Video: Old man yells at cloud

posted at 4:01 pm on March 13, 2014 by Allahpundit

In which the Grandpa Simpson of the Senate utters the word “radical” 21 times in less than seven minutes.

It has, alas, come to this:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Thursday accused Republicans of holding up crucial assistance to Ukraine in order to protect the Koch brothers.

Reid tied the billionaire brothers who have bankrolled conservative causes to GOP demands that language delaying the Internal Revenue Service’s regulation of non-profit political advocacy groups be added to the Ukraine package…

“It’s hard for me to comprehend how with a clear conscience they could say, ‘Ukrainians, we probably can’t help you because we’re trying to protect the Koch brothers,’” he said on Thursday. “And not only that, they’re saying to the American people that protecting the Koch brothers is more important than helping our country.”

What’s the strategy here? And don’t tell me “he’s trying to rev up the Democratic base.” They did the same thing in 2010, hyperventilating over secret “foreign money” and the Chamber of Commerce (ironically, now a Democratic ally on amnesty), and they got roundly destroyed at the polls for their trouble. No one cares enough about this to make their vote turn on it; if you’re a liberal who hates the Kochs with a blinding passion, you’ve got a thousand other issues that’ll get you down to the voting booth with or without Reid’s Koch binge. Granted, demagoging the Kochs might squeeze an extra nickel from lefty donors, but surely not so much that it’s worth the Senate majority leader droning on repeatedly about this for weeks on end. If this is part of a party-driven strategy to hit liberals in their wallets, why on earth would you farm it out to Harry Reid instead of to Elizabeth Warren, whom the left loves and whose leadership on this subject would inevitably be amplified by breathless media treating it as a sign that she might run in 2016?

If, for whatever reason, they didn’t want Warren to take the lead on this, you would think they’d at least want someone besides Reid, who’s known for unusually shameless demagoguery among political media and whose whining is therefore more easily discounted. Maybe this guy simply pulled rank and demanded the job himself. Maybe he’s anticipating a tough reelection bid against a strong opponent in Brian Sandoval in 2016 and figures there’s no time like the present to start mega-pandering to the left. He can’t save the Democrats in November but maybe he can save himself.

Riddle me this, lefties…who is worth more: The Koch Brothers…or Warren Buffet, George Soros and Richard Branson?

Who spends more campaign money almost two-to-one from individual, private donations: Republicans or Democrats?

Money is the root of all evil…unless it supports leftists, right liberal hypocrites?

Oh, and Reid and Pelosi should both be on heavy antipsychotic meds.

The Really Big Money? Not the Kochs

Resist We Much on March 13, 2014 at 4:19 PM

Mr. Reid was quite agitated on the Senate floor about “unlimited money,” by which he must have been referring to the $4.4 billion that unions had spent on politics from 2005 to 2011 alone, according to this newspaper. The Center for Responsive Politics’ list of top all-time donors from 1989 to 2014 ranks Koch Industries No. 59. Above Koch were 18 unions, which collectively spent $620,873,623 more than Koch Industries ($18 million). Even factoring in undisclosed personal donations by the Koch brothers, they are a rounding error in union spending.

I read the entire article you posted. Now what we need is McConnell(LOL) to take to the Senate Floor and read the entire article from your blog. Well, I know, I know, we’ll have to find someone with courage, as McConnell works best behind closed doors. Surely, we have a Senator willing to demand equal time in the interest of public service.

“Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.” – Saul Alinksy

It’s about appealing to base emotion, especially envy and hatred.

The Left understands that the unsucessful and unexceptional will always vastly outnumber the sucessful and exceptional. And telling the unexceptional that their failures are not their own…rather, they’re the result of cheating by the exceptional…is always an easy sell. And so is telling them that their Lefty saviors are going to take back some of what’s been stolen from them.

There’s nothing hard to understand about the Left.

So many connections:

The part of Harry Reid was played by Tommy Smothers in the movie ‘Ca$ino’ with DeNiro, et al. Harry started out as the Chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission in 1977.

Harry Reid grew up working in his parents laundry that serviced whorehouses in Nevada where it’s legal. One can speculate that he got the Syphilis there.

