Obama’s chickens come home to roost

posted at 10:41 am on March 31, 2014 by Bruce McQuain

Michael Goodwin at the NY Post writes up a pretty damning summary of Barack Obama’s time in office as President of the United States.  One of the primary criticisms of candidate Obama was that he’d never really done anything of note.  He’d never run a company or tried to meet a payroll, deal with government regulations, etc.  He was, critics cautioned, a politically driven empty suit.  Even his experience in politics was minimal.  Every political office he held he used as a platform to run for the next highest office, accomplishing little or nothing at each stop.

Those are his “chickens” and they’re certainly coming home to roost:

Obama’s sixth year in the White House is shaping up as his worst, and that’s saying something. He’s been in the Oval Office so long that it is obscene to blame his problems on George W. Bush, the weather or racism. Obama owns the world he made, or more accurately, the world he tried to remake.

Nothing important has worked as promised, and there is every reason to believe the worst is yet to come. The president’s casual remark the other day that he worries about “a nuclear weapon going off in Manhattan” inadvertently reflected the fear millions of Americans have about his leadership. Not necessarily about a bomb, but about where he is taking the country.

Anyone who looks objectively at these past 6 years has difficulty in saying anything good about the time this administration has been in power. Clint Eastwood’s “empty chair” analogy has never been more apt.  The lack of real governing experience has left us adrift in a hostile world:

The view from his faculty lounge has no space for reality. Anything that doesn’t fit the grand plan is dismissed as illegitimate. So while global hot spots multiply and the world grows dangerously unstable, the president still plans to slash the military.

Government programs such as Medicare, Medicaid and EITC lose hundreds of billions to waste, fraud and abuse, but this administration chooses to balance the budget on the backs of the only institution that is Constitutionally mandated for the defense of the country during a time of extreme danger.  Cognitive dissonance of the highest order.

And his “legacy” piece of legislation, forced through the Democratically controlled congress in the face of popular protest, has been a dismal failure to this point:

ObamaCare is the domestic expression of the president’s ineptitude. The law that was supposed to fix health care has become a problem for millions, and now enjoys mere 26 percent approval, a poll finds. It is proving so unworkable that the White House has given up defending it as written and instead simply changes key provisions when they prove impossible to implement or politically inconvenient.

Change No. 38 came when officials extended the March 31 deadline for signing up. Never mind that those same officials said recently there would be no extension, and that the law wouldn’t allow it.

Presto — the limits on his power are moot because the president says so. Meanwhile, aides claim they don’t know how many of the 6 million who enrolled actually paid for insurance..

Perhaps the most damning quote from Goodwin’s piece is this one which succinctly sums up the Obama experience thus far:

A Caesar at home and a Chamberlain abroad, Obama manages to simultaneously provoke fury and ridicule. He bullies critics here while shrinking from adversaries there.

He divides the country and unites the world against us, diminishing the nation in both ways. His reign of error can’t end soon enough, nor can it end well.

The country must weather a little over 2 more years of this awful presidency and hope it survives it somehow.  If it survives it, one has to hope that upon reflection, the voters will realize that electing a president isn’t a beauty contest nor is it a venue within which to make a social statement.  “The first” this or that are not as important as the ability of the candidate to govern competently.  And, it is is certainly not a position in which the incumbent should be engaged in “on the job training”.

Hopefully these lessons have been learned and, in 2016, we’ll see a resurgence of common sense among the voting public.

One small problem with this article: Obama isn’t cutting the military’s budget, only the number of people employed by the military as we modernize and come to rely on technology more.

In fact, his budget proposal requests a level of defense spending that’s actually higher than the sequestration levels set by Republicans.

Punditry like this is really irritating because said pundit assumes that since Obama is President then Obama wants what he thinks is best for the country.

That is a false assumption.

Obama is a schemer, a scammer, and a fraud. He wants the luxury life style, surrounded by sycophants. He wants the money to buy power. It’s nothing more than a common street con man’s game. Sure he says the words, but the ideology he advances is inimical to everything the United States was founded on.

And still the pundits line up to apologize for Obama’s ‘miss steps’ and explain away the results.

Obama bragged about ‘fundamentally transforming’ the United States, and that can only mean changing the country from what it was into something else.

Joseph OHenry on March 31, 2014 at 11:05 AM

Killary lost the nomination because in the heirarchy of racial and gender politics black beats having a vajayjay. Do you really think that Killary, a vile woman that has all the warmth and intelligence of a slurpee, will not generate the kind of enthusiasm that the rat-eared wonder generated. Elementary schools will not be named for her even before she takes office. She will not get the Nobel Peace Prize for covering up the Benghazi attacks. They will not be bringing in cruise ships to handle the overflow crowds for her inaguration.

