Video – Rendell on MSNBC: Hillary has already “earned the nomination”

posted at 8:31 am on February 1, 2014 by Jazz Shaw

In a way, you really have to hand it to Ed Rendell. The former District Attorney, Philly Mayor and two term governor has managed to keep his hand in the politics game consistently, even after leaving elected office. This includes his gigs at NBC News and MSNBC as a political analyst. I suppose they feel he’s a valuable property for such witty insights as this one, (via RCP) when a cable host asked him if Hillary being coronated as the Democrat party nominee in 2016 would be “a good thing.”

Well, it’s not necessarily a coronation; a coronation is when somebody hasn’t earned it. I think for all of the things that Hillary Clinton has done in her career, she has basically earned it. When George W. Bush ran, he had some competition, but he hadn’t done the things that Hillary Clinton had done.

I’m just saying whether it’s a good or bad thing, as a practical matter, the vice president who has done a great job as vice president, but his people are Hillary’s people. His fundraisers are Hillary’s fundraisers and when you look at the poll that was just released, with Hillary having a 61% point advantage, I’ve never seen anything like that in presidential politics.

It might be a tough sell to convince people of either the idea that this wouldn’t be a coronation or that she’s somehow “earned” the nomination already. We’re talking bout the same woman who has held exactly one elected office on the American stage in her life. And in that one the word coronation cropped up pretty frequently also. With nothing on her resume other than having been married to a successful politician, she carpetbagged her way into New York, had the DNC drive all of the native Dem talent off the stage and dumped enough money into the race to scare off most of the GOP competition. (All of this in a challenging environment where she still would have enjoyed a 12 point generic ballot advantage even if her name had been Hillary Smith.) And of course, in terms of qualifications as a successful politician / candidate, in 2008 when she made her only other, truly challenging run at an election – the Democrat primary – she lost.

During her one full and one abbreviated term in the upper chamber she was perhaps best known for her polite way of “keeping her head down” while she learned the ropes, didn’t create any waves and didn’t author any successful legislation of note. Granted, she had a fairly good attendance record until she decided to run for president, but just showing up isn’t exactly the type of resume on which one builds a legend.

She was handed her position of Secretary of State (as they all are, to be clear) essentially as a consolation prize and to keep the PUMA crowd from continuing an open revolt against the new president. While serving as the nation’s face of foreign affairs, her only significant achievement was to rack up more frequent flyer miles (at taxpayer expense) than any previous holder of the office. (Unless you want to count Benghazi as “an accomplishment” that is.)

So remind me again, Governor Rendell… how exactly has she already “earned” the nomination?

Yeh, really. What has she done other than stand by while her husband diddled an intern (s?) in the Oval Oriface?

Please— she got to where she is at ONLY because of her husband– Bill \not Huma :)\.

My guess: If she is already the winner it will work out as well as such picks did for the GOP.

So the Democrats are all fired up for an Obama third term? That’s exactly what a Hillary presidency would be. Just substitute the “gender” card for the “race” card. If you look back at 2008, the only difference in the two policy-wise was that Hillary supported an “individual mandate” in health care and Obama didn’t. Of course, Obama has since flip-flopped on that one.

She’s earned it like the illegals have earned citizenship just by being here. I’ll say one thing for the dems, they do stick together on the party line.

She claimed to have been shoot at by a sniper. Not just her, but her and her daughter when in reality a 12 year old girl gave her flowers. There is no way someone that would lie so blatantly about something so easily checked is mentally stable or fit for office. What kind of power hungry harlot would make such a claim?

I thought that’s what ALL Democrats did – never really left politics because they’re wh@43$.

but just showing up isn’t exactly the type of resume on which one builds a legend.

Riiiight, because Obama didn’t just show up as a senator to vote present.

Killary is on a perfect, and historic, trajectory toward the White House unless some other, more worthy (read: gay; Hispanic; gay Hispanic; fill in the blank) steps up to fill the position.

Obviously, the GOP has nothing to offer.

That said, of course she will be the nominee, and of course she will win.

There’s not any reason we can give for why she should not that will not be handily overcome by:

– the same press that has been wholly in the tank for Obama and every other piece of shit Democrat, regardless of their history/reality;
– gazillions of stupid f*cking liberal citizens who don’t know, don’t care, just vote Democrat for any piece of shit the Dems put on a stick and wave in front of the cameras;
– “FIRST BLACK FEMALE PRESIDENT!!1! REPUBLICANS ARE BIGOTS AND WAR ON WOMEN AND STUFF!11″

Come on, seriously – name a problem she has that will matter in the context of the reality of US politics today.

