Hillary Clinton’s “shadow campaign” looks pretty much like … everyone else’s

posted at 10:01 am on January 6, 2014 by Ed Morrissey

Politico got a pretty big scoop last night. A nearly certain 2016 presidential candidate is preparing for a 2016 campaign, just in case the potential candidate decides to enter the race, mostly by proxies rather than directly. At this point, you could fill in any name you want, but in this case it’s Hillary Clinton:

Early last summer in her Georgian-style home near Washington’s Embassy Row, Hillary Clinton met with a handful of aides for a detailed presentation on preparing for a 2016 presidential campaign.

Three officials from the Democratic consulting firm Dewey Square Group — veteran field organizer Michael Whouley, firm founder Charlie Baker and strategist Jill Alper, whose expertise includes voter attitudes toward women candidates — delivered a dispassionate, numbers-driven assessment. They broke down filing deadlines in certain states, projected how much money Clinton would need to raise and described how field operations have become more sophisticated in the era of Barack Obama.

The meeting was organized by Minyon Moore, a longtime Clinton intimate also at Dewey Square who has informally become the potential candidate’s political eyes and ears of late. Clinton listened closely but said little and made no commitments, according to people familiar with the nearly hourlong gathering. It appears to have been the only formal 2016-related presentation Clinton has been given from anyone outside her immediate circle.

You know, it’s 2014, not 2013 or 2012. The first signs of primary campaigns will begin to pop up in about 12 months, if the pattern from the last two cycles holds. People who want to run for the presidency are expected to start doing some preliminary due diligence at this stage in the cycle, regardless. The best that Politico has on Hillary Clinton is that she took one consultant meeting a few months ago?

Pretty much, yeah:

Publicly, Clinton insists she’s many months away from a decision about her political future. But a shadow campaign on her behalf has nevertheless been steadily building for the better part of a year — a quiet, intensifying, improvisational effort to lay the groundwork for another White House bid.

Some of the activity has the former first lady’s tacit approval. Some involves outside groups that are operating independently, and at times in competition with one another, to prepare a final career act for the former senator and secretary of state, whose legacy as the most powerful woman in the history of American politics is already secure.

This, according to Politico’s e-mail digest, is their second-ranking top story today. Only Liz Cheney’s exit from the Senate race in Wyoming tops it, mainly for its breaking-news value, one presumes. Yet there isn’t anything at all revelatory in this piece. This is the kind of background filler that could easily be written for any of the potential high-recognition candidates for 2016, and which has been written about Hillary repeatedly already, right down to the “do it vs don’t do it” camps.

Maggie Haberman does a good job of running down some of the insiders and outsiders that would form the campaign, if it launches, but there’s nothing in the piece that suggests that anything has changed at all since that one outside consultation last summer. It will make a useful touchstone for later when Hillary finally decides to enter the race or retire for good, but it gives no insight into where that decision is, nor any surprises on preparation for the campaign as a contingency.

Hilary Clinton is a powerful member of the Democrat party, who has averted her eyes on Benghazi, Al Quada and the Obama Economy. She should come out and tell the truth and blame Obama now on Benghazi, not in October 2016. She is going to run against Obama, and yet she is doing nothing to “save” the country now. They will say she can’t be blamed for things that went wrong under Obama. Meanwhile the democrats are destroying the country, but they will say Hilary will “save” us.

I dunno. She has to get into the race at the last possible moment, and run the shortest campaign possible. She can’t run in the primaries because there might be negative campaigning against her.

I think she is too old, in about fifteen minutes after the first crisis she will look as bedraggled and worn out as she did during the Benghazi episode. But then, I am just a girl, meow.

DanMan on January 6, 2014 at 10:19 AM

I predict she won’t get the nomination. Lieawatha or a Hispanic will get the nod, IMHO.

Well, in keeping with Democratic voting principles, she certainly has Ambassador Stevens vote.

You can’t take any of these “potential” candidates seriously until they start sniffing around Des Moines like a dog saying “hello” to another dog.

I still maintain that Christie is going to be the Dems VP pick with Killary or some other rabid unattractive female at the top of the ticket. Joe Biden, do you suppose he is even going to try?

