Video: The April Fools prank heard ’round the world

posted at 5:21 pm on April 7, 2014 by Allahpundit

To cleanse the palate. There are vids, there are viral vids, and then there’s this, which has supernova’d to the tune of 3.8 million views since Saturday as of 1 p.m. ET today. Watch as this poor bastard transforms from disciplined teacher to unwitting malefactor in the “war on women” to sheepish butt of his adoring pupils’ japes in the span of two minutes.

If this had played out the same way but hadn’t been a joke, it’d have 10 million views by now and we’d be buried under an avalanche of online think pieces about privacy, technology, autonomy, and how they “intersect.” Never have I loved April Fools more.

Best kind of April Fool’s prank. Egg on someone’s face, no one’s genuinely hurt, and all participants get a good laugh out of it in the end.

gryphon202 on April 7, 2014 at 5:23 PM

It was actually refreshing to see students and teachers laughing together in good plain fun.

Oh, Gaia, not ANOTHER Red Line, Mr. President…we’re running out of Ukraine…!

What a sissy professor,

he should ‘ve used this opportunity to educate the herd about
the girl’s right to free abortions and free birth control under ObamaCAIR . Instead , he giggles like a 7 yr old girl
:O

burrata on April 7, 2014 at 5:33 PM

Given that

1) he was totally taken in by the prank

2) reacted with concern and embarrassment at the call

3) was great upon learning it was an April Fools joke

4) did not know he was being captured on a cell phone video

5) was a class act throughout

Good on him, also good on his class … I hope he is as great a teacher as he is a human.

Grinch on April 7, 2014 at 5:33 PM

Those are the kind of professors you remember.

V7_Sport on April 7, 2014 at 5:34 PM

This was awesome. The Professor handled it like a good sport.

Excellent!

Thanks Allah ;)

Perfectly executed, terrific results.

That was fun :-)

MJBrutus on April 7, 2014 at 5:41 PM

Very good. The students embarrass the teacher, instead of the other way around. I bet he will never make students put their calls on speakerphone again.

He should throw a ringing cellphone out the window.

You missed the part where he thought his teaching career was over for publicly shaming a pregnant girl.

War on…. something! I’m a Leftist, I’m enraged at this interruption of our agenda in the schools in the name of apolitical and non-utilitarian humor.

rrpjr on April 7, 2014 at 5:47 PM

As someone who both plays them and gets played upon, I approve of this practical joke. So well done.

roy_batty on April 7, 2014 at 5:47 PM

I totally laughed for 30 seconds!
.
I bet this professor is one that the students will remember as having made a good impact on their lives.

ExpressoBold on April 7, 2014 at 5:50 PM

the girl did a good job! i would have started laughing before i finished talking… haha

great video! i’m glad the professor didn’t get angry.

Sachiko on April 7, 2014 at 5:54 PM

well done :)
and a good time was had by all :)

This is what happens when college education has no value to students. The professor treats them like high school students with silly rules and then the kids waste class time with practical jokes. If they were paying for this class out of pocket, the wasted time wouldn’t be very funny.

LeoMcNeil on April 7, 2014 at 5:57 PM

Punished with an imaginary baby.

OMG! Just saw that it is Aquinas College in Grand Rapids. Even funnier when you consider that the call from the pregnancy center is at a small Catholic college.

Yeah that’s a whole three minutes of instructional time they’ll never get back- might scar the little snowflakes for life.

El_Terrible on April 7, 2014 at 5:59 PM

In Western Michigan? This time of year people of color generally run the range from pasty white to extremely pasty white.

I don’t get it…What’s the joke?

JohnBrown on April 7, 2014 at 6:17 PM

KOOLAID2 on April 7, 2014 at 6:21 PM

You know he is a good dude otherwise students wouldn’t have wanted to prank him.

JohnBrown on April 7, 2014 at 6:17 PM

The joke is if she were really pregnant, she would have gotten an abortion, paid for by you and me.

Unless she was Sandra “Bury-Me-In-A-’Y’-Shaped-Coffin” Fluke, in which case she would have had a wheelbarrow full of condoms sitting next to her, paid for by you and me.

Nah, I think he’s on to something but I don’t connect it with the cost of education.

I remember going into a high school in Maine a few years ago to do some volunteer work with an extracurricular activity the school sponsored on the weekends and was surprised to see seniors playing a game of Duck, Duck, Goose in the hallways.

Cleombrotus on April 7, 2014 at 8:04 PM

Yeah, but poor little April will have this video hanging over her head for her entire life.

Cute, I guess. But someday, somehow, everyone of us is going to be caught doing or saying something idiotic by a sneaky cell phone videographer, probably putting our careers at risk. I hate hidden camera “pranks”.

Too funny!

Cindy Munford on April 8, 2014 at 12:32 AM

I read more on this story — the professor said his initial thought when this was going on was, “Why isn’t she taking it off speakerphone?” He now has a new policy that if the phone rings you turn it off.

And the kids thought it was appropriate afterwards because the prof played an April Fools joke on them by telling them they were getting a pop quiz before this happened. :-)

ScoopPC11 on April 8, 2014 at 5:36 AM

Pretty sad…

The last intelligible thing I got from the vid was her saying “name him….”, the rest is garbled and laughter. The next best part was CurtZHP comment, ‘“Bury-Me-In-A-’Y’-Shaped-Coffin” Fluke’.

My only question, ‘Why the hell does a student have a cell phone ringing in a class?’ No respect for mom and dad paying the high price of tuition? Is that what will be in the work place in four years?
