Flashback: Obama, Kerry ridiculed Romney over Russia

posted at 6:01 pm on March 3, 2014 by Guy Benson

Now seems like a reasonable moment to recall these zingers, which Democrats and the media thought were terribly clever in 2012. Mitt Romney’s clear-eyed assessment of Vladimir Putin’s Russia is looking more spot-on accurate than ever, yet it was greeted at the time with widespread ridicule. Barack Obama, in the final presidential debate:

“A few months ago when you were asked what’s the biggest geopolitical threat facing America, you said Russia…the 1980s are now calling to ask for their foreign policy back because the Cold War’s been over for 20 years.”

John Kerry at the DNC:

“…but not Mitt Romney. He’s even blurted out the preposterous notion that Russia is our ‘number one geopolitical foe.’ Folks: Sarah Palin said she could see Russia from Alaska; Mitt Romney talks like he’s only seen Russia by watching Rocky IV.”

OFA:

MSNBC:

I’ll close by revisiting a Gallup poll that seems significantly more relevant today than it did when it was released just one week ago:

Who’s laughing now?

Guy Benson does a good job of rounding up relevant videos and Twitter posts. Michelle Malkin was also excellent at that.

Funny you’ve failed to mention that they ridiculed Governor Palin first when she predicted the situation with Ukraine specifically 4 years earlier.

What’s the matter Guy, will the establishment cancel your membership in the RINO club if you dare to give the “Chillbilly” the credit she’s due?

Mitt Romney’s clear-eyed assessment of Vladimir Putin’s Russia is looking more spot-on accurate than ever, yet it was greeted at the time with widespread ridicule. Barack Obama, in the final presidential debate:

In the not too distant future
, it will be as hard to find someone who admits to voting for Obama in 2012 as it was to find a Richard Nixon voter in August of 1974.

Remember, this SCOAMF decided to verbally threaten Israel via a Bloomberg interview by threatening to withhold future U.S. Support.

Hopefully, Netanhayu LAUGHED in his face during today’s meeting when the threat was repeated.

The Guardian:

The seizure of the terminal in the Ukrainian city of Kerch, about 20km (12 miles) by boat to Russia, has exacerbated fears that Moscow is planning to bring more troops into this strategic Black Sea region, as the west debates how to react to the incursions.

This is the same route that Russia used when liberating Crimea from the Nazis in WW II – Kerch to Feodosiya down to Simferopol and Sevastopol.

No flipping duh Russia is our greatest geopolitical enemy, at least so long as Putin and his ilk rule it. Sure, North Korea has been loader this past decade, and Iran puts absolutely everything into being a thorn in our side, but, it’s flipping Russia! Few countries have the resources and capabilities Russia has, and as much as it galls me, even at the height of our military power we probably still couldn’t take Russia on its worst day. It’s just too big, can conscript too large an army, and is still very well equipped. Mad was best we could hope for, which is why the Star Wars program in the 80s scared the heck out of the USSR.

So yes, Romney was just stating the obvious, and of course was being mocked for it by short sighted idiots that were content to bury their heads in the sand.

It’s funny to watch the insecurity of Palinistas. “She got 9,000+ comments on Breitbart, but why won’t Hot Air cover it??”

Believe it or not, there’s more to life than Sarah Palin. Sarah Palin and Mitt Romney were both right. The only difference is that Romney was able to say it to Obama’s face because he was the nominee. And he was ridiculed by Obama because of it, which is why there are a bunch of “Romney was right” stories now.

Then there should be no complaint that Hot Air isn’t covering her comments. She has said a lot of things, both accurate and idiotic (as is true of most politicians). She’ll say a lot of things as a reality star as well. There are other people and things to cover. If I wanted to hear about only Palin, I would go to the sites that are devoted to her.

That’s perfectly fine. Conversation is a beautiful thing. But just look at this thread. This is a post about Romney being right, and Obama being wrong. And yet, Palinistas are here to say, “But Sarah was right too!” It just reeks of an inferiority complex. Just because Palin was also right about something, it doesn’t mean she has to be included in every post. If there was a Palin thread about her being right about something, I’m sure Palinistas wouldn’t be complaining about other people who were also right about the very same thing not being mentioned. They care more about these sorts of things than Sarah Palin herself does.

I agree with you on this topic…it doesn’t do a hell of
a lot of good to get into the tit for tat as to Who was
right about foreseeing all of this….

ToddPA on March 3, 2014 at 9:38 PM

Yeah, but that’s not really what it’s about.

ddrintn on March 3, 2014 at 9:45 PM

I know….just worn out from saying I told ya so…

(when it comes to Palin)

Actually, this matter just reinforces my support for
her even more….we have a Republican Party that is
absolutely worthless…they allow those who are the
best and brightest to get mocked and ridiculed into
the ground….they run people who are harmless
(and the media and Left know this)then wonder WHY
they lose elections…like I said, Worn out!

ToddPA on March 3, 2014 at 10:14 PM

I am not laughing. I am disturbed. We were warned and the powers that be chose to ignore the warning. The current administration will be quite Carteresque I am sure and we will be in this position continuing to sink into the quick sands of foreign policy disarray until we have a new President. I only hope its not Hillary “reset button” Clinton. We need a strong leader who puts America’s interests first.

I never understood the whole freaky-outy reaction to Palin’s claim about being able to see Russian territory from Alaskan territory. I thought it was common knowledge that you could. Michael Palin began one of his travelogues at the Alaskan town on the Little Diomede Island that is less than three miles away from the Big Diomede Island which had a Soviet military base back in the day. Bloom County in the 1980s had a sequence about how Russian troops had pulled within three miles of the USA in reference to this. I thought it was completely permeated into popular culture. But then, when these critics discovered these facts in the aftermath of Palin’s claim, why in the world did they continue to mock it as if it weren’t true? I don’t get it.

Thank God we didn’t elect McCain, we might have gotten an imbecile for a vice-president.

And lay off Barry would you, at least he doesn’t put women in binders or dogs on top of cars.

I still can’t believe the 2012 results … with all the problems this country is facing we actually could have elected a turnaround specialist and a budget wonk and instead we elected these two morons. Unbelievable.

See Flora Duh, the “establishment” did cancel his membership in the “RINO club.” It’s great that “my side” is still seeing the political landscape in the most constructive terms possible and consistently demonstrating a comprehensive and nuanced understanding of the problems at hand that diminish our chances for exercising political power. Best yet, we are coming up with rational terms and sensible strategies which will ensure that we are able to persuade our fellow citizens to pursue good governance and to preserve the Republic that was given to us through so much sacrifice…

.

Or could it be that we are going to perpetually shoot ourselves in the foot…. yeah, that.

The “Lamestream Media”, in both the ‘entertainment’ and ‘news’ divisions controlled overwhelmingly by liberal Democrats, did what it had to do to smear this charismatic and successful conservative Republican governor — a definite threat to their desire to get the first ‘black’ president elected, now a possibility in their lifetime (and they wanted so bad to cover this and have their names tied to such an historical time I’m sure). And now that much of the country has dumbed down and been adequately brainwashed nearly from infancy by that media, as well as public schools and other institutions the past few decades, they swallowed it like the psychologically pre-processed gullible fools they are.

i hear obama now wants to give the ukraine a billion dollars

ummmm why?

since america had nothing to do with it, why do we have to jump in with a billion to throw around.

He undoubtedly is an ignoramus on many issues, but he is a conniving basterd intent on changing the relationship of the citizen to the state and America’s status in the world. He is a destroyer. A marxist basterd.
