NRA chief: “The media’s intentional corruption of the truth is an abomination”

posted at 7:21 pm on April 25, 2014 by Erika Johnsen

For your second NRA-related post of the day and a good closeout thread for a calm Friday: That shadowy, depraved group of ill-begotten über-influence (because of, you know, their casual 5 million members) to which the liberal media often darkly refers as the “gun lobby” is having its annual meeting in Indianapolis this weekend — and VP Wayne LaPierre wasn’t pulling punches this afternoon, via RCP:

Rather than expose government dishonesty and scandal, the media elites whitewash it all,” he said. “Move on, they tell us, there’s nothing to see here, don’t worry. One of America’s greatest threats is a national news media that fails to provide a level playing field in this country for the truth. Americans just like you are on to that fact.  They know now it’s all entertainment, it’s ratings, its personal celebrity, it’s the next sensational story. And the deliberate spinning and purposeful use of words and language. Truth be damned to advance their own agenda. And here’s how you know they’re lying, they still call themselves journalists. They’ve never been honest about the NRA. They hate us just for saying out loud and sticking up for what we believe in our hearts. As if we have no right to do that. So they try to ridicule us into oblivion or shame us into submission. But their moral indignation should be directed right into their own makeup mirrors. The media’s intentional corruption of the truth is an abomination.

One of America’s greatest threats is a national news media that fails to provide a level playing field in this country for the truth.

And now the LSM will claim he has painted a target on them and has given a green light to those evil NRA members to take them out.

The NRA chief is correct.

We got the guns, you got your good intentions and that feel good spirit. Don’t need the MSM’s blessing.

Our supposedly conservative politicians should speak that directly. They would win if they would.

I’m with you. Republicans don’t need to be hyperbolic. They need to be sharper. It’s a party of Milt Milquetoasts.

That’s why I like Cruz. He comes at every speaking opportunity, regardless of the forum or format, as if he’s four to five steps ahead of the other side.

Right, we lost the last one because we were afraid to address the big issues, and allowed ourselves to get dragged off into the weeds.

Meh. He wasn’t nearly as brash and bold as he should have been. A real statement would have the media up in arms demanding his resignation. I’m not hearing any of that. Weak tea.

He is shocked, absolutely shocked, that the usual leftist suspects in the MSM are lying, distorting the truth, and spreading propaganda…. again.

farsighted on April 25, 2014 at 8:00 PM

Right on, Wayne! Trouble is, it’s probably too late. The indoctrination has been going on for several generations; the Professional Left has long controlled academia, and Schools of ‘Journalism’ have been leftest propaganda mills for many years. ‘Feelings’, not objective truth, rule the day. True accomplishment and earned wisdom have been relegated to the rear of the bus by PC crapola and flavor of the day celebrity. Lies are the new truth. The politics of personal destruction trump truth in messaging. Sociopathic demagogues spewing profane effluvia control the halls of Congress, while while our ‘CIC’ seeks the destruction of the country from within. I could go on, but I’m getting sick to my soul. Save yer guns and ammo. I’ts going to be a bumpy revolution…

Not surprising. Chilling, sickening, and appalling, yes, but definitely not surprising.

If there were any doubt that free speech in the US is dead, the ability of the armed enforcers of Tea Party Fascism to brazenly intimidate the media with no retribution should put it to rest forever.

There’s more corruption in this country nowadays than I ever could have imagined. It’s not just the media, it’s everywhere you look. It’s in the highest government offices, it’s on Wall Street, lobbyists, etc., etc., etc.

KOOLAID2 on April 25, 2014 at 7:55 PM

You are 100% correct. We know politicians lie, cheat, and are corrupt. This is universal the world over. It is the “profession” of journalism which is pure evil. Journalists have become, and arguably now blatantly out of the closet, the purveyors of all lies. They pass themselves off as the “arbiters and disseminators of news and information” when in fact they are nothing more than a megaphone for a social philosophy (liberalism inspired by Marxism) and the mouthpieces of the Democrat party.

Open registration irradiates HA with troll fallout.

But then, slowly, over time, the fallout decays, through attrition and bannings.

The unknown at this point in time is the half-life of a new troll — or of an old previously banned troll using a new name — on HA.

