Obama: After Oklahoma’s botched execution, I’m asking Eric Holder to review the death penalty

posted at 2:41 pm on May 2, 2014 by Allahpundit

Is this a real review, or one of those buy-some-time-until-people-forget-about-it “reviews” a la Holder weighing whether to charge George Zimmerman with a federal crime after he was acquitted in Florida? Given the recent dip in support for the death penalty has fallen, Democrats might feel safe-ish pushing for a moratorium on capital punishment in federal cases circa late 2015 or early 2016, to goose their base a little before the next vote. A studiously fair ‘n balanced review by Eric Holder could be just the pretext they need.

Calling a botched state killing in Oklahoma “deeply troubling,” President Barack Obama said Friday the federal government would review death penalty procedures around the country.

Obama said he’s asked Attorney General Eric Holder to conduct an analysis of how death row criminals are killed after an execution attempt in Oklahoma left an accused murderer writhing and convulsing following a lethal injection…

“Racial bias. Uneven application of the death penalty. Situations in which there were individuals on death row who later on were discovered to have been innocent because of exculpatory evidence – all these I think do raise significant questions about how the death penalty is being applied,” he said.

This retort on Twitter caught my attention:

Actually, O didn’t say that he had no opinion on Gosnell last year, he said that he couldn’t comment while the trial was active. Well, the trial’s not active anymore. Has anyone followed up with him on that subject since then? If Holder’s keen on studying how death is meted out in America, the Gosnell slaughterhouse is a fine starting point for an inquiry into the abortion side of it. But that’d be a buy-some-time-until-people-forget-about-it “review” if ever there was one.

Yes, he can. He’s mum on where he was from 5:00p.m. the day of the Benghazi terrorist attack, until the next morning.

He was with Reggie Love.

Stevens, after saying good-bye to the Turkish envoy, was with the local boys, payback for his help in getting Quaddafi.

The media have known all this from the day after it happened.

Some radio stations skirted around it today, but they don’t want to say it, yet.

I asked “where was he”, and “why was Stevens in Benghazi on the anniv. of 9/11, from the day after the attack.

Plus, where was Hillary during that time? Don’t know this.

Ask these 3 questions, Stevens, obama/Hillary’s whereabouts, and why.

The idea that Jesus will support state sanctioned murder can only be entertained in America.

Are you talking about the same Jesus whose father killed millions for their crimes by flooding the planet? The same father who killed who knows how many people by burning 2 cities to the ground to punish them for their crimes, lol?

The idea that executing murderers as punishment for their crime equals state sanctioned murder can only be entertained by those who are a few fries short of a happy meal. The only state sanctioned murder happening in this country is abortion, something you likely support.

He let the adulterous woman who was supposed to be stoned to death walk.

Yeah, because a woman having consensual sex is just like raping, beating and murdering an 11 year old by burying her alive. You do realize we don’t execute people for cheating on their spouse, right?

You might want to rethink that weed thing. You can’t afford to lose many more brain cells.

If you want a good read… this story is just amazing. Oklahoma’s Executioner Rick Owens.
http://ladailymirror.com/2014/04/30/oklahomas-executioner-rich-owens/

Saw it on Ace and it just shows how far we have fallen.

This guy actually stomped on a prisoner’s head who had tried to escape.. who was pleading for mercy after putting a knife in his back 4 inches deep… using the knife as bridle.. twisting it to make him turn ( the prisoners captured Rick in a prison tool shed, bound his hands and stuck the knife in his back.. but Rick swore he’d kill both of them instead and yelled at the guard to shoot them all down (himself included.)

And afterwards.. after getting knocked out with an ax to the head, having his hands tied with barb wire, a knife stuck 4 inches deep in his back and yelling at the guard to kill them all, fighting hand to hand and killing one with a knife and the other with a shovel and stomping on his head until his skull cracked… his only complaint was that the knife “caused and awful sore.”

And as mean as this executioner was…he was tempered with mercy towards the wife of a friend he had to execute.. giving her $100 to leave town. And made sure that if a prisoner wanted to pray.. “that he ought to be allowed to pray.”

today that man would need psychological counseling and therapy to get over the deep emotional scars of what he had to go through.. saying nothing of the lawsuits. Yet other states wanted his services.

America was a different place.

weedisgood on May 2, 2014 at 5:11 PM

Let’s reference the Old Testament law:

Lev 20:10 And the man that committeth adultery with another man’s wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour’s wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

The adulterer and adulteress both, huh? Too bad they could only find the woman. They must have come up too late to catch the man, right?

Wait….

John 8:4-5 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?

How did they catch her ‘in the very act,’ but somehow miss the guy she was, you know, ‘acting’ with?

It’s almost like this wasn’t really a serious question. Why, it’s almost like this was a contrived situation to try to manipulate Jesus, and He outsmarted them.

BTW, show me where Jesus disagreed with or condemned the death penalty.

Sherman1864 on May 3, 2014 at 6:53 AM

GREAT LOGIC!

Let’s end capital punishment because of a single execution error. And this from the same gang which has executed tens of millions of babies and even used some of them for fue! (Why liberals want to spare the lives of axe murderers and serial killers yet are merciless to innocent babies is itself worthy of a psychiatric treatise.) But, using the same logic-sparing a murderer because the executioner made (or might make in the future) a mistake is like saying:

. No more air travel because a stupid pilot might cause a crash
. If a rifle misfires in combat, let’s surrender
. No buildings higher than 500 feet because it would attract terrorist plane hijackers.
. No more ships and boats because people have been known to drown.
. And, of course, end all contact sports.

.

It could be something worse like some of the foreign media claims about infidelity so maybe he was off duty blowing off steam in a drug laced sex romp with Mr Love but I would wager it more due to his self centered narcissism and craven political priorities.

If we had a LEADER who cared about US interest instead of getting his sleep to be spot on for his next campaign fundraiser he would have been in the ready room clearing the orders, things could have should have been different. If he had been present to approve orders instead of just 2 seals it would have been a full team. If he had been present to approve orders instead of deploying a single drone it would have been a drone and from Italy F-16s loaded out ready to kill or at least make those screaming low passes that haji knows means the reaper is ready to collect.

This above is why after the fact the politicks looked around and realized this had to be covered up. Regardless were what he was doing in those hours he dropped the ball big time. If this was just an attack and nothing could have been done different they would not have covered it up, instead it would have just been like Boston another attack that got through the defense line.

Let me see if I understand this. The man is accused of a heinous murder. He is tried in a court of law. He is convicted of the heinous murder by a jury. He has his rights to appeal. He is accorded all those rights assured him by due process. He is being put to death for his crime. Instead of dying through lethal injection, he dies 45 minutes later of a heart attack. And this is the most horrible thing that ever happened?

What botched execution ?

Brock Robamney on May 4, 2014 at 9:38 AM

Until society starts making criminals pay for their crimes in the same manner that their victims suffered, there will continue to be crime. This POS inmate brutally, raped, shot, then buried the woman alive. His “botched” execution resulted in him having a heart attack, in which he may have felt pain. Good. The pain he felt was nothing near what his victim felt. In my America (nod to Judge Judy)he would have been sodomized by a baseball bat, shot, then buried alive just like his victim. Then it would be televised on national TV for all the other thugs to witness. Now that is a crime deterrent and a worth punishment.

F_This on May 4, 2014 at 10:35 AM

As I understand it, the correct procedure is to poke a hole in their head and suck their brains out, then pull their limbs off, no wait, that’s killing babies and is legal. What’s botched is to inject a medicine into a multiple rapist, killer and give him a heart attack. Oh yeah, now I see.
