Memo to Reid: Cancellation pain in ObamaCare increasing

posted at 11:21 am on February 28, 2014 by Ed Morrissey

Getting into ObamaCare may be the easy task. Getting out of an ObamaCare plan — well, as we’ve noted before, that can be painful indeed, and the pain is getting worse. WFLV-TV in Florida finds that ObamaCare resembles Hotel California … you can check out any time you want, but you can never leave (via Daniel Halper):

In early January he signed up for a plan that cost nearly $300 a month. About a half hour later he and his wife realized they could barely afford that. They quickly found a less expensive plan through Humana for $116 a month.

“I immediately called back Florida Blue and asked them to cancel the policy,” Robinson said.

But he quickly learned canceling that coverage is no easy task. He said Florida Blue officials told him if he signed up for the other policy, his Florida Blue policy would cancel automatically, but the exact opposite happened instead.

“[Florida Blue] took the premium two days later and almost wiped out our account,” Robinson said.

More than six weeks later, after spending 50-60 hours on the phone, his policy is still not canceled. Robinson is still waiting for the payment Florida Blue withdrew from his account to be refunded.

So much for all of the ObamaCare “horror stories” being lies, eh, Senator Reid? That claim earned Reid two Pinocchios yesterday from Glenn Kessler, who advised Reid to “drop[] the harsh rhetoric” and just say many of the ads run by AFP have “serious problems.”

One serious problem for Reid and the White House, though, is that most of these stories don’t come from ads — they come from local news stations, which keep up a lot better with the pain than the national media does. Fox News reports one one mother who’s irate over being called a liar by Harry Reid:

“Does this look like a lie to you?” Democrats should be lining up to smack Reid across the chops for giving that kind of platform to every horror story, as well as making them all look heartless and cruel. Maybe they should think about returning him to the backbenches.

I don’t know what Reid was thinking but, you’ve got to admit, his not backing down from saying it has given the GOP an opportunity.

The commie Democrats will force you to fight for your freedom America, so far you have rolled over for them and all they see is RINO’s enabling the fraud and voters sitting on their hands at home.

They smell the fear, they see the blood in the water and like the sharks they are they are in a feeding frenzy on your freedom, your tax money, your lives and these ghouls will not stop until you are all eaten and digested total.

Take a stand now when the fight will be much easier, wait and it will cost many lives.

Schumer said something similar the other day, so clearly these are talking points being issued. Harry Reid didn’t go rogue. I do think they’ll quickly abandon this strategery though. It’s a layup even for the GOP. All they have to do is air endless ads showing victims of Obamacare and dare the Dems to call those people liars.

A Republican Senator should get on the floor and read off every single horror story. After each story, he/she should ask “Is this a lie Senator Reid?”

Do it for hours or days. Reid’s comments need to be burned into the voter’s brains.

VinceOfDoom on February 28, 2014 at 11:38 AM

Isn’t this so reminiscent of dictatorships like North Korea where the powerful elite leadership says outrageous lies and then everyone has to swallow them with a smile on their faces? Or, Leftist regimes where everyone’s mind has to get on the same page or else they’re, as Obama would say it, enemies to be punished?

This is the epitome of “The Emperor has no clothes”. “How fine ObamaCare is! Look at how well it’s working! There are no problems at all!”.

LashRambo on February 28, 2014 at 11:41 AM

That claim earned Reid two Pinocchios yesterday from Glenn Kessler, who advised Reid to “drop the harsh rhetoric” and just say many of the ads run by AFP have “serious problems.”

Kessler’s a despicable weasel who never cuts conservatives the same breaks he gives his filthy liberal friends. In this case (as he explains) Harry Reid merely mis-spoke when he said all the negative news about Obamacare were lies…..

….. it appears Reid misspoke the first time, so we will evaluate his second statement. For the record, The Fact Checker awards Pinocchios but shies away from the word “lie” because it is such a harsh, personal judgment. The Pinocchio scale is based on the idea that there are various types of misstatements, some worse than others.

In other words, Reid gets a pass on his more outrageous statment so Kessler can prop up the idea that Reid was merely speaking out about those evil Koch brothers (much of his defense of Reid comes from anti-AFP propaganda including previous “fact checks” by Kessler himself).

So, for the record Glen Kessler, you are a disgusting filthy liar. I’d challenge your integrity but as a Washington Post weasel it is clear you have no integrity to begin with.

We’ve had a good system of government, equal rights, equal protection under the law, rule of law. And so people have been pretty moral, good-natured, well-meaning, and doing their part, with the protection of that law. But Obama is really testing this, demoralizing people, with complicated, unwanted, unneeded laws, some of which he chooses to enforce or not enforce based on his whim. Ironically, ObamaCare is slowly making America sick.

ObamaCare resembles Hotel California

With Hotel California, no one wanted to check out because of the sybaritic pleasures offered within.

With Obamacare’s Motel Roach-ifornia, everyone wants to check out but can’t because they’re all dead after a very short while.

And the reason they’re dead is not because they were doused with roach-motel insecticide, but because they were denied access to doctors, hospitals and medicine.

Death. That’s the ultimate aim of Obamacare. The Left wants the population culled and this is the perfect vehicle to accomplish it (short of resorting to concentration-camp ovens).

The reason they want “the surplus population” to die is because of their fruitcake religious belief that Earth is a living being and human-kind is a cancer upon it that must be removed.

Senator Reid owe all of U.S. more than an apology. He owes U.S. the respect of resigning and apologizing.

He shows that the party he represents again is the party of forget me nots, which we should do them all the favor of forgetting them in all future elections.

MSGTAS on February 28, 2014 at 1:56 PM

Both the Left and conservatives promote a collectivized enslavement of each individual in the collectivists’ beloved compulsory government policies, such as insurance mandates and micro-managerial bureaucratic regulations, drug laws and marriage laws, which force everyone to involuntarily serve government bureaucrats and their minions, as well as the enforcers of such bureaucrats’ whims.

Statist rationalizations for the robbery and labor-enslavement committed by government thugs are never-ending.

Oh, the collectivists and statists come up with rationalizations saying there’s some sort of societal “contract” or “compact” (that doesn’t exist except in their own heads). You see, those who want to force others to serve them and their interests and their causes will come up with excuses.

So, a blatant dismissive lie that claims every single person who is having trouble with Obamacare is lying gets a grand total of … wait for it … TWO pinnochios?

When are we going to admit the biggest lie is when the WaPo claims to be a fact checker? The lie from Reid is both blatant and transparent, but Kessler wants to pretend there might be some truth to it.

Bottom line: the guy who claims to be a fact checker is himself a dishonest hack.

There Goes the Neighborhood on February 28, 2014 at 2:26 PM

A commenter here noted that Glenn Kessler of the WaPo’s “Fact Checker” gave Reid two Pinocchio’s for claiming the stories from victims of Obamacare were “made up out of whole cloth” and “lies”…

Therefore I give Mr. Kessler, two “Useful Idiots” for having his head so far up Harry Reid’s behind.

I also present Harry Reid with the inaugural “Most Disgusting A-hole Award“.

Reid more than earned this award (despite fierce competition from Chuck Schumer) for exhibiting new depths of depravity and inhumanity in calling victims of Democrat corruption and incompetence via Obamacare, liars.

Reid receives an added “Dingle-Berry Cluster” on the award for making his hateful speech on the Congressional record…