In short, Killary has her supporters but it is a far different dynamic than what the rat-eared one could tap into. Blacks are not going to be coming out in droves to vote for some cracker- even if she is a female.

The liberals own every socio-political pressure point in the nation, save maybe Fox News and AM talk radio. We are living in the world that they have made – and they, the liberals themselves, hate it. They hate their creation; they agitate against everything that they have caused. Their intentions have truly paved the road to Hell. Their outcomes are a hideous oppression. Utopian societies always go there: always have, and always will. It is the liberal who is too blind to reality to overcome his/her own self-righteous screeching.

There is no and never was a man behind the curtain. Barack Obama is a shallow, conceited, poorly educated man; his oratory is empty, his sincerity is absent; and his character is mimetic. He plays at various roles (community organizer, intellectual, law lecturer, state legislator, Senator, President) but fulfills none. He is not capable of fulfilling any. To traduce Gertrude Stein’s phrase, he is our Oakland President; there is no there there.

Lanceman on March 31, 2014 at 11:26 AM I know people say Obama plans this blah blah. But I have issues with that yes he is wrecking a lot of things but he is destroying himself and liberals in the process. Obama wants us to think he can scheme like a Francis Underwood truth is he is inept at that to. Come to think of it even his executive overreaches have been either useless or ineptly signed out of the blue the guy can’t govern at all much less make executive orders work.

Any good reporter would pick up on it. obama has NOT freed any one people.

Please show me some empirical evidence of that. The fact that another incompetent, Hillary, leads anybody kinda disproves that statement. So do the comments from NYT and WaPo.

We will survive Obama… We survived much worse than him in terms of events and Presidents… We survived the Civil War, WW I, WW II, the Great Depression, FDR and LBJ who are vastly worse than Obama when it came to the expansion of government power and the Welfare State…

Most people tend to look at history from the time they were born and on onward, it is human nature… So it is easy to see how dark it is because of Obama, but historically we had much darker periods and we survived them very well…

Hopefully these lessons have been learned and, in 2016, we’ll see a resurgence of common sense among the voting public.

When Obama first took up residence in the White House, he called a historian to the Oval Office and told him what he wanted his ‘legacy’ to be. Like all small men of little character, Obama believed he could shape history to suit himself through obfuscation, lies, and manipulation of facts, documents, and people.

However, History will not be denied. Careers will be built on dissecting every moment of his presidency. Every document, his family, their friends, his administration, their family and friends, the staff, their family and friends, and every communication, will all be examined in the minutest detail. Documentaries will be made, papers will be published, and books will be written. All will be exposed and revealed eventually.

Obama has danced to the tune. In his ‘legacy’… the piper will be paid.

thatsafactjack on March 31, 2014 at 11:42 AM

“A Caesar at home and a Chamberlain abroad, Obama manages to simultaneously provoke fury and ridicule.”

That is a very powerful statement.

I take it to imply that Obama, as a stopped clock, isn’t even correct once per day.

It seems one would have to work very hard to screw it up that bad (?)

Tsar of Earth on March 31, 2014 at 11:43 AM

“Surviving the next few years” is to be taken literally. I said at the outset of this misbegotten presidency that he would be responsible for the deaths of millions. I hope I am wrong. But he is so catastrophically unqualified and so driven by bad faith (on a scale never imagined) that the potential for massive ruin (on a scale never seen) is shudderingly real.

No, nothing has worked as promised, and there is every reason to believe the worst is yet to come.

ss396 on March 31, 2014 at 11:22 AM

They only reason they hate their creation is that they haven’t been able to take it far enough towards their end goal.

In their minds, the problems aren’t because their vision / creation is morally, ethically, and intellectually bankrupt, but because of ‘stupid’ people opposing and limiting their ability to ‘fully implement’ their vision. THEY KNOW that their vision will bring utopia to all if they were permitted to fully and completely implement it….it all works out perfectly in theory. If it’s not working in reality, well, it’s because of external efforts being organized to stop the creation….not a problem with the vision.

That’s why at some point the progressives will have to make a decision – to either abandon their goals and vision, admitting that they are fundamentally flawed, or to toss Obama under the bus saying that he’s too incompetent to have successfully implemented their ‘perfect’ vision. The problem with the latter is how do you do that to the 1st African-American President and Chicago Messiah without being a racist?

Athos on March 31, 2014 at 11:48 AM

I’m not saying that Hillary would have been any better but she did try to warn us (and for her trouble she got accused of running a racist campaign.)

myiq2xu on March 31, 2014 at 10:49 AM

Bull.

