Report: Hillary compares Russian moves to Nazi aggression

posted at 9:41 pm on March 4, 2014 by Mary Katharine Ham

Hmmm:

Former secretary of state Hillary Clinton addressed the ongoing crisis in Ukraine at a fundraiser in California on Tuesday, making what two attendees described as a comparison between Russia’s decision to issue passports in the Crimean region to the “population transfers” carried out by Nazi Germany before World War II.

Clinton made the remarks at a $1,500-per-plate fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club of Long Beach at a law firm downtown, Keesal, Young & Logan.

The comments were Clinton’s first known about the still shifting situation in Ukraine, where an estimated 16,000 Russian troops have been mobilized in the Crimean region since Saturday. Clinton, since leaving the State Department, has been cautious about how and when to weigh in on national security developments.

“Mrs. Clinton talked at length on the situation in the Ukraine,” said one attendee, Harry Saltzgaver, the executive editor of a group of local newspapers in Long Beach.

Both Saltzgaver and a second fundraiser attendee, who requested to speak without attribution, described Clinton’s parallel between the actions of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Adolf Hitler, who resettled tens of thousands of ethnic Germans in Eastern and Central Europe to Nazi Germany.

“She compared issuing Russian passports to Ukrainians with ties to Russia with early actions by Nazi Germany before Hitler began invading neighboring countries,” Saltzgaver said. “She said, however, that while that makes people nervous, there is no indication that Putin is as irrational as the instigator of World War II.”

Her behavior and statements of late, especially on foreign policy, have been characterized as cautious. In fact, they were characterized as such just hours ago by the very reporter who broke this. This seems…not so much, and invites obvious attacks on the former Secretary of State, who long bragged of “resetting” relations with Russia.

Ahem:

Josh Kraushaar calls this a “Hillary the Hawk” moment, and we were used to seeing that streak come out back when she was playing the hawkish foil to Obama’s dove, not the olive branch to his beak. But going Godwin’s Law so soon? There are plenty of ways to flex one’s foreign policy muscle without going there. As we all know from watching President Obama, there are plenty of ways to express outrage and deep concern without really meaning any of it, and therefore avoiding ticking off the dovish base of the Democratic Party. It wouldn’t take a Nazi comparison for Hillary to stay safely on the hawkish side of Obama. I gotta believe this kind of comment gives the Elizabeth Warren recruiters an itch.

Exit question:
If they’re the Nazis, who does that make this grinning friend, so sure her super-keen agreement with the aggressive leader in question would solve everything? See? Too easy.

Now, if she would just characterize the current regime as the Neo Fascist cult that it is. Oh, wait, she has a cult of her own…

Putin is one smart dog. He knows the dog on the other side of the fence is a neuter. I might not like the fella but Putin is showing the West that he knows how to walk the walk.

She is right on that, it isn’t her fault this time and she has balls that obama doesn’t have.

Hillary: “I don’t hear anything….[goddamn reset button...work motherf**ker]…..clik clik clik…..”

BobMbx on March 4, 2014 at 9:59 PM

If Hillary had just spelled “reset” correctly, this crisis would never have happened.

Instead, she gives the Russians an “overcharge” button and look what happens.

malclave on March 4, 2014 at 9:59 PM

This person is a piece of feces.

What a horrible person from top to bottom.

She is angling to make herself look tough and Obama weak, assuming that in time people will forget the “micro”.

It really could work. The average idiot voter has no recollection of “reset”. But tough broad Hillary who would sell her own mother’s kidneys on the black market, if it meant more power for her.

That broad is evil.

freemarketer on March 4, 2014 at 10:45 PM

Somebody better tell Hillary to tone it down………
Their Pravda Liberal media…aka WaPo and Eugene Robinson are doing their best to make this whole Putin deal much ado about nothing……and it’s those damn crazy Republicans who are stirring the pot……
Trying to distract the attention away from the utterly serious matter of Gay marriage and how normal it really is.

FlaMurph on March 4, 2014 at 10:50 PM

In 2005 Obama Pushed To Disarm Ukraine

U.S. Senators Dick Lugar (R-IN) and Barack Obama (D-IL) called for the immediate destruction of 15,000 tons of ammunition, 400,000 small arms and light weapons, and 1,000 man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS) or shoulder missile launchers.

VorDaj on March 4, 2014 at 10:50 PM

Be reminded that the Hillary reset button was a move by obama to forgive Putin all the economic and other sanctions which GWB had put in place as a result of the thug taking parts of Georgia…which he still holds today.

Kucinich blamed the USA/CIA for what Putin did. Thus, don’t allow any leftist, incl. media, to get away with NOT blaming the Crimea actions on Putin.

That incl. the dummy who commented about it all day today…the chick who claims to be a Republican.