What is your problem? You should be proud of Reid’s speech!

When establishment Republicans held the Democrats below sixty seats in 2009, you forced Arlen Specter out of the party just to give him a supermajority.

When establishment Republicans had Reid on the ropes, you insisted that the party nominate the one candidate Reid could beat.

When establishment Republicans were ready to take over the Senate in 2010, you demanded that we hand over Senate seats in Colorado and Delaware (as well as Reid’s own) to ensure that he stayed Majority Leader.

When establishment Republicans were ready to reduce his majority in 2012, you forced the Democrats to take Senate seats in Missouri and Indiana.

When establishment Republicans had a presidential candidate running even with Obama in early October, you proudly awarded to White House to his opponent by boycotting the Presidential race because Romney wasn’t pure enough.

When establishment Republicans had finally convinced the Senate to pass a budget in 2013, Rafael bin Laden and his fellow Teahadis forbade it from passing, instead requiring Reid to fight and defeat the GOP in the government shutdown.

When establishment Republicans had kept Reid from weakening the filibuster, you compelled Reid to change his mind by preventing judges from being appointed to their seats even though no reason not to was ever presented.

So take some responsibility for yourselves, man! Reid is what the Tea Party has made him! Be proud of what you’ve done!

IndieDogg on March 14, 2014 at 4:28 AM

Reid is starting to see the end of his tenure as Senate leader and is flailing about for something to grasp like a desperate man sinking in quicksand. He set a dangerous precedent with his partial abolishment of the filibuster, and he knows that this time next year it might be a Republican-led Senate that takes advantage of the wheels he has set in motion.

EXCLUSIVE: FBI blocked in corruption probe involving Sens. Reid, Lee
FBI agents working alongside Utah state prosecutors in a wide-ranging corruption investigation have uncovered accusations of wrongdoing by two of the U.S. Senate’s most prominent figures — Majority Leader Harry Reid and rising Republican Sen. Mike Lee — but the Justice Department has thwarted their bid to launch a full federal investigation.

Holder Comes to the Rescue of another Democrat / Democratic Party Supporter
the Justice Department’s public integrity section — which normally handles corruption cases involving elected figures — rejected FBI agents’ bid to use a federal grand jury and subpoenas to determine whether the accusations are true and whether any federal crimes were committed by state and federal officials.

I don’t see anything ‘radical’ about the Kochs. Their agenda isn’t all that hidden. It’s personal and it’s business. They’ve done their own great job at ‘riling up the base’ – turning hundreds of thousands of grass roots minded folks into tools to do their bidding.
They are very rich, they are very smart. They want to protect and grow that wealth and have no time for any concern that such would be at the expense of the possibility of prosperity for other Americans. But rather than present that, they’ve got themselves a whole army of duped hard working Americans impassioned to stop ‘tyrany!’ and ‘get the government off our backs!’ and ‘stop taxing the wealth creators!’ and ‘make it legal for conservative billionaires to hunt endangered birds and enslave children!’.
Ok – maybe not that last one…they need to stay presentable.

From a Nevadan’s perspective – Harry Reid is scared for his career. In 2010, Sue Lowden had a strong chance of defeating him. Danny Tarkanian could make a decent showing, Sharron Angle was easy pickings. In the primary, the Reid machine destroyed Lowden and Tarkanian and the compliant media helped in cutting them off at the knees. Neophyte, tea party oddball Angle got the nomination and was slaughtered – the “establishment” Republicans apparently forgot to show up for the primary.

Now he is gearing up for 2016. He cannot beat Sandoval, so he has to keep Sandoval out of the race. The Reid machine interviewed numerous candidates and hand picked an Hispanic women to run for Lieutenant Governor. All others were told to stay out of the primary. The thought being – Sandoval will not run if a Democrat will ascend to the Governor’s mansion. Flores will likely run against Mark Hutchinson, Sandoval’s hand picked LG candidate. Helping Hutchinson will be the best way to defeat Reid in 2016.

According to an opensecrets.gov 2014 overview Koch industries ranks 45th on the list of top overall donors to political parties.

