WaPo columnist: Hey, Monica Lewinsky wasn’t exactly an innocent victim, you know

posted at 8:01 pm on January 27, 2014 by Allahpundit

Via RCP, here’s one more in the long list of reasons to dread Hillary’s inevitable nomination. It also makes it inevitable that America’s going to refight this old battle, replete with enlightened progressives — many of them women — grasping for ways on television to dismiss presidential intern-shtupping with variations of “she was good to go.” In fairness, Marcus gets points for degree of difficulty here, framing this defense of the Clenis as a knock on the GOP for allegedly viewing women through some sort of virgin/whore lens. In other words, Rand Paul’s critique, which was designed to parry the left’s endless “war on women” nonsense, is itself proof of the Republican war on women. It’s not the guy who exploited a tremendous power disparity with his subordinate for some sexual fun who’s the main offender. It’s Paul, for noticing and thinking Lewinsky was something of a victim in a situation like that.

I know it’s early, but can we set a ground rule for this topic going forward? Ground rule: If you’re defending Bill Clinton on this, please at least dispense with the wholly perfunctory “President Clinton did a bad thing, but…” caveat. Just own it. It was a private matter, Monica was over 18, he needed to bust a nut and knew she had a crush, and that’s it. At the very, very least, let’s have no smirky references to “thong-flashing” that would have set off a media panic on the left if a Republican columnist had said the same thing in semi-defense of a GOP president who’d behaved as Clinton did.

As for Rand bringing this up in the first place, I go back and forth between thinking it’s foolish to give Hillary a chance to remind the public of her victimization (victimhood being a core component of her campaign to come) and clever in making Democrats generally and Bill in particular think twice before throwing around “war on women” charges. More than anything, though, I can’t believe Democrats are going to foist this baggage on us again. We’re going to spend another two years, and maybe four years after that, and then maybe four years after that — 10 years! — neck deep in Clinton drama. Again. I don’t have the energy. I need to blog something less exhausting, like the Middle East.

obama tweets his pen, and is “complex”.

More Ruth logic:

Weiner and Filner are D heroes.
Wendy Davis is a heroine…her gang having ridiculed a wheel-chaired man.
Billy Clinton is a god, the first black president, obama being the first half-black one.
Hillary is a heroine, innocent of Billy’s plays, on Easter Sunday, under her room, in the WH.
Congressman from FL has to resign because he’s treated of cocaine, while obama promotes chooming, equally to drinking.
Huckabee can’t use certain words (no, I don’t care for Shmuckabee)
Fluke is filthy rich and righteous, peddling the poor to pay for her load of contraceptives.
Schumer calls the Koch Brothers “plutocrats” but all the D-rich are heroes.

Meh, the books write themselves, chapter after chapter.

As for Rand bringing this up in the first place,

He didn’t Gregory did by quoting Paul’s wife from an interview in Vogue:

DAVID GREGORY:
Final political question for you. Whoever the Republican nominee is, there’s a good chance, as we look at it now, that one candidate on the Democratic side who’ll have a lot of momentum, whether she gets the nomination or not we don’t know, is Hillary Clinton. And an interesting profile in Vogue magazine, including this analysis.
“While her husband jokes,” meaning you, “that his gut feeling is that Hillary Clinton will not run for president is good a thing since all the polls show her trouncing any opponent, Kelley, the wife of Senator Rand Paul practically cuts him off to say that, ‘Bill Clinton’s relationship with Monica Lewinsky should complicate his return to the White House, even as first spouse. I would say his behavior was predatory, offensive to women,’ she tells me.”
Are these issues something that you really think will be fair game and an appropriate part of a campaign, should she be the nominee?

Who was worse:

Bill Clinton or Mark Sanford?
Mark Sanford or Larry Craig?
Larry Craig or David Vitter?
David Vitter or Eliot Spitzer?
Eliot Spitzer or John Ensign?
John Ensign or John Edwards?
John Edwards or Anthony Weiner?
Anthony Weiner or Bill Clinton?

That sort of thing.

Guessing the Republicans wouldn’t fare so well and I’m also guessing the media could justify it every time.

I really wish we could get over Monica Lewinsky. Yeah, Bill Clinton is a sleazy horndog to this day, and Monica was a spoiled and gullible upper-middle-class naif who thought she was so special she could entice a man like that away from his political marriage and his political trajectory. Was she a victim? No. She should have known better. Do we care anymore? Not remotely.

Of course Hillary Clinton is inevitably tied to her husband Bill because she never repudiated his transgressions, and that leaves her open to accusations of political expediency, given the effect his political power had over her career. But her real baggage should be her absolute lack of any real accomplishment, as First Lady, as New York senator, as Secretary of State, and her oh so very real failures (among other events, her shameful failure over Benghazi).

