What if Hillary just walked away?

posted at 7:01 pm on February 8, 2014 by Jazz Shaw

Even nearly three years out, it’s become “common knowledge” which has been repeated by more folks than you can count. (Including yours truly) Hillary Clinton is going to run for President. How could she not? And assuming she does, she will most certainly win the Democrat nomination. On top of that, she will present a daunting challenge to the GOP candidate, no matter whether the nominee is “establishment” or “grassroots” or from the Planet Ork. But I’m seeing an increasing amount of speculation that perhaps the conventional wisdom is neither. Does she want to spend two more years on the campaign trail to win at least four – if not eight – years in the most stressful job in the world? She’d be around 80 years old when it was over. What if Hillary Clinton just chucks it all and walks away from the American Game of Thrones? And who would rise to fill the Democrats’ power vacuum?

Jim Geraghty shares some conversations he’s had on the subject at the Campaign Spot.

Frankly, I can’t see Beshear mounting any serious, national effort. (Though we did talk about his need to find a new job last week.) He doesn’t exactly have much in the way of the national name recognition beyond the borders of his state he’d need to raise that kind of money. I also don’t see any sort of outcry for him. Besides, he’s a center left Democrat – assuming such still exist – and yet another old white guy… precisely the opposite image the Democrats seem to be hankering for since the hard Left began feeling their oats.

Deval Patrick is an interesting option, though he has the same problem with national identity. Joe Biden would almost certainly be in the mix, but it just feels like he would almost as surely be blown off the stage during the debates (Again). Cory Booker’s name also bubbled up in Geraghty’s conversation, and he does get a lot of face time in the national media, but at this point that looks like a suicide move for the Democrats.

The only person mentioned who seems like a natural fit is Elizabeth Warren. She’s out of the mix by her own declaration, but it’s a fair bet that they only reason she said that was to not step on Clinton’s toes and toss herself into a buzzsaw by challenging the next inevitable candidate. If Hillary were to vanish from the picture, she might be right back in the headlines the next day. And as I mentioned before, that would be pretty good news for the GOP.

Hey… I can dream, can’t I?

Hillary Clinton is going to run for President. How could she not? And assuming she does, she will most certainly win the Democrat nomination.

I thought I heard the same thing in 2008?

Then came someone the leftists actually liked and that was the end of the Clinton campaign.

Julian Castro or some other relative unknown could easily play that role again.

Hillary Clinton is simply a bad politician and generally unlikable.

Image may not be everything, but it is a lot in modern presidential politics—particularly with low-information voters.

I think Brian Schweitzer is a better candidate for the Dems than Hillary, but luckily they’re too gung-ho on the Hillary ’16 bandwagon too realize it. If she decides not to run though, watch out for him. The only real question mark with Schweitzer is whether the liberal wing of the Dems would accept his heresies on environmental and cultural issues.

Notice the prominent mention of Booker and Patrick. Geraghty understands the Democrats will need a minority turnout comparable to ’08 & ’12 to win nationally, and it is doubtful blacks will come out in those numbers for a white candidate.

Young people are already losing their enthusiasm for Obama, given his results for them are as bad or worse than in general. They won’t switch to the GOP but will likely return to their traditionally apathy.

Like George Will said a few weeks ago on FOX News when asked if Hillary would run, he said “Fish gotta swim and birds gotta fly, it’s what the Clintons DO for a living, run for office!” He is absolutely right.

Trying to make Hillary NOT run would be like trying to make the sun NOT shine. It is going to happen no matter what anybody says or does. She feels that she got cheated in 2008 by Obama and now it’s her turn. Gird your loins, folks. The Republicans are going to have to nominate one of the toughest, meanest, fighters there is to defeat the Clintons. If they nominate another nice guy like McCain or Romney, they will lose AGAIN. They need a tough warrior to defeat the Clintons.

My vote would be for Allen West. He would destroy Hillary in a debate and if anybody says anything against him he could do what Obama always did, and that’s cry racism. West is the only one with the brains and the stones to defeat the rabid Clintons.

I think Rand Paul’s comments this week have put a real scare into the Killery campaign. In order to repeat Zero’s “historic” election narrative, she’s gotta do the woman thing and tar the GOP as being anti-woman. Paul has opened the door to pointing out that her husband is a sexual predator and she helped him destroy the victims of his sexual violence. Every time she says “Woman!” a thousands people will say “Rapist! Cover Up! Blame the victim!” That’s gonna be a problem for her — and it isn’t going to go away. And notice that there was almost no defense of Killery from Paul’s remarks except for a few weak “That was in the 1990s…” comments. She’s not going to get the level of protection Zero has.

Only two reasons she doesn’t run: Benghazi, and/or things are so toxic on the Democratic side by the middle of next she she decides it isn’t worth it.

