Video: Jeff Gordon pranks blogger who said his first “Test Drive” was fake

posted at 10:01 pm on February 27, 2014 by Mary Katharine Ham

Any day you can see a member of the snarky, self-righteous Gawker media empire peeing his pants in the back of a cab driven by a mustachioed Jeff Gordon is a good day.

The car blog Jalopnik’s Travis Okulski wrote in 2013 that the NASCAR driver’s first viral video with Pepsi Max, “Test Drive,” was fake. Pepsi Max and Gordon didn’t appreciate that, so they got some help from Gawker to put Okulski in the car this time around. Now, sure, Gawker and Jalopnik are getting tons of attention from this, but just sit back and enjoy the pants-wetting.

Already over a million views.

A couple friends of mine were at a party where they met “Buddy.”

Buddy offered them a ride home and they agreed. Halfway there they got pulled over by a cop. Without any warning Buddy bails out of the car and takes off running, leaving them behind. Buddy escapes.

That’s when my friends discovered they were riding in a stolen car.

I (expletive) HATE restrictor-plates. They just guarantee a “big one”, every time.
That’s not why I started watching NASCAR back in 1979, but it is partly why I quit watching it in the late ’90s – early 2000s.

Theworldisnotenough on February 28, 2014 at 12:22 AM

I think the reason why some people thought the first commercial was fake was because some of the reactions by the car salesman seemed odd.
What they had to remember was that hell or high water he wanted to sell the car.

I remember watching a race (can’t remember which one) and driving down to the Plymouth dealer in a Belvaedere 318 three on the tree……to look a the Supr Bird in person. Later on could not afford any of the Hemis’s (and you had to special order them anyway), so ended up with a 383 Road Runner. Able to find one with the radio delete, but not one with the heater core delete. Took it out anyway. Fun times.

Jalopnik is one of the last bastions of semi-normalcy within the Gawker network, along with Deadspin, and to a greater extent, Lifehacker, which is staffed by people who are interested in productivity (not the typical Gawker audience).

Not as hard a hit as the wall took when she proceeded to drive headlong into it without any attempt at braking. First we thought she was out cold but the in-car cam showed her eyes wide open the whole time. She asked “what the hell happened?” on the radio and that’s what we were wondering. Not sure what the heck was going on there.

Keep voting for Harry Reid, you crazy Nevadans.

Neo on February 28, 2014 at 9:58 AM

Please keep in mind that Jalopnik is under the Gawker umbrella, but is FAR from the traditional gawker site. This is a blog for auto enthusiasts that refrains almost entirely from political conversation and that has a commentariate that also refrains from politics. The subsite, Oppositelock, is a fantastic community full of intelligent people, most of whom have their heads explode when they venture to Jezebel or gawker.

Gawker keeps the lights on, but Jalopnik is not a lefty or moron haven.

Travis is also a genuinely good guy, and funny as hghjj.
