MSNBC panel: Hey, get a load of Mitt Romney’s black grandson

posted at 2:59 pm on December 30, 2013 by Allahpundit

Via Caleb Howe, New Year’s cheer from American cable news’s beacon of progress. Here’s why even a terrific year-end MSNBC lowlight reel shouldn’t be attempted until after December 31st: There’s bound to be clipworthy stuff right up to the minute the ball drops. In fact, as bad as this is, arguably it isn’t even the most offensive Melissa Harris-Perry clip having to do with kids this year.

In a nutshell:

Yeah, the interesting thing about this is that they put the photo on the air even though they obviously didn’t have anything to say about it. Ostensibly it’s comic fodder for Harris-Perry’s panel of comedians to riff, but all they can muster is (1) hey, one of them looks different, (2) a Kardashian joke from MHP herself, and (3) a predictable dig at the GOP — which would have worked just as well as a dig at Obama’s 2012 campaign team, actually. It’s not that the photo’s inherently funny or that a white family adopting a black child is wrong — imagine them reacting to a photo of Tom Cruise with his adopted son — it’s that, I think, they felt they couldn’t let it go unremarked upon that the GOP’s last nominee seems happy to have a black child in his family. On MSNBC, racism is the only reason to become a Republican. They’ve got to mock, even if they’re not exactly sure what they’re mocking, to delegitimize the inconvenient possibility that Romney isn’t prejudiced. Or maybe I’m giving them too much credit; maybe they do have a problem with interracial adoptions, a controversial subject in family law for ages. A lot of people who’d normally insist that race is nothing more than a social construct tend to get fidgety when a black child goes to live with a white family because it risks depriving him of his “authenticity.” Maybe that’s happening here, although I lean towards the “look at this Republican with a black kid!” gawk theory.

In other “all conservative thoughts spring from prejudice” news, apparently making fun of a grown man for wearing pajamas that a three-year-old would wear is proof of anti-semitism.

it’s one thing to say “republicans are racist,” it’s another thing to make fun of a child. that’s inexcusable. talk about “racist republicans” all you want, and that IS stupid, but laughing at an innocent child? that’s way over the line. i can roll my eyes about the false accusations of racism but the fact that they are making fun of a grandparent who loves his adopted grandchild truly pisses me off. but sadly, i’m not surprised. this is not the first time i’ve seen lefties get upset over a white family adopting a black child.

Or, maybe I’m giving them too much credit; maybe they do have a problem with interracial adoptions, a controversial subject in family law for ages.

the hardcore lefties do have a problem with it. i’ve seen it before. they think white people adopting a black child are trying to make the child white and erase his or her “blackness.” (whatever that means)

but actually the fact that these people love the child no matter what the child’s race is means they are means they are NOT racist.

Schadenfreude on December 30, 2013 at 3:58 PM

Completely unacceptable. If white conservatives are permitted to adopt children of color, then it will become increasingly difficult to dismiss everything they say as racist (and what would become of MSNBC?). Naturally, non-white conservatives will be permitted or even encouraged to adopt white children, because it will serve as further proof that they are really trying to be white, and that their conservative views are just more evidence of racist oppression.

Please don’t insult our (superior) intelligence.

MLK would consider his dream a failure in 2013. Black unemployment rate, black single parenthood rate, black crime rate, black high school dropout rate, etc. all testify to the total failure of your “progressive engine”, which is designed to do nothing more than keep voters addicted to your Party and the free stuff it offers to those too lazy to work for themselves.

Remember, Lyndon Johnson (a Democrat the last time I checked, and he also was in bed with Halliburton before Dick Cheney was even born!) bragged that by passing his Great Society, he had ensured that the Democrats would have those votes for years to come.

I just saw some 26 year old OFA dude wearing pajamas. He looked totally cool! I want to be like him if I ever grow up.

They should take a look at Governor Paul LePage’s family.

The continued progress of MLK’s ‘dream’ remains. And it’s engine is still the left/progressives.

verbaloon on December 30, 2013 at 4:53 PM

Here are the results of 50 +/- years of your left MLK “engine”:

1. 2013 Black unemployment rate: 2X that of Whites (12.6%). Essentially unchanged since 1963.

2. 2013 Black single parenthood rate: 72%.

3. 2013 Black crime rate: 8X higher than the White crime rate.

4. 2013 Black high school dropout rate: 9.6%, or double that of Whites.

lepage drives the lefties nuts up here. seems like his existence is the only reason bangor daily news writers do anything.
and since he could not fix 40+ years of stupidity in 2 years hes somehow wrong.
meh this state deserves to bleed and bleed it will.

I am furious. I’m an adoptive mother. Tell the kid on national tv that he doesn’t belong. I am beside myself with fury.

Alana on December 30, 2013 at 5:14 PM

Well brace yourself, because it is only get worse. Mitt wasn’t the last Romney to run for public office. At some point in time when this kid is more aware of his surroundings he will be labeled the “black Romney” by the left-wing media.

I would like to point out that you missed a big one. 50% of black children are killed by abortion even before they have a chance to go to school. One of the biggest racial atrocities is this genocide.

Happy Nomad on December 30, 2013 at 6:00 PM

This is all they have… Mitt and his black grandchild, Sarah and her Christmas tree.