Hillary has been part of this administration. She had her chance to put the ultimate distance between this president’s destructive policies and her point of view. Instead, she chose to help implement it and is on record as agreeing with the most destructive parts of President Obama’s agenda.

Electing Hillary would effectively be a third Obama term with a different occupant.

He bullies critics here while shrinking from adversaries there.

This, I think, is the worst part. His greatest worldly concern appears to have been over his political opponents. The “Barbarians at the Gates” don’t matter a bit compared to the impediments to Progressive Orthodoxy(TM). I’m wondering if he’s starting to wake up to the fact that the world is very different from how he has been dreaming it.

As a conservative, I do view some things on the Liberal agenda to result in the weakening of Western strengths; but it is always a strength that must resist worse things in the world than Liberalism itself. In that sense, Western Conservatism stands as a defense between Liberalism and “the Barbarians”. Yet some Liberals view Conservatives as the Barbarians; it’s like we’re a wall beyond which they can’t see.

In the 1950′s, such a threat would have carried genuine real weight. Now, however, after 50 years of virtually open and outright Marxism being taught in nearly every public school in America, what will be found in those papers, those documents, will be used to paint Obama as a visionary.

Think not? This was actually entered into the Congressional Record in 1963.

Congressional Record–Appendix, pp. A34-A35

January 10, 1963

Current Communist Goals

EXTENSION OF REMARKS OF HON. A. S. HERLONG, JR. OF FLORIDA

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Thursday, January 10, 1963

Mr. HERLONG. Mr. Speaker, Mrs. Patricia Nordman of De Land, Fla., is an ardent and articulate opponent of communism, and until recently published the De Land Courier, which she dedicated to the purpose of alerting the public to the dangers of communism in America.

At Mrs. Nordman’s request, I include in the RECORD, under unanimous consent, the following “Current Communist Goals,” which she identifies as an excerpt from “The Naked Communist,” by Cleon Skousen:

[From "The Naked Communist," by Cleon Skousen 1958]

CURRENT COMMUNIST GOALS

1. U.S. acceptance of coexistence as the only alternative to atomic war.

2. U.S. willingness to capitulate in preference to engaging in atomic war.

3. Develop the illusion that total disarmament [by] the United States would be a demonstration of moral strength.

4. Permit free trade between all nations regardless of Communist affiliation and regardless of whether or not items could be used for war.

5. Extension of long-term loans to Russia and Soviet satellites.

6. Provide American aid to all nations regardless of Communist domination.

7. Grant recognition of Red China. Admission of Red China to the U.N.

8. Set up East and West Germany as separate states in spite of Khrushchev’s promise in 1955 to settle the German question by free elections under supervision of the U.N.

9. Prolong the conferences to ban atomic tests because the United States has agreed to suspend tests as long as negotiations are in progress.

10. Allow all Soviet satellites individual representation in the U.N.

11. Promote the U.N. as the only hope for mankind. If its charter is rewritten, demand that it be set up as a one-world government with its own independent armed forces. (Some Communist leaders believe the world can be taken over as easily by the U.N. as by Moscow. Sometimes these two centers compete with each other as they are now doing in the Congo.)

12. Resist any attempt to outlaw the Communist Party.

13. Do away with all loyalty oaths.

14. Continue giving Russia access to the U.S. Patent Office.

15. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.

16. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.

17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers’ associations. Put the party line in textbooks.

18. Gain control of all student newspapers.

19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.

20. Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-review assignments, editorial writing, policymaking positions.

21. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures.

22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to “eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms.”

23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. “Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art.”

24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them “censorship” and a violation of free speech and free press.

25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.

26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as “normal, natural, healthy.”

27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a “religious crutch.”

28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of “separation of church and state.”

29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.

30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the “common man.”

31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the “big picture.” Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over.

32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture–education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.

33. Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation of the Communist apparatus.

34. Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities.

35. Discredit and eventually dismantle the FBI.

36. Infiltrate and gain control of more unions.

37. Infiltrate and gain control of big business.

38. Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand [or treat].

39. Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals.

40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.

41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents.

42. Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American tradition; that students and special-interest groups should rise up and use ["]united force["] to solve economic, political or social problems.

43. Overthrow all colonial governments before native populations are ready for self-government.

44. Internationalize the Panama Canal.

45. Repeal the Connally reservation so the United States cannot prevent the World Court from seizing jurisdiction [over domestic problems. Give the World Court jurisdiction] over nations and individuals alike.

This is not fiction, it is not hyperbolic rhetoric. Most American’s are still comforting themselves with the lie that it Can’t happen here. Sorry, it not only can, it already has.

If History judges Barack Obama and finds him lacking, it will only do so hundreds of years in the future, kind of like someone today examining Nero.
