Dem rep: Maybe people aren’t signing up for ObamaCare because they think it’s already been repealed

posted at 4:01 pm on December 30, 2013 by Allahpundit

Via NRO, I’m torn. I want to mock her, but if there’s one thing I’ve learned from blogging polls over the years, it’s that you should never underestimate the stupidity of the low-information voter. She’s exaggerating the extent of this problem, no doubt, but there are people out there so ignorant of current events that they wouldn’t be able to tell you even now whether O-Care is good law or not.

And by “people,” I don’t mean one or two people. I mean … percentages. Here’s what Kaiser found when they polled this subject back in April:

k

Twenty-three percent had no idea and 19 percent were aggressively wrong. But surely those numbers changed over the summer, as we got closer to launch on October 1st and media coverage of the law’s rollout ramped up, right?

Sort of:

pe

The good news? The number who were aggressively wrong went down! The bad news? The number who have no idea went up, resulting in a slight increase overall in those who don’t realize that it’s still good law. Let that thought comfort you when you ponder the U.S.’s inevitable transition to a Chinese protectorate circa 2100. When future Americans are ignorant about the law, it won’t be due to their own lazy ignorance, it’ll be because their government’s, er … . actively concealing it from them.

There’s an obvious caveat here, of course. Both of those polls were taken before the exchanges launched and O-Care became a justifiable media obsession. Since October 1st, there’s been no escaping the fact that the law’s in effect simply because there’s also been no escaping the fact that the first two months were a historic clusterfark of implementation, replete with mopey Obama news conferences about how he and his team screwed up. For Holmes Norton’s theory to hold now would require a mind-boggling degree of almost willful idiocy among the population to keep themselves cocooned from what’s been going on in the news in their country every hour for the past three months. Which means at this point the “don’t know” contingent probably can’t reach much beyond — what? 20, 25 percent?

Exit question: Speaking of voter ignorance, how many people wrongly believe that their new insurance under ObamaCare will be totally free? Click the image to watch.

Her entire political career is based on leveraging and taking advantage of the stupidity of the low-information voter.

For that reason along, she deserves to be mocked.

How many video’s did we see around the 2008 Presidential election of people lining up for ‘free stuff’ from the government, or expecting that the Obama Administration would be paying for their rent, cars, and gasoline? Holmes Norton is one of those self-appointed elitists who perpetrate this fraud on people simply to buy their votes – enriching herself in the process.

We complain about the LIV, but the real parasites are the one’s like Holmes Norton who created and perpetuate the LIV class.

I don’t blame anybody thinking that Obamacare has been repealed. Every week the rat-eared coward is out there shucking and jiving about Obamacare with new exemptions, delays, and rules. Hard to imagine there is a going program when it keeps getting changed by the guy its named after.

And BTW, Eleanor Holmes Norton is a shadow Congresscritter not a real one.

It is the LIVs that will ultimately vote us into full blown socialism because they have no friggin’ clue who it us they are voting for and what those people stand for. All they hear is “fair”, “social justice”, “equality”, blah, blah, blah.

The economic ignorance of the average American voter is stunning and dangerous to our continued liberty.

There have to be some basic requirements to vote; property ownership, a job, not being on any form of welfare,…something to protect our liberty from the ignorant.

Liesman reported Thursday for CNBC.

“In CNBC’s third-quarter All-America Economic Survey, we asked half of the 812 poll respondents if they support Obamacare and the other half if they support the Affordable Care Act.

“First thing: 30 percent of the public don’t know what ACA is, vs. only 12 percent when we asked about Obamacare. More on that later.

“Now for the difference: 29 percent of the public supports Obamacare compared with 22 percent who support ACA. Forty-six percent oppose Obamacare and 37 percent oppose ACA. So putting Obama in the name raises the positives and the negatives. Gender and partisanship are responsible for the differences. Men, independents and Republicans are more negative on Obamacare than ACA. Young people, Democrats, nonwhites and women are more positive on Obamacare. . . .”

Short version- Mission accomplished for public education.

Teaching in a public school is about as evil a profession as there is in America. Not that all teachers are willfully evil. But, here in VA for example, the new year brings but one thing to the public schools. Time to coach the kids for the well-named SOL testing. Time to put all pretense of education aside if it doesn’t directly relate to passing a test of “minimum standards” that shouldn’t require months of prep work if teachers had done their damned job in the first place.

