By the way, Obama almost certainly lied when he said no one told him about Healthcare.gov’s problems

posted at 6:01 pm on February 13, 2014 by Allahpundit

We all already assumed that, I know. No matter how desperately The One may want to save face by refusing to fire Sebelius, there’s no way he would have kept her on if she had ruthlessly hidden the site’s problems from him until it went live and embarrassed him in front of the world. Of course he knew. And really, what incentive did Sebelius have to hide the truth? Even if she thought very early on that HHS could pull it together at the last minute and get the site ready by October 1, it must have been apparent soon enough that that was impossible. At that point, she had nothing to lose by telling O and everything to gain — i.e. keeping her job — by being honest.

We knew all this, but not until now did we have something like hard proof.

While Sebelius has said the president was not aware of HealthCare.gov’s problems, more than 750 pages of documents obtained by The Hill through a Freedom of Information Act request show she made scores of visits to the White House.

The documents reveal that Sebelius met with or attended calls and events with Obama at least 18 times between Oct. 27, 2012, and Oct. 6, 2013, including at least seven instances in which the two were scheduled to discuss the new healthcare law, according to the secretary’s draft schedules.

She had breakfast or lunch with Pete Rouse, considered one of Obama’s closest advisers, at least three times. Moreover, Sebelius had scheduled calls or meetings with Valerie Jarrett, an Obama confidante, and White House chief of staff Denis McDonough…

The schedules suggest Sebelius was an active White House presence in the months leading up to the botched rollout, and raise new questions about why Obama wouldn’t have known about the problems that were exposed on Oct. 1.

If we’re ranking the biggest ObamaCare lies told by Obama, this probably doesn’t crack the top ten. Even so, I’m curious: Why weren’t these many meetings on the president’s official calendar? When Peter Schweizer pored over O’s public daily comings and goings from 2010 onward, he found dozens of meetings with other cabinet members but just a single solitary huddle with Sebelius. How come? When Schweizer first published that, it made Obama look like he was criminally disengaged from the ObamaCare rollout. According to what The Hill found, though, he wasn’t disengaged; he was, it seems, fully up to speed on the problems before launch day, then merrily lied about it once reporters started asking questions later.

Speaking of ObamaCare and lies, a friend sends along a good question in response to yesterday’s post about the somewhat dubious numbers for January. All along, the law’s defenders have insisted that HHS is missing its enrollment targets chiefly, or even exclusively, because of the botched website launch in October and November. (They hit their target in January — assuming you include people with unpaid premiums in the final numbers — but they’re still a million enrollees short of where they hoped to be right now overall.) I’m embarrassed to say I’ve accepted that logic myself before. Practically no one signed up in Healthcare.gov’s first two months so that must be why they’re still so far behind. But … does that make any sense? Even if you spent a week or two trying to sign up in October and then threw your computer out the window in frustration, you must have heard by now that the site’s working better and that the number of sign-ups have soared. This idea of a million people being “missing” from the enrollment ranks assumes that the people who were thwarted early on have all given up irretrievably. Why would they do that?

My friend’s theory is that this has little to do with computer glitches and a lot to do with rate shock. It doesn’t make sense that, having once failed to enroll, people would stop trying forever. It does make sense that, having finally seen what they’ll be paying in premiums, they’ve made a reasoned decision to pass. That seems plausible to me, especially since the risk pools right now are conspicuously short of younger adults. It’s the “young healthies” who are in the best position to pay the mandate penalty this year and risk going without coverage. Maybe that’s the missing million, not the victims of October’s 404pocalypse.

First of all, the numbers need to be broken down into those who were thrown into the exchange by losing their individual insurance, and those who previously had no insurance. Then they need to tell us the paid rate for each group. Then the age bracketing.

Without all of those figures -which the feds surely know; they’ve got the capability to track the metadata of every phone call originating in the United States, surely they can parse together these numbers- then the figures they’re disseminating are worthless.

Demoncrat candidates will demonize Obama. HE LIED TO US!!!!

The reality is this. Obamacare was a partisan political exercise from the beginning. It was passed in a way that gave Dems all the credit. The schedule for enactment was laid out to give some immedidate “results” during the 2012 elections. But 2014 was going to be a huge gain for the Dems because of Obamacare.