And we haven’t even added commentary about how crappy the GOP candidate is going to be yet, how much the GOP is going to destroy their own base before the election, etc.

Rendell thinks he’s an expert on Eagles football too. With absolutely no credentials that might qualify him to provide commentary, he sits on a panel after each game on Philly’s Comcast Sports Network. This has been going for years and I often find myself turning to a different channel every time Rendell opens his big fat mouth. It’s bad enough having to listen to a die hard liberal but posing as an expert pro-football analyst is just too much for one to bear.

Like his girlfriend Hillary, he brings nothing of value to the table.

fogw on February 1, 2014 at 9:39 AM

Yeah, she’s “earned” the nomination but that just illustrates just how corrupted our electoral processes have become. It’s a carry-over from our celebrity culture; all you have to do these days is be famous for being famous. You don’t have to actually ACCOMPLISH anything of substance and the masses will still throw laurels at your feet.

She certainly hasn’t earned the right to be the CEO of the United States of America. But then again, maybe she has.

YES. She earned it by putting together a team in ’07-’08 that lost to a part time Senator no one had ever heard of. Just keep pumping her up MSM. Looking forward to in depth reporting on Benghazi and the rest of her term as Sec of State. Oh, and I can’t wait for all the “Stand By Your Man” baggage with Bill. It might be a tough sell to convince people of either the idea that this wouldn’t be a coronation or that she’s somehow “earned” the nomination already. We’re talking bout the same woman who has held exactly one elected office on the American stage in her life.

That’s not even the biggest takeaway from all this.

Hillary had already been coronated in late 2006; she was just waiting for the go-ahead to assume the throne. Barack Obama waltzed up with a paper trail so thin he could be passed off as anything the DNC wanted, and so they snatched the crown from Hillary’s old fingers and anointed a new savior.

The same thing could happen again, for sure; it’s only the beginning of 2014. Nobody of importance knew who Barack Obama was until the very end of 2006.

mintycrys on February 1, 2014 at 9:52 AM

I’ll still give Rendell credit for being the first major Democrat to go on TV and tell Al Gore to give it up after the 2000 Supreme Court ruling.

That said, it wouldn’t be a shock if Ed is one of those Clinton supporters from the ’90s hoping to return from being more than just an MSNBC paid talking head if Hillary gets into the White House, with some cabinet post like AG or Department of Labor. He’ll never say a word about how Team Clinton’s going to square the circle of having to run basically as Obama’s third term while distancing themselves from the president and his increasingly unpopular policies.

jon1979 on February 1, 2014 at 9:55 AM

So Ed ….. riddle me this……..Can a government be called representative if it acts with deception towards its citizens? Can a democracy (or a republic) be considered acting based on the will of the people when such actions are taken via lies?……. nut’n but goons.

Hillary Clinton is NOT going to be elected president in 2016, nor will any other Democrat. History is a much better indicator than public opinion polls. History tells us that after eight years of control by one party, the political pendulum swings back to the other party.

There has been only one exception to this “rule” in the last half-century. Reagan was still popular at the end of his second term in 1988 that voters gave the reigns of control to his second-in-command. If the Democrats want the White House again, two things need to happen: (1) Obama’s numbers need to skyrocket and (2) they must nominate Obama’s second-in-command, which is Joe Biden. Otherwise, they don’t have a snowball’s chance in Hell.

Or Congress can just pass amnesty.

The problem with your position is that we’re not talking statistics or random events. There is something to the idea that independents or moderates, or whatever, swing back and forth. It’s like: Hey! that last guy didn’t work out, let’s try the other party!

But you can’t just extrapolate a curve based on the last several elections. FDR was elected, but the people who got annoyed at him overstaying his welcome, ushering in the modern 2-term limit, are dying off. Who are they being replaced by? Gimmecrats.

The Republicans are never going to win by annoying their base and increasing the base of the Democrats. But that’s what they’re doing. And if the Republicans do win under those conditions, it’ll only be because they have become as hard left as the Democrats are.

There is one thing that Hillary Clinton fears above anything else in the world. It is Public humiliations.
At all possible she will try to get the nomination hands down with out any primary venting. Venting will only open her up to public humiliation. She has no accomplishments to stand on, only a long list of failure.

The one and only time she came close to anything policy-wise was when she was pretending to be “co-President” early in Bubba’s first term (hint: she was not an elected official but tried to pass herself off as one) – and that policy item went down in flames so hard that it led to the Republican Revolution of ’94 (which then led to budget discipline that was maintained through ’96 and ’98).

Otherwise, name one single accomplishment this woman has to her resume, other than being female and showing up…?
