Palin: Christie’s scandal is nothing compared to Obama’s scandals

posted at 6:28 pm on January 10, 2014 by Allahpundit

She doesn’t give him a pass on it — as you’ll see, the word “atrocious” is mentioned — but contextualizing Bridgegate vis-a-vis the NSA and Benghazi (and the IRS, and Bob Gates’s accusations, etc) does Christie a big favor. Given the bad blood between them, she could have been much harsher.

Has any all-star tea partier really unloaded on Christie yet, by the way? It’s strange that after three days of punishing media coverage, the Republican who’s taken the biggest swing at him is … this guy.

Update: Per a Twitter pal, Glenn Beck has indeed unloaded on Christie.

The media’s coverage of this “scandal” is atrocious.
After giving Obama a pass on much more serious scandals, their outrage over a traffic jam should leave no one in doubt that today’s “mainstream media” is nothing but a house organ for the Democrat Party.

Dead American soldiers, law enforcement officers, and diplomats, the IRS used as a tool to punish Obama’s political enemies, concerted efforts to make the shutdown “painful” to ordinary Americans (and WWII heroes) for political advantage, Obama’s outright refusal to enforce laws he doesn’t like, and the list goes on.

The idea that Christie shutting down a bridge is a *serious* matter that deserves outrage and investigation is laugh inducing.

Christie is a POS, and his staff closed that bridge because they thought he would want them to…even if he didn’t explicitly tell them to do it. But Obama deserves impeachment several times over. In fact, he should be in prison.

N.J. Lawmakers Release New Bridge Lane Closure Records
Documents Submitted by Christie Associate David Wildstein Include Email and Other Communications

The New Jersey state Assembly Friday released more than 1,000 pages of documents obtained under subpoena concerning the George Washington Bridge lane closures, an unfolding scandal that has engulfed the administration of Republican Gov. Chris Christie.

Some of the records were submitted by Christie associate and former Port Authority of New York and New Jersey official David Wildstein, who enacted the September 2013 bridge lane closures after Mr. Christie’s former deputy chief of staff, Bridget Anne Kelly, emailed him saying, “Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee,” records show. The closures were apparently meant as political retribution against the administration’s perceived adversaries, including the local mayor, who declined to endorse Mr. Christie in his successful 2013 reelection bid.

U.S. Justice Department officials said Thursday they would scrutinize whether the lane closures violated federal law.

I would say, “Duh!!” But apparently it really is necessary to make this obvious point.

There Goes the Neighborhood on January 10, 2014 at 7:00 PM

Saying “Christie’s scandal is nothing compared to Obama’s scandals” is a total waste of time. It does compare to Obama scandals, it’s worst than Obama’s scandals if the MSM want to make it out that way.

Christie should be coming out of the chute like a bull and telling the MSM that they have crossed the boundaries of fair journalism.

She would spend the first four years using the bully pulpit to broom out the disease,

And use the next four to restore the Constitution to its rightful place at the center of our governance.

She could ask for the return of the Churchill statue, and then ask the National Archives to move their copy of the Constitution to the Oval Office for the duration of her term – just so she knows its there as she steers the ship of state.

I wouldn’t say that Palin is definitely a moron because she drew a blank at perky Katie’s question about what periodicals she read. I’d like to see more well-documented, recorded blunders before dismissing her as a mindless talking head.

Did she call Europe a “country?” Did she say Austrians speak “Austrian?” Did she say Hawaii is in Asia? Did she say that there are 57 states? Does she think we need more “Arabic translators” in Afghanistan so we can understand the natives? Does she believe we have an “intercontinental” railroad?

Does she think the Constitution was written “20 centuries ago?” Did she claim that Emma Lazarus raised funds to build the Statue of Liberty? Does she think Mexico was a nation before the US was even an idea? Did the American army liberate Auschwitz?

Does she celebrate “Cinco de Cuatro”, admire the Penn State “Nitally” Lions, and root for the White Sox (not a one of whom she can identify by name) while reminiscing about the good ol’ days at “Cominskey Field?” Does she commend navy “corpse-men” and give a shout-out to the many fallen heroes who are in her audience? Does she lament the 10,000 dead in a Kansas storm when the death toll is actually 12? Does she really think a payment can decrease by 3000%? If she has asthma, does she grab for her “breathalyzer?”

Those are just a handful of idiocies I can pull off the top of my head.

But, of course, Sarah Palin did not utter them.

Yeah, but the person who did went to Harvard, so there’s that.

(Actually, “alledgedly” went to Harvard since we there are no publicly-available transcripts to prove this.)

Palin is far from being hard core right. She is always trying to get along with the GOPe politicians.

She endorsed McCain for reelection in 2010, and she endorsed Ayotte over LaMontagne, the Tea Party candidate. Both bad choices in my opinion, but it shows she’s really a Tea Party/moderate hybrid.

So this doesn’t surprise me at all. Palin is all about trying to be reasonable while staying principled.

To be the same thing, it would have to be proven that Valarie Jarrett was the one orchestrating the IRS attacks on conservative groups. Presidents have much more ability to invoke plausible deniability. It is all corruption but you can’t compare the Obama administration to that of the fat man.

Happy Nomad on January 10, 2014 at 6:55 PM

First of all, is it proven that Christie’s staffers “orchestrated” the lane closings?

Second of all, we and the press don’t know who orchestrated the IRS attacks because they have no interest in finding out who did so. There is at least a double standard in caring about responsibility.

Also, on defining the legal immigrants, on amnesty, bluegill is superb. Plus, bluegill can write real coherently, even if we disagree.

Documents reveal anger, chaos in Christie bridge scandal

By Dave Warner
TRENTON, New Jersey Fri Jan 10,

****************

(Reuters)
Documents related to the bridge closure scandal engulfing New Jersey Governor Chris Christie revealed on Friday that authorities were deeply divided about the shutdown, with one warning it was illegal and risking people’s lives.

More than 1,000 pages of anxiously awaited documents subpoenaed by New Jersey lawmakers investigating the massive, four-day traffic jam on the George Washington bridge were made public after revelations that Christie’s staff appeared to have orchestrated the closure as political payback.

Christie, seen as a likely contender for the White House in 2016, has said he knew nothing about the plan until damaging emails from his staff were revealed on Wednesday. He fired a close aide and publicly apologized for the fiasco.