Hi, Hillary!

You’re so right. After all, victims always suborn others to commit Felony Perjury before a Federal Grand Jury, and then do the same themselves.

Victims also let their Department of Justice successfully prosecute a female Federal Employee (she was a Doctor with the Veteran’s Administration) for Lying Under Oath About Sex. And then claim they are Above the Law for doing the same thing.

And Victims also encourage the National Organization for Women to endorse their engaging in an adulterous relationship in the workplace with a workplace subordinate, and then committing a Felony to cover it up.

You’re Dismissed.

Under Betsey Wright’s supervision in the 1992 Clinton campaign, there was an entire operation funded with over $100,000 of campaign money, which included federal matching funds, to hire private detectives to go into the personal lives of women who were alleged to have had sex with Bill Clinton. To develop compromising material–blackmailing information, basically–to coerce them into signing affidavits saying that they did not have sex with Bill Clinton.

Valkyriepundit on January 27, 2014 at 9:18 PM

The Democrats always put Republicans in this position and get away with it. First of all, this isn’t about sex, cigars, knobbers, or thongs in the Clinton White House. This is everything about Clinton propositioning an employee, in Arkansas, and then lying about the encounter, under oath before a grand jury. This is all about a President of the United States, being called before the grand jury and asked about the sex, cigars, knobbers and thongs in the White House and lying about it, under oath. He could have pleaded the 5th, wouldn’t have looked good, but he still could have done it. That would have been presidential. No, Bill Clinton though he was such a good liar he would never be caught. It made no difference to him if he looked the American people in the eye and lied, he was good.

So, all the Democrats have to say is, “It was all about sex.” and the media lets them get away with it. For the Republicans to dispute that lie, they basically have to go through my first paragraph or just say, “Is not!”

Hell. He’s probably still cherry. (heterosexually speaking)

Why do you hate women, you racist misogynist?

Solaratov on January 27, 2014 at 9:39 PM

Sir, it’s because they won’t give him the time of day, let alone a little poon.

Meanwhile Willie Nelson was getting stoned on the roof.

Monica Lewinsky wasn’t a victim of any sort

in fact she was the predator…clinton was more the victim, if there were any victims (I don’t think there were)

lewinsky, like most women, knows very well the sexual power they wield over men who are helpless prisoners of their libido

LOLOLOL

Dude, does it *hurt* to be so mentally and comically deranged?

Midas on January 27, 2014 at 9:46 PM

It’s Paul, for noticing and thinking Lewinsky was something of a victim in a situation like that.

Not a victim, but a fairly young woman. I would like to think, at her age (22?) that I would have been smarter, but let’s face it – this was the POTUS and by all accounts a very charming man.

Young women can be very stupid. A predator like Clinton would know this and add in the fact that this is a workplace issue is just repulsive.

But that’s liberals for you. Now they’re going to F this chicken some more and play the “sluts and nuts” out of the Clinton handbook.

How exciting. /

By the way, that’s not to say Rand Paul isn’t right to bring up the fact that Democrats are pathetic hypocritical garbage. Some potential voters might be swayed to not vote for pathetic hypocritical garbage. It’s just that you won’t be able to paint Hillary with Bill’s specific garbage.

I think we can all agree that if an absolute degenerate lowlife like Hillary can get herself elected in 2016, then it’s past the age where conservatives, self-reliant types, are even in the political game thereafter. Especially on the heels of eight years of Marxist Obama failure.

There is hope after you acknowledge that the landscape is hopeless for 40% of the people. That’s still a lot of people. Millions and millions. It’s just not a majority in this so-called nation which is really a “democratic union of states”.

I do believe the libtards are lining up with a line of reasoning that would suggest that all sexual harassment suits against men are fundamentally impossible – helpless men are the victims; they simply can’t resist the wiley and treacherous predatory punani!

Dude. Really.

SIGH.

*shakes head, wanders off laughing*

Allah, relax, it’s 2006. The inevitable Hillary Clinton will be defeated by some upstart first term Senator with a catch phrase. Snap out of it. It’s 2014 and Hillary is inevitable.

Where is feminist social justice warrior Sandra Fluke to repudiate this war on womyn tactic?

Not all sex harassment suits, just those against prominent Democrats who are still useful to the regressive cause.

Fenris on January 27, 2014 at 9:56 PM

But libfree was just on here saying that conservatives are against women’s struggles. According to nonp, the only struggle women have is which guy to take to the sack. I am glad that I can never be charged with sexual harassment, since I am just a lowly, wandering dope, who is lead around by his d!ck all day and am in no way in control over myself when a sweet piece walks by. My wife will be overjoyed.