The Democratic Governors Association ranks 1st, The National Education Association ranks 2nd, the City of New York ranks 3rd, the Carpenter Union ranks 4th, the American Federation of State/County/Municipal Employees ranks 5th, the AFL-CIO ranks 6th, and Next Generation ranks 7th. All of these groups give over 80% of their money to Democrats. Of the top 20 big time donors 10 give more than 80% of their money to Democrats.

According to opensecrets.org 2014 Koch Industries gave $963,000 dollars to Republicans while the top 7 big time donors gave approximately $28 million to Democrats.

Of the top 10 donor groups to political parties between 1989 and today left leaning donors have given $400 million to Democrats and the remaining 2 have given about equally between Republicans and Democrats. And of the top 5 individual donors since 1989 to present $86 million went to Democrats and $4.6 million went to Republicans.

You say you’re not on Soros’s payroll. Fine. So why are you here? You have nothing in common with us, and nothing of value to add to any discussion (aside from the bad-taste-in-the-mouth humor you provide with your nonsense–maybe that’s the point).

Wouldn’t you be more at home with the Daily Kossaks? I don’t go to that site, but I hear that it’s yucky and icky–a perfect match for someone like you.

Wow, man.
You are doing some serious water carrying here.
You put this together on your own or you got it from some talking points source?
Either way…you have way too big a crush on these guys.

I don’t know if you’ve figured this out yet, but I’m not going all Harry Reid on the Kochs.
I don’t think they’re radical…or even all that interesting.
But you seem to have strong feelings for them.
Just what is it you feel they do for you?
I’m fine with you imagining them as heroes. But I think that’s as absurd as Reid painting them as evil incarnate.
They’re simply very very very wealthy guys willing to toss a few shillings towards a more accommodating climate for their interests.

Actually, he’s simply pointing out that your musings are just so much hollow wind…regardless of how clever you may think you are being by trying to cover up your inability to point out any actual wrong doing or immoral behavior by the Kochs with quips and oh-so cavalier claims of “I mean, I don’t really care about any of this stuff…I just feel bad for the astro-turfed lemmings”.

The fact is you could care less about money in politics, as long as it’s money being spent to further your political ideology. If I’m wrong, it shouldn’t be a problem for you to provide us all with a couple of links where you engage in the same grousing about the activities of those like Soros, right?

Oh wait…I forgot…you’re just sooo above it all.

They’re simply very very very wealthy guys willing to toss a few shillings towards a more accommodating climate for their interests.

And that differs from the intention of every political donation or advocacy group in history in what way exactly?

My talking points source was opensecrets.org, who got their figures from The Federal Election Commission.

Opensecrets.org counts among its major financial backers the Rockefellers and members of the Soros family, as well as Paul Allen of Microsoft.

You really need a few more brain cells, but since your Party abandoned the educated vote in 2012 I’m not holding my breath.

Speaking of which, know what the talking points source was that originally started the Left’s infantile obsession with the Brothers Koch?

Playboy Magazine.

Joel Pollak traces the Koch conspiracy theory to its true source: a degenerate creep named Mark Ames. Ames, formerly an American exile in Russia, is, by his own account, a rapist, a serial sexual harasser, an advocate of heroin addiction, and a publisher of fascist propaganda. If you read Pollak’s investigative piece, you will see that these are not Ames’s worst qualities.

Not surprisingly, just about everything that Ames alleged about the Koch brothers in his seminal post at Playboy.com, beyond the fact of their existence, was false, as Pollak documents.

Playboy, apparently embarrassed, took the post down, but that didn’t deter liberals, who knew a good conspiracy theory when they saw one. First ThinkProgress took up the cudgels, next Ms. Mayer–if not America’s most corrupt reporter, certainly a contender–and finally the New York Times and the Washington Post. If you want to understand the sewer from which these ostensibly respectable news organs pluck their stories, read Pollak’s report.

As for Ames, what has become of him? Is he languishing in prison somewhere? Of course not! He has a regular gig at MSNBC.

So take some responsibility for yourselves, man! Reid is what the Tea Party has made him! Be proud of what you’ve done!

You’re admitting that the Dems are too stupid to be in control of their own lives. We’ve known that for a long time.
