Video: “Special Interest Kay” Hagan now owns Obamacare

posted at 4:01 pm on January 4, 2014 by Jazz Shaw

If Senator Kay Hagan (D-NC) has been hoping for a change in the narrative for her 2014 reelection bid, she may have gotten her wish. Unfortunately, the change seems to be in the form of the story getting even worse. Thom Tillis, the state House Speaker, has wasted no time in going on the air and pointing out Hagan’s role as a lead engineer on the Obamacare train wreck.

North Carolina House Speaker Thom Tillis (R) is attacking Sen. Kay Hagan (D-N.C.) as an Obama lackey in his first television ad — while playing up his own business credentials instead of his legislative experience.

“Kay Hagan enabled President Obama’s worst ideas. She refuses to clean up his mess, so you and I have to clean up hers,” Tillis says in the spot.

Polling shows Obama’s weakened position could hurt Hagan in the state. An early December automated poll by the North Carolina-based Democratic firm Public Policy Polling found his approval rating had dropped to 44 percent, with 55 percent disapproving. In that poll, Hagan had a narrow 2-point lead on Tillis, who was unknown by most voters.

Hagan’s support of ObamaCare has been a focus of the attacks against her. Tillis joins in, ripping the law as a “disaster,” and knocks politicians of both parties for failing to rein in the national debt.

Even better, Hagan tries to hit Tillis for supporting special interests. It’s fairly shocking that Kay Hagan would attack anyone on special interests. Her list of special interests and lobbyist backers — including her buddy Tony Podesta – is as long as your arm. (See here, here and here for starters.) This isn’t even counting the $1million+ that political action committees have poured into her campaign or her financial reports from her time in state legislature. This has led some to begin calling her “Special Interest Kay.”

There’s one seriously hilarious sub-plot to this story as it unfolds in the Tar Heel state. One of the bigger Democrat super pacs, the Senate Majority PAC, is out there doing their best to defend all of Hagan’s good work in implementing Obamacare. Of course, they had to find a way to do it without actually mentioning the Affordable Care Act by name.

The Senate Majority PAC is up with another big ad buy on behalf of Sen. Kay Hagan (D-N.C.), a top GOP target in 2014.

The ad focuses on stressing Hagan’s support of aspects of ObamaCare — without once mentioning the law by name — and criticizing her most likely opponent, North Carolina House Speaker Thom Tillis (R), on healthcare issues.

At this point, these efforts to “help” Hagan are really doing little more than teeing up the ball for Tillis. And the state party supporting him wasn’t about to let this slow, fat pitch sail over the plate.

“It’s evident that Kay Hagan and her liberal allies have seen her campaign completely implode because of her unwavering support for Obamacare, and now they are desperately trying to do damage control to save her Senate seat,” says North Carolina Republican Party spokesman Daniel Keylin. “No amount of political spin and sugar-coating over the airwaves will change the fact that Kay Hagan repeatedly misled the public to justify casting the deciding vote for this train wreck. North Carolinians know that Kay Hagan owns Obamacare.”

If you’d like to help out Tillis as he pushes to flip this Senate seat from blue to red, you can check him out here. And here’s the video referenced above.

I’ll be sticking by Brannon for this go around.

Hagan needs to be removed and replaced by Constitutional-minded candidate, and that means Dr. Greg Brannon, who stands for TEA Party values, and is medical doctor who deals in healthcare daily.

Tillis is backed by Karl Rove, which spells RINO, and we’ve had enough of Democrat Lite to last a lifetime.

shades_of_gasden on January 4, 2014 at 4:25 PM

Er, Tillis is *NOT* the GOP candidate yet. There’s still a primary to go. However, any bruising of Kay Hagan is always good.

A variation on “If you like your Senator you can keep your Senator.” I suspect not the last variation.

I’m voting for Brannon. Tillis is the weakest candidate; he has tons of baggage and no one likes him. In the PPP poll, Brannon was the only candidate who was actually beating Hagan.

besides Brannon seems to get it ala smaller gov’t …

conservative tarheel on January 4, 2014 at 5:12 PM

I’m not going to get into the Tillis v. Brannon spat but I’ll make two comments.

Tillis’s ad is off even though his message is not. He delivers it in a non-descript “businessy” setting where everybody is middle-aged white folk just milling around not doing much of anything. Diversity would not be your enemy in future ads.