Honestly, in my heart of hearts, (and I know this go against what alot of people have been saying), I don’t think Hillary runs, and if she does, Benghazi is going to dog her from the start of the campaign to the end.

It seems to me that Hillary is just going through the motions, without any real enthusiasm. The only “excitement” about her candidacy is coming from HILLARY supporters, not from the candidate herself.

Do you remember when – during the Benghazi hearings – when she supposedly had an intercrainial hemorrhage from a fall? The story of “got a tummy bug, got dehydrated, had a fall, and got a subdural hemorrhage from the fall” is the story that you would expect to hear about a frail little old lady – not the history that you would expect to hear involving a vibrant woman who would be able to handle the mental and physical rigors of a presidential campaign.

(Of course, this assumes that the incident happened at all, which is anybody’s guess. We are talking about the Clintons here.)

My take on this: Hillary has underlying health issues that she is not making public. If she runs at all, it will be an unenergetic campaign, by an exhausted candidate who is only doing it to please her fans.

Let’s phrase that a bit differently. Killary will be 70-years-old in January 2017. The only thing I want her sworn into is the Congressional hearing where she finally has to answer about Benghazi under oath.

If Benghazi and her contribution to the health care disaster are indicative of Hillary’s leadership experience, it would be best for America if she sits this one out.

We’ve had enough of campaigns solely based on their purported “historic” aspect.

Perhaps someone qualified and experienced at successfully running a government might be better this time.

Americans died
Hillary cried…
“What does it matter?”

easyt65 on January 6, 2014 at 12:50 PM

The Duties of the Secretary of State:

1. Serves as the President’s principal adviser on U.S. foreign policy.

On the anniversary of 9/11, while over a dozen U.S. Embassies were being attacked – 4 destroyed…while 4 Americans – to include a U.S. Ambassador – were attacked and fought for their lives for 12
hours during which time all were killed, Hillary Clinton, the Secretary of State, was MIA and refuses to tell the American people where she was. “What does it matter?”

2. Conducts negotiations relating to U.S. foreign affairs; Negotiates, interprets, and terminates treaties and agreements

Her State Department hired an Al Qaeda-associated militia to protect Ambassador Stevens and Americans in Benghazi …from Al Qaeda…and refused multiple requests for additional security after several terrorist attacks prior to the final one on 9/11.

3. Ensures the protection of the U.S. Government to American citizens, property, and interests in foreign countries; Supervises the Foreign Service of the United States

The #2 U.S. Ambassador in Libya testified that he called Hillary Clinton, herself, and informed her the Benghazi compound was under ATTACK. The CIA testified that they sent a cable within the 1st hour of the attack identifying the attack as a TERRORIST ATTACK, that the cable was sent directly to the State Department and to the White House WAR Room, the same War Room where Obama watched the take-down of OBL. They testified that the White House and the State Department modified this cable 12 times, stripping every reference to a terrorist attack from the cable, before releasing it much later. It was during this time Obama and Hillary were concocting the ‘video’ LIE. During the 12-hour long siege on the Benghazi Compound, Gen Carter Ham, AFRICOM Commander, who was ordering his special ops team to prepare to respond to the attack, received a call to ‘Stand Down’. Gen Ham voiced his intent to disobey this order, arguing that Americans were fighting for their lives and his team was specifically trained for this very type of situation. At this point Gen Ham is relieved of duty. During the fight in Benghazi one of the ex-SEALS fighting for his life was LASING targets so that responding aircraft could strike them…those aircraft never came. The truth finally came out also how the Benghazi compound had been attacked twice before, how Stevens warned if a 3rd attack occurred he would die, and how the State Department / Hillary did nothing….except deny Stevens of additional security.

Secretary Hillary Clinton FAILED in her duty to protect the Benghazi U.S. Compound, failed to protect / save Ambassador Stevens and 3 other Americans, doctored documents in an attempt to hide this failure, lied to the American people, and offered insult before Congress on top of her betrayal by feigning anger and shouting, “What does it matter” regarding how Stevens and the other 3 Americans died.

And now she wants us to forget all of that and entrust our lives and this nation to her as President???

TO H#LL WITH YOU!
