitas; a meat-lover’s pizza; one pint of Blue Bell Ice Cream; a slab of peanut-butter fudge with crushed peanuts; and three root beers.

mixplix on May 2, 2014 at 4:50 PM

Death-penalty cases will be reviewed only if the poor victim of the death-penalty sentence is of color.
Everything in this country is upside down. Real victims are ignored and denegrated and hardened murderous criminals are viewed as victims.
Every killer/rapist victim of the system who is released from death sentence is another potential vote for the party and another potential ACA enrollee. Those who have been killed – well, they can’t vote and can’t enroll in healthcare.

maryo on May 2, 2014 at 4:53 PM

As seen on twitchy yesterday:

If it makes Liberals feel better change the name from The Death Penalty to Retroactive Abortion. That way convicted murderers could be executed just for being inconvenient.

Young, innocent girl is tortured, raped, beaten and purposely buried alive.

Killer, rightfully is convicted and gets the death penalty.

The federal government conspires with drug companies to make the necessary drugs for lethal injections difficult to find. Prisons look for alternatives.

Doesn’t give a damn about Kermit Gosnell’s death clinic. Went to bed as Christopher Stevens and three others were being killed in an American consulate (with countless others injured) by Muslims. Gave a shout out to some native-American before the blood was dry in the first Fort Hood shooting. Couldn’t be bothered with the Washington Navy Yard victims even though he was only a few miles away………

But when some black dude may have suffered for a few minutes while being executing for kidnapping, raping, duct-taping, shooting, and burying alive a young woman. Well that’s deeply troubling. I wonder if Obama would show the same concern had the filthy killer been white.

He made his sons pass through the fire in the valley of Ben-hinnom; and he practiced witchcraft, used divination, practiced sorcery and dealt with mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the eyes of the Lord, arousing his anger.

Revelation 22:15
Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.

Wearing such a moniker given what the bible says should be an embarrassment yet you flaunt it with pride. I hope you get the prayer and understanding you need because currently your are doing someone’s work but it is not the Lord’s.

I hope the murdering, sadistic rapist died in the most painful way possible.

Doesn’t surprise me the panderer-in-chief is making this into an issue to whip up his lefty loon base.

A compromise (if it hasn’t already been suggested): execute the condemned by drone.

Pump him full of poison. I hope it’s as painful as possible. I’ll save my sympathy for that poor, sweet baby.

You say botched. I say AWESOME. More like that, please.

Left/liberal opposition to the death penalty has nothing to do with this man’s dying of a heart attack. Obama doesn’t have a shred of honesty in him. What a farce, that Obama wants to review the death penalty because the prisoner died of a heart attack, and not lethal injection.

oldennis on May 2, 2014 at 7:14 PM

The man was going to die anyway, for Pete’s sake.

Smokescreen Barry can’t ever STFU.

You people are really disturbed. If this is how one has to think and talk to be a bagger, no thanks. I need to shower, gross.

AmlissVess on May 2, 2014 at 5:57 PM

Perfect bumper-sticker for you “if obama was your answer your question must have been really stupid”.

Yes, he can. He’s mum on where he was from 5:00p.m. the day of the Benghazi terrorist attack, until the next morning.

He is the lowest scum ever to have been chief. Criticizing him, like all the others who inhabited that seat, is the highest form of equality and anti-racism.

He let the adulterous woman who was supposed to be stoned to death walk.
Everywhere else in the world, Christians are against death penalty.
In America, Christians are for it.

That should tell you the “kind” of Christians we have here in this country.

I rest my case.

Time to light up another prescription.

weedisgood on May 2, 2014 at 5:11 PM

Why is that? Because He died for her sin.

Yours too.