No way the left rallies around old white guy Biden, but he could torpedo Hillary with information about Benghazi making overtures behind the scenes to persuade her to stay out.

Same for Kerry, who seems to be pushing really hard to strongarm Israel into a deal that’ll land Kerry the 3nd best notch for a progressive behind only single-payer. And any criticism against him will be immediate classified by the left/media as “swiftboating”. He’s got a shot at the nomination.

Warren would be fun. The attacks will be called misogynist, but her kooky ideas won’t make that line believable. She’ll be a disaster for the left.

In an exclusive interview with Breitbart News, presidential historian Craig Shirley said that Coca-Cola’s decision to revise their controversial “America the Beautiful” ad and specifically reference America’s unofficial motto, “E Pluribus Unum,” in the ad’s opening segment shows that the company quickly understood their original ad missed the mark with the majority of Americans.

“Coca-Cola has realized they made a mistake,” Shirley said, “but showed intelligence by quickly responding to valid conservative criticisms by adding the ‘E Pluribus Unum’ patriotic disclaimer at the front of the ad.”

“The storm of opposition to Coke’s infamously tasteless ad shows that a vast majority of Americans still see this country as a melting pot and not a gaggle of entitled special interest groups,” Shirley added.

Shirley is a well respected biographer of Ronald Reagan.

That’s interesting to ponder. She did, after all, get her signature legislation (Hillary Care) passed by proxy less than 20 years after it was laughed off the stage by responsible adults.

However, Hillary’s the ultimate do-gooder. And do-gooders have to control others – it’s in the marrow of their bones. And to control others, they need power. And she wants power. Plus, if she won, she’d be able to come out of the shadow of Billy Jeff and wipe some of his hideous stain off her own reputation.

It’s still interesting to think about though.

Another hurdle Killery faces: So, so many issues that would have derailed Zero — his racist church, his wife’s fake hospital job, his missing college/social security/birth records, etc. — were deemed “off-limits” by the Race Police, and the GOP went along with that. But a woman trying to run as a HISTORIC WOMAN candidate won’t be able to take her husband’s well-documented history as a sexual predator off the table — it’ll be tough to prove the GOP is anti-woman because it’s standing up for rape victims — and she won’t be able to stop the discussion of her evil efforts to cover that sexual abuse up and further violate the women her husband abused.

Her woman narrative is shot. What else has she got?

Some are working poor, widows, victims of domestic abuse. Not attributes, but struggles. Definitely not parasites.

You forgot orphans! How could you forget to include orphans?

Wait for the end …she quotes scripture. I guess mixing politics and the Bible is okay. …. for some.

I’m scared to click. Is that the “I’m no ways taaard” speech?

BoxHead1 on February 8, 2014 at 8:17 PM

Hillary has a lot of baggage that in a normal world would make sure she never got near the presidency. All the Republicans have to do is keep repeating all of it…

Well never mind. Maybe the media will report it honestly…

Yep she’s a shoe-in.

I’m continually amazed at people’s ability to underestimate Brian Schweitzer. I honestly think he’s the most dangerous non-Hillary candidate they have. The nutroots loves him but he can plausibly run as a moderate and even conservative on some issues while running to everyone’s left on others.

America does not vote for ugly, we are a shallow people.

Johnnyreb on February 8, 2014 at 8:19 PM

The DNC should just capture you, stick a GOP for president shirt on you and wind you up. You pop off like a parrot, Danceman.

Ah, you’re gonna be a lot of fun.

In regards to my statement yesterday of it being impossible to make a stupid person understand they’re stupid, has anybody ever told you that you have a child’s mentality? Just one real person that you’ve had contact with? Seriously, is there some spark of self-realization in you?

That’s the trouble with liberals. They see wverybody as victims. Conservatives have a more realistic view. They know there are good guys and bad guys and the bad guys don’t deserve to be taken care of by the good guys.

crankyoldlady on February 8, 2014 at 8:21 PM

Polling out of Colorado shows she is very vulnerable when up against Rand Paul or Paul Ryan. Unfortunately she’s the Dems only chance to win.

will77jeff on February 8, 2014 at 8:21 PM

Hillary will have to answer for Benghazi. There’s the Pakistan commercial and her speech as the four victims were brought home. Both times, she blamed the video.
I will admit that is a huge strike against her as a candidate and a human being.

Pickle on February 8, 2014 at 8:22 PM

Hillary Clinton is simply a bad politician and generally unlikable.

sharrukin on February 8, 2014 at 7:08 PM

This is true.

But what is also true is the Democratic party likes putting up young candidates. Kennedy, Clinton, Obama. All young, all winners.

Stevenson. McGovern. Humphrey. Mondale. All old guard. All losers…
