Video: How to get kicked out of a Clay Aiken fundraiser

posted at 8:31 am on April 19, 2014 by Jazz Shaw

In case you hadn’t heard the news, American Idol star, singer and actor Clay Aiken is running for Congress in North Carolina’s second congressional district. He’s hoping to take on (and take down) current GOP Representative Renee Ellmers. While Aiken’s success could allow him to largely self-fund the effort, politics still requires you to get out there and do some fundraising, pressing the flesh with the local donors and power brokers. But as the following video shows, don’t bother stopping by if you’re a Republican. You’re likely to get an icy – and expletive laden – welcome. You can just see Aiken in the background as the clip begins, though he’s quickly blocked from view by some looming thugs with a lot to say.

I’ll preface this with the necessary warnings. NC-17 language ahead, and so much of it packed into a barely more than 30 second clip that I can’t even put up a transcript on the pages of Hot Air. So it’s not for the easily offended and put your headphones on if the kids are around.

My, my… that’s some awfully salty language and unfriendly behavior, given the rather friendly and gentle nature that the candidate seems to generally try to project. This isn’t exactly the tone one wants to set for their nascent campaign.

I’m not sure what the Democrats were hoping to accomplish by luring Aiken into this race. Yes, he’s a celebrity with a lot of name recognition, but this is still listed as an R+11 district. And it’s not as if this particular election strategy has worked for them in the recent past, either. (Just ask those star elected officials Elizabeth Colbert Busch and Ashley Judd.)

Well, if this doesn’t work out, Aiken still has other opportunities to fall back on. This review of his turn on the stage in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat shows that he’s still got a lot to offer. And here’s the visual from the play. Best of luck, Clay!

Lets hope that this isnt the choice that the people there face, because Ellmers is hardly better or better mannered than Aikens thugs.

Meh. His political career is over before it started. You’re known by the company you keep. One commercial made from this and Ellmers can lay in bed.

I’m not sure what Dems were thinking on this one, either. The only reason I can see that they would do this is that NC-08 has a higher percentage of LGBT population than the rest of the state, NC-02 is adjacent to NC-08, and….well, that’s as far as it makes sense.

Aiken has two other candidates running against him for the Dem slot.

Ellmers has proven to be a huge mistake. Very pro-amnesty. Trying to sell it as being what the people of NC need. What the constituents of NC-02 want doesn’t carry much weight with her these days. Protecting the jobs of legal citizens in her district isn’t high on her list of priorities. She has a challenger in Frank Roche.

IF the Dems are thinking that they can rally the LGBT community in NC-08 to put boots on the ground in NC-02 for Clay, and by blame-and-shame tactics, convince voters in that district to vote for Clay…then they don’t know the people living in that district any better than Ellmers does.

One of the lines in it was “80% of the prostitutes in Singapore have venereal disease. When Renee Ellmers ran for Congress in 2010, I personally took her around and introduced her to conservative bloggers. Back then, she loved the Tea Party, adored grassroots conservatives, and was opposed to amnesty. Now after four years in D.C., she has turned into Lindsey Graham in a dress.

So creepy to see the right finally figure this out after decades of defending police violence just on principle.

libfreeordie on April 18, 2014 at 2:04 PM

…and yet this moron and those of his ilk want the police (along with the military and criminals) to be to the only ones with guns.

lol it’s back.

jawkneemusic on April 19, 2014 at 11:44 AM

In all fairness to Aiken himself…he should see this video and at least have an opportunity to address this particular incident.

Was it a private event?

libfreeordie on April 19, 2014 at 8:48 AM

If Aiken’s campaign rented out the entire bar, then yes…it’s considered a private event, and the organizers can have anyone ejected. But, if the bar was not completely rented out at the time, then only the bartender and/or manager/owner can ask or tell someone to leave.

Is HotAir/AP going to tackle this one, or does it not fit in with the agenda? Drudge has been ‘all over it’ so to speak.

. Now after four years in D.C., she has turned into Lindsey Graham in a dress.

lynncgb on April 19, 2014 at 11:01 AM

I heard they just trade uniforms in the morning and evening; he flounces home in skirt and heels, and she goes home wearing the pants.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that in Obama’s America, of course.

Was it a private event?

You can always up the attendance at a gay soiree simply by turning over the stools. But you knew that.

Odd…I don’t remember GOP administrations buying up billions of rounds of ammo, thousands of Soviet-era weapons and dozens of armored vehicles for Federal agencies (including the Dept. of Education and the Social Security Administration)?

They’re aggressively going after the low-informations. It put Obama over the top last time.

WhatSlushfund on April 19, 2014 at 9:11 AM

The IRS oppression put Obama over the top (or, more accurately, pushed Romney down under) last time.

What “agenda” does HotAir have?

And what does that story you linked…sad as it is…have to do with Clay Aiken’s campaign? Note: I don’t live in his state, but if I did I certainly wouldn’t vote for him.
