Latest ad from Sen. Landrieu features a Republican shipbuilder touting her energy creds

posted at 1:21 pm on April 28, 2014 by Erika Johnsen

Team Landrieu’s third official TV spot of the cycle is going for more or less the same message as her second one released in mid-April, but through an ever-so-slightly different strategy. She wanted the Senate Energy chairmanship so badly exactly for the purpose to which she’s now putting it: To tout her position of national power as an asset to Louisianans and particularly Louisiana’s expansive energy sector, and make it the highlight of her campaign to distract from her ObamaCare vote. Her previous advert was all about her directly calling out President Obama for his weaksauce energy policies (the better to differentiate herself from him and his current unpopularity), and this one features a Republican businessman personally vouching for her pro-energy chops to accomplish that same goal for her — because, when it comes to energy at least, she needs to convince her red-state’s oil-and-gas industry that she’s practically a Republican herself:

Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) has released a new campaign ad that touts the support of a Republican in her state.

The 30-second ad is narrated by Boysie Bollinger, a ship builder in Lockport, La., and notes Landrieu’s influential position as chairwoman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.

“I have over 3,000 employees, and even though I’m a Republican and don’t always agree with her, Louisiana can’t afford to lose Mary Landrieu,” Bollinger says through a Louisiana accent. “She’s chairman of the Energy Committee, the most powerful position a person can have for Louisiana.”

Update: Well. I shouldn’t think it’s any wonder that this particular Louisiana Republican supports Mary Landrieu. Just sayin’, from last September:

The Coast Guard Wednesday awarded a $250 million contract to Bollinger Shipyards of Lockport to build six Fast Response Cutters. The contract will keep 1,200 people employed, according to Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., who helped secure the funding in the 2013 Homeland Security spending bill.

“This follow-on award will continue to provide hundreds of jobs for our employees and our Louisiana supplier network,” said Chris Bollinger, president of Bollinger Shipyards. He thanked Landrieu for securing the funding.

His father, Boysie Bollinger, a Louisiana Republican leader and CEO and chairman of the family operated shipyard, broke with his party earlier this year to endorse Landrieu’s 2014 re-election bid.

Careful there ship builder. She’ll turn you gay. Not that there is anything wrong with that. I guess.

Boysie was, for many years, the chairman of the Louisiana Republican Party. He is very close to the Bush family.

Resist We Much on April 28, 2014 at 1:35 PM

So-

A Republican candidate getting an endorsement from a big businessman. Hey look the Republican is only looking out after fat cats!

Mary Landrieu getting an endorsement from a big businessman (who has made millions gouging the government on defense contracts). Hey look, Mary’s really a conservative!

At least we know that’s the real Boysie Bollinger and not a recreated version like her fake but accurate depiction of going the full schoolmarm on Obama.

Happy Nomad on April 28, 2014 at 1:36 PM

But guess what, if the Republicans take the Senate (fingers crossed) and you still have good ole Mary………

Republican and Democrat ploiticians both answer to the money; they just tell differnt lies to get elected. They both want the biggest possible government so that they may wield the most power for the beggest payoff.

So this guy isn’t a politician. That he identies as a Republican instead of Conservative tells me all I need to know- he’ll pay to play and get paid to play.

In other words, he’s just another no-honor Republican azzhole.

Well, if Boehner is looking at amnesty in August and repairing Obamacare, rather than repealing it, that projected senate majority thing might get a little sweaty.

butch on April 28, 2014 at 1:45 PM

Yeah, never mind that she was just made chairman of the Energy Committee, in order to help her get re-elected – and on every front, she continues to wreak havoc on Louisiana and America.

Whether Landrieu wins or loses, Mr. Bollinger is going to regret shilling for her.

The vast majority of Louisianians are smarter than Landrieu and Bollinger think.

Landrieu must go.

1) Boysie Bollinger owns Bollinger Shipyards.
2) Bollinger Shipyards makes its money building Coast Guard Cutters.
3) The decision as to WHO builds those Coast Guard Cutters rests in large part in the hands of the Homeland Security and Defense Committees.
4) Besides being on the Energy Committee, Landrieu is also on the Homeland Security and Defense Committees, and probably the only reason that Bollinger got those contracts was because he paid off Landrieu.
5) Not only will Bollinger endorse Landrieu publicly, despite once being the chair of the Louisiana Republican Party [back when it was totally toothless]; he would perform several chapters of Krafft-Ebbing’s textbook on her on nationwide TV if it would keep his contracts.

Subotai Bahadur on April 28, 2014 at 1:53 PM

Louisiana can’t afford to lose Mary Landrieu,” Bollinger says through a Louisiana accent. “She’s chairman of the Energy Committee, the most powerful position a person can have for Louisiana.”

Yeah, Mr. Bollinger. I mean, all her power was key to getting the Keystone pipeline project approved so that all that oil could be pumped down to the Gul…… oh, wait………..

If you truly believe this about Mary Landrieu, then you deserve all the heightened regulations, enhanced red tape and continued economic stagnation that comes with Democratic Party control of government.

Boysie Bollinger: ObamaCare? What’s that?

Bitter Clinger on April 28, 2014 at 1:57 PM

to be fair to the gentleman in the ad, it is the pragmatic thing to do. If she loses it’s good. If she wins it is better for him and his business. For all we know maybe he got a call at midnight, “Nice little shipyard you got there, it would be a shame if anything would happen to it…” It may even have not been as subtle. Unfortunately in our political climate it is a sad state of affairs when you can’t even count on the GOP do do the right thing. Sometimes you do things to look out for yourself.

Democrat

Unfortunately, with all the handouts and bailouts, that’s proven to me a majority lately.

Exit Question: Mr. Bollinger, What happened to your integrity? Is it so easily bought? Then it must not have come at a very high price.
