Netanyahu: PA has to recognize Israel as a Jewish state

posted at 11:13 am on March 11, 2014 by Ed Morrissey

I’ve flagged this before as the crux of the two-state solution, and Benjamin Netanyahu shows he’s not kidding around about it:

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday ruled out any deal with the Palestinians unless they recognise Israel as the Jewish state and give up their refugees’ right of return.

And he said Israel and the Palestinians were getting further away from reaching a peace deal which would end the decades-long conflict, with US-led peace talks bogged down in a bitter dispute over the question of Israel as a Jewish state.

“They (Palestinians) say they will never recognise a Jewish state and that they will never give up on the right of return,” Netanyahu said in remarks broadcast on Israeli public radio.

“I want to make clear that I will not accept an agreement that does not cancel the (refugees’) right of return and which does not include Palestinian recognition of the Jewish state,” he said in an address to the ruling rightwing Likud-Beitenu faction.

“These are basic conditions, which are justified and vital to the security of Israel.”

Leaks from the negotiation process made it seem that the US was willing to ignore this issue in order to get an agreement. The Palestinian Authority bought into that approach yesterday:

The Revolutionary Council of Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas on Monday unanimously endorsed his rejection of demands to recognise Israel as a Jewish state, officials at the meeting told AFP.

“President Abbas has reaffirmed his refusal to recognise the Jewishness of the State of Israel and council members stood up to hail this decision,” a senior Fatah official said from the meeting in Ramallah.

Abbas said in his speech to delegates that “at 79 years old, he wasn’t going to back down on his people’s rights or betray their cause”, despite the “great pressure being exerted”, said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity.

So much for that attempt.

First, Obaka needs to recognize Israel as a Jewish State.

Don’t push it Bebe. I know how you can prove you exist. “I think therefore I am”

“Not gonna happen”

There is no point in trying to make peace in that part of the world. I choose to let the westernized people of Israel do what is necessary.

Netanyahu: PA has to recognize Israel as a Jewish state

Come on, Bibi. Anyone with a brain knows that words or contracts with arabs are totally useless and meaningless. Fatah, and the later incarnation of the PA, have never held to a single agreement they have ever made or signed. Never. They broke Bush and Rice’s idiotic Road-Kill Map the first day it was announced. They violated the Oslo accords from the start. They have always, and will always, be totally untrustworthy. You cannot deal with arabs as if they were Westerners. Different cultures. Vastly different cultures. There is no such concept as “goodwill” in arab culture. How many times do Westerners have to see irrefutable evidence of this before they learn?

I’ve flagged this before as the crux of the two-state solution,

Again with this “two-state” solution drivel. There will NEVER be just one pali state. The west bank and Gaza are totally separate entities that will never fall under the same leadership. They are separate right now (and have been for some time).

Can you please stop writing this “two-state” silliness. If you want to talk about the “three-state solution, with Israel cut in half for fun”, then you can address that (as that is the truth of what the silly people are trying to negotiate) but please don’t write “two-state solution” anymore. You know it will never be. I know it will never be. The PA and Hamas know it will never be. Everyone knows that it’s a sick joke. They just like to keep repeating it to fool most of the people the same way that the lefties and Vichy Republicans like to talk about “immigration” when they really mean “doing away with the concept of sovereignty and the nation-state while giving aid and comfort to the illegal invasion”.

There will be peace in the region when the Arabs calling themselves Palestinians are driven out. They will never accept Israel’s right to exist.

zoyclem on March 11, 2014 at 11:25 AM

Further, there already exists one independent pali state and that is Jordan.

The 50k black hatters who protested in NY against mandatory military service in Israel should be banned by Israel from visiting. That would freak them out.

Blake on March 11, 2014 at 11:26 AM

When the PA’s stating point of negotiations is the eradication of Jews, there really is no where to go. Why bother? It is not a crisis, just a bad situation for Israel. I think the best solution for Israel to focus their attention on is getting a friend back into the White House.

Right-on, Prime Minister.

My sincerest apologies for the failure on our part, to elect a President who’s not working against you . . . : (

Sec Lurch devastated that his platitudes and bluster are being ignored. Two state solution is not going to happen as long as there are Arabs/Muslims involved.

