George Will on latest ObamaCare “fixes”: This is like watching government by teenagers

posted at 9:31 am on December 14, 2013 by Erika Johnsen

What a week. It’s almost like the Obama administration doesn’t even care anymore about keeping up the slightest appearance of abiding by the rule of law, let alone having any semblance of an idea about what the heck it is they’re doing. Their endless parade of fixes is really putting insurance companies to work, practically begging them to cover the marks of their own egregious ineptitude by providing their new insurees more time to pay for coverage (and putting the onus on the insurance companies, of course, conveniently makes it all the easier to shift the blame their way when people do find themselves without insurance — or their doctors, or their drugs — come January 1st). It certainly didn’t take long for the whole program to deteriorate into a touch-and-go scenario of downright petulant proportions, as George Will noted on Friday evening, via RCP:

We have a great sense this week again of the making it up as they go along, as kind of government by teenagers. And we’ve instituted a new phrase this week, which is “retroactive coverage,” and it goes like this, I gather. You lose your coverage under Obamacare because you had a substandard plan from a lemon, whatever they call them — insurance company. And you may have enrolled but you may not have sent your premium in. So, on January 1st, hungover from a night of celebrating the end of 2013, you’ve come down the stairs and you break your leg. Now what do you do? Are you covered or are you not? There is a great fear that there’s going to be a wave all across the country of people who have fallen into this hole where they’ve either not paid or not paid all and the companies are asked to pretend that they’ve been paid the premiums. This is retroactive coverage.

I’d like to have retroactive lottery numbers. And a retroactive prom date from junior year in high school. Maybe the President could order those things for me while he’s at it.

AND I’m now convinced that “Secretary” Sebelius is drugged. She’s on some sort of medication routine.

Not insulting her by saying that but saying that because it’s so clearly obvious that Sebelius is out of her mind. And being “maintained” on something because of that.

Speaking of Sebelius, whytheheck is she STILL a federal employee? In ANY other circumstance than a Democrat-in-Obama’s-Hire she would be fired, relieved of duty, sent home to be with her family, otherwise put out to pasture.

WHY hasn’t Congress forcibly packed her up yet?

I ask because I don’t know: is there some legal restriction that prevents Congress from canning a Cabinet member? Is Sebelius hanging on only because of Obama’s ugly hand? Or otherwise, there’s no explanation I perceive that explains why Congress hasn’t removed Sebelius from the job. From all jobs in public employ.

Lourdes on December 14, 2013 at 9:40 AM

She’s being paid to lie. And they’re probably paying her a lot. All of these guys are going to be very rich when they retire and rewarded for their loyalty.

I’m not agreeing or disagreeing with that, since I don’t know the “feelings” of “most of Congress” as to Sebelius, but there is no basis for any member of Congress NOT to can Sebelius based upon her outrageously horrible job performance, or lack of one.

Obviously, she’s being held accountable BY LYING. It’s so obvious Obama/Pelosi/DNC/the lot of them need someone to take the fall and be their pinata before Congress and it’s Sebelius so far in that regard. But Congress has a responsibility to remove such nincompoopery from federal jobs.

Nationwide, healthy citizens should just cancel their insurance. And when something bad goes wrong, pick an insurance company and remind it that the insurer is required to cover them and that the insurer should complain to the feds if it doesn’t like the situation.

This drags on because there are just enough human beings in the USA today who think ANY “criticism” of Obama is race-based. They’re stuck on that 60-IQ idea, that’s as far as their perception goes.

Unless Congress steps up and impeaches Obama for criminal behaviors — these do exist at this point — there’s little the rest of us can do except ensure we vote for someone new and, hopefully, more reliable next election.

Obama merits a federal pen. He’ll never see one because of those people who are convinced that, “because he’s Black,” so they say, that that means he’s never wrong in deed or idea and everyone else is “racist”.

From the NYTimes… http://www.nytimes.com/2013/12/14/nyregion/with-affordable-care-act-canceled-policies-for-new-york-professionals.html?_r=0

It is not lost on many of the professionals that they are exactly the sort of people — liberal, concerned with social justice — who supported the Obama health plan in the first place. Ms. Meinwald, the lawyer, said she was a lifelong Democrat who still supported better health care for all, but had she known what was in store for her, she would have voted for Mitt Romney.

It is an uncomfortable position for many members of the creative classes to be in.

“We are the Obama people,” said Camille Sweeney, a New York writer and member of the Authors Guild. Her insurance is being canceled, and she is dismayed that neither her pediatrician nor her general practitioner appears to be on the exchange plans. What to do has become a hot topic on Facebook and at dinner parties frequented by her fellow writers and artists.