It didn’t work out that way. And what we see now is damage control.

Allah, I’d add another reason for the one million missing enrollees. Security, or lack of it, in the exchanges. We would probably qualify for a subsidy but made the choice to find the money to buy outside of the exchange rather than risk our personal information. Other people may have decided it wasn’t worth the risk either, regardless of whether or not they purchased insurance elsewhere.

It’s getting to the point where you have to ask, “When has Obama told the truth?” It’s past the time when you can say you trust that he’s telling the truth. It’s way past time when you can say you trust him to make the right decision. When you get to that point, and his party refuses to hold him accountable, you have to attack them on that basis to win the next election. If the Republicans do this, they’ll win, if they follow the Boehner lead, they’ll lose.

Obama almost certainly lied

After the abundance of evidence, proving abundantly, that Obama lies as some sort of Primary Characteristic, the actual surprise or issue is:

When does Obama almost certainly NOT lie?

He speaks, he lies. He relies on some sort of faith in his ‘ability’ to drone (pun intended) on and on and on and NOT on his ability to be truthful. What he does is lie by default, “reliably lie”.

He’s mastered the ability to “sound” or appear credible — moreso to appear “meaningful” — while not being either. His default character is THE ACT, not the content.

Lourdes on February 13, 2014 at 7:48 PM

So that Sebelius and Obama met 18 times during nearly a year that started 10 days before the election. Prior to that, Obama went campaigning merrily around the country telling everybody, “If you like your health care plan, you can keep it, period. If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor, period.” and never bothered to check with Sebelius whether that was true BEFORE the election?

Jaibones on February 13, 2014 at 8:22 PM

Sorry, but this is still is no smoking gun. The faithful will just say that you don’t know what they talked about in those meetings. They will say what they have to–like they did with the IRS–to keep Obama pristine.

I mean, you’re talking about an environment when the flat truth of the “keep your plan” pledge was presented, they apologized for the president with the best rationale that they could find, which nonetheless told us that when the country wanted to engage in a dialog about what we wanted out of a national plan, he short-circuited the dialog because he knew better what we should want, and told us what we wanted to hear, because he knew he was going to force us to upgrade to “better” plans.

Liberals take the stance of George Costanza, if you think that this is a lie, you haven’t seen nothing yet.

If everyone was to sign up , which is supposedly the goal, how do they get their 40%? In addition they say you can stay on your parents policy until age 26, which takes out almost half of the pool.

Felix the Cat on February 13, 2014 at 11:18 PM

Obama has consistently lied about anything when he thought he had something to gain by lying.

Which is also why my theory of why his college records are better kept secrets than our NSA’s. By his own admission, at Occidental he was a “lackluster student,” but then as now the standards for a 3rd year transfer to Columbia (or any major college) were even higher than for freshman applicants. And his record at Columbia wasn’t enough for Harvard Law, either (while the transcripts are sealed, we know he wasn’t an honors graduate of Columbia, and many of those were rejected by Harvard Law).

I suspect he passed himself off as either Kenyan or Indonesian to get into those schools, possibly at the suggestion of Frank Marshall Davis, who was well connected with Ivy League radicals. That would amount to criminal fraud.

Adjoran on February 13, 2014 at 11:44 PM

Makes perfect sense that the Chief Executive of the United States, having his signature piece of legislation passed and soon coming ‘on-line’, would not have queried at all his chief subordinate at any of the 18 meetings that they had together.

Either this is a complete lie that he did not know prior to October 1st how bad the implementation of healthcare.gov was going, or he is one of the worst, if not near the top of the list of, executives to ever lead.

First, you have the legislative branch pass a bill that effects all of us without fully reading it. Then you have the executive branch implementing it without being fully knowledgeable of their actions. (I won’t even bring up a judicial branch that pretty much changed the meaning of words to suit the opinion they wanted.) And what you have is, if these are the brightest and smartest we got, we got hosed – big time.

(According to the terms and conditions of posting, I could not use the word that truly, truly expresses the situation.)
