Video: Democrat’s “War on Fox News” turns into hilarious rout; Update: Missed filing deadline?

posted at 8:01 am on April 11, 2014 by Ed Morrissey

Eric Cantor faces a challenge in November’s midterm election, but if his opponent ends up being Mike Dickinson, Cantor can worry about … well, almost anything else. Dickinson, a Democrat looking for the nomination in VA-07, has pledged to use his campaign to wage “war” on the Tea Party, the NRA, and Fox News. Greta van Susteren offered him a battle last night, and it didn’t take long for Dickinson to turn his war on Fox News into a rout. Via Twitchy, this is must-see TV:

Yes, you just heard a Congressional candidate being forced to admit he lied about his resumé on national television. Dickinson turned out to have no intellectual substance at all on his other arguments either, unable to square the reality of his own desire to tell it like it is with the right of Tea Party supporters to do the same. Greta van Susteren has a delightful time dismantling Dickinson and his “war,” and the only one who doesn’t seem to realize what a national joke he’d become is Dickinson himself. He tweeted this out afterward, apparently believing he’d scored a point or two in the interview:

Indeed. Dickinson agreed to appear again for another battle of wits with van Susteren in the future, and it may be fun to see whether he comes completely unarmed again.

Update: Mediaite discovers that Dickinson didn’t actually make the deadline to run for VA-07, at least not as a Democrat:

During his appearances, Fox labeled Dickinson as “(D-VA), Running For Congress.”

Just one problem with that: He’s not. At least not as a Democrat.

On Thursday morning, the Virginia 7th Congressional District Democratic Committee announced that it would cancel this year’s nominating convention, because no one had filed to run against incumbent Republican House Majority Leader Eric Cantor.

The filing deadline — Thursday, April 10th, at 5:00 p.m. — passed by without any forms submitted by Dickinson. A source tells Mediaite that he informed the nominating committee at “last minute” that he did not intend to file.

None of that was disclosed by Dickinson when he appeared on Fox News last night.

No, but his Twitter bio still states “Liberal Democrat campaigning for the nomination to unseat Eric Cantor in the 7th Congressional District of Virginia!”And, of course, this adds another layer of irony to a subsequent tweet:

At least most of them know how to fill out paperwork by deadline. (via Doug Mataconis)

I’m pretty sure we can make book on that. Larry Flynt’s errand boy will never match or best wits with Greta van Susteren.

And Mike Dickinson isn’t going to admit it, even though he claims to tell it like it is, but you don’t get elected to office in Virginia by emphasizing your ties to strip clubs and Larry Flynt.

I had to stop halfway through the clip. I’m sure it got worse, but that was cringeworthy. What’s sad is most Democrats probably could be put in similar situations by other reporters in interviews or GOP politicians in debates. You hear how absolutely braindead Debbie What-a-dumb Schmuck sounds when someone actually challenges her and doesn’t allow her to just spout talking points.

The difference is that most libs aren’t normally challenged in this way. I will give the dude props for at least going on FoxNews. A lot of Dems and libs won’t even do that. But this shows you why so many are dependent on the drive-by media shield that’s been erected around them. Seriously, if Obama had been forced to do just a handful of interviews like this back in 2008, he never would’ve come close to sniffing the Democrat nomination.

Yeah but with this slimeball it was like shooting fish in a barrel. She lead him down the path of talking about how dishonest Fox News and the Tea Party are then she pounced on his bogus claims about being a CEO; he admits that but talks about telling it like it is, and she produces his “Meet Mike” info that conveniently omits his career in strip clubs; He says that it’s all out there on his Twitter account and she’s right there with the fact his account was shut down for his comments……..

Like I posted above, painful to watch. Like watching a cow being lead to the slaughter- completely oblivious to what was about to happen.

Happy Nomad on April 11, 2014 at 8:37 AM

Because Fox News is responsible for every thing that is wrong with this nation’s leadership, including EVERY liberal progressive DEMOCRAT that has contributed to these tax and spend socialist and their big government agenda tearing this nation to pieces.