Schadenfreude on March 4, 2014 at 11:19 PM

Blind hog. Acorn.

Stopped (analog) clock. Two times every 24 hours.

The rest of the time, Hillary!! is still an idiot.

Her only consolation is that several other progressives (notably The One, Biden, Lurch, “Chuckles” Hegel, Boxer, Bloomberg, “Dennis the Menace” Kucinich, and S. L. “Leepy” Lee) are dumber than she is.

Just not by much, is all.

I can remember a time when a simple phrase like “Axis of Evil” excited liberal sensibilities as the height of rhetorical excess and irresponsibility. What say thee now?

Lamont Cranston on March 4, 2014 at 11:39 PM

You don’t go full Godwin this early in the game unless you’re trying to run at Usain Bolt-like speed away from the Obama-Kerry foreign policy — mainly because you don’t want people to remember it’s really the Obama-Kerry-Clinton foreign policy.

Team Hillary’s bet is that relations with Putin are going to get worse, not better, in the near future, and she’d rather be the person explaining why she compared Vladamir to Adolph than be explaining why she gave Vladimir’s stand-in a defective reset button (i.e. — if there’s going to be any media scrutiny at all, she’d rather have them telling people Hillary’s too tough on the Russian leader than that she’s not tough enough, just like Obama).

jon1979 on March 5, 2014 at 1:10 AM

The ignorance is hilarious.

Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine is now a Svoboda member. Svoboda doesn’t like Jews or non-Whites. Secretary of National Security is Svoboda founder. Deputy Secretary of National Security is Right Sector founder, which essentially what the leftists of the UK claim the English Defense League is.

I think these people aren’t paying attention.

So, Hillary, if they are the Nazis does this mean that you were Molotov?

And just which parts of the world did you agree to hand over to them so that we could get our share?

Or were you doing the bidding of our modern Neville Chamberlain?

Couldn’t you understand what Putin was about, Hillary?

If yes why did you do the things you did?

If no, then why would anyone want you back in any position of power?

ajacksonian on March 5, 2014 at 6:48 AM

For once she is right.

Theadora on March 4, 2014 at 9:51 PM

Yep. An old pretext for invasion (see: Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact). Putin is a fan of the old ways.

baldilocks on March 5, 2014 at 7:30 AM

Putin has set the table for yet another Demtard moment in history.
My bet is that Putin eventually backs out, just like he did in Georgia, after Obama/Kerry make a few more libtard threats. Not because of their idiotic threats, mind you, but because of how ineffective and naive they are made to look.
Sure Kerry let’s go to the “security council” so that Russia can veto UN actions.

Where was THIS Secretary of State when she was fumbling through the position?

One day she is failing to pull off a ‘skit’ with the Russians by laughing, giggling, and giving them a prop (re-set button) with the word ‘Overcharge’ on it – what Hillary THOUGHT was the Russian word for ‘Re-set’.

NOW she gets it right…and she helped Obama make the invasion of Crimea possible.

Bravo, Hillary…Bravo.

Former secretary of state Monica Lewinsky’s ex-boyfriend’s wife Hillary Clinton addressed the ongoing crisis…

There. That’s better.

Putin needs to get some lessons from the President of Mexico on how to invade a country and not have to fire a shot or use troops

RonK on March 5, 2014 at 8:40 AM

But going Godwin’s Law so soon? There are plenty of ways to flex one’s foreign policy muscle without going there.

Could we please dispense with the idiotic notion of “Godwin’s Law”?

That started out as a observation from someone about the ‘progression’ of online arguments to the point of hurling personal insults and morphed into a “Law” that supposedly bans discussions of the evil that is Hitler and the

Nazi
German Nationalsozialistische [deutsche Arbeiter-Partei] (National Socialist [German Workers’ Party])
The American Heritage® Abbreviations Dictionary, Third Edition

That “Law” has made it possible to halt discussions of the holocaust and history at large – do we really want to forget the past like that?

DinaRehn on March 5, 2014 at 9:26 AM

Having acquainted myself and had numerous conversations with citizens of former Soviet client states, I can tell you that to a person they claim the USSR force-relocated millions of ethnic Russian-speaking peoples into their countries for just this purpose. This is a long-game plan, people. Not a new thing.

PJ Emeritus on March 5, 2014 at 9:44 AM

Well, of course she does. Mrs. Clinton needs to start covering for her substantial role in the current situation due to her lack of honest, ability to show leadership and politically motivated decision making.

I believe Mrs. Clinton was part of the entire chorus singing that seeing Russia as a danger was some time of backwards 80′s vision (she chortled).

Not too funny now- is it? Now that more people are dead or in danger due to her poor decision making?

Where is that picture of Mrs. Clinton with the reset button?

Re-writing things dear to her is a typical Hillary tactic. Now she senses a need to distance herself from her previous love affair with Russia.
