Great news from Harry Reid: All ObamaCare horror stories are untrue

posted at 2:01 pm on February 26, 2014 by Allahpundit

Via the Standard, I confess that I did used to think that a multi-trillion-dollar leftist reinvention of the insurance industry would have all sorts of untoward consequences, some intentional and some not.

But then I watched Harry Reid mumble about the Koch brothers for three minutes and mine eyes were opened.

Guy Benson is virtually shaking with rage and disbelief that this tool could say this with a straight face, knowing that there are scores of reporters watching who’ve encountered genuine horror stories and could debunk him. (Start with Pulitzer winner Charles Ornstein of Pro Publica and work your way down.) But that’s another sign of a trend developing among top Democrats: The more time wears on, the more brazen and Orwellian the lies get. Why else would Sebelius have said, on camera, that the administration never chose seven million as a target for O-Care enrollment when she must have known that she herself had used that figure — also on camera? Are they just exhausted from defending the law at this point and willing to resort to nonsense no matter how easily exposed it is?

Actually, the real meta-problem for Democrats on ObamaCare that this clip exemplifies is that, from the beginning, they simply would not and could not pitch this boondoggle as a matter of trade-offs. Yes, Obama could have said, if you like your plan you may not be able to keep your plan, but the trade-off is that you’ll get “comprehensive” coverage from now on. Yes, the White House could have said, healthy young people will get hosed by being legally compelled to buy insurance they almost certainly won’t need, but the trade-off is that the money insurers make off of them will be used to pay for treatments for very sick people. Yes, Harry Reid could have said, there are some real horror stories involved in this program, but the trade-off is that it’s made life better for more people than the old system did. They could have said this, but acknowledging trade-offs means admitting that Democratic proposals do indeed have serious costs, possibly serious enough to fatally wound public support for them while they’re making their way through Congress. So we get another Big Lie instead.

But then I watched Harry Reid mumble about the Koch brothers for three minutes and mine eyes were opened.

According to the nonpartisan Open Secrets.org, the evil Koch Brothers ranked 59th in total political giving over the past 15 years. The top 5 donors were all Democrat Unions.

Poor Harry needs a new object for his Hatred-after all, George Soros is now a part-owner of Halliburton!

Schadenfreude on February 26, 2014 at 2:06 PM

So all those millions of people who’ve lost their insurance are lying? They’re fabricated? Paid shills for the Koch Bros? And why then did Obama rewrite the law so that insurance companies would be forced to continue offering those plans? Wouldn’t a move like that be completely unnecessary if all the horror stories about dumped coverage were untrue?

I gotta say though, I love this electoral strategery. Go out there and not only try to sell Obamacare as a success, but claim that the millions of people who’ve been negatively impacted are fictional characters in a Koch Bros. production.

Phew! I am so happy to know that is…..in, what’s that? You say I actually am paying twice the amount as last year for the same coverage??? You say I did lose the $1500????

Ukiah on February 26, 2014 at 2:11 PM

Hey AllahPundit!

I’m glad you mentioned this today. This morning after seeing what Sebelius said the other day, I was coincidentally thinking the same thing. How can someone just flat out lie as an adult in the public eye? They’ve got to know every one KNOWS they’re lying. It’s like a kid I think that isn’t cognitively all there yet.

Two things. It’s either they don’t want to admit reality(they’re stupid) not my belief, or they don’t give a sh*t(what I really think). This most assuredly will piss a lot of voters off.

TexasJack on February 26, 2014 at 2:13 PM

Jack_Burton on February 26, 2014 at 2:17 PM

The blueprint unveiled by Rubio on Cuba should be used by a designated hitter every time something like this happens. Take to the well, crank up the video and volume, and lay Harry Reid out. If this happened in Parliament, there would be blood on the floor. That is, if Reid had blood in his veins rather than black bile.

Yeah, I’m a bit pissed. So is a wide swath of America. Unfortunately (for us and them), everybody doesn’t check Hot Air several times a day for the scoop.

IndieDogg on February 26, 2014 at 2:18 PM

ALL of these countries leaders have/are displaying the EXACT same behavior:

We will just tell BIGGER lies rather than admit the truth.

1) Egypt – Morsi
2) Ukraine – Yanukovych
3) Venezuela – Chavez & Maduro
4) United States of America – Obama, Reid, Pelosi & Kneepad Media

One of these countries has one OVERWHELMING important difference from the others.

The Alinsky and Cloward-Piven believers are just as deluded as the Marx/Lenin believers … or a group of lemmings.

viking01 on February 26, 2014 at 2:23 PM

WHY can’t anyone get that they BELIEVE what they say! They do not think they are lying. They really don’t. They believe the truth is whatever they happen to say at any given moment and reality and what they’ve said in the past literally has no bearing on it at all.

Obama has done this time and again (witness him saying his administration was doing everything in its power to secure the Keystone pipeline on the VERY DAY his administration was systematically and emphatically BLOCKING the pipeline in Congress).

There is not a truthful one from him on down. They simply believe that Americans are so dumb they will believe anything and that the media will back them up–either by outright lying for them or by completely ignoring any story that doesn’t promote the agenda (and so far, they are pretty much right about that last one!).

The trend that should be concerning us regarding the top Democrats and the way they want to rule, is that they are using Rousseau, Marat, Marx, Sanger, Ayers, Alinsky, Cloward & Piven, and even Orwell’s 1984 as instruction manuals for building their dream state.

They’re just following their third-world, retard, Sukarno-clone. The more Barky lies and gets away with it (because so many people are too cowardly to utter the truth that Barky has the mind of a gnat, the personality of pond scum and does nothing but tell the dumbest, most transparent, most intellectually offensive lies … lest they be called “raaaaacists!!!”) the more the rest of the useful idiot dems follow his lead and lie like imbecilic banshees on crack.

But, many of us tried to warn people about this when they were too scared to even demand that barky prove his eligibility for the office (as if he could …) – that letting the America-hating retard go on that Constitutional requirement would just lead to more and more un-Constitutionality – but, they wouldn’t listen. They were just too darn scared of being called “raaaacists!!!!” for pointing out that barky was so sub-par in just about every category that the fact that he could breathe without the aid of machines was somewhat impressive.

Oh well. White guilt. It’s a friggin killer, even as it is as absurd as anything.

I mean, society will unravel before the Lie is really exposed, and that may be the goal after all. Why not? A collapsed society serves their interests. So there is absolutely NO incentive not to keep doubling down on the Big Lie. It helps them short term AND long term.

DinaRehn on February 26, 2014 at 3:14 PM

The reason they can lie so blatantly is that their support is now down to the core, comprised solely either of people who support lying as a tactic and expect and applaud it, and those who are just too stupid to know they are being lied to.

The latter category elected Obama twice after we spent over 20 years making registering to vote easy as filling out half a postcard and voting so easy you can do it absentee for no good reason, or early before the scandals break, and get a ride on Election Day if you forget. We cajole and shame these clueless idiots to get out and vote, and are then surprised they vote blindly and stupidly – and always for Democrats.

What the heck did you expect from “Rock the Vote” anyway?