Brannon’s website has an unfortunate picture of him in front of the Gadsden flag. You can barely see anything but the yellow and it is taken with a parking lot behind him- it reads used car salesman.

Come’on Tar Heels. This is war! Stop making stupid political campaign mistakes.

Happy Nomad on January 4, 2014 at 5:22 PM

Republicans need to be smart about it. We have a primary to determine our nominee. Whoever wins, we all need to fall in behind them to defeat Hagan.

Statistically, the best chance to defeat an incumbent Senator is at their first reelection. After that it gets very difficult to do. Look at people like Bill Nelson, Tom Daschle, Max Baucus, all Democrats elected in red (Florida was definitely Republican-leaning when Nelson first won his seat) states who served many terms voting against their constituents’ interests and philosophies.

Fight hard for your candidate in the primary, but if you lose, don’t be a jerk.

Especially that dim wit(we have to pass the bill to find out what is in the bill) Nancy Piglosi.

That insurance policy that you had but was canceled, the doctor you had but is not in your network, that tripled deductible, DEMOCRATS did that. Not a single republican voted for this. In fact, they did everything they could to stop this train wreck. Remember that when you vote.

Democrats did it, but Olympia Snow helped by voting it out of committee. It’s like RINOs who vote for cloture, knowing the bill will pass on the Senate floor, vote against the bill and brag to voters that they voted against it. This is a favorite trick of McCain, Miss Lucy Graham, McConnell, Johnson and other RINOs.

DANGER!!! DANGER!!!

Given sufficient money that we do not have, Sufficient lies and misdirections and add enough time. This ACA will work.

If this comes together prior to the Mid terms in 2014 or the National Elections in 2016. Then the Democrats can accuse all others as being reactionaries with out a purpose.

Then the Demarcates can declare that they are the only true visionaries in Government. It is this end that they seek. At all cost they will keep the true and total expense of the ACA from the public. That cost today by some estimates is as high as $6 Trillion of borrowed money.

Just in case, they have started to pander to the voters with taxes payers money.

Raise the minimum wage.
Generally meaningless and inflationary, effecting a very small portions of the working population but a tried and true election years battle cry. You will not hear them talk about increasing the standard of living by controlling taxation, government waste and abuse and passing the savings on to the people. No thats an anti government believe.

Extend Unemployment benefits. Why? Every study every where in every country shows the same thing. The longer the benefits, the longer before they get a job. Im self employed. When things hit hard there was no government hand out for me. My wife with her Masters Degree took a job in a sewing factory. We gutted it out to get back on our feet. Now I have been trying for nearly a year to higher someone to do a “Police Call” on my property. That means go out and pick up the wind blown trash for 5 hrs once a week and $10.00/hr. No chance of getting any one. So at $120,000/year I have to do it.

So the Democrats want me to pay higher taxes so some one else can stay at home and NOT work. Fat chance.

Brannon, Brannon, Brannon.

RINOs should be extinct. Let Dr Brannon be yet another weapon of that mass extinction.

Here is something that really pisses me off! During the 2012, the American people voted for gridlock to continue. Not raise taxes! Not amnesty! Not gun control! You get the picture! To bad McConnell and Boner did not get the memo.

Continue gridlock, not capitulation!

I’ve a feeling she’ll be beat. But it won’t be without a fight. In my neck of the woods, still living back and forth between Hoke and Harnett Counties, you still see a gigantic outpouring of support for obama. New bumper stickers, old yard signs still near Spring Lake and even a fleece winter jacket with this God-like rendition of their Messiah emblazoned across the back. I have heard a Raleigh radio station my subcontractors were listening to with the DJ begging young people to to get covered through ACA and then make sure once they had it, remember to thank “Barrack and Senator Kay”. The banter on the show was all about the Republicans trolling the website and sabotaging the startup.

Unreal.

It’s like the scum of the earth lowlife Obama said during the shut down: Elections have their consequences. Oh, how I long for these scum of the earth lowlife LIBERALS to be voted out of office.

tmgrant on January 5, 2014 at 8:13 AM

RINO Burr owns the train wreck too. He did nothing to try to stop it and ridiculed Cruz and Lee in the bargain.

Brannon for me, and probably whoever is running against Burr in 2 years.

Hoping McConnell and little Miss Lindsey Grahamnesty are sent home to stay as well.
