Democrat Alex Sink rejects NBC (and Chuck Todd) for debate

posted at 12:31 pm on February 16, 2014 by Jazz Shaw

Not too long ago, the RNC decided to take a stronger hand in controlling debate formats for the 2016 elections, looking to lessen the weight of the thumb that Democrat sympathizing media moderators regularly put on the scales. It was a smart move, since the legacy of 2008 and 2012 provided more than ample evidence of the need for it. It seems that other politicians are picking up on this trend, including Florida congressional candidate Alex Sink, who has rejected a proposal to have MSNBC’s Chuck Todd moderate a debate between her and David Jolly. Of course, this is a little odd since Sink is a Democrat.

When it came to laying down the ground rules for an upcoming debate in the closely watched Florida congressional special election, Democrat Alex Sink — who seems allergic to the national attention her race is getting — had big demands: No NBC. And no Chuck Todd.

With all eyes trained on the race between Sink and Republican David Jolly, NBC officials recently got in touch with organizers of a Feb. 25 debate. They proposed that Todd, the network’s chief White House correspondent and a Florida native, lead the questioning of the two candidates.

Apparently Sink was afraid of the same unfair treatment that many Republicans receive from moderators. But in her case, the “unfair treatment” she was trying to avoid was having Todd ask her about Obamacare.

As she’s come under fierce assault from Republicans who’ve spent millions of dollars on TV ads casting her as a supporter of President Barack Obama and his unpopular health care law, Sink’s aggressively tried to turn attention to local issues such as the rising cost of flood insurance premiums. Todd, who caters to a national audience, could have thrown a wrench into her strategy by focusing his questions on issues such as Obamacare.

As the Politico article notes, it probably also didn’t help that Todd said she ran one of the worst campaigns of 2010 when she ran for Governor. In any event, it’s kind of refreshing to see the shoe be on the other foot for a change, and find a Democrat battling an MSM moderator. Of course, rather than running from an expectation of gossip and innuendo from the debate honcho, Sink is trying to avoid valid questions.

Sink’s ads(all paid for by the DNC as far as I can tell) are all going back to a favorite democrat tactic of accusing the opponent of trying to destroy Medicare and SS. It’s funny coming for a party that is actively actually destroying both. Well it’s always worked before so I guess they think there is no reason to believe it won’t work this year.

Sink hates senior citizens. Especially older women.

What are you going to do? Ignore Obamacare for the next two elections? Good luck with that.

Your opponents feel no such qualms. Owning it and convincing people to return the party that shoved this up their collective squeak-hole to power because only you and they can “fix it” is your only chance.

Enjoy your summer. I suspect “Lie of the Year” will be a hotly contested race, unlike last year.

She’s never been in Congress. She was the Chief Financial Officer for the state of Florida and treasurer on the board of trustees of the Florida State Board of Administration. In 2010 she lost to Rick Scott by 1% for the governorship.

She’s a true blue Dem. David Jolly, the Republican she’s running against to fill the vacancy left by the death of Congressman Bill Young, is being endorsed by Jeb Bush. You can draw your own conclusions as to which one would be the lesser of two evils. I’m just glad I’m not in that district.

It is so easy to emotionally invest in the outcome of Florida 13′s special election.

If the long grey winter of Statism arrived with Obama’s re-election, what does this one race matter? Either way, the point has tipped and winter is still coming.

I know that, but I still check on Florida 13 every day, and I still love the Wendy Davis stories. We find our joy where we can.

dmacleo on February 16, 2014 at 1:44 PM

Sink is a democrat, therefore she’s not used to being asked the tough questions, she’s more used to watching Republicans squirm. It does thrill me that MSNBC was turned down though. The pity is it wasn’t the Republican who did it. I really hope the Republicans do to NBC what the Democrats have done to Fox. It’s a shame it’s not as easy for Republicans to shutout perceived bias since they’d have to shut down NBC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, and NPR, but at least shutting out NBC is a start.

The coward shying away from a debate makes her unwillingness to debate a legitimate issue subject to heavy attack ads. Often very effective.

She got caught cheating in a debate in 2010. Guess she knows we will be watching her closer this time and doesn’t want to have any more debates.

KMav on February 16, 2014 at 5:17 PM

Todd loves Obama more than Costas loves Putin.

But Sink just doesn’t want to debate. She is counting on DWS supplying a GOTV effort to elect her, she knows if she exposes her stupidity to the public it will only hurt her chances.

Adjoran on February 16, 2014 at 5:45 PM

Alex Sink was a poor choice during her last election in 2010 and we defeated her then. The people of Florida need to send her away again. Her buddies Obama, Pelosi and DWS need to be defeated again.
