Florida Democrat: Without immigration reform, where will we get our landscapers and maids?

posted at 5:21 pm on February 25, 2014 by Allahpundit

Via the Free Beacon, a rare example of a politician articulating the subtext of the evergreen “jobs Americans won’t do” euphemism. She’s not the only prominent Democrat to do that lately. A couple of weeks ago, amnesty shill extraordinaire Luis Gutierrez told C-SPAN that America needs immigrants (i.e. illegal immigrants) because, without them, “who would be working in the fields?” Who, he wondered, would be doing the “dirty backbreaking filthy work of working in agriculture” that endless millions of unemployed Americans allegedly consider beneath them? And it’s not just Democrats: On Twitter, Benjy Sarlin points out that Haley Barbour is typically candid on this point too. The choice, then, as presented by Alex Sink, is either to let businesses continue to hire the serf class we’ve illegally imported or legalize that serf class so that businesses can then hire them in good conscience. No third option, evidently. Which, again, is why neither side can be trusted on border security. Once today’s serfs become tomorrow’s citizens, where do tomorrow’s serfs come from? There’s a reason we’re negotiating a new amnesty 25-30 years after the last one.

Sink’s problem is that it sounds at first blush like she’s griping that she might not be able to find cheap help to clean her home. How much is she going to have to fork over if we pass on immigration reform and she’s forced to hire a citizen to scrub her toilet? That’s not what she’s saying, though; she’s talking about landscapers and maids needed to staff local hotels, in case that makes you feel better. Perish the thought that any politician might have self-interested reasons for supporting amnesty. Now, if only we can get a Republican to repeat this verbatim, maybe it’ll gain some outrageous-outrage traction in the media. Any takers? Haley?

Only good Apache is a dead Apache.

Just read the real history of the unlimited illegal immigration from Mexico into the land of the Apache.

Ask a La Raza cult member what the price of a set of Apache ears were and paid for by the Mexican Goverment.

You , Americans are the new Apache, they now come for your land, your gold, your women and children.

You too have bad chiefs who sell out your locations and defenses as scouts for this new age evil.

They call it re-election money, they call them lobbist.

Yet they come for you.

Keep it simple, Commies kill, they kill freedom and they come for you now.

You must fight or die.

The time to make a decision is now.

The jobs Americans just won’t do? If their freebies ended, would Americans starve to death in the streets before they would clean a house or cut the grass? What rational human being with an innate survival instinct would do that?

It’s not jobs they won’t do, it’s jobs the politicians pay them not to do in order to garner their vote. End welfare and watch the illegal immigrants self-deport for lack of employment.

Who will clean our toilets and change our childrens’ poopy diapers?

Wait, the new work ethic is that Obamacare is letting people NOT work for a living. Doesn’t this mean that the Republican’s opposition to immigration reform is saving millions of illegal aliens from being chained to a job of menial labor? With Obamacare, taxpayers have to pay for people to not work, but the Republican plan gives you the same result for nothing. Winning!

My “landscaper” is an old white guy. And yes, he does the work himself. He lives in a moderately priced apartment and, from what I can tell, works out of his van.

I don’t have a maid. That’s something only rich people can afford. Which means that they could afford to pay them a decent salary without amnesty.

This is sad…

“An Arizona college is being sued for labeling a student a “bigot” and punishing her with a long-term suspension after she requested that English be used in her nursing studies class so she could learn the subject.

The action was filed against Pima Community College on behalf of student Terri Bennett, who alleged that school officials created a “learning environment [that] was hostile to her as an English-language speaker.”

The case will proceed to trial in March.

According Bennett’s legal complaint, she started nursing classes at PCC in January 2013. During classroom hours, she and her fellow students were divided up into smaller groups, and she was “the only first-language English speaker” in her group. The other students in her group “spoke primarily in Spanish.”

The students were asked to fill out class evaluations in March and were told their answers would remain anonymous. Thus, Bennett indicated on her evaluation she would prefer “there were no Spanish in the classroom.”

During another class, Bennett stated shortly after turning in her evaluation, Spanish was used so heavily in the classroom that she said she could not “concentrate.” By April 3, Bennett claimed her learning environment was so challenging that she “followed PCC procedures and requested an interview with the Director of the Nursing Program.”

Bennett’s complaint alleges that, after she told nursing director David Kutzler of her struggles, he accused her of “discriminating against Mexican-Americans” and of being a “bigot and a bitch.”