You know…..sitting here and thinking about all this, the thought arrived in my head that in the slavery days, there were black overseers whose job was to keep the slaves in line, telling them what/how to do things and enforcing what the plantation owners (black and white) said. http://slaverebellion.org/index.php?page=the-black-slave-owners

The people in that poll have traded their plantation owners and their black overseers for this 1/2 black president.

From your lips to g-d’s ear and quickly!

CiLH1 on December 30, 2013 at 4:49 PM

Damn. Odd man out again.

There was one group that the law reached out and grabbed: people who had insurance to begin with. There was one other group of people who were actively following any of this and actually cared: poor people who mistakenly believed Obama was going to give them insurance, i.e., new Medicaid participants (surprise!).

Other people are out hunting Sas.quatch, and I can’t make myself indignant at them for refusing to participate in these new, great works. It would be like insisting they come to a party I don’t want to attend either. The whole “we’re partners in running your life, so be sure to check with us” thing is new.

My primary, political goal is giving people the ability to walk through life and rarely if ever come into contact with the federal government, and some of these people are apparently living my dream already. (Heh.) So — As much as possible, I’m going to look at this as civil disobedience via middle finger and try not to wonder how many of this vast Army of Resistance would respond “Obama” if you asked them who they are going to vote for next time.

I know the ACA law hasn’t been repealed or overturned, but I also know that politically favored groups get waivers, and that the president and HHS secretary have the power to arbitrarily enforce (or ignore, delay, etc.) the 1000′s of pages of provisions in whatever way they can imagine based on what they find politically convenient… so I am not actually sure it is a ‘law’ in the traditional American understanding of the word.

A good point. It’s been said that we are all guilty, everyone of us, of breaking some local, state or Federal law at some time or another. That’s because there are so many of them that nobody could be aware of all of them.

In an important sense, it gives that authorities a reason to prosecute any of us at any time they care to enforce a law that we never even knew we broke (ignorance of the law being no excuse and all that).

Norton as an elected official is proof of the ignorance of a large portion of our electorate.

Gotta say that this Representative knows her constituents…

Ignorant and Stupid.

If there is a more deadly combination, I shudder to think of it.

I’m not reading a word of this post as there can be nowhere to go but down after that quote.

I’ll just read the comments.

“Let that thought comfort you when you ponder the U.S.’s inevitable transition to a Chinese protectorate circa 2100.”

No. Not even close.

China is in big trouble by 2060. The Hegemon has already defanged itself, though it will take a while for this to become evident.

You are more wrong than the other guy.

Meremortal on December 31, 2013 at 12:02 AM

She would make a good representative in the Zimbabwe government, which by the way is the direction this administration is taking this country.

wepeople on December 31, 2013 at 12:23 AM

Good idea. I’ll make the test.

DarkCurrent on December 30, 2013 at 6:53 PM

That wouldn’t help. Most of us don’t speak Chinese or have much understanding of the communist doctrine. But go ahead and write it for China. Oh wait …

Just when you think you have seen the dumbest Democrat, they trot out an even lower IQ member. It will be interesting(/s) to see how low they can go.

PJ Emeritus on December 31, 2013 at 10:45 AM

Wonder who was stupid enough to vote for this total idiot, liberal, democrat.

ultracon on December 31, 2013 at 11:33 AM

Eleanor Holmes Norton.
There are many cures for ignorance, stupid has far fewer remedies.
The combined IQ of the entire Congressonal Black Caucus is arguably below tripple digits.
Perhaps it is a requirement for admittance?

Missilengr on December 31, 2013 at 1:18 PM

People? Debatable.

StevC on December 31, 2013 at 3:34 PM

Another lefty, Dem feminist who knows very little about this topic. Then again, was SHE ever held accountable?

MN J on December 31, 2013 at 4:11 PM

Clearly she thinks most people are as stupid as she is.

olesparkie on December 31, 2013 at 4:12 PM

She’d make a great representative in Liberia. Make that Liberian dream real madam.

Murphy9 on December 31, 2013 at 6:08 PM

I have never met or even heard about anyone who believes ObamaCare has been repealed.

Dollayo on December 31, 2013 at 10:28 PM

Nice try. People aren’t signing up because they are just not that interested in Democrat ObamaCare ™. Pundits are interested, but young people figured out that it is a bust and that there will be no consequence to them if they choose to ignore it.

Someone else, probably not Democrats this time, will have to sweep up the socialist mess that Obama created.