Can’t the Palestinians just go into Israel to defend the rights of ethnic Palestinians (I know there is no such thing)? If it worked for the Russians, why doesn’t the PA just take what they want? It isn’t as if the rat-eared wonder is going to intervene. He attended a church for 20 years that hates Jews. His Secretary of Defense hates Jews. His Ambassador to the UN hates Jews. The only possible reason to defend Israel is all that Jewish money he gets from Hollywood but who else are they going to support- some Republican?

“I want to make clear that I will not accept an agreement that does not cancel the (refugees’) right of return and which does not include Palestinian recognition of the Jewish state,”

THIS is why peace will never happen. Who the f@ck transcribed this quote? The palestinians ARE NOT, AND NEVER HAVE BEEN REFUGEES!! They are refugees as much as I am a refugee from my house in Kalifornia when I sold it to someone else to move to Texas. They were compensated for any land the Israeli’s now have.

The fact that they squandered their compensation and the Isreali’s successfully developed their worthless desert is not the Israeli’s problem. It’s the palestinians problem, and they have to own it. But that will never happen.

NOMOBO on March 11, 2014 at 11:42 AM

The world demands that Israel make peace with the Palestinians. But Israel cannot impose a peace agreement on an enemy that doesn’t want peace.

Netanyahu should use the same strategy as the establishment GOP. Just talk to them and build bridges. Don’t shut down the “dialogue” because the PA demands right of return and return to the 1968 borders! It’s that kind of distrust that our wonderful President is fighting against when he attempts to bully Israel into accepting a deal as part of his attempt at legacy building

Right on, POP! Unless and until ‘Palestinian’ youth are taught anything but visceral hatred of Jooos (and by extension, Christians), nothing will change. I say, give it another 1,000 years…

I don’t know what he’s complaining about. Plenty of people here in Pennsylvania recognize Israel.

Oh, wait….

CurtZHP on March 11, 2014 at 11:50 AM

You all have to remember that the left really believes the candid comments that got the late Helen Thomas fired…..

When asked for comments on Israel, she replied: “Tell them to get the hell out of Palestine.” and “Remember, these people are occupied and it’s their land. It’s not German, it’s not Poland…” When asked where Israeli Jews should go, she replied they could “go home” to Poland or Germany or “America and everywhere else. Why push people out of there who have lived there for centuries?”

Hard to come to any sort of an accord when one faction wants you dead. Even harder when the liberal mentality begins with the idea that the Jews are interlopers who need to make all the compromise.

Israel isn’t going far enough because She’s not making the Haredi female slaves(aka Haredi women) serve.
Stick some depro praverba in their arms and force those little ladies into their own unit.
They can hold off popping out their legions of brain-washed Spawn until after they serve.

The existance of Israel negates the validity of Islam. The ‘palistinians’ will never give up their fight to destroy Israel.

TerryW on March 11, 2014 at 12:10 PM

About G.D. time that the Israelis adopted the foolproof Arab/Leftist technique of “non-negotiable demands.” If all of them are not accepted without modification of any kind, then there’s nothing to talk about. The main purpose of this is to highlight the hypocrisy of the other side.

One fine day, when all of us are long gone, this will finally become clear. Future generations will shake their heads and wonder “Why couldn’t they see it?”

ncinca on March 11, 2014 at 2:28 PM

Just so we’re all clear on this, Jen Psaki…who made the comment that the US doesn’t think the PA needs to recognize Israel as a Jewish state…has emerged as a top if not THE top spokes-drone at Foggy Bottom…has never held a job outside partisan politics and campaigns in her life.

She has ZERO diplomatic experience and appears to have no job experience of any relevant kind before jumping into politics as a knife-in-her-teeth Democratic spinmeister in the long long ago time of 2001.

This of course makes her perfect for a high-ranking and important spot aboard the Fundamental Transformation Express.

Sacramento on March 11, 2014 at 3:37 PM

This is a new demand. If it were critical to the peace talks it would have been in UNSCR 242 which is the basis for all the negotiations.

Bibi is just doing the usual thing trying to get out of serious negotiations.

lexhamfox on March 11, 2014 at 8:21 PM

Yeah, Obama is soooo pro Israel

http://www.jerusalemonline.com/news/middle-east/israeli-palestinian-relations/american-state-dept.-spokesman-palestinians-need-not-recognize-the-jewish-state-4155

The spokeswoman for the American State Department, Jen Psaki, stated in an interview last night (Saturday) with the “Al-Quds” newspaper that the Palestinians do not need to recognize Israel as Jewish state as part of the peace agreement if they do not wish to do so.

End this charade now Bibi..just say no to it all