Flora Duh on February 25, 2014 at 6:03 PM

The other thing is, a market wage is the one that attracts Americans and they can take it or refuse it. The minimum wage screws that up, and so does letting in below wage workers who send the money back home. Right now the employment market is stagnant so workers can’t compete for wages. And where they can’t find workers, it is because they have not offered the right wage, and perhaps they need to rethink what they sell room rates and restaurant meals for.

I was in Northern NH at an Omni, and all the ladies wore buttons on their lapel saying which local town they came from. And I liked it.

If Juan and Jose can stay to do the jobs Americans don’t want to do, likewise Ravi and Krishna can stay to undercut the high-tech job market and displace Americans from the jobs they need to stay afloat in the middle class.

Someone should be asking Gutierrez about this remark, since he’s been in the lead on immigration reform. Doesn’t it seem logical that the reason illegal immigrants do those low paying sucky jobs is BECAUSE they’re here illegally?

If you’re always worried about getting caught & deported you’re probably less likely to file a complaint against an employer who takes advantage of you. You’re more likely to take any job – especially one where you get paid in cash.

So if we give these people amnesty – why should they be willing to “do the jobs Americans won’t?” They can aspire for better jobs than picking fruit and scrubbing tourists toilets. Oops – we’ll need another wave of illegal immigrants.

katiejane on February 25, 2014 at 6:39 PM

And are they going to be willing to pay these new citizens the shiny new $10.10 minimum wage to mow clean their bathrooms and do their landscaping?

ctmom on February 25, 2014 at 6:41 PM

They are working as serfs because serfs are cheaper than legal workers. Once legal they lose their value as all the rules and regulations apply.

What with minimum wage, workmans’ comp, social security, etc etc. they will be happy to take welfare because the jobs will go to those who work off the books.

In fact, collect the benefits and work off the books!

Lonetown on February 25, 2014 at 6:43 PM

Florida Democrat: Without immigration reform, where will we get our landscapers and maids?

What I hate almost as much as the idea of mass amnesty is the fact that the pols 99.99% time lie about what “immigration reform” means.

For a low information voter, it’s “let’s fix the problem with so many people crossing, but let’s create a process to allow some to stay and to allow those in who meet some requirement.”

What this honest Dem has said, crystal clear, that immigration reform doesn’t mean shrinking the number of Mexicans entering, illegally or otherwise, but to let millions of more in!

The squishes who buy this stuff about “immigration reform” during primaries and elections will be the death of the gop as a viable brand.

Cut off the gravy train welfare we have and those people would suddenly find those jobs acceptable. Work or starve!!

And yet in TN, where VW workers got a chance to unionize and the company actually would welcome that effort, the workers voted it down.

Strange, that. You would think they would have jumped at the chance to do it if you are right that unions are such great things.

Say, how is Detroit doing these days? Have the unions fixed up Motor City yet?

What a racist elitist bitchD

TX-96 on February 25, 2014 at 7:41 PM

These elitist politicians are so out of touch with reality it’s frightening. It’s almost as if once they get elected they lose all sense of reason and why their constituents voted for them.

Although I would like to believe that the unemployed would be willing to work, I’m more inclined to think that they would prefer to stay on unemployment or welfare with their Obamaphones, flat screens, food stamps and $5000 back from their income taxes.

You’re right! Owlgore, the consummate southern gentleman, excelled at that.

Lanceman on February 25, 2014 at 8:04 PM

Pretty funny given that Southern conservatives — seen most recently in Tennessee — continue to fight to return the south to a sharecropper economy as a matter of Republican Party principle.

Merciful teapot!

So a vote AGAINST UNIONS (that is what you are referencing)
in Tenn. correct? is taking us back to Sharecropper status??

Hope you donned a pair of Chuck Taylors for that
Giant Fu*king Leap.

What about all of those people who have. dropped out of the workforce because they could not find a job? What about those people that two years of U.C. have expired? We are moving in a direction that Europe has already gone, importing people to serve. And, those people have different values and beliefs, and they are starting to assert themselves into changing the culture of the country. In their case, it is Muslims and Shariah Law replacing their hundreds years old culture and traditions. Be careful of what you want. Sometimes paying more now for your lettuce and housecleaning can be cheaper in the long run.

Got to hand it to her though, she’s the only Democrat that admits she publically endorses Latino slavery.

I’m not Hispanic, so I must have imagined those summers picking commercial crops.

You must have gotten WAYYYY more than $50 an hour then, lol.

This is the same argument southern democrats used to defend slavery before the civil war. “Without slavery who will pick the cotton?”
