Video: Dem congressman doubles down on claim that criticizing Obama is racist

posted at 6:11 pm on April 30, 2014 by Allahpundit

I’m as excited as you are. When you’ve already received a contribution to the National Dialogue On Race as rich and nuanced as Bennie Thompson’s, obviously you want more. Let’s check in with CNN for today’s dose of wisdom:

Bash: Isn’t that a racially charged term [to call Clarence Thomas an "Uncle Tom"]?

Thompson: “For some it is, but to others it’s the truth.”

Bash: Because looking at that and hearing that kind of language, that certainly wouldn’t be appropriate if it was coming from somebody who was white.

Thompson: “But I’m black.”

QED. Look at it from his perspective: He knows he won’t be reprimanded, so why waste time cooking up anything more than pro forma spin?

If you want a fresh take on this nearly exhausted subject, Nate Silver’s got a new data-crunch at FiveThirtyEight that uses eight metrics to try to determine whether white Republicans really are more racist than white Democrats. His answer: Yes, but only marginally (less than single digits) in most measures, and the two metrics that show wide gaps implicate partisan economic views, not just race. Like I said yesterday in my first post on Thompson, it’s difficult for neutral observers to tell how much of the last five years is a reaction to Obama and how much is a reaction to the financial crisis and endless economic woes and “cures” that followed. The two eras overlap nearly perfectly. If many more white Republicans than white Democrats think that “too much” money is spent improving conditions for blacks, how much of that is due to racism and how much is due to Republicans believing that too much money is spent on nearly everything? Same with the wide partisan gap when whites of both parties are asked whether blacks lack the motivation to pull themselves out of poverty. It may be that racial views are affecting that, but the idea that America is the land of opportunity where someone who works hard can find success is basic conservative dogma. Is the recent spike among GOPers on that question a reaction to Obama’s race or is it a reaction to protracted unemployment and demands for ever-extending unemployment benefits among the broader population after the crash of 2008? The answer depends on whether it’s in your political interest to cast the GOP as a party of inveterate racists. I can guess what Thompson would say.

When you are the one fixated on race; persistently speak in terms of race; define people by race; and default their motives to race – then YOU are the one who is racist!

I’m so sick of these odious race trolls and their persistent bigot spew.

It’s racist to not criticize and mock the half-black president, same as all the others. So long as that is not accepted, you who claim otherwise are the true racist and MLK wants a word with you.

NewsBusters reminds us:

This isn’t the first time the Democratic congressman has raised eyebrows. In 2007, Thompson, who was then chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, advised his aides to get immunized against several diseases, such as hepatitis A, hepatitis B, diphtheria, tetanus and influenza, before taking a trip to a NASCAR race.

Rick Moran took the Mississippi Democrat to task in a Wednesday item on the American Thinker website, labeling Rep. Thompson “the black Donald Sterling,” and pointed out that the politician “will go to work today as if nothing happened. And as far as the media is concerned, nothing did.” Time will certainly tell.

Dr. Goebbels is looking up and smiling.

He may make more money but he’s in a gerrymandered district of poor stupid blacks which makes this racist the perfect mouthpiece for the entire racist agenda of the CBC.

I guess actually reading classic fiction like “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” or “Animal Farm” isn’t a big thing with leftists and racist h8ers like this fine fellow AKA ignorant cretin.

Being called an Uncle Tom really means being termed a Christian hero who spreads the balm of faith and love among his fellow unfortunates. A passive resistor for justice in the Gandhian mode.

Damn, what an awful name.

Dolce Far Niente on April 30, 2014 at 6:40 PM

As long as a majority of blacks see the world through the prism of racism then they will remain by far the most screwed up group of the American society… They will remain the poorest, the least educated, the most dependent on the Welfare State, the most ravaged by crimes and drugs, the most out of wedlock children, and every ill under the sun… All this is only their fault and of course with a big help from the white liberals who want them to remain as such and in return get the black vote to obtain power…

It’s hard to demonstrate that you care about people when the programs that they hold closest to their survival are being put on the chopping block.”

This fool doesn’t even realize (or knows it, but wants to keep his job) that government welfare programs and social engineering have devastated American black culture.

There was a time when the black teenage unemployment level was essentially even with white, and even lower than white teenage unemployment. This was before Civil Rights laws were passed! This is just one of many examples.

Now, after 40+ years of social engineering in dark-blue, Progressive urban areas black teenage unemployment remains at 30-40% under Obama.

Prejudice is not a great thing, but it’s not racism. Adopting terms like this shows ignorance in the extreme. Using the term doesn’t mean one is racist, but many who use the term happen to be racist.

As long as some people claim to have a right to use a term they deem hateful coming from anyone else, they are prejudice and hypocritical at the very least. When they start hating others based on the color of their skin, they are bigots. If they act on that hatred in public speech or deeds, then they are racists. The same rules apply to all races without exception. If you think you are exempt from the rule, you’re also an idiot and hypocrite.

Because of people like this, I doubt there will be another black president for years to come. If I disagree with a White President, I’m stupid. If I disagree with a Black President, I’m a Stupid Racist. This is all about policy and the failure of this administration to properly address the problems at hand. If Black politicians can’t understand that, maybe they should be voted out because they’re the racist ones.

Video: Dem congressman doubles down on claim that criticizing Obama is racist

…what happens…if I find what he says is ‘ethnic intimidation’ and it frightens me…and my well being is affected?

I wonder how they talk in the Congressional Black Caucus. Any ideas?

Three questions for Bennie.

(1) What’s the title of the book from which the slur Uncle Tom is popularly thought to originate?

(2) Who wrote that book?

(3) What do you think of black school children who say that trying hard to do well in school is “acting white”?

The first two are “read and report” questions. The third is a “stop and think” question.

Nah, I’d vote for Allen West, Ben Carson or even Kareem Abdul Jabar now in a heartbeat.

Sounds like a plan to me …

If many more white Republicans than white Democrats think that “too much” money is spent improving conditions for blacks, how much of that is due to racism and how much is due to Republicans believing that too much money is spent on nearly everything?

WHAT????!! Those are the only two choices? C’mon, Allahpundit, you know better than that.