Dickinson should be a prime candidate for another “shoe-shot”, since Democrats have no defense for their actions or their despicable track records over the past 5-6 years.

BTW Mr. Dickinson, Fox News won’t report this, but I will:

“I do not have data to give you right now in terms of who exactly was previously uninsured,” she said in response to a question. She said the agency is collecting that data from insurers and will share it at a future date.

Barack Obama/Valerie Jarrett to Sebelius: Look, we know you’re not completely responsible for the disastrous roll-out of our Federal power-grab of the health insurance industry—that ONLY DEMOCRATS VOTED FOR. (Barry: and I’m tired of hearing about Michelle’s friends ineptly spending millions on a failed website), so here’s the plan to protect Democrats in the upcoming election—first, we will waive and delay all mandates that will anger businesses, unions, and individuals who have discovered there is no $2,500 average savings, or the probability that insurance companies will raise their premiums far beyond “our predictions”. Second, we want you to stay on until some time in April, then your replacement can delay reporting the actual numbers until after November. Third, we’re going to report that your computer has been compromised, and your hard-drive has lost all emails, (public and private), that might suggest this whole campaign is still a train wreck.

See how it (your government) works? ~ Rovin (cross-posted at Politico)

Galtian on April 11, 2014 at 9:35 AM

After the execrable comments by Mr Dickinson regarding gun owners, and more specifically NRA members, I accessed Mr Cantor’s website and contributed $50 to his campaign. And I don’t even know where VA-07 IS. (Virginia, right? Next to DC, and the ocean or something, I think).

I made a point to leave a message on Mr Dickinson’s site thanking him for his comments, which led to my contribution. A bar of soap has more intellectual firepower than this buffoon.

orangemtl on April 11, 2014 at 9:36 AM

Now, if anyone at the RNC is paying attention, which I doubt, it would be worthwhile to make Dickinson the face of the Democratic Party for the 2014 elections.

We know that the Democrats are going to try to keep the “war on women” idea alive because they’ve had some success with it. It could be a little more difficult to do that if people knew they were trying to run a consultant to Larry Flynt and strip clubs for Congress. (And a bonus, that the guy lied and claimed to be the CEO of a chain of strip clubs.)

The guy looks like the sleaze ball that he is. What a maroon.

A less intelligent version of Alan Grayson. But to the people Grayson or Dickinson care about, just going on Fox News and making disparaging remarks about conservatives and/or the groups they belong to is winning, which is why Dickinson not coming back to reality any time soon.

He could have gone on with Gretta and make armpit noises for 10 minutes and he’d get followers saying he ‘won’, just because he did something naughty in Rupert’s House of Evil (i.e. — past Virginia congressional candidate buffoon Krystal Ball parlayed he willingness to say dumb things and her looks into an MSNBC gig, after appearing on Fox’s ‘Red Eye’ with Gutfeld. Dickinson will never get into Greg’s ‘leg chair’ but MSNBC will always have room for a liberal buffoon who exhibits no shame when making outlandish statements).

Imagine how different the world would had this guy primaried against Obama in ’08. The Donks would have been SO much MORE hoodwinked and bamboozled… Obama would still be a stinking Senator.

He should primary Hilary in ’16. She’d never know what hit her, and the lofo voters would eat it up.

I watched this last night. Greta shredded the guy and wasn’t even trying hard. She just had a fun time with him. He didn’t know what hit him.

The guy reminds me of Bobcat Goldthwaite’s character “Zed” in Police Academy 2. That weird noise he makes after almost every sentence, HILARIOUS!!!!!

The difference is that most libs aren’t normally challenged in this way. I will give the dude props for at least going on FoxNews….

He is so lacking in self awareness that he doesn’t know how foolish he looked.

Kinda like a completely tone deaf karaoke singer who never misses a chance to get on stage to embarrass himself.

So no, he get’s no props for that performance.