I swear, doesn’t anyone know the Constitution any more. Sebelius can only be removed by impeachment and conviction if Obama won’t fire her because she is a civil officer in the government. Congressional elected officials are only removed by their own House based on a decision in 1797 during the impeachment of Senator William Blount of Tennessee which failed on the constitutional grounds that he was not a civil officer.

Listen to her speak, watch her when she does: drugged.

Lourdes on December 14, 2013 at 10:33 AM

While she may very well be on drugs, she’d be just as incoherent without them because she’s so detached from reality. She can’t remember what lies were said, so she doesn’t know if her next sentence is going to be the one that blows up in her face. All she knows is she’s in the middle of a mine field and has no idea which way to go.

Flange on December 14, 2013 at 10:45 AM

Like I wrote earlier here in comments, Congress is never going to get a lucid response from Sebelius.

She’s drugged BECAUSE she’s not lucid. Not like that’s helping her be lucid, it’s just maintaining her. Thus, “maintenance medications” is what I guessed she’s on, some sort of chemical therapy to keep her from screaming or hitting herself or others or otherwise tossing a microphone and yelling out that she’s the Queen. Like that.

On them, not on them, Congress will never get a lucid response from her. Her “testimony” is rubbish, it’s the US equivalent of that monkey in space that Iran keeps sending.

Lourdes on December 14, 2013 at 12:29 PM

what are you doing other than blowing out hot gas from your behind?

nonpartisan?…..really?
Your about as partisan as they get!

SHARPTOOTH on December 14, 2013 at 12:30 PM

That’s an insult to teenagers. ……………
scalleywag on December 14, 2013 at 11:50 AM

Both of mine would make Obama and his team look like 3 year olds. Conservative/Libertarian all the way.

Is George Will in effect, calling our first Black President, a boy?

nonintelligent on December 14, 2013 at 9:48 AM

Translated: “O’bama’s White Mother never existed.”

Del Dolemonte on December 14, 2013 at 12:42 PM

I take issue with George Will’s characterization of Obama for a couple of reasons.

First, it is demeaning to teen-agers.

Second, the more appropriate analog is the guy doing the faux sign language routine at Mandela’s memorial service. Think about it,

- his signing role was a result of a “compassionate” government that was clueless about the substance of what he was supposed to do,
- he was clueless given that he had no experience at all in the field of signing, but went ahead anyway
- he made sh*t up as he went
- it appeared to those wanting to believe in him that he was doing the right thing for the poor deaf people (while those with experience knew he wasn’t)
- he was hallucinating while doing it, and finally
- he was reassured by his illusory angels and wishful supporters that it was the right thing to do and anyone saying otherwise was out to destroy him and his good name.

Kinda sad when the profile of our Dear Leader matches that of a schizophrenic lunatic.

There is a great fear that there’s going to be a wave all across the country of people who have fallen into this hole where they’ve either not paid or not paid all and the companies are asked to pretend that they’ve been paid the premiums. This is retroactive coverage.

Welcome to the kleptocracy.

Aitch748 on December 14, 2013 at 1:04 PM

Hmmmm, that sounds like something ohhh say a teenager might do.

MontanaMmmm on December 14, 2013 at 10:42 AM

You’re not by any chance suggesting that nonpuberty is a…boy, are you?

Don’t pick on partisan too much. I sense a touch of brain damage with that one.

CWchangedhisNicagain on December 14, 2013 at 1:18 PM

I expect to see a wave of enthusiasm for reform of the power of the Executive branch once we have our next Republican President.

Teenagers? No, more like kids in middle school who are known for their self-control and wisdom. Riiight.

I live in a town where a rich man bought his 18 year old daughter a KFC/Taco Bell because she didn’t want to go the college and was kind of wild. He thought this would make her grow up and also make her a good living. He spent almost 2 million in franchise fees and another $360 grand for the building. The 18 year old girl hired her friends and for about 3 months she and her friends had a great time. After the third time the local Health dept. shut down the KFC/Taco Bell, YUM Brands stepped in an yanked the franchise. The building still sits vacant after 6 years. The daughter remains a good customer to various expensive rehab centers.

Some people can break a ball bearing with a rubber mallet. That’s what the idiots in Washington are doing to this country.

‘George will make a retroactive change to his quote.’

OT Check out the Denver Post for retroactive changes to quotes. They quoted the Arapahoe shooter as self-identifying as a socialist, but poof! That part has disappeared! This retroactive thing must be contagious.

When I first saw this comment, I honestly thought it was a sarcastic comment exaggerating the stupidity of what we could expect from the more feeble-minded side of the left (e.g. Maureen Dowd). To see that it was a serious comment is… disappointing, to put it in an understated way.

Remember, the Democrats abandoned people who actually have brains in 2012. They lost the college graduate vote, while wildly increasing their already-record share of the high school dropout vote to 80% (even higher in some Blue states).