If Watergate or.the Lewinski scandals were to happen today in this administration, only conservative news outlets would try and get to the bottom of it and report the truth. And then it would be ignored by the rest of the media and those who reported it would be called racists.

It it real or is it…..?

Does it really matter, considering Poe’s Law?

Classic trolling — in which someone takes seriously playing the role of an extremist political adversary — had its day, for reasons I still don’t quite understand.

But in modern internet times, what’s the point? Why bother when the real thing is so readily available?

I treat them all the same.

Cheshire_Kat on April 25, 2014 at 10:52 PM

And here’s how you know they’re lying, they still call themselves journalists.

It was true in the Nixon administration.

It was obvious in the Reagan administration.

It was even more blatant in the Clinton administration.

It was impossible to ignore in the Bush administration.

They’re nothing but cheerleaders for the Obama administration.

Sometime during the Bush administration, the media finally stopped denying their bias, but they still insisted they were covering the story fairly in spite of their obvious preference for the liberals.

Now, they’re practically admitting their goal is to help one side win over the other.

The NRA does better political organizing than the R’s or the D’s and have now been the ones on the ball for two elections in my neck of the woods.

If they form a political party, I’ll join up as they at least have a grasp of grassroots politics. Something neither of the two major parties can figure out these days.

ajacksonian on April 26, 2014 at 7:17 AM

Why do they lie? Simple: because the truth will set us free!

Don L on April 26, 2014 at 7:51 AM

What the media fail to understand is that, once you lose your integrity, what do you have left? Wayne LaPierre is saying what many people know in their hearts. NBC, with the poster child for a corrupt media MSNBC, are trying to figure out why putting David Gregory as the moderator of Meet the Press isn’t working. I don’t know what they paid the consultant but I could have told that why he wasn’t the guy for a lot less.

bflat879 on April 26, 2014 at 7:52 AM

…grassroots politics. Something neither of the two major parties can figure out these days.

Maybe it’s because the two major parties are the enemy of the grassroot citizens who would dare to have real input into their own governance?

Don L on April 26, 2014 at 7:54 AM

Our news media used to be known as the Fifth Estate. It long ago became a fifth column.
Truth is dead, long live newspeak.

Maybe it’s because the two major parties are the enemy of the grassroot citizens who would dare to have real input into their own governance?

Don L on April 26, 2014 at 7:54 AM

It is by that design, yes.

A bit over half those eligible to vote showed up last Presidential cycle. Even if you get a ‘landslide’ that means you are getting only 26-27% of the vote from those eligible to vote. That isn’t a mandate no matter which ‘party’ wins: it is a loss for the Nation.

ajacksonian on April 26, 2014 at 10:43 AM

I’m completely underwhelmed by this whining. Doesn’t everybody listen to talk radio and watch Fox News? Or do we have separate statistics for threads about “MSNBC and its 3 viewers” and for gun control and War in Christmas?

I support gun ownership although I don’t own a gun myself. I’ve just never been too much into them. Maybe I should be. Anyway, I’d rather read more pieces like this — note that I don’t necessarily endorse every single idea in this piece, — and much less of “whaaaa… Teh Media yuk er guns!”

PBH on April 26, 2014 at 10:44 PM

He’s correct. But, I hope they start looking at Democrats who think it’s ok for them to be gun owners but not conservatives. Time actions speak as loud as words.

As for the media, the current crop, products of leftist, weak-kneed universities will never change. Just look at the media in Venezuela. Cowards, far too many. Or, unfortunately, murdered.

MN J on April 27, 2014 at 6:08 PM

A wide majority of the so called people in journalism in America today are in fact Democrat activist with bylines.

America may survive the presidency of Barack Hussein Soetoro Obama, but can it survive those who elected him? Twice?

I have doubts that the Republcan Party (with its present string of leaders) will be capable of fixing any of the degredations we have now, knowing there will be more in the next 1000 days coming from King Putt and his minions.

The forth estate is fundamentally FUBAR.
I don’t see any number of them a near equivalent to H. L. Mencken (to grab them collectively by the scruff of their necks and dope slap some sense into them) on the horizon, so our country will suffer for a long time because of their corruption and total failure to DO THEIR JOBS.

And Wayne’s line about journalist is a classic that will NEVER be reported in the LSM … and that is the pathos of our present situation.
