Open thread: Sunday morning talking heads

posted at 8:01 am on January 26, 2014 by Allahpundit

Tea time for the Sunday shows this morning as Rand Paul gets the spotlight on “Meet the Press” and Ted Cruz headlines “Face the Nation.” Topic du jour: With the next debt-ceiling standoff just weeks away, what’ll be their ask this time for raising it? And does it even matter? Centrist Republicans in the House and Senate won’t be as willing to go to the mat on this as they were with the shutdown now that the midterms are in sight. Expect the requisite questions about the NSA too, especially with the RNC having gone full Paul on Friday in calling for reform. Cruz has been trying to build his reputation as an NSA critic lately with an eye to 2016. He might out-Rand Rand this morning on the subject.

Elsewhere, White House lackeys Jay Carney and Dan Pfeiffer will be on “This Week” and “Fox News Sunday,” respectively, to preview the State of the Union speech that America can’t wait for. The full line-up is at Politico.

Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO) delivers Weekly GOP Address on real job creation solutions

Published on Jan 25, 2014
*************************

In the Weekly Republican Address, Sen. Roy Blunt of Missouri says he’d like to see President Obama embrace real job creation solutions when he delivers his State of the Union address next week — things such as approving construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline that would generate tens of thousands of new jobs at no cost to taxpayers. Blunt says the President will have a “lot of explaining” to do in his State of the Union speech as to how more government, more spending, more taxes and more debt help out-of-work and poor Americans. “If all he has to offer is more of the same, or if he refuses to acknowledge that his own policies have failed to work — the President is simply doing what many failed leaders have done before him: trying to set one group of Americans against another group of Americans,” Blunt says. “We don’t need more class warfare, and we don’t need more interference from Washington. No government program can replace what a good job means for the future of a family.”

In his weekly address, President Obama said that the Administration has taken another important step to protect women at college by establishing the White House Task Force on Protecting Students from Sexual Assault. An estimated 1 in 5 women is sexually assaulted at college, and the President said that we will keep taking actions like strengthening the criminal justice system, reaching out to survivors, and changing social norms so that all Americans can feel safe and protected as they pursue their own piece of the American dream.

With the next debt-ceiling standoff just weeks away, what’ll be their ask this time for raising it? And does it even matter?

Dove Bars every breakfast?

Yes, the GOP is the equivalent of Deathtongue aka Bloom Boingers in Bloom County; they know three chords and can grimace musically, and that’s about it.

Blunt says the President will have a “lot of explaining” to do in his State of the Union speech as to how more government, more spending, more taxes and more debt help out-of-work and poor Americans.

Because the utter destruction of anything even vaguely resembling “evil capitalism[tm]” and its replacement with a top-down, planed political economy on Marxian/Keynesian lines is a bedrock dogma of the progressives, especially The One.

I thought everybody knew that by now? It’s not as if they’ve made a secret of it for the last century and a half. In fact, it’s on the op-ed pages of the major newspapers and in the Sunday supplements practically every week- notably in anything Paul Krugman writes.

Is anyone in DC actually paying attention?

No negotiations with Republicans on U.S. debt limit: senior Democrat

(Reuters) – Democrats in Congress will not negotiate with Republicans demanding concessions in exchange for raising the U.S. debt ceiling, the Democratic chairwoman of the Senate Budget Committee said on Friday.

“We will not negotiate over whether or not the United States of America should pay its bills,” Senator Patty Murray said in a letter to colleagues.

“And once again,

before they get any further down this damaging path,

we call on our Republican colleagues

to not play politics with our economic recovery.

I’m hoping for another Obamacare shamwow infomercial. Where Dems don’t clap so much as they look excitedly and knowingly at one another as their rat-eared king speaks of the wonders of Obamacare. Instead of Joe Wilson interrupting with “you lie” designated Dems will stand up and ask questions like “But will my contraception be covered with Obamacare?” and “That all sounds pretty expensive Mr. President- are there subsidies available for the poor?”

One down, one to go!

Rand Paul handled the lefty, David Gregory, very well. I love the
way his demeanor is calm and collected; he doesn’t get riled;
just states the facts; doesn’t let himself get drawn in to a trap. However, the expression on Rand Paul’s face when asked the usual lefty dumb questions, formulated to get a “gotcha response” they can turn in to the next story, is one of “Oh, boy, I am indeed dealing with an idiot.

I also loved Rand Paul’s response to the question about Christie
and Bridgegate.

Cruz is up next.

I love the way these two conservatives and a few others aren’t afraid to go on the lefty programs.

OT-

Speaking at the United States Conference of Mayors on Friday, Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson said the approximately 11 million people who are in the country illegally have “earned the right to be citizens.”

“An earned path to citizenship for those currently present in this country is a matter of, in my view, homeland security to encourage people to come out from the shadows,” said Johnson, in what he remarked was one of his first public speeches since being confirmed as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) chief in December.

“It is also, frankly, in my judgment, a matter of who we are as Americans,” he said, “to offer the opportunity to those who want to be citizens, who’ve earned the right to be citizens, who are present in this country–many of whom came here as children–to have the opportunity that we all have to try to become American citizens.”

This is who we have in charge.

A very special Better-Late-Than-Never Edition of the Sunday Morning Propaganda Review!

Let’s have a gander:

“Meet the Press” on NBC
• Libertarian Hero
• Kook-Left Fringe Hero
• Race-Victim Lefty
• D.C. Apparatus Jerk
• Moderator: Immoderate Lefty

“Face the Nation” on CBS
• Conservative Hero
• Kook-Left Fringe Hero
• GOPer back-bencher
• Dem back-bencher
• Moderator: Immoderate Lefty

“This Week” on ABC
• Kook-left fringe Propagandist (Professional)
• RINO jerk
• Social Con, Economic Lib
• Unknown media suspect
• Kook-left fringe Propagandist (Professional)
• Moderator: Immoderate Lefty

“Fox News Sunday” on Fox
• Kook-left fringe Propagandist (Professional)
• RINO Hero
• Generic Liberal
• Moderator: Moderate

“State of the Union” on CNN
• Kook-left fringe Propagandist (Professional)
• Libertarian Hero
• Liberal
• Conservative, I think
• Russian – indistinguishable from U.S. Democrat
• Moderator: Immoderate Lefty

“Political Capital” on Bloomberg TV
• Liberal Hero
• GOPer
• Moderator: Immoderate Lefty

“Newsmakers” on C-SPAN
• Social Con

“Al Punto” on Univision
• Kook-left fringe Propagandist (Professional)
• Liberal Hero
• Moderator: Immoderate Lefty

Final Score:

A couple of conservatives,
A couple of RINOs and generic Republicans who hate conservatives,
A couple of Big Government Apparatus cheerleaders,
and yet another blizzard of Liberal dopes, covering the gamut from supposedly moderate Dem to Kook-Left Fringe, all “moderated” by media propagandist for the left.

To understand Sunday morning political talk shows, you need to believe that the dominant view of most Americans is Liberal to Kook-Left, and that conservatism as a philosophy is a tiny minority viewpoint. Can anyone find me the polling data which shows this to be the case?
